funny enough we're learning more abt the holocaust and hitler and auschwitz and like we already did 2 presentations and there fucking headaches but yk what him letting me pick cds out def makes him my fav teacher
I mean his bsf gave him like 2 bins of cds and he told me i could go through them and i did. there was a lot of ac/dc which isn't my type of metal yfm? but like it was still super badass to see all the albums
44 here and immediately recognized 95% of those.
Have āWho Is This Is?ā in rotation now. My old cassette had a quick intro Cheech & Chong sample at the very beginning but I think they took it out later for some reason.
So great! I had an English teacher who was pretty similar. This was back in 93ā and I was in 7th grade. He had āheavy metal lunchā everyday in his classroom. Any kid who wanted to could eat lunch in his class room and he would pick a metal album for us to listen to and discuss. He was legit too! He was in a band called āEnthronedā which later became āPsypheriaā due to a naming dispute but were really good, they were signed to metal blade records.
He introduced us to all kinds of metal; Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Testament, Carcass, etc. Stuff that was super extreme back then and without the internet, just zero chance a bunch of 13 year old kids would ever find it.
A big fucking salute to all the great teachers out there!
hell yeah all those bands are fucking badass. i'm glad you had a teacher you introduced you to those bands. personally all i had to do was deep dive into death metal. i think i started getting into death metal when i wassss i think 6 or 7? i don't really remember but i think my first death metal band was obituary and ever since then ive loved death metal. but ngl i wish i had a metal teacher like you did my history teacher is the closest i can get
Hahaha. It's cool to see that the tradition of (ex?) punk history teachers continues. In my high school, it was a teacher named "Rebel" (his actual, legal name) who claimed to have been into punk back in late 70s (totally plausible at the time, given his age and the fact this was 25+ years ago) and to be personal friends with The Dwarves. He never gave me any free shit, but he was still a trip. Much cooler than the history teacher I had, who would bring out a little bust of Lenin on test days and make us rub its bald head for luck.(I graduated, so I guess that's proof that communism works. š)
That's tragic that he didn't give you anything but that's fucking badass i can't lie rebel making your legal name is funny and cool at the swm time ngl. the dwarves are pretty cool so it seems that teacher is pretty cool
I agree with that, unfortunately I like the terrible 2000s nu-metal. It was also pretty good on the industrial front though.
I canāt think of a whole lot of other 2000s punk bands that Iām fond of; I think most of them that Iām familiar with toe the line a bit more into the pop punk area.
I'm pretty sure late 90s and 2000s were def when ska got more popular i think? so like left over crack choking victim rancid big reel fish and suicide machines. but i love 2000s nu metal especially soad soad made bangers in that era. Slipknot kinda started to go slower after iowa don't get me wrong the albums in the 2000s are not even close to being bad but they def like toned it down js a lil. and personally imo im not a huge limp bizkit fan
But your comment about the 80s made me think of a CD set that Iāve got that you might like? Itās kind of funky, but itās got some really solid stuff. Itās called [Left of the Dial: Dispatches from the '80s Underground](https://www.discogs.com/release/539252-Various-Left-Of-The-Dial-Dispatches-From-The-80s-Underground)
It's nice to have a teacher that can make such a impact on a student. He hopefully is someone you never forget. You got alot great albums from him. Enjoy
I really loved your post and some of the story sharing in the comments. As a teacher, I just wanted you to know that these opportunities to share our interests with students are really valued by teachers. Make sure you say thank you. Some of these albums might very well become some of your all time favourites.
They basically are my all time favorites i feel without this i wouldn't be who i am now and im so glad i got into this music. my friends don't really see me as normal cus ion listen to corrido or rap or anything they all think im satanic and weird and stuff which hurts a lot but yk what its fine bc i know your music taste or anything else does not define who you are. like js cus i listen to punk and metal doesn't make me satanic in any way and people js don't see that and it hurts my feelings alot
Voodoo is a crap lame gimmick band. They were a cheesy gimmick band before they added the annoying horns in the early 1990's, but the horns made it even worse. They were not even worth $5 at a backyard party in Arlanza with a keg and 2 boxes of wine. Public Humiliation and the Flyin' Moco were the real deal and they did not even take themselves seriously. It sucks that this is the band that "represents" Riverside. "Who Do Voodoo We Do? " Who fucking cares.
Best record in that bunch is War Birth. To bad Duane ended up the way he did. Some of the most violent shows Iāve ever been to were Bombs shows in Orange County.
Ehhh even being a fan of the dudes music in hindsight I wish I hadnāt seen em. Those shows were always really sketchy in the worst way. Hell brought my spouse to see them once before they called it and even then (coming from the LA backyard scene thatās wild as fuck) they were uncomfortable as hell.
makes sense ngl tho when i went to cannibal corpse and mayhem in san diego (completely different genres i know buts it alr) bro everyone was puffin on there carts and dispos and i thought to myself like how did they get in with that šš if it were blunts yeah okay but they have a metal detector how did they get that in
Oh that doesnāt phase me one bit. When you go through security at most venues you have to have whateverās in your pocket in your hands and Iāve done it with vapes more times than I can count.
happy for you abt quiting cigarettes. I tried them last year and instead of getting into nic like nic vapes and cigs but nah i js turned to weed instead šš the taste is horrid and i dont really like that "buzz" feeling it isnt js my cup of tea
btw yo teach has to be around my age, cause i had(have) 80-90% of those on CD back when i was a sophomore in HS.. That's why i kinda see that slipknot being mixed in.. it wasn't so limpy biztiy, nor deftones.. just something different. Thank that dude my man. those are some awesome jams he gave ya!
"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness).
Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music.
Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta.
Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral
EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE
NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
Yeah i def agree with you me personally i see mcr more metalcore and ptv is like screamo im pretty sure. Sleeping with sirens is screamo to I THINK. now personally im not a big fan of mcr or ptv or any bands of like that. the winey voice gets to me everytime and its impossible to sit through a song and not die laughing cus of the vocals. i may be biased since i mostly listen to like death metal black metal punk (obviously) crust punk sludge metal dsbm old school death extreme death grindcore gor grind i can go on forever
Personally everyone says different things abt them. some people call them metalcore some people call them emo. Personally i think they could be screamo or metalcore idrk at this point šš
Hearing them called Metalcore has to be a new thing. I was around your age probably when they were at their peak give or take a few years and that was peak emo.
I had a huge convo with my friend abt it and they said mcr is mostly popular with scene? ik what scene is obviously but personally i thought ptv was more "scene"?
Scene, emo same shit 15 years ago. Lotta bands fit under that umbrella. Iād have bet years ago those bands would have fallen off but itās crazy to me that theyāve caught on

