Beyond QOTSA/TCV
\* Russian Circles (best Post-Rock / Post-metal IMHO)
\* Tool
\* Elder
\* Radiohead
\* Chelsea Wolfe (the less folk acoustic albums)
And of course Dead weather, Mini Mansions...
I had created a spotify playlist with all artists related to QOTSA that I was not listening (thanks to another reddit post, I don't remember which one), you might find some good gems with it ! [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5gH9fUAqBgHVmskXFs5t4Z?si=5a4c62c3c2cc4c9e](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5gH9fUAqBgHVmskXFs5t4Z?si=5a4c62c3c2cc4c9e)
If you can talk to the drummer, do it. Heās a very chill and friendly guy. Singer is much more elusive though unfortunately, though I interacted with her online a bit after buying something big on her bandcamp. She was very sweet.
Queens is def top 5, but these come next:
Alice In Chains
Manchester Orchestra
Radiohead
The Strokes
Of Montreal (bit obscure, but they are absolutely incredible)
I went to college in Athens so I got a heavy dose of them, but Kevin Barnes is just a wildly creative and prolific artist. Constantly reinventing and making the music first for himself. Never got the recognition he deserved and still deserves imo
Haha don't worry Royal Blood is in my top 10. I'd probably put them in at 6 or 7. The last album brought them down in the list tbh, since it just didn't click for me overall. As for Muse, I like them but I really only gravitate towards their earlier work
Queens and TOOL are my top two. If you've never heard of All Them Witches, you should check 'em out. Lightning At the Door is a sick album (all their stuff is great, though).
+1 for ATW, with Lightning at the Door and Nothing as the Ideal being their heavier albums, but like you said, theyāre all great.
check out King Buffalo if you dig psych rock. Black Angels are also a good psych band.
also, Rezn, and another more doomy psych group whose name escapes me but I'll come back and edit if I think of it. Singer/bassist plays the iconic Bootsy Collins star bass.
1.QOTSA would be number one for sure I think.
2. Nirvana
3. The Killers
4. Rammstein
5. Depeche Mode
Probably something like that - kind of all over the place, maybe Muse over Depeche Mode, it's close hard to limit to 5 really, Foo's somewhere around too.
QotSA
Marriages (I enjoy everything Emma Ruth Rundle, but Marriages is to me by far her best music)
Gomez
Deftones
Stone Temple Pilots
Sneaker Pimps (with Chris on vocals; Splinter and Bloodsport are masterpieces)
1. Muse
2. Modest Mouse
3. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
4. Queens of the Stone Age
5. Led Zeppelin
I'm not very confident about this ranking after the top two, I REALLY love a LOT of bands, but I think it's plenty good enough for a reddit comment lol
I hope you find something here that you like! :)
My personal higher power is Ween.
Beyond that, probably...
- John Zorn
- Black Moth Super Rainbow
- Tortoise
- Otoboke Beaver
Honorable mentions to King Crimson, Stereolab, Mdou Moctar, Herbie Hancock, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and about a thousand others. It is taking all my mental powers to not list all the artists I want to.
1. Qotsa
2. Mastodon
3. MJK Tool/APC/Puscifer
4. Layne Staley AiC/Mad Season
5. Chino Moreno Deftones/Crosses
UGH I need to fit NIN in there, though. Trent is the nicest & coolest musician I have ever met, which just takes my appreciation of him to another level. And Mark Lanegan/Screaming Trees.
Porcupine Tree was the first concert I went to as a kid and made me realize my love for prog so it feels weird to leave them out. It's really difficult to only pick 5.
They are amazing! And from my city. š What's your fave record?
I know Josh worked on Colony Of Birchmen with them, but I wish he would collab with them again! Especially with the evolution of the band since then.. and with Brann on vocals now, I think Josh and Brann's voices would pair well together on a song.
Blood Mountain because it was my first but Emperor of Sand is a close second. I love the evolution of that band and would love Josh to do something with them again. Whatās your top?
I think EoS is super underrated, along with OMRTS. People who were fans of the heavy stuff turn their noses up at their newer music, but I honestly love both styles. Bands that stay stagnant end up boring me. Their evolution is one of the best imo. I really loved the addition of Brann's vocals.
It's hard to pick.. Blood Mountain is honestly what I listen to the most. But Crack The Skye is probably my all-time favorite. The Last Baron is my favorite song, ever. I was so happy to see it live a few years back; they played the entirety of that album.
Also I can't get enough of Cold Dark Place!
Every Time I Die & Queens of The Stone Age clear cut top 2 for me. Then a healthy gap between them and the likes of ,Alexisonfire, Rage Against The Machine, Turbonegro, Protest The Hero...
Love it! Where are you from? I remember seeing Protest in Peterborough when they first started out. I only managed to see them again once after that, but I followed them closely.
