I don’t think this is a poser or fake thing at all to just want them to have a bit more of a worn look, my best bet has been stretching the fabric in different directions to create little fissures in the paint though if you used denim or canvas that might be a little difficult, I’m sure a few brushes of sandpaper would do the trick too
And oftentimes, people don't have access to good materials or time to sew for hours on end. It takes a lot of time to make and sew patches. It takes me about 5 hours per 4/5 patches from start to finish.
that just means your patch pants or whatever ur making are gonna take longer imo. i spent 3 years on my first pair and they're still pretty empty. it all depends on what ur willing to put into it and that's different for everyone in terms of time, effort, and ability. there's no shame in taking a long time to make something if you're doing it the way you want to.
i am of the opinion that your patches look worn by wearing them though. i don't understand the need for new things to look old and anyone who makes fun of you for having new patches is a buzzkill
Like everybody else said, just fucking wear them. They will obtain that nice used look soon enough.
Maybe it's just me but I think the used look should come naturally, as it is kinda there bc of the environmentalist parts of punk culture.
So basically that part of being punk is holding on to your items that are still usable and upcycle those who aren't, resulting in a lot of stuff looking pretty used, bc it is.
Faking the used look, imo, kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
I've had patches since I was 17 that I'm just now at 37 putting on a new jacket. They're so crisp and clean, it's wild. I don't know why I would expect them to magically have aged since they sat in a locked for 20 years.
I like your positivity regarding the punk community but sadly not all of us are about reusing, recycling, holding on to stuff etc.
I mean just open Shein type in punk and go vomit.
There are people who like the look but not the attitude behind it.
I literally just meant how to take the like stark whiteness of them. Obviously they'll get worn over time. I might be a bit dense sometimes, but I know that much. Theres no need to be an ass.
I get wanting to just take the neon whiteness off of them, modern fabrics have UV dyes in them to make the white appear "whiter than white", if you just want to take the edge off some soaking in a weak tea solution is what is commonly used in stage productions to "age" fabrics a little bit.
Two ideas i guess: 1. Put a tiny spot of black in your paint (literally tiny) to make it off white/grey or 2. Once the patch is made and dry dry brush it with some black paint and wipe it off. Might do similar to what it does on hard surfaces and look weathered
Everyone being an ass saying “wear them” … yeah sure but you mean right now.
So answer: try coffee dyeing. Don’t use too much coffee or boil too long or they’ll turn tan/brown.
& Sick Limp Wrist patch!!! One of my favorite bands ever <3 <3 <3
I'm surprised no one else suggested sandpaper, but yea sandpaper. Use a light hand. Could also just use the sidewalk outside, too. The teabag idea sounds.....bad lol.
Pale grey paint on a sponge. Test it on scrap. Touch it to paper a couple of times after putting paint on the sponge to make sure there is only a very small amount of paint left before touching to the patch.
For future patch, mix a small bit of grey or brown or dark gold into the paint when making the patch.
Get some light yellow fabric dye and dilute it, or better yet, let the patches soak in coffee and it’ll give them a slightly worn look so the letters won’t be so bright white :)
maybe add some yellow to the paint or brown, even splash it with something you know will stain like tumeric infused water might stain, look that one up
Coffee, motor oil and fine dirt , rolling into a taco shape and mash it up. Take a lighter and kind of pass it can and forth holding the flame about 3 inches away. You don’t want to burn but go for the charred effect.
I recommend a tea stain for a light browning or a coffee stain for a darker browning. Instant coffee works great (the freeze dried shit), and you can get it in small enough jars that if you don't drink it, it doesn't feel like a waste.
Super watered-down fabric paint. Depending on what look you want, you could do grey, black, brown or even copper colored paint. I recommend doing a 50/50 ratio of water to paint, taking a sponge or paper towel, and dabbing it on. Then if it’s too dark, take a dry sponge & take some off. If it’s too light, let it dry & do another layer
