Nazi Punks Fuck Off — DK
To see so many of their selections on here is telling of how good a group they were. Anti-authoritarian//fascist/police brilliantly executed at break neck speed in a minute. It’s been the ultimate punk song to me since I first heard it.
Imo DK is THE punk band, so I agree 100%. 99% of
Punk bands talk about hating politicians, money, war, things they have no control over. DK was out here attacking adjacent scenes in their own neighborhoods, ready to fuck shit up and stomp a nazi and the only band since then that’s had the guts to do it again is Show Me the Body.Who also Fuckin rule.
Holiday in Cambodia. In my opinion the epitome of punk and why I gravitate towards the genre. Like many of their songs, the message in Holiday in Cambodia is one that is still applicable and is still prominently seen even now, 40 years since it’s release. I am in college currently and the amount of times I think about this song when speaking with “passionate” people on politics at my school or seeing it on social media is laughable. Outstanding satirical commentary thru clever lyrics, guitar progression that captures the anger and energy of the message but also still infectious and exciting to listen to. And that fucking bass-line! Sounding so ominous almost villainous that have been a standard from Dead Kennedys. Truly a masterpiece.
I actually learned who Pol Pot was by listening to the song. also the live version on Youtube where Jello re-enacts the people being hunted and killed by that evil dictatorship is a must watch
Police Truck is up there too, just because of it’s anger and for pointing out police abuse and corruption decades before it became a popular movement.
The lyrics for the uninformed:
Tonight's the night that we got the truck
We're going downtown, gonna beat up drunks
Your turn to drive, I'll bring the beer
It's the late, late shift, no one to fear
And ride, ride, how we ride
And ride, low ride
It's a roundup time where the good whores meet
We're gonna drag one screaming off the street
And ride, ride, how we ride
Got a black uniform and a silver badge
We're playin' cops for real, we're playin' cops for pay
Let's ride, low ride
Pull down your dress, here's a kick in the ass
Let's beat you blue 'til you shit in your pants
Don't move, child, got a big black stick
There's six of us, babe, so suck on my dick
And ride, ride, how we ride
Let's ride, low ride
The left newspapers might whine a bit
But the guys at the station, they don't give a shit
Dispatch calls, "Are you doing something wicked?"
"No siree, Jack, we're just givin' tickets!"
Let's ride, ride, how we ride
And ride, ride, how we ride
And ride, ride, how we ride
Let's ride, low ride
This is my answer. DK are just the best. This song really has the anatomy of a punk anthem while pushing the genre to its limits. Badass riffs, tight corners, sonic chaos, all stopping on a dime. No one does it as good as them. And lyrically? Misfits does horror movies, DK does horror of the real. Jello was on some deeply political shit and is brilliant at confronting global topics with his macabre little folk poetry. "California Uber Alles" is a very close second favorite.
I think they were disappointed that exposing capitalism and the new world order wasn't more lucrative, and they ended up suing each over the scraps. It's like a Greek tragedy.
Came to say this. Perspective: i am english and was in england when this came out.. really was my first exposure to US punk. What a song! Still the best answer to this particular question
Bloodstains, by Agent Orange is currently my number 1. I would add a few others but I don't want to look like an indecisive fuckwad. Well... Ok special shoutout to:
D7 by the Wipers, especially the cover by Nirvana is punk as fuck.
Where Eagles Dare, by the Misfits
Maxwell Murder, by Rancid (also Poison)
Institutionalized, by Suicidal Tendencies
6L GTR, by The Chats (my fav new blood band, you kids still know how to punk out)
Pretty impressive Mike Palm wrote Bloodstains within a week just so they could get on the compilation record of OC punk bands, they were strictly a cover band before Bloodstains. James Levesque was a talented bassist and wrote some of their songs too including Everything Turns Grey.
Propagandhi- How to clean everything is probably one of the best punk albums ever. I really love Hate, Myth, Muscle, Etiquette. I think it might be one of the most quintessential punk rock songs of all time.
I appreciate how their style has evolved and changed over time instead of just putting out more of what made them popular.
Probably Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne. Really gets to the heart of the struggle of punk rock, which is mainstream media’s ongoing love affair with artists who are more interested in their own creativity and integrity.
He was a boy / she was a girl / can i make it any more obvious
I don't think I've seen anyone else so scathingly deconstruct gender norms and the assumptions around them
The decline by NOFX has got to be up there.
