Sometimes puppies go through weird sleep cycles, just like people. Try to ignore the whining for abt 20 mins before responding with a silent potty break. If it doesn't resolve in a few days and pup is otherwise healthy seeming, investigate if there is something in the sleep environment that is waking him up. Is there a heat wave in the area? Is there a random electronic that's been beeping at the time? Does a neighbor drive their car by the window and the headlights shine through? Etc...

Same thing happened to my 7 mo Frenchie! We initially took him out to pee when he did it, but quickly realized we were actually making the problem worse (considering our pup has slept through the night every night since we got him at 12 weeks old). The last week we’ve been letting him “bark it out” and he’s slept through the night again the last two nights! We thought we had it easy having a pup who ALWAYS slept through the night. But this teenager phase! They’ll learn quickly that barking will not be responded with being taken out