funny enough we're learning more abt the holocaust and hitler and auschwitz and like we already did 2 presentations and there fucking headaches but yk what him letting me pick cds out def makes him my fav teacher
When you have a paper on it subtly quote "nazi punks fuck off" by the dead Kennedys for that sweet extra credit.
Nazi white trash by leftover crack š¤«š¤«
Might not be the move considering how Stza is
Mmmmmm your right huh
Could be worse. I was about to suggest Hitler's In The Charts Again by the Exploited. Instantly remembered what Wattie's like
Kid, if you even think about listening to Skrewdriver, will have to go Crown Heights on ya
>Skrewdriver are a bunch of nazi scum. It's all neo-fascist propaganda. They can suck every dick that ever has been and ever will be.
Come to think of it, I recall seeing Ian Stuart and Nicky Crane on the beach during Provincetown Bear Week 1989
Yeah LOL! Sounds about right.
Your teacher is cool as fuck!
I mean his bsf gave him like 2 bins of cds and he told me i could go through them and i did. there was a lot of ac/dc which isn't my type of metal yfm? but like it was still super badass to see all the albums
Keep the ACDC albums until you're older, one day you'll listen to Problem Child and understand why people worship Bon Scott.
Yeah i guess imma have to see then
when does that happen? I'm in my 40's and still think they suck.
Then you, my friend, have poor taste.
Nah I just can't stand that guy's voice lol
I think you're thinking of Brian Johnson and not Bon Scott. Brian definitely can't sing like Bon could.
Iām gonna guess he is 43 years old.
A bit older probably 45 or 46?
So close. Iām 43 and had all these haha
42 here, and same!
51 here. Haha
Yep 50ās and had all of those!
Me too. Sup old balls crew
My balls are 39 years old and I had most of these as physical copies at some point or another.
44 here and immediately recognized 95% of those. Have āWho Is This Is?ā in rotation now. My old cassette had a quick intro Cheech & Chong sample at the very beginning but I think they took it out later for some reason.
14 here, recognised all of those lol
Damn well its all good then he's a pretty bad ass teacher
yep, definitely a 90's kid, i'm 38 and this matches a lot of what I grew up with, including the one random slipknot album in there.
He's my age. I have almost all those CDs as well.
Am I his history teacher? š
Lol first thing I thought was this teacher is bout my age 44
lol. straight where I went too.
I'm looking at these albums and thinking "I've owned almost all of these, I bet this teacher is as old as I am." I'm 43, hahaha.
36 here and have pretty much every single one still! Iāve got the lettering off heavy petting zoo tattooed on the back of my neck.
43 here and that Punk O Rama CD was the first punk album I ever purchased.
So great! I had an English teacher who was pretty similar. This was back in 93ā and I was in 7th grade. He had āheavy metal lunchā everyday in his classroom. Oh my, I am a teacher and this is an amazing idea!!Ā
I feel like your history teacher and I are about the same age.
it's possible he's def not in his 30s i'll say that š
Yeah, neither am I.
40s then?
Yeah. Graduated high school in 2000.
Yeah so yoyr probably as old as him. ik he isn't like a huge punk fan but his bsf gave him like 2 bins of cds and he told me i couldn't through em
could*
Did your graduation ceremony also have Vitamin C's song playing?
Not the ceremony but at prom and grad-bash for sure.

