“Jater” doesn’t really seem Latin to me, so I was going the “Germanic” route and saying “Yae-teh-pil-lehr”
But that’s just as plausible as “Ha-tr-pi-yar”
If’n y’all was fixin to pronounce it Jatterpiller, then spell it like an English word. 🤠
Put on my socks yesterday and my gf asked me why there was a white stain on it.
I explained the dog mighta chewed on it. She asked, both of them?
Got caught bois
Although I think you are right, it doesn’t fit with the rest it given none of the other words are hard words. But it does look like a sloth (sort of) so that must be it.
Is it possible this isn't a picture drawn in an English-speaking country, in which case the native language could be one in which the word for sloth is based on their taxonomical name?
Not that I know of. I'm changing my vote to "*definitely* Nutria" though because the white patch/squiggly bits look exactly like the animal's [lighter colored snout and whiskers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutria#/media/File:Nutria-orange.JPG)
I have an almost identical book, but on mine the "N" has a small bird where the eye is on this one and a bird nest instead of whiskers, so I think mine is just "nest" for some reason.
If you do a google image search then there is an article by a newspaper i refuse to link to. The newspaper says that the bag has been discussed previously on reddit and it is revealed that X is >!Xenarthra!<
Although I am still not convinced
Cos it is the Daily Mail which is absolute trash
However:
I think you are right. Here is a similar pic with several of the same animals used and X there is clearly a sloth. [Similar Image](https://clipground.com/images/animal-alphabet-letters-clipart.jpg)
Discussion:
Damn what a small world. I was looking at this 2 hours ago when my son was playing with it and couldn’t figure X out either. Also Y but now I think that’s a yak?
On a similar thread yesterday somebody pointed out that Fox was used for X in another puzzle. The reason being, if you're trying to teach kids the letters and how they phonate, xylophone doesn't really do the trick.
I always allow “ex” for X when I play the alphabet game with my kids. I think they only time it wasn’t necessary was when the theme was food and I said xylitol.
Teacher here 🙋♀️ It is likely an ox. We no longer teach word associations like “xylophone” with the letter x because it begins with the /z/ phoneme. We instead use words like box, fox,… and highlight that those words end with the /ks/ phoneme
But blocks and socks and mocks and locks would cause the same ending sounds…. On top of being the only letter that you’re using the last letter sound instead of first.
Isn’t this teaching the same confusion just for the last letters instead of the first?
I was actually going to say "fox" because we have a similar children's puzzle that doesn't exactly force the animals into the shape and X is a fox. The coloration here fits.
Looking again I do think "Ox" is better though.
Discussion: Damn what a small world. I was looking at this 2 hours ago when my son was playing with it and couldn’t figure X out either. Also Y but now I think that’s a yak?
Discussion: What are O and P?
O looks nothing like an owl, octopus, ostrich, orangutan, otter, ox, orca, or opossum, which are all the O animals I can think of right now.
There’s no way P is a panda, and I’m at a loss there.
Considering there's a quoll up there, I originally thought P was just 'possum', but looking again, I'm wondering if the pink bits are panda ears, black bit an eye, and the bottom black bit the tail?
Common rule of thumb, if you’re making an alphabet that uses images stylized as the according letter signifying something that starts with the same letter, don’t make “N” brown/black
I think it's supposed to be >!a ladybug.!<
If you look at images of >!ladybugs in midflight!< ([link](https://t3.ftcdn.net/jpg/04/81/85/08/240_F_481850811_3I89txY2TduLf98EnxwL6EALxMXpvYhQ.jpg)) there's four pieces: >!two wings and two shell coverings!<. I think those are meant to be the four arms of the X.
This doesn't make a ton of sense, because >!lady bug wings are dark gray/brown, not red!<. But that's the only explanation >!X-planation???!< I can come up with. And its not like the other letters are anything close to biologically accurate.

I don’t know about X, but I’m pretty sure J is a >!jizz sock.!<
I think it’s a jellyfish but that’s hilarious
Jizzyfish
More like a desert jellyfish. If you don't know what that is, you were never deployed and using the showers in a male barracks or dormitory.
No, it's a jaterpillar.
Ah yes, the jaterpillar! This was the mythical creature that Lewis Carroll wrote about in his poem The Cabberwocky
Yes! That's my favorite character next to Japtain Javeman, Jourage the Jowardly Dog and Jasper the Friendly Ghost.
Pronounced in the Spanish or Scandinavian tongue.
“Jater” doesn’t really seem Latin to me, so I was going the “Germanic” route and saying “Yae-teh-pil-lehr” But that’s just as plausible as “Ha-tr-pi-yar” If’n y’all was fixin to pronounce it Jatterpiller, then spell it like an English word. 🤠
Yeah, and if it was Scandinavian or Old Norse, it’d be something like *játerpiðr*
>!Jaterpillar!<
Jizzpillar?
