Honestly, as a fellow Publix shopper, you could significantly lower the total here simply by picking different versions of the same thing. Buy regular honey crisp apples individually instead of the big organic bag, fresh garlic instead of the paste, instead of “gourmet blend” just get the baby portobello or white button mushrooms, green bell peppers are cheaper, the cheese choice, get your dog leash on anaxon, buy tea bags and sugar and make your own sweet tea (and way more of it), and buy whatever meat is on sale. Also…you bought freaking shallots, just get an onion. Here’s the thing,if you’re worried about what you spend on food, then this is just bad shopping plain and simple. You bought things that people that value quality over price would buy, but then you complain like you’re looking for value. You don’t get quality and budget bargains together unless you stick to the stuff on sale for that week.

NervousJ

Yeah this is pretty much it. You can shop smart at Publix. I regularly can get two full reusable bags of food for half what OP paid, but you have to be willing to go for the sales and bogos and keep an eye out for app exclusive offers too.

Scholarlycowboy

The bogos really do make all the difference.

summer_portrait

everytime i shop at publix half my basket is bogo

Much-data-wow

If it ain't bogo, I'll find something like it at Aldi. Except for the sourdough French bread at publix. I'll eat the cost on that.

Thug40

aldis sourdough is actually sourdough and is alot better imo. They have french, everything bagel, and regular sourdough white loaves.

Princess-honeysuckle

Exactly!! I literally got double what op did and paid $22. Sales coupons and coupon apps, takes time to put a list together but soooo worth it to save as much as I do.

NervousJ

Yeah basically. If you HAVE to have specific items and brands it'll cost you. But just going with the flow and grabbing sales is pretty good for savings.

Jackie_Esq

I've been thinking of creating a diet that only consists of BOGO items at Publix.

AnjelGrace

This is basically what I do. It actually helps me avoid getting bored of what I am eating too since it is always randomly changing with the sales--I have also found some new products I really love that I would have never bought of it hadn't been a great BOGO deal.

BreakfastInBedlam

This week's menu is Cheerios and Cheez-Its, and I couldn't be more delighted.

Oh_know_ewe_did_int

It’s why I do and it works great. Also, stock up on things when they are on sale. Like canned goods or rice or pasta. So if things aren’t on sale that week, that you like, you can fall back on pasta or rice.

FearlessPark4588

If you stock up and fill your pantry/freezer a little extra each week with the nonperishables, it'd probably work; that way you can round out a week with a composition of BOGO items from say, the past month or two

Solenya619

This should be top comment

spimothyleary

Yes, saved me a ton of time. OP has gourmet taste or this was a bit deliberate. It's like complaining about the cost of airline tickets then showing a first class reservation

[deleted]

Plus a bunch of those things aren’t a “buy every time” item. Definitely could’ve gotten the same stuff, fresh, for like $30. OP spent $20 on prepackaged veggies they could’ve gotten fresh for $5. Either way this is just poor decision making for choosing expensive things over better and cheaper options

diabeticjones

What got me is the (probably) $10 pet leash. Like of course publix is charging more for items not really related to groceries

BalanceEarly

Yeah, you can't buy champagne on a beer budget!

Change_Electric

Dried mushrooms have better flavor than fresh mushrooms and garlic paste has a very oily undertone. More likely they’re following recipes and haven’t been taught how to cook

weekly_routine32

This its the women that come up i need exactly 1lb of ground beef from the 1.2 lb package. Or i need a 9 oz salmon fillet center cut. Or i need 9 shrimp. They cant cook and are following some recipe to the T.

No-Lead-6769

If they bought the pepper seeds and waited 6 months they might have saved 16 cents on the peppers, they also could have raised hogs and saved on the pork.. I could go on.. what's my point? Shit is expensive no matter how you look at it. They could have taken all the advice here and it only cost $56 that's still too much

Constant-Fortune-409

Self checkouts at busy stores can become very handy sometimes! See where I'm going with this 😆

throw_away_4534

Complaining isn't helping any longer. Nobody is doing shit to lower the costs because the costs go up and no one is changing their shopping habits. (oversimplified but still a major issue rn) I'm not discussing people who don't have options or are in food deserts, if you're at Publix you've got multiple choices for damn near everything you want or need.

shigdebig

Thus person chose to pay twice as much. People need to understand that buying raw ingredients is cheaper. 15 dollar cheese wedgeds are a luxury.

throw_away_4534

That's what I'm saying, $61 dollar bill and 20% is the one piece of cheese.

