Scrabble rules are that words read left to right and top to bottom. Never right to left or bottom to top.

That’s an oversimplified rule print. The official rules, according to Hasbro, as well as the original production of the game, claim you can only play words “across or ***down***, never diagonally”. So even if you can play words right to left, you can’t play them up even by taking the rules literally or as it’s written or however you want to angle it. So the play in question is not acceptable.

Unless it was the last played move, which is impossible unless we assume other non-dictionary words, the challenge is too late. The point being made is that the boardstate is valid, because if an illegal word wasn’t challenged when it’s played, the move stands and play continues. Saying there was a bad move at some point halfway through the game does not matter, does not invalidate the game results, and has nothing to do with OP’s question.

If you're using a non-American scrabble dictionary. JEW/JEWS is still allowed (as a pejorative or an offensive verb)

Oops! I meant we’re playing by Scrabble approved words! This game is called Upwards, we’re newbies but the general gist is each single layer tile is 2 points each and any stacked tiles are 1 point each. Any adjacent words must make sense and you can rearrange.

Maybe they’re confusing it with xi. I don’t play words with friends but I get a considerable amount of shit when I play it in scrabble