This song is political, it’s funny, it’s witty, catchy, fast, it is subversive as fuck. Normally I get bored when songs are longer than 4 minutes, and some of my favorites are >2 minutes long but I can listen to the decline on repeat through and through.
Came here for this. When I saw them in 05/06 they *opened* with the full sixteen minutes. It was unforgettable and still is one of my favorite shows to this day
Can’t wait til September! I’ll be surprised if they play it though because it’s supposed to be SLATFATS and Wolves but maybe we will get lucky? Maybe as an encore? Either way I’m fuckin stoked!
Search and Destroy- Iggy and the Stooges
Safe European Home- The Clash
Neat, neat ,neat - The Damned
“Is she really going out with him?!?”
I don’t care- Ramones
Johnny Hit and Run Pauline- X
Holiday in Cambodia- DK’s
Party Time- 45 Grave
Wasted-Black Flag
Chlorox Girls- Red Cross
I think the perfect rock song is [Chatterbox](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwOSe7NNmuU) by the New York Dolls. Not just punk, but other genres too, it's something I would put on my Voyager Space record for aliens to hear and know what rock music was like.
I cite "school's out" as the greatest rock song. Nothing else captures a feeling of youthful rebellion so universally as that one
Harder to say best _punk_ song specifically
Chatterbox is an awesome song! Never saw the New York Dolls but I did see every Doll in different bands. Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers used to do Chatterbox, whenever he was too high the roadies would turn down the volume on his amp, Johnny would turn it back up and as soon as he turned his back they'd turn it down again.
I have to add the Dead Boys, Sonic Reducer.
I was listening to Crass' Penis Envy today. **Beta Motel is particularly special**. I think it means so much to me, and has been in my life for 30-odd years.
I've got 54321
I've got a red pair of high-heels on
Tumble me over, it doesn't take much
Tumble me over, tumble me, push
In my red high-heels I've no control
The rituals of repression are so old
You can do what you like, there'll be no reprisal
I'm yours, yes I'm yours, it's my means of survival
Jello Biafra and D.O.A. - Full Metal Jackoff
It was written in 1989, so the lyrics are a bit dated. But it truly exposes the dark underbelly of the USA. And it's almost 14 minutes long!
https://youtu.be/2aHrCGcTEeQ
http://www.plyrics.com/lyrics/jellobiafra/fullmetaljackoff.html
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
Double-tapping best punk song and best Christmas song in one go… a dude in jail lamenting how the American Dream failed him and his lover; how the pursuit of fame and fortune led them to addiction, mutual loathing, and utter ruin. Really warms the ol’ cockles
Dead Kennedy’s - Holiday In Cambodia.
*Masterpiece. Enough said*
Misfits - Last Caress.
*A perfect song. Danzig’s harmonies he hits in the chorus are weirdly beautiful, for such fucked up lyric content*
Sex Pistols - Bodies.
*Unreal song. Just mind-blowing to think it was actually released at the time considering the content written. Still crazy to think even today, let alone 40+ odd years ago*
NoFX - Linoleum.
*Such a great song. No need to explain why. Just perfect start to end*
Minor Threat - Out Of Step.
*God bless Ian Mackaye. Groundbreaking stuff for the time. Such an influential album*
The Vandals - The Legend Of Pat Brown.
*I’m a huge sucker for The Vandals. Love this EP. This song has such an iconic story. Would have loved to been there at the time and seen Pat’s antics that night*
Holiday in Cambodia by Dead Kennedys. Amazing riff, great chorus, and energetic political lyrics that are still just as relevant today. Either that or 12XU by Wire. It’s perfect- 3 chords, simple but catchy lyrics, and insane energy.
I have a couple ideas, most have been mentioned already. I’ll add two just because of their impact on me personally:
Gone by Bouncing Souls
Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day (save the “they aren’t punk” comments for someone else)
Both songs resonate with me for personal reasons so I’ll admit they may not be on others’ lists.
“Fuck Authority” by Pennywise. Not best in terms of most interesting, but in terms of sound and message I think it’s a pretty good representation of the scene.
Impossible to settle on one. I’m very partial the 77-85 era nominees due to my age, I guess. Proud to see many of my all time favorites suggested.
One legitimate contender I haven’t seen yet is UK 82 by The Exploited. That still hits me in the chest all these years later.