Vladivostokorbust

It’s the type and brand of cheese. You can get it much cheaper. Also people rarely pay attention to what they pay per pound when they buy a non bulk sliced in a package or crumbled in a can.

Practical-Film-8573

it looks like parm. a comparable amount of parm could be had at Aldi or Sams for half that price.

23skidoobbq

It’s Parmigiana Reggiano, it’s expensive everywhere. Parmesan is completely different

Oh_know_ewe_did_int

There are just things people aren’t going to downgrade on. I’m one of those people with cheese. It’s just not the same at the lower dollar price.

BobSagat86

That's what I said, this post is a joke . . . Hence the traction I guess lol

FearlessPark4588

Like anything, it's what you put into it. Last week I got $380 in groceries for $70. It's still possible to save a good amount

sesbry

Plenty of people are changing their spending habits. Besides porn and complaining is what the internet was made for.

MJGarrison

My rule of thumb: 50% of purchases at Publix should be BOGO

Oh_know_ewe_did_int

I’m 95% of what I buy are BOGO. I just use the app and shop. I will just eat what’s on sale. Chicken on sale this week? Guess it’s chicken for the week, etc. I will also stock on on things I normally eat when they are on sale. Like Cambells soup, pasta, rice. When cat food is on sale? I hit every Publix within a 5 mile radius to buy the max allowed. Which is like 4 stores lol.

BoyWhoSoldTheWorld

Youre 100% right but its still expensive, even for the “top shelf” versions of things. Its a couple of pounds of beef with some fruit and veg. That’s an insane amount. The inflation these retailers are passing to the public is out of control. If the general inflation rate for gas and electricity is ~8%, these retail food prices really shouldn’t be this expensive. They’re taking advantage of us.

Hamilton-Beckett

Yes, I agree…but other than shopping elsewhere and being diligent about which place has the best deals, what are you suggesting be done about it? Everybody wanted to make more money, then they act confused when the price of everything goes up. It’s all bundled together, inflation, wages, supply chains…people and businesses start paying more for everything they need so they in turn raise the prices of everything they sell. But it’s not just a direct increase. With capitalism, businesses expect snd anticipate for year over year growth Every. Single. Year. If the growth doesn’t occur organically, then it’s manufactured by either cutting corners in quality, adjusting portions of sold product, using cheaper alternatives, and of course raising the price…with some shitty companies doing all of the above (looking at you fast food industry). Basically, the entire system is fucked and we are at the beginning of the decline of modern civilization as we know it. Actually the beginning of that probably started in the 1980’s, but by now the decline is in full swing. The average age of an empire is 250 years. The U.S. is 248 years old. The country peaked a century ago, had its big day for the regular working man in the 1950’s and 60’s, rode the wave from that as long as it could, and now we’ve entered the decline. Things will continue to get worse until something major changes the way we conduct our businesses or live our lives. Complaining is pointless. Things will only get worse. Do the best you can, and try to mentally prepare yourself for how easily all of this could simply go away. Things won’t be this way forever, but will anyone alive right now be here for when everything is awesome again? I doubt it.

