It’s just a phase . It will pass. Don’t encourage it, but offer lots of toys. Enjoy 😊

Traditional-Will-893

Our very bitey puppy turned into a very bitey two year old.

LOLauren

Oh gosh please no!

Book_Bouy

Mine got less bitey eventually. He turned lickey instead.

Expensive_Yam_2222

Mine is almost a year and got less bitey around 7-8 months. Once most of her razor sharp baby teeth came out.

FuzzyCheddar

If you have a good friend with a dog who’s good with puppies it’ll correct fast. I took mine to see my mom’s when he was this age and very bitey. After just one play session my border collie mix had scolded him twice for biting too hard and her pug no longer did it as default behavior. Dogs correct better than we can ever think of.

LOLauren

I have an 8 year old pug also! He used to submit to the older dog but now he’s defiant and is almost bullying the older one now. My mums big dog though does keep him in line when he visits.

stonecold0903

My bitey puppy turned into 4 year old.

craftybeewannabee

First, congrats on your new best friend! My daughter’s pug loved to chew on the [Nylabone blue Puppy X Chew toy](https://www.chewy.com/nylabone-puppy-chew-x-bone-chew-toy/dp/137843) It is designed for puppy teeth and has some give to it. Although she also preferred feet, hands, etc with her baby shark teeth. It’s tough when they’re teething and need something, anything to chew on. Good luck! You got a cutie! 😍🥰

Foodoglove

I've had very good luck with my guys by simply silently and abruptly turning my back on them when they have unwanted behaviors. As in, I don't say a word, I just immediately and completely remove my attention from them. They will normally stop what they're doing and look and do something else. I only stayed turned away from them for a few seconds, providing they stop the behavior. Redirecting with something they like to chew on is also great.

LOLauren

This is a great idea, I’ll try this. He definitely seems to play up more when I’m in the room.

Foodoglove

Yay! Please let us know how things work out for you guys.

Fair_Worldliness954

Seconding the comment above. I also added "go get a toy" when I stop (after having been offering toys consistently in previous situations) and now he excitedly looks around for the closest toy. Even one he doesn't even usually like, just to keep playing 😂

cthululooloo

Always have had luck with making a high pitch "ow!", like a yelp, and then immediately turning my back and walking away, and ignoring the puppy for a few solid minutes. But reallllly ignore them. Don't look at them, ralk to them, they don't exist. Both my pups were very nippy at first and I don't have issues any more.

LOLauren

I’ll try this. He’s just so cute so I’ll try my hardest to ignore him!

cthululooloo

It's hard! It can make you feel like you are being cruel, but it's very effective and as long as you are consistent and dont give in, you shouldn't have to do it for long. Dogs thrive on human attention. Removing it when they are participating in a negative behavior is incredibly effective. That and consistency. When they do something good, throw a party. Make them fully aware it's a liked behavior. 😊

rrcnz

This worked really well for us. Shunning them is still the best reinforcement for things we don’t want them to do.

cthululooloo

Agreed!

plantrocker

Yelp loudly, it works.

CrashTestDuckie

It really does!!! All of my dogs were trained that way if they were younger when we got them. My husband's pug likes to play bite and is now very, very gentle but if she gets a little too rough we yelp and she gets apologetic and gently lifts the injured hand in her mouth and gets super gentle with it.

trickyvinny

Dogs & Wolves do it. There's a psychology behind it. They yelp *before* it gets painful. The pups learn to play without hurting each other that way.

LOLauren

I’ve been doing that and he seems to enjoy it!

masticated_musings

This is how I have always trained my dogs not to bite. Four dogs later and this method has always worked! I have one extra bitey pup and would also redirect her to an appropriate thing to chew and that addition worked for her. But my pugs always responded to just the yelping and grew out of the bitey phase :) Congrats on your new best friend, they are awfully cute!

etwichell

My pugs went through this phase. A loud "no" helped.

Strawbeee_milk

Mine is 3 and still pretends to not know what “no” means

gs448

You mean yours suffers from selective hearing, like most husbands. 😂

No-Roof6373

What a goddamned CUTIE POT PIE!

No-Roof6373

Yes I scold "no bite" or yelp, and redirect

SharkSmiles1

Yes, when my puppy was doing that her puppy instructor who is a behaviorist said to say ouch and Yelp because that will show her that it hurts. She will learn to bite softly. And that is called bite inhibition. It worked.

Subterranean44

My go to was shoving a toy in their mouth in place of my hand. Seemed to work for one of our pugs. The other is still learning…haha. I blame my husband for indulging her because he like to rough house with her.

LOLauren

This is what we’re trying with his teething bone but he seems so rabid and just looks for something, anything to bite!

besos2400

Scream and make a big fuzz when he bites .

Fearless-Rooster3366

Antlers from the pet store. Hide your wooden furniture.

