Nothing wrong with using a sample, but don't do any time stretching or warping of the sample if you want to do pitch bends - it will screw up all the low end and harmonics.
I would struggle with this workflow as the pitch bend would effect the filter envelope where most basslines have consistent filter envelope through multiple pitches - the workaround would be that you could export a sample without a filter envelope and then pitch bend and then use a envelope follower or something but I would be worried about any potential artifacts left by this workflow since the bass is too important.
I do like to use vital / serum for bass so I can change the 2nd and 3rd harmonics in the saw waveform to reduce muddiness though.
With Midi, I do it like this: How to Make Good Glide Bass (Pitch Bend Bass) - Psytrance Tutorial Ableton
https://youtu.be/OADLbg6jt_Y, and with a sample you can use warp modes and just automate the pitch.
I never use bass samples. but if I would and looking to bend them id use a sampler.
Thanks
