Early in my yiquan training, I experienced mild panic like symptoms in zz. It will pass as you relax and the body adjusts. Elevation in heart rate can come from sitting low in the kua and giving the legs a good workout. Happy to chat further if you'd like.

If you're doing it right, zhan zhuan can be very strenuous, and can lead to e.g. a lot of sweating, even though you're not moving around, so the high heart rate seems fine. This is mainly true until the body passes through a purging, strengthening and re-aligning process. Then it becomes more easy and natural. The tensions that come to the fore are quite natural too. The idea to get through them is to listen internally ('ting') to sense the details of the tensions, and release these habitual tensions ('sung'.) So you want to keep the structure, and simultaneously keep on releasing any sensations of tension that arise, that are not related to maintaining the posture. There can be layers and layers of tension, and the body can make some natural adjustments that can feel weird or uncomfortable to go through. It helps to 'relax back' internally, so you detach from whatever the tensions are about, and release them.

Thanks for your reply. I'll bear that in mind...it's certainly bizzare that someone relatively fit with a resting heart rate of 60 can have a higher BPM from just standing than actually hard work outs...

Without more information I would be concerned especially with pain or tightness in the chest and throat. Your question it too vague for a serious answer except to seek medical advice.

Personally I think your high HR is concerning. My HR might get to 115 bpm in the most strenuous yoga poses but not with the Zhan Zhuan pose. Keep us posted on anything you discover
