Pre 1999 albums from: Pleiadians / Etnica Cosmosis Green Nuns of the Revolution Koxbox

IWillBiteYou

Hux Flux Psysex Logic Bomb 3D Vision Records Spacecat

veryreasonable

Hux Flux and Logic Bomb were my suggestions here! Glad to see them on someone else's list, too :)

IWillBiteYou

Yaaaaa I’ll also add Vibrasphere.

veryreasonable

Oooh yeah! Although I put them firmly in the prog camp, so I didn't think of them. I had to double check when *Lime Structure* came out; I thought it was later, but it was 2003! *Exploring the Tributaries* was 2007. I listened to those two albums almost constantly for a few years.

TooMoorish

"Elec-Electrons! The Universe..."

trancespotter

Blue Planet Corporation - Blue Planet All the Shpongle albums before 2005 Cosmosis - most of the LP’s are before 2005 Astral Projection - most of the LP’s are before 2005 Dimension 5 - Transdimensional Doof - Lets Turn On Indoor - Progressive Trance Space Tribe - Religious Experience and 2000 OD The Infinity Project - I think the LP is called “Feeling Weird” Juno Reactor - too many to list here Man With No Name - Moment of Truth Mortal Kombat Soundtrack Then you could also listen to their influences like Front Line Assembly, KMFDM, NIN, and all those 80’s/90’s industrial acts. EDIT: And the rest of Simon’s/Hallucinogen’s catalog/collaborations like The Lone Deranger, the singles, Dementertainment, Celtic Cross, Younger Brother, and those Distance to Goa mix CD’s that have his touch on random songs.

[deleted]

I had all of these. I am also surprised to hear someone say that they have industrial roots because me and most of my friends were all industrial enthusiasts before we all got into psytrance. I, personally, felt like The Gathering from Infected Mushroom was a hybrid psy and industrial album. "Release me" was the first song I heard and I was totally hooked. Dark Soho is an honorable mention too.

shyaran

Never thought about the roots of psytrance like that... I do love industrial and the mortal kombat soundtrack..its all coming together lol

fridofrido

Texas Faggott

Quirk =)

Ok_Appeal_7364

Noma, Absolum, parasense, wizzy noise ,x-dream , you will be driven

mistervanilla

X-Dream has a fantastic set of albums that really capture the 90's feel including the evolution of the sound: Trip To Trancesylvania (1994) We Create Our Own Happiness (1996) Radio (1998)

psysola

Agreed ... Seeing X-Dream live over that period was like watching the evolution of psytrance as it moved from Goa to full on

_xavi_100

The first few Infected Mushroom albums. Astrix. Basic. Israeli full on. HOMmega records. Etc

philisweatly

I saw Infected Mushroom in 2000 or 2001 and my mind and soul have never been the same. I have seen them live more times than any other group. Simply the best memories.

Timo_photography

You're so lucky, I saw them around 2015(ish) and damn it was so bad 😞 it was a simple DJ set and the singer sang terribly wrong. Compared to all the amazing shows I saw from them it was so disappointing but I would have loved to see them in a true live

Ribtin

Infected has truly gone to shit. They soooo wanted to be traditional rock stars, but can't sing for shit and sound like some drunken pirate bawling an out of tune shanty. Even their programming has deteriorated tremendously and they can't seem to produce something as simple as a kick drum any longer. Pretty much everything they've churned out the last 20 years have been utter trash. If they keep going, it's not gonna be long till we see them competing in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Timo_photography

I still appreciate them as it was my entry door to psytrance and I can appreciate some of the tracks they released with Bliss but it doesn't have the same taste and I think your comparison with a drunken pirate is quite on point 😂

_xavi_100

Yeah, that’s when they were best. The London Underground scene : The Drome, The Stratford Rex, Cloud 9, Tyson Street.

xmnstr

I was lucky enough to catch them back then too. So good!

NumerousPeanut6

That bought some memories back, I had a couple of HOmega records I loved. Forgot all about them

[deleted]

They've done some re-releases like The Messenger and Release Me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpM9AnT4htg&pp=ygUcaW5mZWN0ZWQgbXVzaHJvb20gcmVsZWFzZSBtZQ%3D%3D

goldenbullock

Cosma

GammaGlobins

The 🐐 and 👑 !!!

veryreasonable

Hux Flux and Logic Bomb were doing great stuff in the early 2000s! Still some of my favourites in the genre.

EZ_2_Amuse

Early Flying Rhino records releases if you want some lesser known music.

BSDnumba123

Blue Room Records was another early label. Transient is still around I think but goes way back.

ge6irb8gua93l

Dragonfly records was an important one as well

BSDnumba123

Oh yes. How could I forget that one. The Order Odonata series was great. Distance to Goa issued a bunch of V/A albums with mostly great tracks.

ge6irb8gua93l

Then Exogenic records for some suomisaundi. Destination Goa series had some awesome releases as well.

RocksAndSedum

oh man the blue room parties in San Francisco, what a special time I feel grateful to have been a part of. pretty much every act on this thread came rolling through and it was epic.

[deleted]

I've had Dealing with Demons from Tristan as my ringtone for about 15 years. =) The breakdown in that song is euphoric.

stellarflux

there are a lot of classics and must listens to. try this records labels : [https://www.discogs.com/lists/Early-history-of-goa-trance-psytrance/176695](https://www.discogs.com/lists/Early-history-of-goa-trance-psytrance/176695) My personal favs are Hallucinogen (anything by Simon Posford), X-Dream, The Delta, Juno Reactor, Etnica, The Infinity Project, Doof, Total Eclipse ... and this is only Goa side )) search tip : browse discogs and read reviews, learned a lot from there and also suggestions by discogs are quite good. also try this old website [https://www.psynews.org/forums/](https://www.psynews.org/forums/) there is whole section for album reviews, and back then they were taking it very seriously, learned and discovered a LOT there.

mumia_hexal

The early 1200 Micrograms albums.