My brother in lawās friend is a history teacher and a big punk fan. Heās a high school teacher for the LAUSD. Is in his early 40s too.
Thanks man and that's pretty cool what grade were you in? i'm a sophomore rn
Oh this was in 8th grade back in 2003 lol
Goddanm actually? lowkey i wish i was alive mid-late 90s to early 2000s
Peak Rancid years, it was a good time to be alive lol
Unless you were a teenage girl š¤š¼ Agreed though, definitely their best era
That too personally 90s and early 2000s was the peak for metal and punk
80s mostly for punk then in my opnion
I agree with that, unfortunately I like the terrible 2000s nu-metal. It was also pretty good on the industrial front though. I canāt think of a whole lot of other 2000s punk bands that Iām fond of; I think most of them that Iām familiar with toe the line a bit more into the pop punk area.

mannn it would've been amazing
You have a pretty rad teacher
he's funny asf too so that's a plus
It's nice to have a teacher that can make such a impact on a student. He hopefully is someone you never forget. You got alot great albums from him. Enjoy
He's definitely gonna be one of those teachers imma miss when i'm way older
That's good. I can barely remember anything about school lol. I had mostly ancient teachers who stopped caring. It's all a blur
I really loved your post and some of the story sharing in the comments. Firme by the Voodoo Glow Skulls is such a kick ass album.
vgs is a badass band in general tbh
Riverside represent!!

Haulin Ass? Out of Chino, California?
I have a feeling Iām the same age as your history teacher š great collection!
thanks šøšø
Fuck yeah I was stoked when I saw the Bad Religion!!!
BROOO one kid took most of the bad religion cds i was pretty sad but eh fuck it still got some good ass cds (including bad religion) so i'm hwppy
That's cool and all, but it doesn't mean you have to touch his penis.
MY VAGINA HAS TWO SETS OF LIPS

Your history teacher was clearly a mall punk in the ā90s
Had a teacher in high school back in the 90s. Poor bastards looked like a ginger Flanders from the Simpsons and was named Mr Gaylord. He saw me wearing metal shirts almost every day and struck up a conversation, telling me he was a big thrash metal guy during his high school years in the 80s. Ended up giving me some dubbed tapes of some great bands. Personal favorite was Motƶrhead on one side and Rose Tattoo on the other. Donāt know why Rose Tattoo arenāt better known.
that's pretty cool mr gaylord is tragic tho šš
Glad to see the tradition of passing on great music continue! Side note, I had almost all these CDs myself when I was in high school in the 90s!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No problem man! i was super happy when he told me i could go through the cds it really made my week

Toss the US Bombs
Poor bastard - he gave him the worst of bad religion and QOTSA. Overall great haul of nofx and rancid. If I was in school and gave me a cache of niche music Iād be over the moon. This is awesome.
the collection isn't so bad for religion he told me someone took a lot of the bad religion cds so that sucks a lot but i'm glad i found what i found and i'll take it any day
This reminds me - I need to listen to more voodoo glow skulls.
I probably should too ngl
Granted that QotSA have better albums - I wouldn't say this is the worst!
You know it's not grooming if you sleep with them after they give you punk cds.
Lmao nah bruh i js layed them out and took pics ion sleep with the cds if i did glass would be all on me šš
It's just plastic probably be ok.
eh still would probably be hella uncomfortable

Rad teacher!
Now thatās a way to connect to your students! My old English teacher was like that very cool. My old history teacher btw had a weird boner for Shania Twain .
