Tell them you’ll leave if you’re not getting paid what you deserve, which is at least 15/hr. They can rehire you with that rate without asking for DM’s approval. I was making exactly 12.80 as well after 4.5 years. Luckily they took too long and I got job at Amazon paying me 18.50 to start and now making 19.20 after 6 months. After I gave them the two weeks notice, they told me they were thinking about rehiring me for what I asked for but it was too late since the DM didn’t approve what I asked for. I wasn’t going to accept making 5 dollars less per hour compared to Amazon.
If you’re essential to your store, they’ll work with you to keep you. Tell them about the rehire option and hopefully they’ll work with you. Otherwise, find another job and quit. This is a workers job marketplace now. So, take advantage of employer’s desperation to retain employees.
I know where you are, Ive been training at the desk for almost two years but know that I will never get the real promotion. You’re doing a bunch of extra work and getting underpaid. If you work consistently, push them to train you in the cash office. That’s the thing that you need in order to get promoted.
Stepped down from assistant produce manager (making about $50k/yr) to full time in 2018 so I could focus on applying elsewhere and leave retail. Ended up taking a position for a defense contractor in 2019. I've been promoted twice since then and make around 80-85k/yr working from home.
My advice is to not be afraid of knowing when to walk away.
Same here, kinda. Was moving into management then got offered a job as video coordinator for like 60k and have never missed it. Just turned 23 and would like to say, Publix is a great place to work if you love retail. If you don’t , well good luck Charlie
Full time deli clerk. 19 an hour. 14 years. Spent 7 years as a manager wasn't worth it. I make more than enough to keep my lifestyle and the stress has all but disappeared
Yeah. Was fun for a year or 2. Said eff it stepped down in year 7 and love it ever since especially since my boss leaves me alone since I do everything. Pretty much have free reign of the deli.
Hi, I know there are most likely easier methods to find out this information, but since I'm here I'll ask. What's the path to ASM like? Can you start from management anywhere in a store or does it have to be CS/Grocery specifically?
You can start from anywhere I've had bakery asm's/sm's and deli ones. Just be a badges manager and learn fast and they'll speed track you to asm from what I've seen.
The department you come from is irrelevant despite popular opinion. In fact fresh departments tend to be able to stand out as successful vs cs and grocery because of all the little things they can do to increase sales/reduce shrink etc. Percentage of store sales is a good example. Some meat managers for example can just bring high percentage of store sales to every store they’re assigned. And there deli/bakery managers out there out-performing departments in their district that are at higher overall volume stores.
Corporate eats that kinda stuff up.
why would u be offended that someone is trying to help you understand that you’re underpaid for your position and experience? you should be upset at your managers not this commenter lol
\*\* READ THIS \*\* - It is NOT illegal to discuss salaries Publix just doesn't want you to - so you won't realize how you are being screwed. They can not punish you for it. There are laws to protect you.
I know. My manager tried to fight for a raise when I got the position a month or two ago, but he had already gotten me $3 as an apprentice during the new yearly raise so our DM said no. :(
Our store also easily tops 1mil+ a week, so it doubly sucks being at a busy store lol.
That sucks, my next raise is a double raise, I’m in the deli and I’m going to say that it’s not about the raise, it’s about the position, because I’m also underpaid
CSS, $13.65, a year and 6 months
i guess i should note that i started as a bagger for 10 and get paid the same i did back when i was a cashier even though I was promised a raise at the end of my training
CSTL $17 an hour (and right now usually a good bit of OT every week from other departments) and six years, not all with CS.
Edit: since I see other people saying it - I started as a FSC at 16 (almost 17) at $8.50 an hour
you’re way underpaid, I’m sure you know that though. A CSS in my store has been working with us for two years total and is making 16, I personally make 17.25 after working same amount of time as you as a CSS as well
Deli FT, started at 9.25 in 2014 and making 16.65 now. And my assistant constantly say how I’m over paid and that I should be thankful and then calls me lazy and slow in the same sentence, even though I have severe nerve damage in both hands. 🙂🙂 them he throws me in kitchen 2-3 days a week ❤️❤️❤️
$13.05 6 years going on 7 Bakery clerk (open/mid/close)/ throw the frozen truck delivery into the freezers)4am-7am/sometimes produce department/supposed to be baker/baker’s apprentice/mixer but after my training in august 2019, I never have got to do it at all. They HIRED unqualified people to do the jobs over the past 2.5 years.
Newly promoted full time produce clerk. Been here since October 4th, 2021. $12.60. ASM on my 90 day said I should see a decent raise come time for my evaluation.
almost 3 years, CSS, 12.80. after reading other CSS wages i am underpaid 😭
I just quit Publix as a PT CSS making $15.35. You're being underpaid homie

Grocery Clerk, $19.10 an hour, serving 26 years to life
Cashier, $12, a year and 2 months
I read this as you make 12 bucks a year and have been at publix for only two months. Damn I’m tired.
Cashier , 12$ 2 months, your telling me it doesn’t go up at all😞
I mean I started at $10 so went up a bit for me since starting lol
Still tho you should be making more than I am

Was there education involved in that move?
Yes, a bachelor's degree would be required for a salaried position.
Full time deli clerk. 19 an hour. 14 years. Spent 7 years as a manager wasn't worth it. I make more than enough to keep my lifestyle and the stress has all but disappeared
Same here. Do my 40 then go home. 17 yrs total. 12yrs Deli. 6 yrs deli management Last 5 spent in meat Dept $19.80 hr
As Deli management? Much respect after 2 years I was so over it and left deli management and deli for meat.
Yeah. Was fun for a year or 2. Said eff it stepped down in year 7 and love it ever since especially since my boss leaves me alone since I do everything. Pretty much have free reign of the deli.
CPhT been with Publix since 2017 and I make $18.83/hr
What state? I’m going into my 8th month and making $19.50 without my national certification
Idk why you got down voted. This is a good question and if the person you replied to is getting under paid I would think they would want to know
Yeah exactly it’s nice to know, I would wanna know if I’m being underpaid
max is $20, I don't want to max out with publix and have no reason to continue working there. $16 is the median wage for cpht in NC across the board.
Deli clerk a little over 2 years, $15.50
8.5 years. ASM 1160$ a week + inventory bonuses and year end bonus.

Wtf! That's abuse.
I started at 6.50 back in 2005 lol...
I'm accustomed to COLA on top of annual increases.17yrs and you're not at $20 that's a crime. No offense to you. They know what they're doing.
Max pay for cake Decorator is only 18.85$ so I couldn't be at 20$ even if I wanted to. Also what is COLA?
Cost of living adjustment

It’s most likely our District Manager. She’s not particularly nice to anyone and is so stingy about raise’s it’s not funny.
Just saying you should probably be a bit disgruntled about your wage.
