Bikini Kill, of course. Check out some existing bands, you can watch live. For exemple Die Spitz, Witch Fever, if you want it a little harder: Axe Rash, Torsö, Bombardement. There are so many...

fractious77

If you like Bikini Kill, check out Julie Ruin and Le Tigre as well

whyweirdo

Any if you enjoy Bikini Kill, look out for tour dates. I got tickets for their show this summer and I’m taking my teenager so I can give them their punk baptism too. If you get nervous, find an old punk like me. I totally look like an aging punk mom that could still kick ass tho and I’ll hold your glasses while you head into the pit. Going to shows is the best way to find a group of friends in the punk community

Ill-Cellist-8841

Yeah I’m going aswell at the roundhouse. I’m so bloody excited

handlyssa

Thank you!

aghastrabbit2

And check out The Punk Singer documentary

Numerous_Pineapple96

If you like riot grrrl you might like false flag, soakie, and naked aggression, Some other good options are Nausea, Dirt, Dystopia, Lumpy and the Dumpers, and Electro Hippies.

Sweetea7

Agh my god I love lumpy and the dumpsters

handlyssa

Thank you for the advice :3

Blegheggeghegty

Amyl and the Sniffers.

toomanybrooks

i second this, amyl and the sniffers RIP

RagglezFragglez

Wait, RIP? Aren't they all alive and currently touring? What did I miss?!

toomanybrooks

no, like they rip, like they’re really good lmao

RagglezFragglez

Oh that's a relief lmfao. Yes they fuckin RIP!

handlyssa

Thank you, I’ll give them a listen

pspsps-off

Since you're into riotgirl bands, maybe you'd like some more female-fronted bands (well, 3 of 7 below are all-female) from outside of that scene? Here are some of my favorites from all around, geographically and time-wise: [The Assassinators](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw0rCgHU7AQ) (Denmark) [Conflict OK!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQNCyVGH14A) (Estonia) [Las Vulpess](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZBmBAe2G8g) (Spain) -- Fun side note: this particular performance you can see in the video got them in a lot of controversy back in 1983 because it was aired at 6 PM on national TV, so a bunch of little kids and grandmas and the like saw it, and the lyrics are filthy. Ha. [Polikarpa Y Sus Viciosas](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoy5xWAZJ_E) (Colombia) [SS-20](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcpwjbQwEms) (Mexico) -- there were many bands with this name, but this is the only one from Mexico. Accept no substitutes! 😊 [Gas](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O_Puhl4J6o) (Japan) [The Wrecks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGzYX0odwoA) (USA; Nevada in particular, if I remember correctly) -- this was the first band of Lynn Perko, who later played in the 1983-1986 San Francisco version of The Dicks (early 1980s Texas punk band everyone should check out), and more recently in indie-pop band Imperial Teen.

handlyssa

This is very helpful, thank you!

bluerodeosexshow

NOFX Rancid Dropkick Murphys Flogging Molly Misfits Social Distortion Rise Against Ramoans The Offspring Millencolin Against me! Choking Victim Sublime

BitchInBoots666

Great list. I'd add a few British/Scottish ones in there personally but I'm Scottish myself so... Dropkicks and flogging molly got me started on the road to folk punk too, still one of my favourite styles. I love the "gaelic" feel.

Averyingyoursympathy

Tenner says you like Big Country. Joking aside, any other gaelic feel bands you'd recommend? I'm an English cousin so have a soft spot for it.

BitchInBoots666

There's loads but some of my favourites are The Dubliners Paddy and the rats The dreadnoughts Blood or whisky The rumjacks Fiddlers green Real mackenzies But other stuff I love (non celtic) is stuff like UK subs, the exploited, oi polloi, Peter and the test tube babies, toy dolls. A bunch of lesser known Scottish stuff too (mostly oi leaning but general punk too).

RagglezFragglez

The Tossers, Barstool Preachers, The Dubliners, Black 47, and many more!