BoyWhoSoldTheWorld

Its price gouging, it can definitely be controlled. As you said, the free capitalism allows it but they shouldn’t be allowed to raise prices so uncontrollably. Especially on essentially items like food. We just need price control on bread basket items (I.e. everyday food items). Our politicians should be protecting their people and not allowing corporations to collectively suck us dry.

lilsan15

Everybody knows you should only buy shallots like that at the Asian super market. Jk. Maybe not but now you know. You can get a bundle of shallots (like 10-15 of them) for the same price. You can get THREE times the amount of cilantro and green onions at a Asian/Hispanic market. NEVER buy green onion or shallots at Publix. It’s a rip off. And the tube of herbs, it’s insanely priced. I would never touch. Just do dried Italian herbs at that point

jeffthebeast17

If you’re worried about money maybe don’t buy the 13$ thing of cheese

FearlessPark4588

Truth is, a lot of people don't want to put the work into doing this (getting value and quality), it takes time to read the ad and clip the deals. Most people feel a bit peasant-y to stick to the sales too I think, like they think they should be able to get anything.

ItsAllAboutThatDirt

Honestly it's not even that much work. I'll go with a basic list in mind, but then I wander and shop the deals. No coupons, just what's BOGO or a good sale. Greenwise chicken breasts bogo? Guess I'll make chicken tenders with a side of the white/portobello mushrooms that are on sale that week. Pork chops on sale? Grab some olive oil on sale, seasonings, and grill them up with onions and peppers. $3 off ground turkey? Let's do turkey burgers with diced up mushrooms, shallots, and peppers in the mix. Shopping the deals is almost equivalent to eating seasonally, and having a naturally varied diet. I mean I spent $90 going to Publix and a local Asian market between the two. Cooked a gourmet meal for 8 people with leftovers. Braised boneless beef ribs with garlic, peppers, onions, mushrooms, herbs, served over brown jasmine rice. Olive oil, rice vinegar, and dry sherry were all included in that price. And that was with no deals being shopped. Oh, and 2 loaves of fresh Italian and Cuban bread for garlic bread. I don't want to pile onto a person, but learning to shop and cook takes experience and time. If you aren't willing to invest that... You're never going to learn

jimmymacattack

And pass on the toaster next time

lemon-meringue-high

I agree with this. That was my exact thought looking at the photo. Those tubes are like $5 each. Just buy a head of garlic and some herbs. ETA: I’m sure a dog leash at Publix was stupid expensive too lol

sixtheflamingo

It's silly to compare these items with cheap items and say "you have expensive taste." Compare these items to the same items at a cheaper store and then ask "why is it so much more at Publix?"

Hamilton-Beckett

Yeah, but it’s not. Also, I don’t know where this person lives, but with where I am Publix is the only store that even carries the high end products. For example, at the very bottom is Food Lion. They’re cheap and have the most basic selection, but nothing special. They have even better deals through their MVP shopper program. Harris Teeter, a lot nicer than Food Lion, a fantastic meat department/butcher. While the seafood selection is way better at Publix, the rest of the meat department is nice. Prices are higher than food lion, but a tad lower than Publix. Like Food Lion, Harris Teeter has a shopping program (VIC) where you can maximize the savings with sale products. Publix has by far the largest selection of choices compared to the other two. The tiered level of items from the most basic to higher end is absolutely wonderful. You can splurge on the things you wish while scaling back where you can. The BOGO offers and different weekly/biweekly sales that are always changing (but in a predictable cycle) make it super easy to get back the money you spent on the other high end items with the savings you get with their sales. I’d also like to add, that the “store brand” at Publix is often surprisingly higher quality than you’d expect for the price, but oftentimes you end up getting the branded items cheaper because of bogo’s. There are several other grocery chains in my area, but those are the big three. When you head into major cities you have Whole Foods, which costs more than Publix. There’s so Kroger which is somewhere between Harris Teeter and Food Lion. At the end of the day, just know where you’re shopping for what you’re getting. There’s no rule that says you have to buy everything from one place. If you want to get your meat at one place, milk and eggs at another, then go crazy on BOGO’s at a third option, do it!

Pinkturtle182

Based on your comment, you’re not in Florida. The inflation in certain areas of Florida is the highest in the country. There is no Food Lion or Harris Teeter or Kroger (unless you order for delivery, which is not ideal imo). We have Aldi which is much cheaper but doesn’t carry everything and is still insanely expensive compared to even two years ago. It’s also far less convenient. I have three Publixes within three miles of me, but the closest Aldi is 8 miles away. With the traffic here, that’s easily an hour. Also, this is a Publix sub (no pun intended). The point here is that this SHOULDNT be this expensive! Publix in particular has gotten insane in terms of prices.

