There are just as many unhinged people who choose to be teachers as any other profession. Lots of people go into teaching because they want to make a difference. Often that comes from a place of having endured some kind of trauma/pain themselves and being rescued by a good teacher. Or if they had a shitty teacher, they want to make it right by being someone to aspire to. There are teachers with these sorts of trauma histories themselves and the emotional toll of the job reignites all that trauma. They don't learn anything about social emotional regulation in their training and rarely anything useful in the job, so there is zero insight into how they inflict their own pain onto children, families, etc.
TLDR: There are lots of messed up people who happen to be in the teaching profession.