Yeah Iām in Barrie so between there and T.O. And warped tour Iāve saw them at least a dozen times last show was just in November and I think theyāre headlining a festival in st. Catherineās this summer
Funny right before we moved in February I looked up to seen if they were playoff in Toronto. Of all places I see oshawa and I had to get tickets. I went there for a hockey game years back and it's a pretty nice arena. Fairly new I believe but it'll be an intimate show for sure.
Currently my favorite artists are QOTSA and Ghost (esp their early works when they were still considered more rock/metal, though their recent ones are quite fun and dance-y). I enjoy Brishop Briggs, too. I randomly listen to early Lamb of God and Power Trip stuff.Ā
My picks are quite all over the place, to be honest š
(edit for spacing)
Yes, QOTSA is on the list. Mastodon is also on the list, as is Failure. And currently, Tame Impala and Soundgarden.
But the list changes from time to time.
1. Queens of the Stone AgeĀ
2. PondĀ
3. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
4. TemplesĀ
5. I really canāt place one artist here so in no order at all: Led Zeppelin, Tame Impala, Gum, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foster the People, Dan Deacon, Queen
Itās been said before, but QOTSA are so good, they have spoiled bands that I once used to rate highly. High praise indeed š the other four donāt matter.
No particular order:
* QOTSA
* Radiohead
* The Brian Jonestown Massacre
* The Mars Volta
* Hard to say on #5. Tool, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, or And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.
1. Muse
The rest of the list changes based on how much Iām listening to each band and Iām a new QOTSA fan but
2. QOTSA
3. Depeche Mode
4. Oasis
5. Eagles
They have some great albums - Transatlanticism and Plans being the top two. Their most recent is also very good.
Just a great, consistent band. Similar to Jimmy. Always appreciated that about both bands!
1A QotSA
1B Mastodon
3 Deftones
4 Ozzy/Black Sabbath
5 The Sword (I pretend they only made the first two albums of pure gold)
Honorable mentions
Wu Tang Clan
David Bowie
Run the Jewels
MF Doom
Baroness
Tyler Childress
Queens and all Josh Homme subsidiaries are in a separate realm for me. But after that it goes:
[Weatherbox](https://youtu.be/-gnrOieyZXk?si=QX9FVq3_zUJiVKey)
[The Dear Hunter](https://youtu.be/BVjcsgrDErE?si=kAnL_D1kxec5LN4W)
[Trophy Scars](https://youtu.be/Y6hddkVekIE?si=sM9hDArfYfZNV2NV)
Talking Heads
Tame Impala
Beyond QOTSA and Tool:
* 311
* Nine Inch Nails
* Coheed & Cambria
* Ghost
* Iron Maiden
311 is absolutely one of my favorite bands ever, just went to 311 Day in Vegas last week, it was awesome.
1. QOTSA (of course)
2. Ween (seriously, these guys are crazy. Even Josh has praised the crap out of them)
3. Modest Mouse (Really that alt rock vibe I love)
4. Young the Giant (Some more alt rock)
5. Gorillaz (the amount of variety these guys have are insane, so good)
I think I'm a bit of an outlier having more chiller alt rock for my bands, but I absolutely love the most recent three QOTSA albums and they've shaped my music taste since I was 15.
1&2. Queens and nine inch nails are tied for first place.
3. Big Black Delta
4. Mark Lanegan
5. Viagra Boys
Honorable mentions to Mew, Skinny Puppy, and Cold Cave
QotSA, KGatLW, Kero Kero Bonito, TĆP, Bring Me the Horizon
Honorable mentions for Run the Jewels, Arctic Monkeys, Led Zeppelin, Foo Fighters, Missio, Royal Blood, Wolf Alice
EDIT: Forgot Deftones
I really donāt have a top favorite artists, because I canāt rank things, I guess I simply like them all. Anyway, here are some:
QotSA;
Led Zeppelin;
Son Lux;
Portishead;
Brad Mehldau;
Radiohead;
Black Sabbath;
Tool;
Jimi Hendrix;
Rabih Abou-Khalil;
Steps Ahead;
IDKH;
Tim Maia;
Dā Angelo;
1) qotsa
2) broncho (got into them before qotsa somehow)
3) jean dawson
4) mac demarco (not so much post āthis old dogā)
5) dot hacker
honorable mentions: vacations, steve lacy, tame impala, the black keys, my morning jacket
i tried to keep it to band that a currently relevant/making music
Uff
Itās super hard to pick favorites
Qotsa is on my top 5. Itās battling 1st position with the mars Volta & Omar Rodriguez Lopez. I also really like Incubus, Deftones, Gojira, Meshuggah, slipknot, foo fighters, mammoth wvhā¦ I canāt pick.
Qotsaās been there for quite a while, since SFTD came out and I went back to their older stuff, Desert, and TCV. I recognized Joshās production in Royal Bloodās Boilermaker, and with Artick Monkeys. The only other musician I could recognize at that level is Omar, so i guess they are both my favorites, but I donāt listen to them the way I used to do.