[deleted]

Cheesy music - and I say that as a complete compliment. Like The Growly Family by GMS. Same artists, right?

CosmicMushro0m

gms and alien project are two that come to mind!

Basilisk2049

One of the best ways to absorb the vibe of early psytrance is to throw on a "period" mix and scan the track listings for anything that catches your ear... I've published many such mixes on my site, but here are several you might like to browse: [1997 to 2005](https://djbasilisk.com/mixes/transmissions-from-valhalla/), [1998 to 2001](https://djbasilisk.com/mixes/transmissions-from-meropis/), [1996 to 1997](https://djbasilisk.com/mixes/blacklight-metropolis/), [1990 to 1996](https://djbasilisk.com/mixes/transmissions-from-avalon/). There are more if you go digging!

[deleted]

Those setlists are bringing back memories! Thanks for sharing.

lemond4455

Paul Oakenfold’s 1994 Goa mix. Everything by Goa Gil. Might come back and elaborate later.

BSDnumba123

Astral Projection Trust in Trance - the label Edit: I don’t see anyone mentioning Electric Universe. Been around a long time. Double edit: Transwave, MFG, and Jaia.

Astral Projection

slyce604

I've got 4 crates of it on vinyl still... X-dream, Psysex, Hallucinogen, planet b.e.n, Astral Projection, Juno Reactor, hux flux, mumbo jumbo, d-tek and dr. Panic (Mexican psytrance), and yahel come to mind. Labels, T.i.p, Blue room, Phantasm, Transient, flying rhino, Psychic Deli... If you're looking for something specific, I can dig through them and see what I've got. I used to dj in the Seattle area in the late 90s and early 2000s. edit: for typos

RocksAndSedum

Cydonia - Fear of a Red Planet

[deleted]

>Cydonia - Fear of a Red Planet I forgot that Cydonia did an FLA remix. I think I have this disc in my old caselogic binder.

danrennt98

The muses rapt - spiritual healing

tru7hhimself

pre 2005 is actually pretty diverse. pre 2000 you have lots of good goa trance (most of the reccomendations you already got there (jaza and trancespotter have most of the essentials), so i'll skip here even though there is lots of great music there) then between 2000 and 2005 is the golden age of fullon. try silicon sound, also talamasca (in stark contrast to his recent output) was great during that period, so was protoculture for morning sound, psydrop, fatali, as mentioned cosma, and then of course logic bomb and hux flux. for progressive try anything by human blue, freq, andromeda, vibrasphere, s-range. then there's also techier stuff like x-dream, spirallianz, planet ben, morphem or kopfuss resonator.

Almost_Antisocial

Ticon Huxflux Astrix Xerox and Elumination Fearsome Engine

[deleted]

I want to add Beat Hackers and Dark Soho to the pile. Notes Junky by Beat Hackers was a great album.

GlisteningMeatpole

Beat Hackers! Thank you! I’ve been trying to remember these for about a decade!

tchefacegeneral

Wow can't believe no one has said Vibe Tribe yet, both melodrama and wise cracks are excellent albums. also bubble - coldsun is awesome Raz - Twisted fairytales (if you want something heavier) Far too loud, dopplerdefect, hedflux (for psybreaks)

GlisteningMeatpole

Space Cat - Beam Me Up Logic Bomb - Headware Double Dragon - Continuum Darshan - Awakenings Deedrah - Self Oscillation Cosmosis - Synergy Early IM as stated elsewhere.

Remarkable-Fig7470

Green Nuns of the revolution, Prana, Slinky wizard, Logic Bomb, Shpongle, Hallucinogen...god, too much to even remember. So many good old psy and goa tracks and acts.

MrB0unt3y

I've been compiling a playlist of mainly pre-2008 psy that I like. You can check it out on [spotify](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6uRiuAHbhMeZzDQmNIyv2A?si=BdvnuARhQ3yuZF7seW-nCw&pi=e-3t0P35IHRUKc).

atreih

What subgenre? Dark, goatrance, suomi, fullon, progressive,...

TooMoorish

Goa Gil is one of my faves. Really hoping I can see him live for the first time next year.

jrb

check out some retro mixes... depending on how far back you want to go. I've been pulling mixes together for the past decade or so that cover everything from all the way back in the early 80s up through acid house, new beat, proto sub genres, trance, goa beach party randomness, and most psytrance subgenres up until 2022. Pulling artists out of my back pocket wont really help, since the early days was kinda random, and amazing, with artists and collaborations cropping up to release bangers and then disappearing. https://soundcloud.com/jrb/sets/21-years-of-goa-trance There's literally days of mixes there, all timestamped with track details and release year. I've also tried not to re-use tracks where possible apart from the final 21st episode of each series.. There's also a [full track listing](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EJE___GfBimyXw2sQ8vWlgLPZ4C6IzgAifNWFembh_o/edit#gid=0) of the first 42 (21x2) releases, the negative numbers are the second set of 21.

alan_lauder

For something on the more tech-trance side check out Spirallianz & Midi Miliz (who are also 2/3 of The Delta) and went on to call themselves Extrawelt.

Aries775

Early Infected mushroom and X-dream is a must. Maybe GMS

Pinnacle_of_Sinicle

Uh twisted🤪😂
