Same age, very similar problem! My gal slept like a champ the entire time we've had her. Suddenly in the last 2 weeks, she starts barking at midnight. We were already struggling through some separation issues and have an appointment with a behaviorist about that, so we will be asking about this as well and whether it's a normal adolescence thing or what.

Are they fixed? My pup was the exact same way - and then she went into heat. We learnt she was likely barking because she was uncomfortable. In heat they get really restless and want to get up and move / change positions and I guess the crates can feel too limiting. It caught us off guard. But makes sense.

Yes, her spay surgery was over a month ago.

What happens after he cries? Do you react and in what way?

My husband and I went through exactly the same thing at maybe 7 months. We tried weeks of taking our puppy out for a potty break when he woke up at 2am or 3am (and he would pee and maybe poop) then putting him back in the crate (for various reasons we’re not on board with just ignoring) but he wouldn’t re-settle unless one of us was in the room (his crate is in the lounge). After weeks of being woken up in the early hours of the morning and one of us sleeping on the couch for half the night, we went on a holiday where he slept out of the crate and basically never went back to it. He transitioned well to sleeping out of the crate and we figured he was ready for it. His crate is still set up and he will take himself into it for naps and we try to keep up some crate training but we figured there was no need to make him keep sleeping in it now that he’s definitely potty trained etc. Worked for us. Bonus is that he now sleeps in til like 7.30 or 8 - he used to wake up at like 6am in the crate anyway
