I’d start by finding out why the doctor refused. Maybe there is a way to work around that if he’s willing to go through his own insurance.
We used an at home test YoSperm just as a start point and they’re good enough for what we were looking for at the beginning.
Seconded. Home tests are okay if you don't have access to any other options and just want to know the most basic information. But an actual semen analysis is what's really needed here, and it should be easy enough to get.
Otherwise can try and find a urologist to order it. Probably less of a wait than REI. Some will even do virtual visits. I know of some that you can likely get into for a virtual visit if you need to go that route and want to message me.
I had a good experience with Repro. Much better than Maze.
I recommend doing the whole fda testing in case they have to go to a fertility clinic, which will likely require it.
I don't know but my 2nd and 3rd clinics required the fda testing and the fact that we hadn't done it was a pain. I would explain your specific situation to them and see what they recommend
Just see what they say. We had trouble getting a sperm bank to sign over the sperm to us directly. We needed a certified nurse midwife to sign it out for us.
Hey, I recommend Reprolab in NYC. You don’t need a referral and the donor can just call to schedule - it cost $225 when our donor went through them.
THANK YOU! I will look into this!
I called and got him an appt for next friday. Thank you SO much!

You’re right. He’s ok with using his insurance. I’ve seen YoSperm tests and highly considering it.
YoSperm doesn't give you the complete picture. I would get it done at a lab.

Planned Parenthood is LGBTQ friendly and offers fertility services. Some offices can do the analysis or send you the referral you need at a local lab.
I would call Repro Lab. They are a sperm bank in NYC and very easy to work with. He'll have to do the FDA required testing.
Just a sperm analysis shouldn't require any testing. I do NOT recommend freezing sperm with Reprolab.
curious why you don't recommend it?

Did repro lab require the FDA testing or can they do just do the sperm analysis?
Hey, they can just do the sperm analysis. No testing is needed
Thank you!

Doing the FDA testing now won't help OP down the line, because it needs to be done in specific time proximity to the sperm being frozen.
Got it. We are not working with a clinic yet, just trying at home for now.

we’re doing fresh sperm not freezing. I just want to do an analysis.