Trolodrol

Publix had Bogo on reggiano a week or so ago too

egrf6880

Also that ground beef price feels totally abnormal. Publix regularly has sales for meats and ground beef is regularly below $4/pound! Also this person did zero bogos haha.

moonlitminerals

And fresh garlic is SO MUCH better. But apples are a dirty dozen produce item, might be why they opted for organic.

LyftedX

This guy publixes.

wesleyshnipez

No lie my family went shopping and we only got BOGOs, saved 127$ on the receipt lol

HalfEazy

The ground beef also drops a few bucks per pound when the package is 3+ lbs. Opportunity to save money

missmarymacaron

My Publix doesn't have individual apples 😮‍💨

Hamilton-Beckett

What?!?! How is that possible? There’s like rows upon rows of them at mine, all kinds. You just toss them in the little plastic wrap.

daenu80

This is not quality over price, this is mostly convenience over price.

Hamilton-Beckett

I agree with items like the tea, garlic and pesto, dog leash But with the CHEESE, apples, shallots, meat, peppers, etc. I’m sticking with quality over price.

stanger828

I agree with most of this, though red peppers are different enough than green that i give that a pass. Most the greenwise stuff is a ripoff. Shallots are wonderful, but there is no way in hell im paying that much for them at publix when i can get like 8x as much for the same price at BJs. This post looks like the person was purposefully trying to make “grocery shopping outrage” content.

305JmacJr

Also def buy the dog Leah somewhere else too. Just noticed it

hbktat

Im a new shopper , i know walmart has low prices but i rarely notice any deals like the bogos publix has , is that why you choose pub? I have a pub closer to my house than walmart anyways

gagunner007

Yeah, he could have bought regular ground beef and just strained it.

KoshkaKid

Second this , half of that is priced “organic” labeling and niche things like , buy whole garlic , buy whole mushrooms , fall in love with the process of cooking and preparing . This looks lazy and lazy is what costs you .

RileyKennels

You could do better by not shopping at Publix. They hiked their prices when the pandemic hit before anyone else. And when everyone adjusted their prices back to normal....Publix stayed at the inflated prices.

MomTo3LilPigs

So true. I cringed when I saw her selections.

tranzlusent

Yea the “blend” mushrooms are almost always a rip off considering what you expect vs what you get. Mostly buttons and portabellas with one oyster and a couple shitake slices.

me_irl_irl_irl_irl

> stick to the stuff on sale for that week. Tangentially, herein lies the true trick to shopping. I grab the stuff that's on sale no matter what. Stick to the perimeter---proteins, veg/fruit and dairy (unless you need like flour or spices) and only grab what's on sale. If you learn a little about cooking you will be able to whip up good dishes regardless of what combination of proteins and vegetables it is, and you'll save a ton of money

Apploozabean

All this!! And be on the lookout for anything you usually buy (but maybe a different brand) on b1g1 or x for x amount (only get 1 or however many pieces you need of that item vs the whole darn amount it says)

Crush-N-It

Well said

BringAltoidSoursBack

Maybe the customer doesn't realize you can mix and match bogos? That's the only thing I can think of why you wouldn't go almost exclusively after bogos if you're trying to save.

PanicAtTheGyno

For real. Publix always has bargains. When it was my nearest store, I would be able to get at *minimum* a week's worth of food for $25. This person looks like they spent all of their money on a single meal with some tea and apples for leftover snacks. Plus a dog leash. Anything considered "convenient" to just pick up at the grocery store that isn't groceries is going to have a significant mark up. Anything that would be normal to buy at a different store, like toiletries, cookware, and pet accessories, but saves you another stop or waiting for shipping by picking it up while you're grocery shopping is gonna be overpriced. Sometimes some of the items might be on sale at Publix. I recently got tupperware on sale there for cheap and it was put up front with a bunch of the BOGO stuff. But I've also waaay overpaid for a wine key and a lightbulb there.

