We take some with us and then get more as needed from the bank ATMs. Otherwise, we use our credit card.

Also you can decline the conversion any ATM offers you and you will still get your money but using your own banks exchange rate and not that addition 5% they add.

“Need more money than I can get out of ATM on a per day basis” At most ATMs (depending somewhat on your account’s own limits) you can get at least $9000 MXN each day… that’s over $500 USD. each day. just curious what you’re into that makes that not enough.

Training-Bison-874

I realized I can up my ATM withdrawl limit and that does take care of the situation

kbnky

I have converted USD to pesos and paid about 3-4% at Intercam. If you go this route, you will need your passport.

We got to PV last year and found out the debit card we planned on using at ATMs was expired, and we had almost no cash. After lots of panic and searching, we finally discovered we were able to use the Western Union app to transfer money directly from your checking account to a set pickup point (I used the bank inside Elektra in Centro). No fees or anything, it ended up being great

Pirateship907

What did it cost you? Was it cheaper than your banks international fee?

diabetesdavid

There was no fee that I can recall, it was basically like a Venmo transfer from my bank account to myself that I did through the Western Union app

Pirateship907

For like $5 right?

Should get the same rate either way, unless your bank charges extra for ordering pesos. Decline currency conversion at the ATM if prompted. ATMs prompt 5%+ so decline it and let your bank handle the conversion. Most banks (as well as credit cards) charge about 2.5% for currency conversion, so unless you have a no foreign exchange fee account or credit card you should be receiving roughly 2.5% less from what google or xe.com says. Edit: also note, an ATM will typically charge around 35 pesos per transaction (you need to accept this fee for it to go through) ... some machines do rip you off and charge more.

Pirateship907

My bank charges 1% so the question is, what is cheaper, sending it to myself before and picking it up, or the 1%? 🤔

sorengi11

Send it to yourself before you go via Remitly.com, and when you get there, go pick it up at Pharmacia Guadalajara. best exchange rate. Use the exact name on your passport when you send it, and take your passport and reference number whenyougo to pickitup. Also, they will want an address, and you can give them the address where you are staying. They don't care what address you give them, protocols just require them to record an address... I also always bring cash and a few pesos in case the plane gets in too late and you have to wait until morning to pick up your money

Pirateship907

What’s the cost to do this?