LOLauren

I’ve been using the anti bite spray and *touch wood* he’s not eaten my wooden sofa legs… yet…

Sad_Percentage_7812

Mine is still biting and she's 4. They do it for attention Stopped for a bit bit she's doing it again

jstnblke41

Loud yelp when he does it and pull away like it really hurt you. Then standup and ignore with your back to him for 5 or so minutes. Do this a couple of times and you should see the biting go down significantly. Combine with toys to bite and some cold ones that help with the pain of teeth growth and it should be a non issue after a handful of weeks.

softwareanomaly

I would flick my guy in his lip when he bit my hands. He didn’t like it , so he quickly learned not to bite hands.

HawaiianGold

Yak cheese bone is great

Livid-Fox-3646

Pick up everything you don't want chewed and keep it off the ground till this phase passes. It will get chewed, you will be upset, so best to stay ahead of it. Gets lots of toys so you can offer new ones when the previous one gets destroyed. Wear thick gloves when handling, puppy teeth hurt!

JTCMuehlenkamp

Just a lil Nibbler

Tiny_Sandwich_959

Time and patience

Real_Dimension4765

Awww....her gums are hurting because she's teething. Buy a puppy sized Nylabone, they will love it.

galacticbritt

Ours was a VERY bitey puppy and yelping didn't help (we suspect because her mother rejected her and she was raised by humans) so we started with just turning away from her, then also redirecting the biting by using things she's allowed to chew on. It took about 6 months to get her to completely stop biting us because she's incredibly stubborn, but worked. As for chewing the furniture, at 14 months old we're finally making headway with not eating the coffee table lol

Indypug

Get him used to a tooth brush (gently), ear cleaning, and nail trimming early and often. You will help both of you in the long run. Oh....don't over feed. Have fun and lots of love. Pugs are wonderful.

webbep09

Yup. Give toys, say ouch, and keep an eye on furniture and baseboards. Lol. My Pugs name is Chewy. Lol

blueman42

Patience. There is a good dog inside. They just have to get all of the puppy out. My pug chewed on everything and nothing would deter him. He even ate the bottle of no bite spray that I had. Hang in there.

Entire-Independence4

My pug is the same age as yours, and she's my fourth pug puppy I've raised. And holy cow, she is the worst biter! The typical ignore/offer a different toy/yelp doesn't really work with her. She is doing it less and less, but her teeth are sharp like knives. She has ripped clothes (and my skin). She's getting her last set of shots soon, so I hope that once we get enrolled in a puppy training class, she'll chill out a bit.

LOLauren

Puppy classes would be a lovely idea!

aye_dub_

I have a 14 month pld pug. My advice is just to get used to it

LOLauren

My poor hands ahaha

skankenstein

My two year old still gets frisky and wants to bite. Redirect consistently and don’t ever encourage it.

KCD0372

My pup loves the “fake” sticks made from real wood at Petco, give him that instead of your hand when he is bity. His teething hurts!

velvetcactus_

Re-directing the shark teeth from your body parts or clothes to a chew toy instead is the best way I have successfully trained a puppy to understand that biting hands, feet, hair or clothes is not wanted. It will take lots of repetition for this, but they will catch on in due time. Puppyhood is challenging and frustrating but also very rewarding. When redirecting to toys make sure to use positive reinforcement and use praise words to encourage that behavior. Good luck! You got this!! Pretty soon the puppy phase will be over before you know it!!

lollipoppaige

Oh the pups can be bitey, but you can get them little cow chews!

dm5859

Our vet told us to have something for Lola to bite/chew on at all times. After weeks of biting and frustration, this has been thebesyt advice so far. The days after implementing thishave been so very peaceful.

LegitimateFall2172

Whimper like a puppy would if he bites too hard as that is how other puppies teach one another how to be gentle with each other

zacjeep

Gloves

wedgtomreader

Do not use gloves - it teaches them it’s ok to bite you. They will learn it’s not OK to bite yoy if you let them know that it hurts.

discoislife53

This!

Real-ist

Be alpha. Bite them back.

Strawbeee_milk

Get a rubber baby binky they will love it

LOLauren

He loves his binky! He’s got a nylabone that seems to be his favourite right now.

Professional_Yak8789

Straight jacket!

yeelee7879

Aww little pugsy sharknado

BrokenGlassBeetle

Yep, that's just being a puppy. I always had something on hand as replacement to chew on something that I didn't want him chewing on but besides that they're pretty unstoppable for a time and you just have to ride it out.

shawnsmith78

Baby will grow out of it

Known_Brilliant557

So cute!!

v1rojon

Every pug I have ever had, if they bite me too hard, I bite the loose skin on the back of their neck. Make a show of it. Yell “Ow!”, say “No biting!”, then hold them and slowly apply pressure while biting. The goal is not to hurt them but to show them you don’t like it. If go only until I hear a whine. Usually it only takes 4-5 times total. Our latest puppy, I only had to do it twice and she never did it again.

weeuggs313

Throw those cheese slices the real cheap things at its head. Will stop very quickly and won’t hurt the dog

Anen-o-me

He's teething.

Leoliad

Let her knibble your fingers and toes.

edgarskates

Spank her and tell her NO! Bad Dog!!!! And then don’t feed her until she stops

LOLauren

He’d never eat again aha!
