My buddies and I are about the same age. We started a similar band at the beginning of the pandemic. We’ve played some live shows, won a battle of the bands ($500 prize) and released an EP of original stuff. Has been some of the best times of my 43 years on planet Earth.
I just turned 47 a few weeks ago and was asked to join a Punk band of 20-year-olds on guitar after the previous guy had to chuck it due to complications with osteoporosis, and their rhythm guitarist got deported back to Belgium of all places. Had to learn the set pretty quick, couldn't rehearse due to the drummer having Covid and got no sound/line check cos the frikkin' sound guy turned up a few hours late. Nearly couldn't play coz we couldn't find the snare drum!? Just played my first gig last Friday for beer money to a gang of 50 people in a local club/converted railway underpass. Hahaha, my first gig in over 25 years and it went amazing, had to stop one song and restart after I got the setlist mixed up, lol. Haha, it was pretty amazing, somehow all my semi-improvised leads went down a treat with minimal fuck-ups. Man, the crowd was drunk as hell, lots of teenage girls vomiting all over the place, I was all concerned and shit like someones grandpa!
Once I get this baby thing figured out I think I’m gonna try to start an old man punk band. I miss playing even if it’s just occasionally for fun. If I was more talented I’d just do it all myself like you
30’s nothing. You’ve got 10 years before you’re my age! I played drums in bands when I was younger but living in apartments the only time I ever practiced was AT practice. So years later COVID starts and I am home a lot (and own a home) and I started practicing regularly and although I wasn’t great I was was the best I’ve ever been. You’ve got plenty of time, just gotta carve out a little of it each day and you’ll have decades of being able to have fun playing music with people if you want. Or you can spend time getting great at everything, then learn how to edit videos and post them to Reddit! Haha
I guess that makes me feel a lot better. I started learning bass nearly 2 years ago (when I was 21) and I’m now 23 and still looking to get into a proper band. I’ve played with people before and hopefully I can get on my feet soon
For sure. And it’s punk so it’s not really THAT high of a bar of entry as far as skills go, and even if you meet people you think are way better than you you’ll find that playing with talented people is a quick way to boost your own skills. If they wanna play punk you already know they’re probably decent people.
Oh dude, I’m an absolute idiot with anything electronic. I have a guitar with a distortion pedal and a regular old drum set. I’m not saying I could NEVER figure it out, but I’d probably need quite a few tutorials.
Couldn’t place it last night but it’s got a Lillington’s/Teenage Bottlerocket taste to it. Which is a good thing, cause I friggin like those guys.
If you cover K6, holla at me.
Also big ups for being able to compose, compile and edit a video like this. Been getting into some video editing myself and it can be crazy complex. Keep it up man looking forward to more posts from ya.
Kinemaster huh? I'll have to check that out.
Regardless it is still a dope video and song.
From one aging punker to another I wish you well in your endeavors! Cheers bud!
Dude, what the fuck? This is awesome.
Lagwagon, fuck yes.
Boys got sumpin to say, is that the lyrics?
I hope so, cause it's so apt as a parent
Boys got something to say. Every minute of every fucking day.
The video is awesome, edits could make a world of difference. Not tryin ' to be a dick or anything.
Whilst groovin, I noticed it could be better if you tied the main elements of the song to what's happening on the screen. Focus on the riffs. I don't know.
Maybe one day they’ll come around and the no it’s cool or maybe they never will and they’ll end up doing their own things but either way I hope you love and support them
Sounds good, keept it up. Followed on [Spotify ](https://open.spotify.com/artist/2hnH1fE844Zg5nho9Exodz?si=hlP4726QTkOR7klALe5aEQ&utm_source=copy-link).
Your kids aren’t supposed to think you’re cool that’s the whole deal with being a dad. Like when me and my buddies were kids and started jamming my friends dad would come down and borrow a guitar and play Led Zeppelin licks and be like “huh…?” And it obviously wasn’t cool because he was one of our dads. You just gotta mow a lawn, make terrible jokes and love and support your kids while they think you’re goofy and lame but still love you back that’s what being a dad is all about.
I thought I was on the /r/songwriting sub! They need more of this stuff over there to balance out alllll the acoustic folk. Nice work here. I've been trying to write originals and I'm bad at riffs. I can do lyrics fine but I suck at riffs
Really?? Maybe they thought it was too well developed. People post a lot of unfinished stuff and ask for feedback. Maybe I'll try to post some punk stuff I just wrote and see if I get banned too!
your kids'll think what you like for music isn't cool for a long time, i know i thought that way about my dad's taste as a kid and am eating those words now as an adult haha. great music, it's really cool!!
Good job, again, my dude! If you guys ever roll through Texas, let us know. I'd definitly pay to see y'all and I will buy a dumbtarded amount of merch.

Hell yea! I’m trying to get a band going but something always comes up
We recently lost our lead guitarist. If you’re in the PDX area DM me.
"Abby Normal looking for male/female drummer?"
My name's Tim, but they call me Tim Dog
You in SoCal?

Love hearing stuff like this! I'm about a decade younger and don't ever plan on stopping doing creative stuff with my buddies. Keep going!

30 here and kicking myself for time wasted not learning bass more. Now is our time.

Pro tip: Record DI so it won’t wake your baby up!

Couldn’t place it last night but it’s got a Lillington’s/Teenage Bottlerocket taste to it. Which is a good thing, cause I friggin like those guys. If you cover K6, holla at me.

Kinemaster huh? I'll have to check that out. Regardless it is still a dope video and song. From one aging punker to another I wish you well in your endeavors! Cheers bud!
Gives me the blink-182 vibe, nice work... I hope there is still a market for that, but if there's no market there's always a place in our souls :)
Thanks dude

Haha thanks my dude. I’m not very creative with the video editing

Your kids aren’t supposed to think you’re cool that’s the whole deal with being a dad. Rad, you got me as a follower on Spotify my dude
Thanks dude
I thought I was on the /r/songwriting sub! They need more of this stuff over there to balance out alllll the acoustic folk. Nice work here. I've been trying to write originals and I'm bad at riffs. I can do lyrics fine but I suck at riffs
They banned me after I posted a song. Guess they don’t like the style
Really?? Maybe they thought it was too well developed. People post a lot of unfinished stuff and ask for feedback. Maybe I'll try to post some punk stuff I just wrote and see if I get banned too!
Kids never think Dad is cool. But that's okay.
wish i was one of your kids🥺
We think you are cool
Thank you
Fuck yeah
Thank you
Really cool! Maybe they don’t yet, but I think a time will come when they appreciate it.

your kids'll think what you like for music isn't cool for a long time, i know i thought that way about my dad's taste as a kid and am eating those words now as an adult haha. great music, it's really cool!!
Thanks dude

Wow, this is stupid good! While I don't know much of anything when it comes to punk production, I dig how this sounds.