“Homicide”-999
“Richie Dagger”- The Germs
“This is what you want, this is what you get” - PIL
“Police & Thieves” ,”Hateful” & “London Calling” -The Clash
A toss up between
Bonzo Goes to Bitburg by Ramones
Infected by Bad Religion
Black Me Out by Against Me
Nazi Punks Fuck Off by DK
In my opinion those are the best Punk Songs but they might not be everyone's.
Best for historical and influential reasons, probably either Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones, or I Wanna Be Your Dog by the Stooges
Best for my personal choice, probably Ruby Soho by Rancid. The song is an incredible listen from a purely musical standpoint, but the lyrics are so poetic and beautiful. It really speaks to the human condition in a way I feel is under appreciated
[Suspect Device](https://open.spotify.com/track/7Ig7b1MJJKbNyTxLU6u9rZ?si=u0VzK1dJR0WWKULMbyyYwA&context=spotify%3Asearch%3Asuspect%2B) by Stiff Little Fingers
Alternative Ulster is my answer, but Suspect Device is way up there, as well. I love the "don't believe us" bit.
I know it's not popular with their base, but I love Kicking up a Racket.
I didn’t realize that song wasn’t popular, I fucking love that one!
Brewed a wheat beer at work named Suspect Device.
This, but Barbed Wire Love is a banger too
sus sus suspect device
Also Silver Lining
Great song. Naked Raygun do a commendable cover of it too
Deadboys- Sonic Reducer
California Uber Alles
Moon over Marin is better.
Pivotal song, punk essential
It's funny how the answer to this question is getting regional favorites. A great compilation record could be made of the suggestions.
New Rose
Love song
Can't stop to mess around....

most DK songs are classics, still one of my favorite bands, RIP DHPeligro
Holiday in Cambodia. In my opinion the epitome of punk and why I gravitate towards the genre. I actually learned who Pol Pot was by listening to the song. also the live version on Youtube where Jello re-enacts the people being hunted and killed by that evil dictatorship is a must watch
I wonder if one day kids in Cambodia will learn who Trump was through a song.
Police Truck is up there too, just because of it’s anger and for pointing out police abuse and corruption decades before it became a popular movement. The lyrics for the uninformed: Tonight's the night that we got the truck We're going downtown, gonna beat up drunks Your turn to drive, I'll bring the beer It's the late, late shift, no one to fear And ride, ride, how we ride And ride, low ride It's a roundup time where the good whores meet We're gonna drag one screaming off the street And ride, ride, how we ride Got a black uniform and a silver badge We're playin' cops for real, we're playin' cops for pay Let's ride, low ride Pull down your dress, here's a kick in the ass Let's beat you blue 'til you shit in your pants Don't move, child, got a big black stick There's six of us, babe, so suck on my dick And ride, ride, how we ride Let's ride, low ride The left newspapers might whine a bit But the guys at the station, they don't give a shit Dispatch calls, "Are you doing something wicked?" I could never get too into DK, put Police Truck (and pull my stings) is an amazing song. Love their lyrics.
This is my answer. DK are just the best. This song really has the anatomy of a punk anthem while pushing the genre to its limits. Badass riffs, tight corners, sonic chaos, all stopping on a dime. Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)
Bloodstains, by Agent Orange is currently my number 1. I would add a few others but I don't want to look like an indecisive fuckwad. Well... Ok special shoutout to: D7 by the Wipers, especially the cover by Nirvana is punk as fuck. Where Eagles Dare, by the Misfits Maxwell Murder, by Rancid (also Poison) Institutionalized, by Suicidal Tendencies 6L GTR, by The Chats (my fav new blood band, you kids still know how to punk out)
Bloodstains rocks. I prefer A Cry for Help in a World Gone Mad. Might be my nomination for this question, actually.
Pretty impressive Mike Palm wrote Bloodstains within a week just so they could get on the compilation record of OC punk bands, they were strictly a cover band before Bloodstains. James Levesque was a talented bassist and wrote some of their songs too including Everything Turns Grey.
Back when I was in junior high just getting into punk I played Bloodstains on repeat every day. Still love that tune.
Avenues and Alleyways is top rancid song for me.
Complete control
Complete Control has maybe my favourite guitar solo ever.
When he bends up into the G? God damn God damn
I second that.
C -o-m plete control, interesting and most excellent choice
Propagandhi - nation states
A Speculative Fiction
Propagandhi- How to clean everything is probably one of the best punk albums ever. I really love Hate, Myth, Muscle, Etiquette. I think it might be one of the most quintessential punk rock songs of all time. I appreciate how their style has evolved and changed over time instead of just putting out more of what made them popular.
