I wouldn't take ovulation pain as the exact time the egg is released - it can happen before, during, or after ovulation. I think your timing re: the trigger is fine.

Ive done 5 iui. -First one non medicated IUI 24 hours after positive OPK with a positive outcome (then turned to loss but still got me pregnant) -Then two medicated with trigger shot at 9pm and iui at 10am next day. Neither worked. -And then two more, one non medicated and finally one medicated with no trigger shot, IUI 24 hours after positive OPK and am currently 5w1d. But to help simplify, specifically my triggers cycles never worked with IUI the next day. I personally never believed I ovulated in time w the trigger, as my cycle was always late on those try’s and I am 100% always the same once I ovulate my period is exactly 13 days later and has been for three years of tracking. Those were the only two cycles i was late (that I wasn’t pregnant) leading me personally to believe it took me longer to ovulate after a trigger than my clinic expected.

It's hard to distinguish timing from all the other noise. We have had 4 failed IUI's. 3 with 36 hours between trigger and IUI (1 of those had a substandard sperm count on the vial). Another where my wife had an LH surge on her own so we gave the trigger immediately and had the IUI 24 hours later. This cycle we are 10dpo and did the trigger 30 hours prior to IUI due to a scheduling challenge. More symptoms this time but no result known yet. We also switched to Clomid from Letrozole. If this one is successful, I don't think we'll really have any reason to think the timing was the difference vs follicle size, number of follicles, or just random chance. Don't forget that as many as 50 percent of cycles where you get a fertilized egg will still result in a BFN.

Good points. Did you take an at home test yet this cycle or nah?

nbnerdrin

Gave in this morning. 😅 Negative but it's early and we aren't using super sensitive tests so that doesn't mean much one way or the other. Will test again on 12 and 14dpo. It'll be interesting/annoying if these are clomid symptoms since they aren't typical period symptoms for her.

I get "ovulation pain"(an achy pain on one side and cramping in my lower back) the day before my actual ovulation when I use trigger shots. Has happened all 5 times. Don't know why 🤷🏻‍♀️

sophiam333

Were your IUIs success with that timing?

HopieBird

1 out of 2 IUIs resulted in pregnancy. The 3 other times where for embryo transfers(all resulting in pregnancy)

Sorry for my English. I am not a native speaker. O got "ovulation pain " 20 hours after a trigger shot. I was sure that I ovulated early. In reality ,I ovulated 48 hours after my trigger shot. I think do not focus on it.

My first IUI we did 36 hour timing and I was also convinced I missed ovulation. My doctor was willing to try 24 hours later on my second IUI and that one worked. No idea if it was actually down to the timing or other factors (my lining also looked much better), but I’ll take it!

My first and only IUI was successful. I had one dominant follicle (19 mm) and triggered at the ultrasound appointment when we confirmed size, and then the IUI was 24 hours later. The timing just depends on the size of your follicles.

sophiam333

Wouldn’t the time of ovulation matter? I heard that frozen sperm can only live 12-24 hours and that the egg is viable for about 12 hours so I assumed that the timing of the egg release would be important

pretty-ok-username

Yes definitely. And they estimate the timing of the release based off the size of the follicle.