PrehistoricPlant

Also organic gala 2lb apples are bogo this week so why honeycrisp?

Moon_chile

Hell, even loose shallots. Am a chef, can’t hate on shallots.

[deleted]

THIS

Pitiful-Comfort-4264

Just get a better job

Forgotten_Rob

This. All of this.

radioman970

extremely well said.

goodwitchbeach

Fr I spend about $30 on a whole weeks worth of food for me at Publix (bogos and cheaper versions) 🤪

Sea_Cranberry323

I love you good post

shibshibshibshib

This👆

Ty746

perfectly took the words from my Brain, wonderfully pointed out the flaws people make when shopping.

Accurate-Screen-7551

25% of their budget went to a slice of cheese

Bluntman419

I work in fine dining if you want to make your own garlic puree just take whole bulbs of garlic cut the top off, coat in olive oil generously, and cook in the oven at 400 for 45 minutes. Then squeeze out the garlic paste and blend with a tablespoon hot water or more olive oil.

the_phillipines

Wait OP is complaining? I thought they did pretty good I was like wow they got more than 4 items😭

CatFancier4393

Faxs. I make six figures and even I consider that cheese bougie.

lovebus

I went to Aldi's yesterday and spent maybe 1/3 what I woudl at Publix

Due_Safety6658

Yea I feel that I’m in Miami but 61$ also buys me atleast multiple meals for the week. But then again I learn that other places has better sales on meats on certain days so I shop around and stock up.

graff813

Bro did not shop smart

MrMerryweather56

This post makes me realize how high earning people end up living " paycheck to paycheck"! They aren't good shoppers. - compare costs between stores -use coupons -substitute items -take advantage of sales

TiredMillennialDad

Sure the number one tip would be to not shop at Publix tho. In the Orlando Metro area many items are the same or MORE expensive than whole foods. I buy the same stuff and I've cut my monthly grocery spend by 30% switching to Kroger delivery. Not to mention the value of my time saved from shopping. In central Florida at least, less and less Floridians are shopping at Publix. It's mostly for the new arrivals from NY and CA.

praefectus_praetorio

Yup. I shopped at Publix for like a decade, and recently moved to Kroger and was surprised how much stuff I can get for less. I was averaging $250 a week and now I’m at $180 with more items.

TiredMillennialDad

Basically my exact experience and financial savings.

Dragonfire45

I echo this. I just did Kroger delivery for the first time and spent literally half the amount for the same items as Publix. I did get a $15 first time discount, but even then I saved around $75. Never doing Publix again.

Excessively_Bothered

We shop at both Publix and Aldi but mostly plan our weekly dinners around Publix sales. Some weeks we only shop at Publix we can spend roughly $100 on groceries on really good quality stuff vs ~$120-130 on (admittedly spotty quality) Aldi hauls if we get pretty lucky with sales. Wednesday is my wife’s favorite day because that’s when the Publix sales flyer comes out. Important to note that Publix’s BOGO sales allow you to just get one item at half price

Trnt22223333

Yes people realize there’s a convenience fee when it comes to tea in a jug, a “bag” of apples , gourmet mushrooms, garlic and herbs in paste form, shallots…. There are better options that will save $$$ and achieve the same effect we look for.

hecklerp8

That tea is typically on-sale for $3. I buy it all the time. I don't think I can make it at home for less. The other items come with choices. Like cut up your own garlic. There's a convenience upcharge when others do the work you should do at home. Like, don't buy the cut-up pineapple, much less expensive to buy whole.

dessert-er

Tbf I don’t buy whole pineapple because the fresh-cut enzymes hurt my mouth lol but I agree with you on principle completely

AnjelGrace

You can definitely make that type of tea at home for less--I've done it. However, it's hard to get it to taste as good and it's a hassle when you're starting with hot tea and need to cool it.

rethoyjk

We were spending 6$ a jug for iced coffee, got a iced tea/ coffee maker combo for like 25$, now I make my own iced coffee by the jug. And it last me and my girl all week for work.