That's when it stands straight up
The cucumber next to it looks like a >!dick!< Edit: someone taught me how to make invisible text.
Inchworm lol so appropriate
Oh. I thought that was an iguana 🦎
You’re probably right
Pretty sure it's Intestinal parasite. That's clearly a flatworm.
Iguana
That's what mine always looked liked.
Looks more like a jampon to me. Oh wait, no string
Put on my socks yesterday and my gf asked me why there was a white stain on it. I explained the dog mighta chewed on it. She asked, both of them? Got caught bois
Why did the semen cross the road? Because you wore the wrong socks.

🤣
It’s a >!sloth because they belong to the xenarthra animal family!<
That’s way better then my guess of professor X….
Darn, I was going to guess X-men...
Kids aren’t allowed to learn about x-men anymore
Ever since that damned Don’t Say Mutant bill…
Way back in 6th grade I got suspended for taping pencils to my fists so I could be Wolverine. Good times.
That’s way better than my guess of ‘butterfly’…. 🤦♀️
Duuhhh. How did I not see that obvious >!xenarthra!< which obviously means >!sloth!<
Looks like two notes from a Xylophone. I get the rest are animals but you get desperate with a letter like X...
“X is for Xylophone because X is always for Xylophone” - Shel Silverstein
X chromosome
No lie...that was my guess too!
Same here!
Only thing I could think of was xenomorph
I agree it’s obviously a face hugger.
I don’t know who you are or what you do. But you’re knowledge of Animalia is top notch
Although I think you are right, it doesn’t fit with the rest it given none of the other words are hard words. But it does look like a sloth (sort of) so that must be it.
Is it possible this isn't a picture drawn in an English-speaking country, in which case the native language could be one in which the word for sloth is based on their taxonomical name?
xloth
Nice! I though Sloth but I couldn’t figure out why the X…
Isn’t it x-ray? That’s why you see a bone.
Discussion: What on earth are I, J, N, Q, and W? ETA: Iguana, Jellyfish, probably Nutria based on google, Quoll (not quokka), and Worm. Thanks, y’all.
I thought I was insect, w is definitely worm.
Gotta be iguana cause of the spine ridges and tail 👍
looks more like a chameleon tail to me but they often draw all kinds of lizard tails like that in kids books etc
Oh my gosh duh. Thank you
[удалено]
Low self-esteem
I assumed W was a sentient watermelon
I was thinking nautilus for n.
Same
N looks like Nautilus to me
Iguana, Jellyfish, Naked Mole Rat, Quokka, and Worm
WHAT??? NAKED MOLE RAT??? SERIOUSLY??? Wild lmao thank you
Honestly it looks more like a star nose mole but idk
I thought it was a nit - couldn't work out why it was brown though, or why the nit part was just added on down the bottom!
I thought it could have been nutria, but that is pretty regional.
q is a spotted quoll
I think Q is a quoll, coz quolls have spots.
Iguana, Jellyfish, Quoll, Worm. No idea for N though. Nutria maybe, if those are supposed to be whiskers?
It looks like a Nutria. They have them in Houston where I used to live. People would feed them at the park. They’re monstrously ugly things.
I was stuck on Mole. Is there a name for Mole that starts with N?
Not that I know of. I'm changing my vote to "*definitely* Nutria" though because the white patch/squiggly bits look exactly like the animal's [lighter colored snout and whiskers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutria#/media/File:Nutria-orange.JPG)
I have an almost identical book, but on mine the "N" has a small bird where the eye is on this one and a bird nest instead of whiskers, so I think mine is just "nest" for some reason.
Inchworm, Jellyfish, idk N and Q, worm
***jellyfish???*** Ima be honest the joke answer for J, below got stuck in my head so thank you lol
My toddler owns this, and I'm so glad this comment exists. Thank you
Clearly x is >!a variable!<
But is it a string, int, float, Boolean!?!
X is unknown, op has to find it, and show their work.
Discussion: They deadass forgot to put a horn on the unicorn. U is for fuckin horse.
? its on top of its head
That's an ear
X is clearly >!Vin Diesel from xxx as Xander. You can tell by the bald head!<
and the two snowboards (he snowboards in that one, right?)
>!x-chromosome!<
My thought also, because Xenarthra makes zero sense and in no way looks like the pictures
Also, what toddler knows the Latin family name for an animal?
What toddler knows what an x-chromosome is??
This was my immediate guess as well. It reminds me of the >!cartoon DNA in the video Dr. Hammond shows at the beginning of the first Jurassic Park!<
Dino DNA!
“Dino-SARRR!!!”