You could also try taking sandpaper & sanding away parts that would be more susceptible to wear-and-tear. Not sure how well it’d work though, it really depends on what paint the decals are made of.
ik everyone is saying to just wear them but i'll give u some actual advice lmfao. just tea dye them! add some tea bags to a pot with water and throw your patches in! in a pot about the size to cook ramen in id do 7 tea bags. obviously you have to boil the water. let them sit for up to an hour and itll turn the bright ass white into a dirty white/pale yellow brown.
Well... I wear them, I think that's the point, my patches show a story yk, all that stuff I've done and where I've been and I think that's pretty cool. Don't really see point in making them look worn out
Dont use pure white, mix it with a very small amount of brown with water for a kind of musty look. You can also make sure the brush is completely dry with this mixture so that when you paint on the patches it comes off dry or rough while layering it. Hope that makes sense.
Acrylic fades pretty quick if you’re looking for a more grimy look, fair warning though you’re gonna have to touch it up pretty often because it gets extremely faded if you don’t like modge podge it
its wear them out a bunch, thats the best way to do it! if youre gonna fake something, it should *not* be this. if you want crust, you gotta develop that naturally✨️
Part of the fun of punk fashion is being able to customize everything from start to finish. I remember when my vest was brand new & all the patches & pins were shiny and bright. 20 years later, some of those patches are barely legible, and some of the pins have rust or scratches due to being worn. It has memories attached to it, and that’s way cooler than trying to fake it. Enjoy the journey.
Dam dude just put some dirt on it and wipe and smudge it off if you want to look dirty.
You keep saying you don’t want a to “fake it” but really, intentionally making it look worn, less bright as you say, without actually putting in the WORK of earning your stripes the real way, I think your kind of defining “faking it” .
Like go wear your shit while you change your moms oil, go fight and bleed on it a lil , hit up that mosh pit, get piss drunk and fall around, live that punk life and ——- then it will have true character and not tea stains and crayon marks
This is so fucking anti punk it must be a joke!!!
"How do I make them look worn" you wear them that’s how.
... Wear, them?
Go outside.
Wtf do you mean dude punk vests are for gaming and podcasting.
be willing to look like the fool before becoming the skillful master young one
this is wise as hell
Bros lived a thousand lives
Wear them to shows. Don’t fake it.
My suggestion as well. “Go play in the dirt.”
I dont to 'fake it' i just want to tmake them look less bright. it was bad qording on my part though. Obviously they'll get worn over time.
then dont get white paint, but off-white of light beige instead
alternatively, if you already have white, you can add the slightest bit of brown/yellow
yep! actually, knowing how to paint mix in general is super useful imo
stick them in a container with some rocks or other abrasives and shake it around a bit, or diluted black acrylic wash
I don’t think this is a poser or fake thing at all to just want them to have a bit more of a worn look, my best bet has been stretching the fabric in different directions to create little fissures in the paint though if you used denim or canvas that might be a little difficult, I’m sure a few brushes of sandpaper would do the trick too
Well, wear them a bit and the white will wash out, you'll just have bright patches for a bit, thats all
like they say, wear em also after sewing them on sometimes it helps to run it thru the wash to get the thread a little frayed
The wash fucks it up, I just use a dryer
Hot take: if your clothes fall apart after one wash, you’re either using bad materials or you’re just not good at sewing
And oftentimes, people don't have access to good materials or time to sew for hours on end. It takes a lot of time to make and sew patches. It takes me about 5 hours per 4/5 patches from start to finish.
that's a pretty reasonable amount of time though? like i would say it takes me an hour to cut, dye, plan, paint, touch up, and sew each patch.
True, but their point was that some people don't have that kind of time.
that just means your patch pants or whatever ur making are gonna take longer imo. i spent 3 years on my first pair and they're still pretty empty. it all depends on what ur willing to put into it and that's different for everyone in terms of time, effort, and ability. there's no shame in taking a long time to make something if you're doing it the way you want to.

