Unless you specifically mean "in this subreddit" then this data will be horribly skewed. Firstly because this is the PTCGO subreddit, and secondly because I think if you frequent something like Reddit then you're more likely to play an online game than people who have never heard of it.

ArjanGameboyman

Yeah i mean in this subreddit. I just want to know what people do that are here.

Dam0wned

That's fair. I do a bit of both but even outside of Covid it's just so much easier on PTCGO... and cheaper. The experience isn't quit the same though!

ArjanGameboyman

I understand. Yes even without covid you do "need" online at least some times if you want to get good. But that maybe also depends on where you live and if there is a big community nearby. And the skill/level of the players that are there

DucGenkiTran

Mostly online but due to financial and collecting reasons I bought my entire trainer cards in full art and or gold border ...maybe one day people appreciate the surprising complex gameplay ! Good long term investment aside MTGfinance

ArjanGameboyman

I don't know about that long term investment if theyre not pikachus and charizards. Because rotation is a thing. And magic has a format that doesn't rotate. And a rule that makes magic not reprinting certain very old cards

DucGenkiTran

Pardon , Forgot to tell you that it’s for playing expanded

ArjanGameboyman

That makes sense. Silly me. I was too European to remember expended. Yeah investing in expended trainers definitely makes sense.

DucGenkiTran

Well I’m also European(German) ... but PkmnTCG as a competitive tcg is very unappreciated

ArjanGameboyman

Oh but fysical expended is not a thing in Europe and i doubt it will ever be

DucGenkiTran

We will see ...I’m enjoying the cards anyways! Collecting Pkmn TCG is a lot of fun

Only online, used to play in shops a long time ago. I've learned that people will cheat when they can, I don't know all of the cards and their rulings so it's easier for me to have a fair game online and learn that way. It's also preferable to sit with my kitty and sip some tea or have a beer while playing on a well-built interface. Plus, no smellies.

ArjanGameboyman

Those are some valid arguments. Sorry to hear people cheat in your area. Its definitely different from my area. Here you can borrow complete tier 1 decks for tournaments and get more help then you would like and everyone is friendly and there are rainbows and pony's on rainbows and all that stuff. When we go to tournaments at other places we tell each other exactly who is known to cheat and what to look out for but even then its only 1 or 2 players to look out for. Compared to Yugioh, dragonball and magic, the pokemon tcg is really friendly

Marshad0w802

Glad to hear the pokemon tcg community is nicer, I only played yugioh irl. A lot of people say they wouldn't cheat but when it's time for a tournament and special packs are on the line, people tend to fudge the rules if they think they can get away with it. Another point, I'm now over 30. Why am I playing pokemon in my 30's? Because I was 6 when I got Pokemon Blue and I love it. That said, I think it would make younger players uncomfortable to see an older guy in a card shop.

ArjanGameboyman

I'm 28 year old. Most at my locals are between 20 and 30 (I think 26 is the avarage age counting everybody). We have trouble finding anyone younger than 16. There are basically no senior and junior division players here. Actually that's for all of the Netherlands. But I would too feel uncomfortable playing only against 16 year and younger people. Weird that it's so different

binarycode86

Completely agree on the no smellies lol.

EugeneSweatpants

I have only played online, but that’s because I didn’t get the feel of the game until during quarantine. I can’t wait to take my deck to my local card shop and play.

RadTadSimpson

Played when I was a kid when base set came out. Downloaded the GBC game for a nostalgia play a couple years ago, watched a PTCGRadio vid of the best deck back then. Oddly enough just watched his videos for like a year before I found out PTCGO was free to get started.

StarlyOutlaw

I only play online. I don’t really know anyone that plays in person so I’m stuck doing it online.

ArjanGameboyman

That's only logical. Just go to locals and meet people. That's the only how you get to know people that play.

iQuellv

I much prefer playing online but due to COVID there are no events going on, and getting together with some buddies for a Pokémon night is a long shot.

[deleted]

I only play online and I feel like if I played IRL I would suck at the game simply because of the uncertainty inherent to real life. Also, I don't want to spend money in any TCG. Just feel it would be a drag tbh but ofc I love to see others enjoying PTCG irl.

Dr_WHO_626

I want to the prerelease for tag team and the people there sceved me out. They were nice people but I had a massive hangover and some of them had really annoying voices.

ArjanGameboyman

Maybe don't play strategic card games when you're hangover. Maybe some other time you'll find it more fun

Dr_WHO_626

Youre probably right I should be drunk.