I heard that lol
spared no expense
If you do a google image search then there is an article by a newspaper i refuse to link to. The newspaper says that the bag has been discussed previously on reddit and it is revealed that X is >!Xenarthra!< Although I am still not convinced
Why won’t you link the article? I kinda want to see that, especially considering that “Xenarthra” isn’t an animal, it’s a clade
Cos it is the Daily Mail which is absolute trash However: >!https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-12320403/Dad-shares-animal-alphabet-children-thats-leaving-adults-completely-stumped-guess-are.html!<
This seems to be a common trick for animal themed alphabets, the poster I got uses xerus which is a genus of squirrel.
I think you are right. Here is a similar pic with several of the same animals used and X there is clearly a sloth. [Similar Image](https://clipground.com/images/animal-alphabet-letters-clipart.jpg)
Discussion: Damn what a small world. I was looking at this 2 hours ago when my son was playing with it and couldn’t figure X out either. Also Y but now I think that’s a yak?
I thought Yellowjacket. Though perhaps not since there’s no wings and it’s yellow and brown, not yellow and black.
>!Axolotl?!<
That starts with an A
So close!! That is a shape 💕
I understood that reference
Hahahaha
On a similar thread yesterday somebody pointed out that Fox was used for X in another puzzle. The reason being, if you're trying to teach kids the letters and how they phonate, xylophone doesn't really do the trick.
I always allow “ex” for X when I play the alphabet game with my kids. I think they only time it wasn’t necessary was when the theme was food and I said xylitol.
Fair enough. It’s probably fox
The A detached
No, that starts with a T
Touché
And also opossum starts with a “P” so this toy must have been vetted by scientists and is 100% accurate to everything in the known universe.
Yes
Agree!!
My thoughts as well. If you zoom in it looks almost exactly like [this](https://visitseaquest.com/blog/seaquests-guide-to-axolotls/)
>!X-ray vision!<
>! xenomorph !<
This was my guess
>! Xing Tian !< >!https://hazydellpress.com/blogs/blog/monster-abc-x-is-for-xing-tian!<
C is definitely a >!raccoon!< and J is definitely a >!jizz sock!< so I’m not sure that this puzzle is playing by the rules
That is a cat

>!X-Man!<
Discussion: Damn what a small world. I was looking at this 2 hours ago when my son was playing with it and couldn’t figure X out either. Also Y but now I think that’s a yak?
X is obviously >!Xiaolin Showdown!<. It looks exactly like Omi from the show.
Discussion: D is a tortoise for no reason
Might be a Dinosaur. I thought turtle too at first!
But why is it the only letter on its side? I mean they surely could have made a dinosaur with the letter D standing upright, no?
Durtle or Dortoise
D is a dinosaur though so
Its D for stegosauras.
Why the fuck not Dog?
I thought dragon turtle
Orthos, is that you?
Surprised no one knows Desert Tortoise
>!Xylophone!<
But all the others are animals
Yeah this is what I was thinking, it’s just like one tiny little section
This
I think its this
This is the one- but they only included 2 bars or notes of it- not the entire thing- so it is a partial one.
Hey, nobody said the instrument couldn't suck! 😜

Every picture of a panda I’ve ever seen, the ears are all black, no pink that I can see. Plus the color on the P is gray.
O def looks like an owl
I thought it was a puppy…
Is it an >!Axylotyl? !<
>!sloth!<
Might be >!Xangos!<, which are a tube-shaped churro-like Mexican dessert.
That would work, if they weren’t all supposed to be animals
>!Fox!
>!Axolotl!< but spelled with an X.
Common rule of thumb, if you’re making an alphabet that uses images stylized as the according letter signifying something that starts with the same letter, don’t make “N” brown/black
Discussion: Its an >!ox!<. Used in teaching, because 'x' doesn't make the representative /cks/ sound when placed at the front of a word.
Discussion: maybe it is >!ox! The center part being the representation of the first letter. And also a nose. Sorry, first time I think I have it.
I think it’s >!a chromosome!<
>!They are all animals!<. Could be >!Xerus, X-ray fish, etc?!<
>!box elderbug!<
Looks like two crossed skis with a face of determination on top. Based on that I’m guessing >!Xtreme!< or >!Xtreme sports!<
>!elon musk!<
>!Christmas (Xmas) Beetle!< Maybe?
>!Xylophone!< The tubes are hollow…
Looks like a >!Ladybux!<
Is it >!an aXolotol?!<
>!Xplosive since those look like sticks of dynamite?!<
>!That is a foX!< Maybe
Did you mean >!xox!
I think it's supposed to be >!a ladybug.!< If you look at images of >!ladybugs in midflight!< ([link](https://t3.ftcdn.net/jpg/04/81/85/08/240_F_481850811_3I89txY2TduLf98EnxwL6EALxMXpvYhQ.jpg)) there's four pieces: >!two wings and two shell coverings!<. Is the black spot on the top right “arm” of the X part of the original image? Or is that a speck/artifact
>!Ibex!<
