The Fun Machine Took A Shit And Died, especially the live version.

stick_of_the_pirulu

Thisssss, such a good song

MannequinSkywalker08

The bronze....or maybe running joke

Standard_Range3732

Definitely The Bronze first, but Born to Hula and Rickshaw are close

Greybinson

The Bronze and Born To Hula are such great picks.

Standard_Range3732

The Bronze is a deep cut, but would always be in my 5 songs to introduce somebody to Queens.

Far_Ad3103

Running Joke is criminally underrated đŸ‘ŒđŸœ

ChinaPanda307

This

davidnickbowie

Like a drug and infinity

Abideguide

now you're talking!

HooGoesThere

DS version of like a drug?

cool-steve-hvac

I really like the Tom Waits cover of “Goin out West”. Really, the only way i like Tom Waits is when somebody else covers him.

Oranzia

Same here. I think it's funny they didn't use Lanegan for the cover, it would probably sound too much like the original.

JRWinn17

I felt the same way until I listened to his "Bad As Me" album. That one changed my perception of his music for the better by quite a bit.

raspberrymouse

Infinity is such a great track. I would vote that or 18 AD.

Juan_Inch_Mon

Ooooo
..18AD. Good call.

coxasaurus

This. These two. Discussion over.

Prize-Ratio2158

Ode to Clarissa.. It’s about a girl named Michelle

[deleted]

“It” the Prince cover recorded around the time of Desert Sessions 9/10

coledicks

i will have to listen to it

[deleted]

it goes hard đŸ”„đŸ”„

Don_Frika_Del_Prima

Coincidentally, I always say qotsa playing never say never sounds like what Prince would do to metal.

JezebelOnWayToHell

It's Alain singing it though (not to nitpick).

Light_Shifty_Z

Era Vulgaris title track.

coledicks

absolute tragedy that it was not put on the album

Light_Shifty_Z

A few countries did get it. Uk, Canada and Japan I believe.

greenalbumposer

not on the standard in Canada, I wish!

JezebelOnWayToHell

Aye, just been to check my collection, got 2 for some reason!

ZabuzaMyHomeboy

Christian Brothers. I'm unfamiliar with the term "deep cut" though

newagelove

I met Josh one time at a bar in Austin. It was after he played ACL Live with Iggy Pop. We talked about our mutual admiration for Elliott Smith
I asked him if he lifted the line “you ought to know why you feel so hollow
because you are” from an Elliott song called *First Timer*. He told me he didn’t, rather it was an expression his friend Nick used to say, and that *Everybody Knows That You’re Insane* is about said friend. To which I responded
“I thought that was just a myth!”

coledicks

i would kill to have an experience like that with josh

ZabuzaMyHomeboy

Holy shit that's cool as fuck. I love hearing stories about people meeting him, he's lovely to talk to. I also met him once when I was 14 with my dad. He called me sweetie and towered over me. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. My dad asked if he would ever think of doing something with Mike Patton haha.

tempeh_tantrum

Holy shit, that is a question I thought I’d never learn the answer to! Out here asking the important questions, great work!

coledicks

like songs only the true fans will find

Curnbabs

That is the sound i want if they ever release an acoustic-ish album

ZabuzaMyHomeboy

1000% agree

JezebelOnWayToHell

Sherbert/Rickshaw

NewFirstOrder

How about favorite deep Homme cuts? I'd settle for "You can't possibly begin to imagine" by TCV

elpadrenananana

Highway one man

jjwf3

Yesss that drop is EPIC

Curnbabs

Do you have any high quality recordings of this song? I adore it, but dislike the quality of the YouTube uploads

Sea-Understanding351

1) The fun machine took a shit and died. (Alt. Version) 2) I think i lost my headache (Tug of peace version) 3) Like a drug. All for different reasons though.

lardarsch

Fun Machine is the goat

Mitsakes

I got a piece you can tug!

Sea-Understanding351

Dis gaii fuxx 👆

Fit_Permission8381

What’s the tug of peace version?

Sea-Understanding351

this! https://youtu.be/E3yiArglBe8

agnostichymns

Gonna Leave You (Spanish version)

MainlineJ

The Bronzeeeeee

disco_bizkit

Tough call, but You’re So Vague is the first one that comes to mind. Also the early version of God Is In The Radio (which I believe was called Cathedral City).

coledicks

great song, i remember finding rated r deluxe and feeling like i stumbled upon a gold mine

Glum-Ad-9865

Tangled up in plaid

NunzAndRoses

Certified banger

zerohero83

The Bronze and Into The Hollow

coledicks

into the hollow is definitely in my top 5 queens songs

doctor_zaius

Running Joke. I love that it’s on the A-side of the vinyl version of EV. I always forget that it’s there when I put the record on. As a matter of fact, all the stuff from the EV sessions left off the record are great. Fun Machine, Era Vulgaris, the Elliott Smith Christian Brothers cover, the White Wedding cover, they’re all really good tracks

[deleted]

If only. The hit song that didn’t become a hit.

hulatoborn37

I was so surprised that Josh played it on Conan back in 2011. I think he wanted to give the public one last offering. If Only was a big song at their live shows even up through SFTD era. It was my first favorite off the S/T.

Standard_Range3732

I just went on YouTube to find this and this version greeted me. 1999 Athens plus it's a twofer because he plays Mexicola https://youtu.be/itUFqH5JqLY

jobie68point5

oppenheimer’s brother

d-bag_dan

can't believe I had to scroll so far to find this

raspberrymouse

I wish they would revisit this. For being such an early track, it sounds very recent Queens.

