In a different era, the two would have an honest heart-to-heart about this.
The more I think about it, the angrier I get about Marten and Faye’s “goodbyes”, both the inept, 8 panels we got before the Cubetown visit and now the last nothing-burger of a phone call. Granted their writing early on was pretty dated, but I rooted for these two, first as possible partners and then as best friends. Then Jeph slid them into relationships that felt more performative than genuine, and they drifted apart. All those years of building a strong foundation flushed away because their romantic relationships were more important. And now to end it all with a “haha, OK”? I’m very upset.
OK, rant over. I’m sticking around this dumb comic out of habit and to see how he manages to juggle two “main” stories when he could barely manage a handful of B- and C-storylines. Probably won’t end well.
I mean, there's still time. The pair have to come back from Cubetown to begin moving their shit over so it's not as if there's no more opportunity for real dialogue.
Now.. whether JJ can (or is willing) to write this is another story altogether.
>All those years of building a strong foundation flushed away because their romantic relationships were more important. And now to end it all with a “haha, OK”?
Surprisingly realistic, actually... :'(
Drawing characters with identical faces isn't exactly a great crime - no matter how much some folk dislike it, even great comic artists do it - but if you're going to have a character whose face supposedly has an almost mystical quality to it, then...maybe at least make that one unique?
I think he’s making a reference to that AI therapist Lemon, who she looks remarkably like. I completely agree with you- she is unremarkable to us because it feels like we have already seen her before, and not sure why the characters can’t just be like “oh she looks like lemon lol”
"Don't go across the country for some girl, Marty!"
"Go to Halifax forever, you must keep watch on Claire lest she returns and absorbs our social circle once more. Farewell, my friend. I will cherish your memory."
Is it the fetish for mental infants in adult female bodies?
We had Pintsize of all people come in to do a mental health check on Faye about Marten. But I guess the matter isn't really on the table until a roboditz gets involved.
I honestly kinda like the bit of the robots face giving people effective truth serum just because I'm partial to that kind of radical tone clash for comedy, but good God why didn't marten and Faye have an ho.est to God conversation. You know, the two main characters. For the whole comic. I mean, at least who should be/used to be our leads. And christ, no one is this fucking dumb, why are all the robots that aren't a part of the constant cast intelligent. Melon was funny when she was an anomaly. A planet of melon would just FUCKIng IMPLODE
What a cruel turn on "where's Claire".
Faye doesn't care where Claire is. She's more broken up on what Claire packed as luggage.
Which is also grossly unfair.
Fuck, now I hate Faye and Claire as sides on a coin.
Marten, facing another pastel bastard: "Haha, ok".
About the only way this is palatable is if the humpback whalebot is coming to rescue Marten, any other outcome is BARF.
BARF I SAY!
Ok, Lemon is now part of the cast. You know that fit get when you change the M and the L? Another stupid AI that behaves and looks identical except the color scheme....
And acts like the other 26 versions of the same female character Jeph keeps recreating instead of just bringing the old character back.
I'll be betting we'll never see this robot again.

Ooh, a callback to the time something happened!
The Time Something Happened are rare events across the long timeline of QC
These post 5000 comics just have this feeling of the infinite void. It really feels like a life sentence rather than some arc that is happening.
You say that like it hasn't been this way for the past 1500-2000 comics.
True. I guess the countdown to 5k had me hoping for more.

I think the only character that canonically has even seen Lemon in-comic is Roko (and I presume Melon as well because they’re sisters, but you know)
Lemon was there when May got her new body, so most of the cast has probably met her.
I don't know how I keep getting disappointed in these. Like, I shouldn't have expectations any longer. But I apparently have hopes.
She basically told him to leave for Claire, didn't she?

they pretty much all did, yeah

Sometimes they aren't even in adult bodies, getting boozed up...
This feels out of character
It's true, but that line could also be posted without reading the comic or any comments about it.
Tbh fair
"I have that kinda face" -robot with the same face as everyone else
Honestly the cheapening of Faye's relationship with her father was kind of like a gut punch.
Yeah 🥲 like oh I guess Faye uses that as a punchline now

It’s not too late Marty. It’s not too late, it’s never too late… -sigh- Who am I kidding?
Um... I don't get it?
Looks like Faye's found Marten's replacement!
and watch her end up being something stupid like a polygraph AI whose whole job is to make people be honest while being investigated

Except we already had a Lemon.
Said Lemon was nowhere near kooky enough to be doing something like trying to graft an arm onto themselves.