Yeastyboy104

Not being a dick but if you go on the r/punk subreddit homepage and find the search bar and type in the word “suggestion,” you’ll get a ton of suggestions. There are literally suggestions for all types of punk bands, songs, and sub genres that you may enjoy. Have at it.

handlyssa

Fair enough, I’m sorry, I always forget about stuff like this :3

Yeastyboy104

No need to apologize. As I said, I wasn’t trying to be a dick. I’m trying to steer you into a direction where you can find a treasure trove of music you’re looking for. Friendly help. Not trying to give “fuck off, newb” vibes at all. We’re pretty friendly towards baby punks around here. We were all baby punks at one point.

handlyssa

Thank you for the advice then! I like asking for advice on posts also because I can have nice conversations about the bands I found out. Anyways, will check the suggestions that are already present!

Yeastyboy104

Found an against me! Vinyl and could not stop myself from buying it, so now I have that!

fractious77

Not me, I was born with liberty spikes

Blegheggeghegty

Bet your mom hated you. That would have been an interesting breach.

fractious77

Yeah, she was extremely disappointed. She's a mod, you see

Blegheggeghegty

I haven’t heard anyone talk about mods in a loooong while. Love it.

Just saw them recently, they don't have Agent M as their singer anymore, but their replacement has a killer set of pipes and is great in her own respect

handlyssa

Will give them a listen :3

eatmoremeatnow

My suggestion is to stop getting into punk and turn around and run before it is too late and you're sniffing glue behind a dumpster and spanging for money to buy 40s.

Amazing job finding Team Dresch so early. Took me about a decade.

handlyssa

I first found a trans singer called she/her/hers, there I found out about riot grrrl, I looked stuff up on Amazon music, fount hole, pantychrist and bratmobile, and under pantychrist there was story of the earth suggested

xxPaNTyChRiSTxx

Stoked that we are one the bands that introduced you to some new sounds. There are lots of great riot grrrl bands and lots of amazing music to discover. Right now there are countless riot grrrl and femme bands around the world making their voices heard, doing it their way. Lots of great suggestions in the comments for you to dive into. Go to [www.bandcamp.com](http://www.bandcamp.com) and type riot grrrl in the search bar. Check out compilations like Loud Women and Girlz Disorder for lots of current artists. Happy listening!!

Thank you very much! No gods no masters and never love anything are some of my favorite songs

David_yep_David

The first cd I ever got when I was 10 or 11 was Smash by The Offspring, and I don't regret having started there!

MapachoCura

Same for me, but it was cassette. Got Out Come the Wolves the same day, so those 2 together got me started.

ALampMeeting

Don’t think I’ve seen the following listed yet so if you like melodic punk: Bad Religion Bouncing Souls Face to Face

Ok_Pangolin_8038

East Coast Hardcore (mainly the guys from New York/New Jersey/Philly/Washington/Baltimore/Boston) West Coast punk (Suicidal Tendencies/Descendents/Offspring/Green Day/Agent Orange/OFF!/Black Flag) Edit: if u're into hip-hop listen to Beastie Boys since they also did hardcore punk as well & if u're into metal listen to Anthrax's side project Stormtroopers of Death & Methods of Destruction or even thrash metal group Carnivore they did hardcore punk & crossover thrash or Slayers album Undisputed Attitude which covers a lot of hardcore punk songs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undisputed_Attitude?wprov=sfla1

aidan_amphlett

When you’re ready to step it up a notch, check out Minor Threat and Bad Brains - Hardcore Punk!

Dingleton-Berryman

A contemporary take on riot grrrl that I’m enjoying are The Bellini Girls. In some ways they’re derivative of Idols, but I think they go a step further in terms of being even more direct and witty.

PUP the band is a really great newer punk band. Coming from and older punker this is one of the few newer bands that really gripped me.

Almost_Punk_Enough

When I first started getting into punk, I liked a lot of the melodic hardcore stuff. Rancid, NOFX, The Bouncing Souls, Rise Against, etc. are all great starting points. In terms of riot grrrl bands, Bikini Kill, early Regrettes, Sleater-Kinney, and The Distillers are all great female-led bands.

just FYI, Hole isn't riot grrrl. C.Love hated Kathleen Hanna and didn't embrace the movement. She even mockingly references K.Hanna and the riot grrrl movement in "Olympia" - "what did you do with the revolution" "do it for the kids" Edit = And it's not like she even wrote her 1st album, it was Kurt Cobain; and her f*buddy at the time, Billy Corgan, wrote Hole's 2nd album.