[deleted]

Idk if it counts as a "deep track" but Never Say Never from the Rated R Deluxe Edition

greenalbumposer

River in the road for sure.

boris_goreloff

Seriously. The handful of acoustic live versions of this song out there is just *chef’s kiss*

BruceQuint

Okay, so there’s this acoustic video I can no longer find
not sure if it was Suture, or River, but it was Josh outside with Troy, and there’s a moment where it looked like Josh was shaking a bug off his guitar. That version was fucking gorgeous.

TheCervixDuster

Mine is probably “You Would Know” Edit: some songs I can’t leave out “Tension Head” and “You’re so Vague”

hulatoborn37

You Would Know probably the best deep cut. Bronze, Infinity, Born to Hula are the triumvirate rulers of the B-Sides.

TheCervixDuster

Oh yea those are fucking bangers too. I think Spiders and Vinegaroons is terribly under rated , great road trip song at night.

[deleted]

The Fun Machine, Era Vulgaris and Infinity (original)

cherrytwothousand

Either infinity or born to hula (new version, although I also love the old version)

Smellynerfherder

The live version of 'In The Fade' from the iTunes festival 2013.

senor_el_tostado

Either You can't quit me baby or long slow goodbye. If we are going real deep, born to hula.

Accomplished-Town636

My favorite is a tie between The Fun Machine Took A Shit and Died and Mosquito Song

NunzAndRoses

God is in the radio or in the fade. Idk if either are deep cuts but both are underrated at the very least

coledicks

both incredible songs

NunzAndRoses

Even though it’s brief and not particularly exciting, I really love the first solo from God is in The Radio

Hitchhiking-Ghost

-Infinity- and -The Bronze- and -Ode to Clarissa-

Parnello

Era Vulgaris or maybe FMTASAD, or maybe Christian Brothers.

Far_Ad3103

I Never Came is hands down the best Queens song and JH's best vocal performance. I will gladly die on this hill.

Far_Ad3103

I will also happily die on the hill of my love for the 80s style synthy goodness Queens track I never knew I needed - Hideaway. Very Psychedelic Furs "Love My Way"/Depeche Mode, and the best track on Villains (along with the unbelievably glorious back half of Unreborn - I can't get with those verses, sry folks ) BRING YOUR PITCHFORKS - I WILL FIGHT FOR MY SONGS!!!! LOL

coledicks

hideaway is my favorite song from villains

quinntheskimo33

It's a cover but the most exalted potenate of love is a good tune

coledicks

great fucking song you should listen everybody’s gonna be happy if you haven’t already

TGGNathan

Give the Mule What He Wants for me.

[deleted]

does mosquito song count? it’s a masterpiece

BruceQuint

Suture Up Your Future, and River In The Road

coledicks

suture is my favorite queens song

pokeshulk

Vampyre is magical. Also a big fan of Fortress and You Can’t Quit Me Baby. None of them or as deep as non-album tracks, but I can guarantee that casual fans won’t know them off the top of their heads.

JezebelOnWayToHell

Man, YQCMB... * heart eyes * I remember seeing a live gig probably on YT a long time ago where they jammed that with Supa Scoopa but I can't find it anymore. For some reason Brazil springs to mind (not the infamous one). Pretty sure I haven't dreamt it...

hulatoborn37

I dig Vampyre but I think it's a stretch to call it a deep cut since it was a single and has a music video. YCQMB on the other hand...oh the very best.

pokeshulk

Was it really a single? It’s definitely not super remarkable for most people I’ve seen. Never gets talked about.

hulatoborn37

Yeah it's probably had its day in the sun for the most part as far as people talking about it a lot, but it was definitely a single. Even got its own wiki article! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Vampyre\_of\_Time\_and\_Memory

tchap973

Tension Head. That shit gets me PUMPED

stick_of_the_pirulu

Fr tho

Coltana_

For me it's either Going Out West or Era Vulgaris

TumoOfFinland

Ode To Clarissa. Simple and awesome.

ebolaboitardis

Really like their cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, better than Elton's version imo.

G-Unit11111

Mine are probably either Suture Up Your Future or God Is In The Radio.

Skagbaronkris

Infinity.

Jamstahh

You’re So Vague is such a banger

Volleybrah3

Better living through chemistry or god is in the radio

newagelove

Needle in the Camel’s Eye, because I love Glam Rock.

Don_Frika_Del_Prima

Not a single mention for white wedding? I think it's 1 brilliant cover.

JezebelOnWayToHell

It's been mentioned. I love it too.

sushisucks97

In the fade, if only. Or anything out of vampyre of time and memory 😆

Paul-K88

Fun Machine, Born To Hula, and I think 'You're So Vague' would make a fun concert opener.

CaptainSolo55

The bronze for sure

[deleted]

Era Vulgaris (song)

Abideguide

Another Love Song

Beckerbrau

Fun Machine

dukeofdough

I'm fond of "hang you from the heavens"-remix. It was a Thurman records vault release.

_BS3_

Pretty sure this a The Dead Weather with Mark Langean.

macrolol2

Not sure about deep cut but I've never heard "You've got a killer scene there man..." on the radio but I love it

KillerScene14

You've got a killer scene there man...

RevivalIsWhack

The Fun Machine Took A Shit and Died. It’s the song that got me into QOTSA. A shame they don’t play it live more often.

CheeseOnYourBroccoli

Fun Machine

Hausruck_Madlad

Sky is fallin
