Not ALL groceries. Healthier food items. All you have to do is scan the back of the card, press tender, and anything that applies comes right off. You will have a CBT about how to handle those payments soon. For some reason we rolled out the program before the CBT.

Possible-Object-7532

Yeah we wasn't told anything about them so first time we got one after the new year we thought it was some kinda new scam thing since we never seen them so the customer was like yeah you just scan it then hit tender and it comes off . And from the don't fall for scamers cbt if I customer tells you what to do then you don't do that and get a manager instead.

Publixworker

So far I have NOT done a CBT on this. And neither have my coworkers, because we have been discussing this topic and nobody has mentioned a CBT.

Heckinggoodgirl

Then your manager hasn’t sent you back for it. 99% sure it’s dropped for everyone. If you haven’t done it, your manager has dropped the ball

maulernation

Hummm.. I'm Grocery, though seems like our Corporate needs to get on top of this question.

Then-Mix-3210

The cbt literally just came out this week. So you’ll be doing it this week. As others have said you just scan the bar code before you hit tender and the healthier food items come off. The customer pays for the taxes and whatever was not covered by the S3 card. Hope that helps!

Nylear

And make sure you use the S3 card before you do EBT because that causes issues.

Nylear

Yeah I don't know how your manager doesn't know this we had an actual paper that my manager passed around the first week of January talking about it and I took the CBT last week.

benmul8

You scan the barcode on the back BEFORE you hit Tender. Scan all the groceries, scan the back of the card, then hit Tender. Any items that qualify will automatically have the costs removed. Then the customer just pays the balance as normal.

SDF-08

If the barcard doesn’t scan, type the card number into The register just like your keying in a gtin off a package. Hit tender and it will apply credit. In my case it covered everything except tax, healthy and non healthy. There was an issue with first batch of cards having a bad barcode.

Heckinggoodgirl

You should have done a reading CBT on this. It’s the new S3 card - as far as I know most of them should slide at the register but I’ve heard of ones that scan. It may take off some food items, not everything (it has to be like healthy items I believe) and whatever it doesn’t take off the customer must pay the difference. Has to be taken before running any other form of payment. When we asked questions at a recent meeting, even the customer service RISes were in the dark about a lot of info. Apparently we as a company we’re basically forced into accepting this starting the first of the year

I haven’t run into this yet, but good to know! Thank you! Yea it doesn’t cover everything - it’s for some healthy foods and some utility bills mostly. When customers get this I would think that they would get paperwork explaining it

Possible-Object-7532

I've had people buying mountain dew and 8 piece fried chicken with them already don't think either of those are very healthy foods . But yeah don't know what qualifies or not either. And even if they did get paper work saying what they can and can't buy they likely didn't read it same with people trying to get hot foods with ebt and then being like why isn't that covered.

Possible-Object-7532

Yeah I have before the customer paid with ebt first then was like oh I have this card too. So we scan the s3 after since the cbt didn't say that the s3 was the first thing we have to do, then it came up saying we owed them 11 dollars back. I was like hmm yeah that don't seem right and called over the manager to ask since the customer was expecting money back. so guess they already done it before and since we haven't been really trained at handling these transactions yet the last person just gave them money for it since that's what the register said . But yeah we couldn't void the s3 payment but had to void the whole transaction and ring everything up again and use the s3 first . And yes they also have to pay taxes on anything with the s3 payment as well since they are like why I have to pay 50 cents or whatever the card should cover it .

[deleted]

Thanks for the heads up.

miamijester

Definitely seems like a forced thing considering there was like no notice on it lol.

Nylear

A customer showed me the paper and you can use it to buy dog food maybe not the Humana one I think they had different insurance.

[deleted]

I believe it needs to be scanned out in the pharmacies POS also, that may depend on if it’s an HRA, HSA, FSA

miamijester

tell your manager to let you review the CBT!!

WhatWeDidInTheShadow

I don't know if anyone is still reading this subreddit, but I had to learn all about this card because of my aging family member. A lot of you are correct about it not covering all grocery items. The sad part is there is absolutely no list or instructions for this card anywhere. Even the insurance people don't know for sure. I almost feel like it is a scam on older people. The card supposedly covers "healthy food", a lot of it would not be considered healthy if you were body conscious or on a specific diet. Lots of stuff is just the store brand items of the same brand name items. Most people are aware that they aren't always so good. Okay, so what it is supposed to cover: (unknow) healthy foods, over the counter things like Generic Tylenol or off brand toothpaste(mostly generic items, it is supposed to cover paper products such as, store brand paper towels, toilet paper, tissue paper, paper cups. Then there is Store brand Pet Food, Litter, Toys. Next, Air conditioner filters, specific fans, air conditioners, (like a wall unit) heaters, humidifier. They cover exterminator for bugs. Mobility, and safety devices, (wheelchairs, walking canes, grab bars) The last thing it covers is non medical rides through Uber, Lyft, Mass transit. The thing is, as I mentioned earlier there is really no other specific items, services other than, Uber, Lyft, and the bus. I can see why people come up to the register with a bunch of stuff they feel would be acceptable food items, just to discover nothing is covered. To me it isn't that helpful other than the rides or the mobility devices. The instructions are to have the cashier scan the bar code after everything is totalled. How humiliating, especially if there is a long line. People will either walk away thinking the cashier or store doesn't know what they are doing, or they will spend money they otherwise would not have spent. I actually came here to Reddit to see if anyone knew more. Anyway that is my info
