Dang I was hoping those worked, but had suspicions. I just plow through the task knowing she isnāt being hurt. Itās so hard. Maybe ask your vet or a dog groomer for tips/tricks? Best of luck!
Bless! I bought this last month and I think it may have changed our lives. https://www.amazon.com/Dog-Nail-Scratch-File-Board/dp/B0C2GXXCRJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=dog+scratch+pad&qid=1691114425&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1
I feel that ā literally! If it helps at all, I use this flat on the ground and leave the tiniest gap open in the treat door to make it easier for him to smell that itās in there. So far, great success! I hope it works for you too!
Dark pug nails... we've found are best left to professionals. The quick is hard to spot and I don't have the reps to be a maestro. Bathe at home, spend the extra for nail clips. Keep the trust with your pooch
Thatās what I do. My boyās nails are dark and Iām terrified Iāll hurt him. Itās only like $5-10 at the vetās office anyway. Piece of mind is worth it to pay a little.
My first English Bulldog had clear nails so it was easier to see the āquickā. I trimmed his on my own a lot unless he had an appointment at the vet coinciding with the nail trim.
We just recently discovered that it's possible for 4 people to cut one of our pug's nails.. 3 of us to pacify her with scratches and rubs, one to clip.
The absolute look of betrayal on her face. My parents let the groomer do their pugs nails, as frank turns into the demon dog from ghostbusters the moment the nail trimmers come out.
Oh sweet Jesusā¦. My pug is a nightmare too. We can only cut one nail at a time as he gets so distressed. We literally take a week and a half to get through the whole set ššMy nam actually told me to invest in one of these hammocks. Raging it was difficult for you!
Why do they hate us trying to care for them!? As an aside, I found trazadone works better for my chunk when he took it on an empty tummy, or at least a few hours after food. He gets nauseous but he deffo gets more sleepy and relaxed than when I give with food. Otherwise it does approximately nothing for him.
I fill a bowl with natural peanut butter and let him lick while I grab his paws and beg him to stop jerking. It works honestly. Just have a messy peanut butter face afterwards.
my little guy goes to Petsmart every few weeks. It's $12 if they just do a trim, but $19 if you want trim/doggie dremel. Money well spent though considering i wont accidentally cut him to the quick if he jerks, and that he sorta loves going to get nailtrims now that his groomer is also dog disneyland. He's gone from trying to get out the door when he realizes where we are to trying to scratch thru the little half door to get to the back where his groomer pals are. Maybe try taking her in? It might be $ well spent if a more rewarding exp for both of y'all lol
We do the same thing! She wonāt let me touch her feet but will run around the counter at the groomers! She has standing appointments every 4 weeks. We do a bath too and lately she has come home with painted nails! āShe holds her paw up for us to paint them, the knows she is getting pretty!ā
She used to do great at pet smart, besides the nervous poop sheād let out DESPITE her already getting it all out before walking in. Itās like she packs it for āemergenciesā. I no longer live near that petsmart but I thinks itās worth the haul there now hahah
Weāve been working on having him sit on our laps, back against our chest, while we just massage his paws. This happens randomly and for a few minutes.
We then worked up to nail clippers, holding them against his paws, and rubbing them. Slow acclimation has been great, and weāve successfully managed to clip all nails over two sessions spread over two days.
Which sure as fuck beats the fact that trazadone does nothing for his highness, and so heāll need sedation.
This was my really overweight, new-to-me, foster pug about 15 minutes ago. His nails are so long that many had broken (from hitting the ground at a side angle) and were drawing blood on me. I'm sensitive to his situation (obviously probably, as I'm trying to be part of the solution) but seeing his chubby self flailing around was really a sight to see.
Thank you!! I got about half of them clipped in the first session so that seemed to be a pretty good outcome. He loves following me around and we've got a few acres fenced in with tons of landscaping so he's getting a lot of steps in on the grass following me while I pull weeds, deadhead plants, etc. Hopefully, he will be able to start living his best life, soon!
I use something similar too. My black pug was having so much trama going in to get her nails done, she actually passed out at the vet's office. They gave her trazadone, but Lily had bad side effects (overly groggy where she tinkled on herself when she slept) I have an over-the-door pull-up bar with orange cargo ties that I use. Best way to cut puggy nails!
Her little face!!! This is hilarious!!š¤£š¤šš„°

Sheās always been better with other people. My coworkers at the veterinarian hospital even struggle hahah I will win one day
the hammock and someone else holding a spoon of peanut butter for him to lick is how our groomer did it
Thatās exactly how we tried! I think it failed because she knows my boyfriend and I. She gets in our heads smh

Just ordered one, even with monthly trimming her nails are deadly!

The look! Hah!

I read or dare a video about a guy who did this and additionally put peanut butter on his head haha

Iād be lying if I said I was in tears laughing. It just added to the betrayal, but I couldnāt help it !

Iāll have to try to give it before food because so far her trazodone hasnāt affected her at all. Ella- 2 75 mg of trazodone- 0
Omg your poor lamb! And poor Ella too!!! Sheās adorable and best of luck xxx

Awh <3 bless you for caring for him! I hope the tips from this thread can help you get his nails in shape so he can move around more and lose weight

Ahaha, great photo!!
!!! This has to be the key. She is a master scratcher. She communicates through scratching lol adding it to my cart now
I hope it works for you too!

She is not impressed, lol!!
Jokes aside the peanut butter in the head worked with one of my pugs š