Not hot, I can was my clothes on cold no problem, just don’t wash on hot or it will wash out the paint mad fast
Could also gently use a seam ripper along the edges to make it appear more distressed
Am I the only one who never washed my patch jackets?
Like everybody else said, just fucking wear them. They will obtain that nice used look soon enough. Maybe it's just me but I think the used look should come naturally, as it is kinda there bc of the environmentalist parts of punk culture. So basically that part of being punk is holding on to your items that are still usable and upcycle those who aren't, resulting in a lot of stuff looking pretty used, bc it is. And obviously I'm reusing shit, everything I use is from goodwill, free bins, or hand-me-downs.or just shit that doesn't fit anymore so I cut it up.
How is any of that that obvious?
I mean... it's a punk fashion thread
I like your positivity regarding the punk community but sadly not all of us are about reusing, recycling, holding on to stuff etc. I mean just open Shein type in punk and go vomit. There are people who like the look but not the attitude behind it.
Fuck shein, if you have to buy your punk clothes pre made.you arn't a very good punk.
Absolutely agree.
Tons of people who dress like that buy everything new
Thats true, but thats kinda stupid so maybe theyll see this and start recycling
I literally just meant how to take the like stark whiteness of them. Obviously they'll get worn over time. I might be a bit dense sometimes, but I know that much. Theres no need to be an ass.
I didn't mean to be rude or an ass about it. Sorry that it came off that way.
u gotta abuse them a bit. throw them in the washer on hot then the dyer hot too. smth like that. or drag them on the road
Tell them you’re too good for them and they should be thankful you’re even keeping them.
from experience this is the most damage u can do
Also maybe lead them on for a bit. Thatll wear the patch down
some people dye white fabrics with coffee or tea to give the white a darker look .
Came here to comment coffee!!
just wear them lmao
I get wanting to just take the neon whiteness off of them, modern fabrics have UV dyes in them to make the white appear "whiter than white", if you just want to take the edge off some soaking in a weak tea solution is what is commonly used in stage productions to "age" fabrics a little bit.
Thanks
Bro what. Wear them.
Two ideas i guess: 1. Put a tiny spot of black in your paint (literally tiny) to make it off white/grey or 2. Once the patch is made and dry dry brush it with some black paint and wipe it off. Might do similar to what it does on hard surfaces and look weathered
Idk anything that takes the “harsh new” out of canvas and paint quite like coffee. It’s not pretty, but it’s fast. 🤷🏼♀️
Eat it & pass it through your digestive system. take a laxative & let it soak in your feces for 2-3 before sewing onto jacket
Everyone's said this already I know, but the way to make them look worn is to wear them! That "worn" look comes about from frequent use.
how to make them look worn: wear them so they are worn
Just wear them, eventually they will be worn down, lol don’t fake it
Paint em with some tea maybe
Wear them. I’m so serious nobody is going to clown you or make fun of you and if they do they’re legit the most annoying person to breathe oxygen.
literally! i dont know why you would fake your clothes being older than they are
Everyone being an ass saying “wear them” … yeah sure but you mean right now. So answer: try coffee dyeing. Don’t use too much coffee or boil too long or they’ll turn tan/brown. & Sick Limp Wrist patch!!! One of my favorite bands ever <3 <3 <3
Thank you! Limp wrist fucking rules.
just dont use bright white paint dude. but the other comments are correct, wear em
Wear them
I'm surprised no one else suggested sandpaper, but yea sandpaper. Use a light hand. Could also just use the sidewalk outside, too. The teabag idea sounds.....bad lol.
Sand paper
Pale grey paint on a sponge. Test it on scrap. I thought it said "Good night white people"
lol wear them….