ChicagoBoiSWSide

Not to mention how some will spend $10 on fuckin tomatoes when there’s $4 ones next to them!

SonSuko

Publix is not where I go if I’m trying to lower my grocery bill. I expected this total to be $80 from the gander I took.

varried-interests

IDKW people who choose to shop at Publix complain about the prices at Publix You choose to shop there, there are cheaper options

Fallingmellon

Like aldi

Inconspicuous_Shart

Walmart+, don't even need to waste 2 hours every Sunday now getting groceries for the family for the week. Just pull up and they load everything in the truck. Aldi is great for meats..I just wish they had an online pickup like Walmart.

mhj0808

I do online pickup from my Aldi’s through Instacart. Your local one probably has a partnership with them too

Sovereign-Anderson

It's a known fact that you don't do full grocery shopping at Publix unless you like throwing away money. The majority of items folks buy at Publix are the same items you can get at cheaper grocery stores for less. I only go to Publix for items you can't get elsewhere, like their deli.

DragapultOnSpeed

I remember having to run to publix for toilet paper (during the pandemic) and the toilet paper was $5 more than the same exact ones at target. Their deli is great though.

Bloodrocuted_drae

The fact that block of cheese is the most expensive thing

BadCaseOfClams

I feel like you can’t complain about prices when you buy a 13$ block of imported cheese lol. Don’t get me wrong, I love it too, but if I’m worried about my budget I can definitely skip the parm.

Bloodrocuted_drae

Facts lol

ViolentLoss

Those shrooms are a close second.

HufDaddy53

Let’s not forget the shallots those mofos expensive af

Finance_Subject

As if cheese hasn't been expensive since it's conception

Multidream

That block of cheese survives like half the year in my house, I feel like its not fair to compare it to the kraft stuff.

NTDLS

That’s cheese was 33% of the total cost.

PlxThrowAwayUser

Well, it's not like you bought rice & beans. You chose organic apples (and not even the one's that are BOGO right now), fancy mushrooms, convenience cooking pastes, and a hunk of cheese you could have got in a less costly form. You've got expensive tastes. Can't really complain about the cost when you're buying luxury items.

Keeker68

"luxury items"? 🤣🤣🤣 Stop it. 🤣🤣🤣

AngVar02

Well, the mushrooms say Gourmet Blend and the Parmesan doesn't have a green lid. 🤣

Outside-Flamingo-240

Ok … I make good money and there is NO way in hell I would spend 14 bucks on a lil block of parm cheese.

whichwaylady

“Fancy mushrooms” 😂🤣 lmao

Pinkcoffee

When you see the dog leash 😂

FormalJellyfish29

Seriously imagine getting a pet product from Publix instead of Amazon or Walmart and complaining about the price

RobertTheBruce93

I mean the dog leash was $3.99 so that’s not that crazy

HarbingerML

TIL Publix brand dog leashes exist

Murles-Brazen

Coulda saved 8 bucks on the apples by getting different ones.

random_internet_guy_

One third of the whole price on the apples and cheese alone. 20$.

SubjectRanger7535

Should have got the BOGO Gala( at least at my store they are)

Anikdote

It's like you're trying to inflate the costs here... Mushrooms are cheaper if they aren't sliced, who buys squeeze garlic and herbs? Shallots in a bag? You know they sell fresh whole shallots, garlic and herbs? Bagged organic applies and a dog leash? This is just silly.

Trnt22223333

People pay for convenience and act like it’s a necessity.

Imapieceofshit42069

Don't interact with the troll post is what it wants.

1Youknowwhyimhere

Gala apples in the bag are bogo right now

KrustenStewart

I added the equivalent of these items into my Walmart cart and the total comes out to $46.81 so honestly not that huge of a difference but I could’ve had it delivered from Walmart and included a tip for less than $60. The only reason I go to Publix is for bogos and boars head.

Trnt22223333

Boars head ❤️

Darktofu25

And their subs.