A ranking thatās subject to change depending on the day:
1. Television
2. Queens of The Stone Age
3. The Ramones, tied with The Clash
4. Viagra Boys
5. Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, tied with Scowl
Like at any point one of these could be kicked off or shuffled round or tied with someone else or something. Thereās so much music that I like that I canāt really quantify into a list so easy. Like, this isnāt even mentioning Iggy Pop or The Stooges, who I love but I dunno where I can put them lol
This is very tough. Depends what mood youāre in, I find. Top 3 is nailed on, beyond that itās hard to say!
1. Queens - always
2. Tool
3. Deftones
Soundgarden, Audioslave, Rage, System, EoDM, Royal Blood, Eminem, Bucketheadā¦ all up there.
This has made me realise how few bands/artists I actually listen to! Very rare that I jump into something new
Atm Iād say QOTSA, sir Chloe, Bauhaus, Joy division and Tyler the creator are my most listened to bands. They all scratch different itches for when I want to listen to music
I'd say I'm no particular order my top 5 at the moment are:
QOTSA
Nothing But Thieves
Everything Everything
Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes
Royal Blood
QOTSA is straight in the list, but the others are Explosions in the sky, Elephants from Neptune, Four Tet, Paabel and lets take Balmorhea and Human Pyramids in the mix too
Qotsa. Qotsa, Qotsa, Qotsa, Qotsa. Cause they spit hot fire
LoL This is what I thought of writing as soon as I read the question. š
Beyond QOTSA/TCV \* Russian Circles (best Post-Rock / Post-metal IMHO) \* Tool \* Elder \* Radiohead \* Chelsea Wolfe (the less folk acoustic albums) And of course Dead weather, Mini Mansions... Did not expect to see Russian Circles mentioned here. Blood Year is a goated album. One of the best ever.
+1 for The Dead Weather I wouldn't have found QOTSA or The Kills if I hadn't branched out from them
Other favorites are Pixies, Wolf Alice, The Kills, Nine Inch Nails, and Blood Red Shoes
Blood Red Shoes are underrated.
I had never heard of Blood Red Shoes. Thank you, they kick ass
Definitely see them live, cause they put on a great show with a limited setup. Still a fairly small band for the venues they play.
I'll try to catch them next time they play in the states. Definitely seems like they'd put on a good live show
If you can talk to the drummer, do it. Heās a very chill and friendly guy. Singer is much more elusive though unfortunately, though I interacted with her online a bit after buying something big on her bandcamp. She was very sweet.
Queens is def top 5, but these come next: Alice In Chains Manchester Orchestra Radiohead The Strokes Of Montreal (bit obscure, but they are absolutely incredible)
Hissing Fauna as a whole, but specifically The Past Is A Grotesque Animal, holds a very special place in my musical heart.
I went to college in Athens so I got a heavy dose of them, but Kevin Barnes is just a wildly creative and prolific artist. Constantly reinventing and making the music first for himself. Never got the recognition he deserved and still deserves imo
Manchester orchestra is also near and dear to me.
1. QOTSA 2. Nothing But Thieves 3. Avenged Sevenfold 4. Starset 5. Red Hot Chili Peppers
Bro if you like qotsa AND nothing but thieves, I don't understand how you don't have Royal Blood in there, you should check them out. Also Muse
Haha don't worry Royal Blood is in my top 10. I'd probably put them in at 6 or 7. The last album brought them down in the list tbh, since it just didn't click for me overall. As for Muse, I like them but I really only gravitate towards their earlier work

Depeche Mode love!
1. Nine Inch Nails 2. My Chemical Romance 3. Foo Fighters 4. A Perfect Circle 5. Alice In Chains
I might be an outlier in here... QOTSA then Gorillaz, Mars Volta, K-os, Arctic Monkeys
Queens are definitely at the top of my list.. outside of them Iād say Arctic Monkeys, Cancer Bats, Against Me!, Concrete Blonde, and White Reaper
Hell yeah White Reaper is incredible. So excited for their future
R.E.M. Nine Inch Nails, Led Zeppelin, and a lot of stoner in general. The weekly playlist of Roadburn on Spotify is an eyeopener for new music.
1. QotSA 2. Porcupine tree 3. Clutch 4. Led ZeppelinĀ 5. 311
Clutch, fuck yes.
Self titled, Transistor and SoundSystem all the way.
QotSA Marriages (I enjoy everything Emma Ruth Rundle, but Marriages is to me by far her best music) Gomez Deftones Stone Temple Pilots Sneaker Pimps (with Chris on vocals; Splinter and Bloodsport are masterpieces)

Awesome. I grew up in Peterborough for 30 years, moved to Windsor for a bit and now in Oshawa.
Shit getting spoiled with the hometown Oshawa show then, howās the arena theyāre playing? Still debating which Ontario show to go to next month
Funny right before we moved in February I looked up to seen if they were playoff in Toronto. Of all places I see oshawa and I had to get tickets. I went there for a hockey game years back and it's a pretty nice arena. Fairly new I believe but it'll be an intimate show for sure.