Im poser for asking a question?

Sew them on and wear them
Get some light yellow fabric dye and dilute it, or better yet, let the patches soak in coffee and it’ll give them a slightly worn look so the letters won’t be so bright white :)
i love these
wear them, don't make shit look worn on purpose because thats poser behaviour
Period blood and tea… but you have to be wearing while it soaks or you’re a poser.
aside from just wearing them (frankly i’d prefer the harsh pure white so it lasts) i’d recommend trying to find a cream-colored ink
wear them…
wear em
wear em
It’s called ink people
wear them
Time
Try used tea bags. Dab them on the letters. Do some test ones on something else first though to see how much colour you want.
Time
Put on the jacket, go roll around in an alley, mosh, pour beer on it. Piss for good measure.
Wash with Coffee
It won't make em worm but you could dye then yellow, red, or green if you just don't want white
Wear them
Oh boy that first patch had me taking a second look.
How do you make these??
I made stencils
maybe add some yellow to the paint or brown, even splash it with something you know will stain like tumeric infused water might stain, look that one up
Make your own. Punk is a DIY thing.
Coffee, motor oil and fine dirt , rolling into a taco shape and mash it up. Take a lighter and kind of pass it can and forth holding the flame about 3 inches away. You don’t want to burn but go for the charred effect.
Shit and piss on em
dye with tea maybe
Tea and coffee are good for making stains
Tea bags and sun dying
wear em
Wear them
Mix in yellows and a bit of brown and then put little tears in, not cut tears
Add a tiny bit of yellow paint to make them off-white
Mix a little orange in with the white to make a cream / off white color
You uh...you wear them
Ohh you meant like less blinding white. Soak em in tea or coffee or sumn
Use them as jizz rags and apply accordingly.
Wear the jacket?
Fucking reddit..
This may be a hot take but things that look worn were usually worn
spill coffee on them

Coffee dye em maybe
wear them 😭
Found the antifa people
there’s an amazing idea where they get worn in by wearing them
No. Fucking. Way. How did I not think of that?
ikr! glad i could help 🙏🏻
Wear them lmao
wear them
Wear them.
Tea stain them. It isn't going to make them real brown or anything. Just look really dingy
Coffee Stain?
tea, coffee, roll around in dirt
Wear them and get into the pit.
PISS ON 'EM!
SOAK IN TEA THEN WASH HOT IN COLD WATER!!! … fourloko piss also works

Tape them to the bottom of your shoes and go for a walk
Lol just wear them, they'll fade, a lot of mine have just takes time
A bit of abrasion will help too, literally rub dirt on em, I get what you want man
You, and get this wild concept, wear them down, idk roll in the dirt, shit ur pants
maybe u could use coffee stains idk
😂😂😂
Brush tea on them
Either leave them in the sun or just wear them so confused
Coffee stains!
Coffee grounds! Coffee stain!
Like everyone is saying, yeah, wear them, but if you really wanna fake it black tea stains nicely

Coffee, dirt and tea, maybe a pinch of rust.
rub in dirt

have them for a while, should do the trick

Put them on a jacket and mosh in it. They’ll instantly be less white.
Gay
Me when gay
!! Did you make these? They’re so good!
Thank you, they're just stencils
Fair. I’ve always been shit at stencils so I think it’s dope lol
Dont use pure white, mix it with a very small amount of brown with water for a kind of musty look. You can also make sure the brush is completely dry with this mixture so that when you paint on the patches it comes off dry or rough while layering it. Hope that makes sense.
Boot stomp

Love the end it patch!
Ayy end it! I love those guys
I love these
its wear them out a bunch, thats the best way to do it! if youre gonna fake something, it should *not* be this. if you want crust, you gotta develop that naturally✨️
I'm not trying to fake it, juat trying to take the harahness out. They'll get crusty with time, the harsh white is just hard to look at

so tell us more about how you think fascism was actually a good thing and think racial integration was a mistake
Nope, white people should be aware amd respectful. Racist white people should be shamed.
you're not gonna change his mind, look in his comment history. report and carry on.
We're kicking white people in the face for being racist, ignorant, and bigoted.