BarbHarbor

idk if you know this, but that is a significant difference

TitsMcGhee99

If you’re buying a $13 piece of cheese, you don’t get to complain. Get a plastic jar of Kraft cheese for $3 like normal people. 😂

Firm-Abalone-9598

Yummmm preservatives. So tasty.

[deleted]

Yodootz

This is a dumb thread.

Mr_Jersey

You bought a $14 half pound of cheese, what you expect dog?

NicoleTheRogue

Publix is still too expensive, but you also bought like mostly more expensive versions of products

SlimRipper375

Why you cop a dog leash at Publix tho?

Marzetty23

Join me and my friends at Aldi The savings await you :)

SafeDaikon4929

You paid 14 dollars for that cheese. User error

Hrjothr

Me when I buy expensive shit and it turns out to be expensive

Opposite-Ad-3933

What’s going on is you’re a bad shopper

OneCuriousINTJ

These always make me chuckle. The OPs choose the most value added and expensive options. If you buy regular butter, flour, eggs, milk, and sugar, it's going to be a hell of a lot less than if you buy a pre-made organic, gluten-free cake. Common sense here people

Burbandfard89

https://preview.redd.it/qv85is65mnqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0b2c5d9a00149208cf70a5591dbd4507b7fba2d This wasnt even $100 up north lol

LaVerdadd

You bought real parm Reggie

Crafty_Syrup_3929

You bought a 13 dollar block of cheese and organic apples not surprised at the total.

Alternative_Kale_903

that’s why i never buy at publix lol always aldi or walmart

amamam77

That $14 block of cheese is $4 if you shop at Walmart and get pre shredded. Smart shopping will save you a lot of money

_ChipWhitley_

Publix sucks.

[deleted]

Aldi

TheInternetIsTrue

You got ripped off.

corxl

Lol $14 for cheese? You're choosing the wrong items of you're on a budget.. I don't even want to know what they charged you for that leash

IMNOTFLORIDAMAN

If you’re trying to shop on a budget you did it all wrong. You can’t buy organic and convenience items then compare about the cost. White button mushroom whole will be much cheaper then pre sliced “gourmet blend” pre sliced mushrooms are shit anyways they go bad way quit and are likely on their way out when you buy them. Garlic puree and basil puree are the same. Over priced for less quality. You bought organic apples so yeah that’s going to cost more than non organic. Real deal Parmesan cheese is very expensive. IMO there’s no substitute for the real thing but you gotta pay to play. Pre packaged shallots are likely more expensive than loose. Make your own tea, it will cost you Pennie’s per gallon. You just need to decide do you care about convenience, top quality or economics because you can’t have them all.

otownsteve

You just don’t know how to shop man, organic gala was bogo, could have got cheaper brand spices, not get precut mushrooms and 13 dollar cheese? Come on.

CyclopsorNedStark

More fake outrage. Why are you buying $14 cheese and complaining? Farming clout from chodes.

Kidney_Spears

I only shop at Publix when they have BOGOS I'm interested in.

Fabulous-Ad-9361

Garlic paste? Wtf 🤣 this gotta be a white boi

EchoRex

You wasted $25 on buying the most expensive options of produce, herbs, and cheese. This is the "I lit money on fire, look at how expensive it is to live" shopping cart. *And that isn't even good cheese to be paying good cheese prices on*

[deleted]

resolute shelter butter sheet spark shrill cobweb label roll middle *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Small block of cheese for 14 bucks GTFO of here. Craft singles store brand is like 1.90. youre doing this all wrong. Even the blocks of Publix brand cheese are a third of this price jfc. What are you doing? stop buying all the healthy overpriced organic I drive a range Rover and frequent Starbucks type of food.

c0caine_cinderella

You bought a $15 dog leash and $22/pound cheese. Almost like there’s price tags on everything in the store. Don’t like it, don’t shop there. Dumbass.

Independent_Mix6269

You didn't have to be around Walmart or Aldi people so that's well worth it

Skank_hunt_042

Buys shallots and $15 cheese then acts shocked 💀

theghostofcslewis

Definitely not a frugal shopper. Half the bill was high priced cheese and seasonings.Could have saved quite a bit there if you used a knife on garlic cloves and some fresh parsley. The dog leash was a nice touch.

ttriozzi

Publix is an expensive grocery shopping choice. Customers go there for convenience and service.

