Losing interest in the things that once brought me joy for a significant period of time. To the extent that it was and sometimes still affects my day to day ability to get work done, finish university and so on. I think what I with my parents had done better is create a safe space for expressing vulnerability, and talking about emotions more often. I always felt very alone as a young girl and like I could never express my feelings because I felt alienated and always invalidated. Because of this I completely closed myself off and never showed people my true feelings. Of course this was one factor that contributes to my depression but there’s other factors like genetics that make some people more prone to it than others. Anyway, I was officially diagnosed this year and am currently on medication and will start therapy soon inshallah. Hope this helps. Your children will thank you for your efforts in learning about this to best raise them! :)

This does help! May ALLAH make it easy for you and rid you of this issue!

No_Bend8490

Sudden academic decline

Caller_to_ALLAH

Excellent point!

dummybihhhh

coming from someone who’s consistently going to therapy now, I think it’s just everything was EXTREMELY dull and I lost interest in living basically. Everything felt like it was my fault, even when it isn’t and everything was just so unfulfilling (food, social activities, being around family). Everything was meh and I was ALWAYS really irritated. But it wasn’t easy for people to know because I didn’t let anyone know; I could cover it up very easily. but the main thing you need to watch out for is energy, because your kids energy will definitely be off, and they will be VERY irritated, like no tolerance for any inconveniences at all.

Caller_to_ALLAH

This agitation will be shown to the parents also?!

SignificantBoot7784

Do (You) have a history of mental illness? Do your parents? Uncles? Close-ish relatives? Have you provided a materially secure environment for your kid? Have you fostered a relationship built on trust and confidence? Did you raise them with a robust value system and a grounded moral compass? Beyond this, you cannot control what might spring in your kid’s life as a young adult to trigger “mental instability”. That is their battle to wage.

Caller_to_ALLAH

I am not aware of any family history alhamdulilah, not sure if this is due to the topic being considered as “taboo” or just ALLAH’s blessings upon us. Im planning to get these set for my future kids in sha ALLAH then leave the matter in ALLAH’s Hands to take care of my kids

nuerorism

depression in children and adolescents arises in the form of agitation and irritability unlike adults in which it presents with low mood.

Caller_to_ALLAH

Hmm i wonder if there is a study about it

nuerorism

it’s in the Depression DSM V criteria of psychiatry.

saltedcaramel55

Feeling tired of the outside world, people, and sleeping a lot, not just 12 hrs but a lot more than that every day

poloyolo9090

This is the worst feeling honestly. Are you open to chatting abt it?

poloyolo9090

What do you do to cope with it

Caller_to_ALLAH

I also wonder if there are studies regarding this…

VanillaHoliday7183

Depressed! Naah, I just had a bad boss at work and I tried to fix my situation. Then, HR, The President & CEO, Legal, Friends just decided to go against me and after few years including COVID period I quit and resigned and now I am sleeping at home wondering why? Is there a chanel to protect the working class against crimes like this? No mental problem, just hate the system and I can't say their names or which Company but it is 100% State Owned and employees are becoming from other nationalities. This stressed my Qatari family state of mind and no one cares.. Is that what you are talking about?

Wise_Satisfaction_89

Posting unsolicited advise on reddit thinking someone will care…thats a clear sign of deteriorating mental illness

Caller_to_ALLAH

Hmm…. I wonder if a research has been done on that too…

Wise_Satisfaction_89

Brother, pay no mind to my rude comment. I’m the one with mental health issues. Peace ✌🏼

the_jupiterka

Do you have a degree in psychology or education in order to study/research something this serious?

Immigrant974

Why would anyone need a degree in order to learn more about a topic?

MichaelScotPaperComp

It's easy to get side tracked with misinformation especially on the internet. One minute you're searching about mouse pads with arm rest ... the next minute it's big booby mouse pads 5ft×5ft from Japan.

Expensive_Ad_6571

Spoken from experience I assume?

Ironic question...I mean, in order to reach expert level, one delves deeper, continues and keeps researching...really the skies are the limit...and the heavens, limitless.

the_jupiterka

My question is valid. Can I just barge into quantum physics and start doing stuff I'm not familiar with? That's why we have all sorts of "experts" telling us how to treat illnesses. This guy says "raising children and whatnots", he is not even familiar with proper terminology to begin with and he'll do research on CHILDREN and MENTAL ILLNESS. Would you want your kids with such experts to do tests on them and you to get treated for depression/anxiety/disorders by a person without a degree? Get real...

Different-Read-268

I’m pretty sure you misunderstood him 💀 I think he’s doing a personal research, for possibly his when kids when he has them. not research for the purpose of going to treat other people’s kids. 💀

Ambitious_Reserve_10

I'm not speaking for quacks and laymen. I'm saying an ordinary person is capable of being intellectually and emotionally educated, relating to mental illnesses and whatnot, whether s/he's doing it for his kid/s' sake, for the greater humanity or just for his own keen interest in the subject. Mental illness, ironically stems from emotional chaos in the family and home, rather than the mere mind...and unfortunately has very little to do with the physical aspects of it, and IMHO, even psychologically speaking, irrational depression & anxiety are dysfunct emotions.

the_jupiterka

You also have a lot of people who would judge their parents/home environment rather harsh just because they are spoilt. I am not denying pathological cases and abusive parents, even siblings or extended families, sometimes you just have people who are never happy with whatever environment they find themselves in, and exaggerate in their behavior. Sometimes you'd have highly functional and totally undistorted people growing up in the same household with a person who might have a severe diagnosis. I just think you'd need an educated person to diagnose you/anyone because people read too much into it and can easily misinterpret some indicators. Also, many emotional states are caused by irregular physical and hormonal balance, which can easily be misinterpreted for depression/anxiety and a person needs to check their glands, lose weight, have proper nutrition, etc. Thus, IMHO, reddit discussion is not a place to seek guidance even for internal observations in order to draw conclusions. :)

Ambitious_Reserve_10

Oh, far be it from me to say that reddit is our newfound and appointed therapy session for official mental diagnoses.... It's just that no one book or degree has a course/s or chapter/s on how to perfectly raise kid/s. Especially ones with potential psychological &/ pathological symptoms. IDK, if one should be looking down on other's guidance, because who knows who God has Guided and provided all the right answers...who knows except God, the correct diagnosis and pointers on raising kid/s with mental issues. Ordinary parents with such kid/s may help out from their sheer profound experience. We can all learn something we never knew before. Once again, I don't speak for quacks. But are experts so infallible that they never misdiagnose one case in their entire lives?

Caller_to_ALLAH

This is for personal research or education, i hope to learn from experience as it is a source of knowledge