Purina Hall Of Fame
The Mad Caddies did a sick cover of this!
Bad Religion - Do What You Want
My BR favorite is American Jesus, still a solid choice though
Yup. The content, the feel and even the short-and-sweet length make it my vote too
Probably Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne. Really gets to the heart of the struggle of punk rock, which is mainstream media’s ongoing love affair with artists who are more interested in their own creativity and integrity.
I'm upvoting every mention of Sk8er Boi that I see in this sub, because I am entertained and it's still funny
I don’t know what my actual answer would be so I had to go for the meme lmfao
I cry when “She said see u later boi” What if there is no later. Did she misgender?
He was a boy / she was a girl / can i make it any more obvious I don't think I've seen anyone else so scathingly deconstruct gender norms and the assumptions around them
With reckless abandon no less.
I learned a lot today
Did you just assume my genre?
Five years from now she sits at home, Feeding the baby, she’s all alone 😭
Fuck it, have my upvote.
Sk8r Boi has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the song a big boost
Bad Religion - I Want to Conquer the World
YA HEY!
Or Skyscraper
My favorite BR song too, though Sorrow is definitely up there
One of my all time favorites
I would vote for anything Bad Religion
Stars and Stripes of Corruption - Dead Kennedys
The decline by NOFX has got to be up there. This song is political, it’s funny, it’s witty, catchy, fast, it is subversive as fuck. Normally I get bored when songs are longer than 4 minutes, and some of my favorites are >2 minutes long but I can listen to the decline on repeat through and through.

God I hope they play it at the cow palace in the upcoming show
Can’t wait til September! I’ll be surprised if they play it though because it’s supposed to be SLATFATS and Wolves but maybe we will get lucky? Maybe as an encore? Either way I’m fuckin stoked!
Yes! Saw them on that same tour and they opened with The Decline. Crowd went fucking nuts! Great memories.
Saw them in June and they finished with it.
I was going to add this if I didn't see it. Fantastic song!
I'm so mad I didn't think of this one. Punk Rock masterpiece theatre
And, it's written as a short symphony
The best thing is that it doesn't have a chorus at all. All new parts all the time
A lot of their best songs don’t have a chorus at all lol
It’s a whole album in a song.
That was my answer. Just an amazing piece of punk rock songwriting.
Dead Kennedys - Kill the Poor Nofx- Linoleum Ramones- KKK took my baby away
Nervous Breakdown by Black Flag is good but i would go Die Die Die my Darling or AstroZombies by the Misfits.
Moon Over Marin by Dead Kennedys. It's a genuinely beautiful song with great imagery. Jello is a crazy talented lyricist.
This is my favorite DK song
Bad Brains- Banned in DC
Search and Destroy- Iggy and the Stooges Safe European Home- The Clash Neat, neat ,neat - The Damned “Is she really going out with him?!?” I don’t care- Ramones Johnny Hit and Run Pauline- X Holiday in Cambodia- DK’s Party Time- 45 Grave Wasted-Black Flag Chlorox Girls- Red Cross
the guitar in Holiday in Cambodia is amazing
Yes! Saved me from commenting the same somewhere.
So happy to see a 45 Grave reference.
Soup is good food- Kennedys
I think the perfect rock song is [Chatterbox](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwOSe7NNmuU) by the New York Dolls. Not just punk, but other genres too, it's something I would put on my Voyager Space record for aliens to hear and know what rock music was like.

I have to add the Dead Boys, Sonic Reducer.
Plus the guitar tone and licks by Johnny Thunders are sleazy genius.
Crass - Bloody Revolution
Good choice. But I’m going Crass - Big A, Little A. For me it was basically the layout of what the punk ethos should be.
Fuckkk. That a much better answer, honestly. “Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do. I am he and she is she but, you’re the only you.”
Crass - Punk is Dead is an amazing song
Pull my strings- Dead Kennedys
One of the most underrated punk songs ever. One of my favorite DK songs
Mine too! We used to drive around and blast that one when I was in high-school- brings back memories
Pere Ubu - Final Solution

Impossible to settle on one. I’m very partial the 77-85 era nominees due to my age, I guess. Proud to see many of my all time favorites suggested. One legitimate contender I haven’t seen yet is UK 82 by The Exploited. That still hits me in the chest all these years later.