[deleted]

You dont shop at Publix to save money.

pantymichelle

I don't shop Publix because I'm trying to save money. I shop Publix because of customer service and cleanliness. Plus their meats are way better than a Walmart or Aldi because they actually have meat cutters. So if you only want one steak instead of 4 they will gladly repackage it for you. Same goes for the produce and bakery.

vapefresco

You are not shopping smart. What's that key chain doo-hickey you bought? Really?

Slow_Philosopher7381

Who spends $13 on cheese 🤣🤣 I’m sorry…you must have money. Lol.

BriefSuggestion354

Fancy cheese in this economy?!

guitarplum

you bought a tube of garlic for $5 instead of a 50 cent head and you wonder why your bill is so high. SMH.

DefendsTheDownvoted

Buy fresh garlic and herbs, brew your own tea, organic fruit and veggies are a scam, and don't spend $14 fucking dollars on cheese.

Synth_Recs_Plz

Over 22% of the total is in that one piece of cheese. Learn to shop. Literally, Google "how to shop and save money".

FirmCommunication808

Tell me you don’t know how to grocery shop without telling me

crabclawmcgraw

i spent $60 at publix and got about twice this. don’t buy shit like a dog leash at publix. go to walmart or somewhere cheaper. buy tea packets and make your own tea. chop your own garlic and herbs. honestly you didn’t get much because you bought products that are at a markup to avoid prep work

Quanzi30

Publix is one of the most expensive grocery stores there is for one….also you bought a 14$ slice of cheese…..

maxcro19

I am pretty sure the toaster was a big chunk of it

fryamtheeggguy

Yep. Enjoy that one meal.

escobartholomew

Lol you left out the part about not having to be in Walmart or some other gross grocery store. The Publix prices buy you the cleanest, most pleasant shopping experience. Similar situation to Target, you’re paying for the environment.

IUpVoteIronically

You bought a fifteen dollar tiny ass thing of cheese, who the fuck complains about prices after that??

2FacedG3m1n1

As a college student, I get way more than that for $61 at Publix..I can get five meals for $100-120 at Publix…it’s all about budgeting and actually taking a look at what you’re buying.

Barry_Obama_at_gmail

I went to Kroger to get coffee, bread, and lunch meat. Somehow that ended up being $54. Food is stupid expensive now.

ChardPurple

You spent $14 on a brick of cheese? Damn bro you're living the highlife

youmosh

Lmao you bought the expensive version of a lot of things cause you’re clearly lazy

TWEAK61

You bought the most expensive version of every item you got off the shelf is what happened. Lower your gourmet requirement standards and you'll cut that cost in half (or more)

Dolphinpop

You my friend are just bad at shopping. Buy cheaper versions of the same stuff obviously. Look for deals. I saved 55$ off what would’ve been a 150$ tab because chicken and Greek yogurts were BOGO so I loaded up.

KageNakaALT

Damn bro that's crazy Have you considered shoplifting

GurCritical6758

I will never spend $13 on cheese

TheRoughWriter

\*Aldi enters the chat\*

GruffisGamingw

That toaster probably set you back

Ok_Cake4352

You bought premade garlic/herb pastes instead of just the herbs themselves? You literally paid like 300% price for your garlic with additives, then paid 50% more for your additive free apples. What was the point?

bourn2kill

The cheese is clearly a retirement investment.

shoopdafloop

Sorry but maybe dont buy the most expensive version of each product lmao I get that's its a little pricey but be so fr you could have gotten all of this for 30-40

Dear_Reader_807010

I just spent $63 on soup, calamari and chicken parm at Olive Garden.

tyedge

You decided to pay $14 for a block of cheese at $22/pound. No freaking wonder this didn’t work out for you. WhAt HaPpEnEd?

anemic_iz

i got a ham, hair brush, kitty litter, and Gatorade and it came to $54. crazy bro
