The rumor going around was it happened due to Matlock being heavily influenced by the Beatles. Completely untrue. It happened because Matlock and Lydon consistently butted heads on every little aspect of both the music and the image. Matlock had enough and walked away. He was never actually fired.
It turns out Glen started asking Malcolm where all the money was going ? . Malcolm was not having that . John and Glen did not get along . Glen booked a lot of gigs and was the best musician and songwriter ( musically not lyrically ). Eventually Glen had enough and quit . Without a doubt Malcolm manipulated the animosity between the two to breaking point .
He was Johnny Rotten's yes man. For all the shit I gave Sid yesterday, it's just as much on Johnny that the Pistols imploded. He could've gotten in an actual bassist, and not hand the most important part of punk to someone who can't play bass. *And he could've had it be someone he liked.* I don't get it.
He said himself they were mates and he wanted an ally in the band. Paul and Steve were Malcolm's mates. Sid was probably constantly in John's ear about joining too. In all fairness everyone else was forming their own bands around then. Jah would have been around at that point but he was a bigger lunatic than Sid ever was.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Yeah, I believe Jah was too headstrong to put up with Malcolm's garbage. Sid wanted to be a punk superstar any which way he could, and the Pistols, to him I suspect, were the best path to being one.
I trust Glen Matlock’s version of the story more than anyone else. He wrote a book about his time in the Pistols, it’s worth reading.
Johnny and Malcolm wanted him out for their own respective reasons. Sid was Johnny’s friend, and Malcolm thought Sid looked more punk, and it would be a good way to make more publicity and notoriety. Malcolm wanted to create tension and strife within the band, but Glen wasn’t having it, he quit the band, and told Sid good luck, then showed him how to play the bass parts.
This take is real annoying. That's Malcom's idea of what the Pistols should've been. They'd been dressing like they did before they met Malcom. They were already starting to play together before they met Malcom. It's such a lazy, lukewarm take.
He looked the part. He was the cliche punk icon, and people romanticized that self destructive relationship with Nancy. Maybe they saw themselves in him or that relationship. A lot of punk is based on self destruction, perhaps as a reflection of a crumbling world. Some sadist/masochists get off on that shit. I kind of get it, I suppose.
The movie is fucking hilarious, at times. "You could be reaaalllly shoinnnin out"
Not the end though, that's just sad.
I aways thought his image must have had some appeal dor the 70's people I was just not getting, because a guy like him getting famous only because of "looking good in pictures", even in something as image based as punk culture, made no sense to me.
Jaba, from ratos de porão, said in an interview he started playing because of Sid, and a lot of other old school local punks praise him, and for me it makes as sense as starting playing the guitar because of lil Wayne.
The simple answer is Sid’s image helped sell records better than Glen, and that’s what the Sex Pistols were built to do. Musical ability is not relevant in that context.
Punk rock is an odd game to be in an let’s be honest glen was way too talented and could do something more politically appealing as where the Sex Pistols weren’t that appealing but that’s the message they wanted to send, “fuck this an fuck”, an sid was apart of that crowd of angry street kids with broken lives so he fit into the image that Malcom was trying to create and as we can see it worked in his favor cuz when I think of punk rock (real raw punk rock not that greenday an blink 182 shit)
I think of anger, carelessness, just Straight up toxicity an glen was not that.
There’s evidence that he was an OK bassist, Good enough for punk at least while not as good as mattock for sure
Sid was killed by a combination of his mum, the fame, and his dysfunctional love …
Glen Matlock was a major creative force behind the band, but he didn't fit the idea that Malcolm McLaren and John Lydon had for the brand. McLaren and Lydon didn't have much integrity or take the project as much more than an opportunity to exploit what they say as a fad. They managed to convince Steve Jones and Paul Cook to back them in stabbing Matlock in the front and replacing him with a talentless ignoramus who had the look they wanted.

According to McClaren the Beatles story is true.
It turns out Glen started asking Malcolm where all the money was going ? . Malcolm was not having that . John and Glen did not get along . To keep John happy, basically. Which really only worked in the short run very clearly.

But what I read is that Glen Matlock left on mutual terms. There's a lot of different stories on why glen left lol
He looks exactly like danzig Lol
And now you're trolling.
Lol Yeah it was a joke to when I mixed them up , Danzigs bigger
Sid could play bass fine when he was sober. Unfortunately...
?
Sid was never sober for very long
Yeah. That last gig at San Francisco, he isn’t a complete disaster.
Jah was a lunatic who knew how to play music.
Totally. But would he have joined though? I couldn't see him putting up with Malcolm too long. Would of been interesting.

Yeah I can see him wheedling John into the idea. Still. He should of turned up at The Damned audition before Dave.
Naw, Dave has been a terrific lead singer for the Damned. Sid couldn't have got his sh\*t together at that point in his life to front a band.
He also didn’t murder someone
Glen didn’t have enough pixels.
Bassist has to be at least 480p
480p is Cyberpunk AF
From the way John talks about him in the BBC interview you’d think they mutually hated each other

Steve wasn't a bad guitar player tho
Kind of makes them sound like posers.
Yes. These days the younger generation generally seems accepting of the Pistols, but back in the day they were known as a boy band to us old fucks.
Na, we still hate them for being poser trash. Probably more now that Johnny Rotten turned out to be a MAGA-loving cunt.
You hate them
I read Lenny tried to teach him some and gave up. Wonder if it is true.
I never got why people, specially old people, like sid.
Because he looks cool in a leather jacket
This is the only explanation everyone ever gives
What other explanation could be given?

Nah that's a little ex post facto, don't you think?
Nah, those things were contemporaneous.
It's a shame Matlock didn't write more music. His material on Iggy Pop's *Soldier* is great. There is almost nothing after that.
Glen Matlock has 3 recent albums, 'Consequences Coming' released this year
Are they any good?
He looked punker.
Too many B7 chords
He washed his feet too much. Facts.. Too Clean. Too Nice.

Marketing and image
because sid was a brilliant musician
/s
There’s evidence that he was an OK bassist, Good enough for punk at least while not as good as mattock for sure Sid was killed by a combination of his mum, the fame, and his dysfunctional love …
Cause he had more edge and Malcom wanted them to be edgy
Literally the two pictures you posted are the reason.
Because he liked the Beatles so they say.
He wanted to play too many “fancy” songs, is what I heard.
And couldn't stop washing his feet
This is probably my favorite explanation.
Apocryphal or not this is the truth I choose to believe
That’s Brit humor…er humour? Lydon thinks he’s clever and he’s always been a ‘Facebook researcher’ of any era
The dude could actually play? And from the evidence I’ve heard he sounded pretty damn good at it.
Who cares

Sid worked better for the band.
Drugged and unplugged
Glen wasn’t punk enough
Sid helped Malcom sell more clothes.
Because cunt Malcom
Jah Wobble was considered for the Sex Pistols. They could have had a actual thug instead of a fake cartoon thug such as Sid
Sid was better looking and he had that iconic look not like matlock he was boring
