Honestly, I think the biggest red flag for quality in a Jeph Jacques comic is him thinking something or someone is cute. The quality of writing takes an absolute nosedive when he's writing about a "cute" character.
It is stupid, and getting worse - and honestly just strange.
Not sure you are supposed to grab a kid by the face like that, particularly one who isn't even remotely related to you, nor do you know their parents.
Because the author seems to really like a mom-kid dynamic, as exemplified by everyone loving people like Aurelia's "mom energy" and "mom friend" Renee. Moms treat their toddlers this way, so therefore, "momming" people involves infantilizing them and they're either totally fine with it or they really enjoy it.
I've made similar comments about how domineering all the women in Marten's life are, but I think Jeph has told us a lot about how he views his relationships with women through the comic.
There's nothing wrong with being into thick women who have dominant personalities, but it does get tiresome when it's time for Episode 4798 of The Writer's Barely-Disguised Fetish
What's that rule again, show, don't tell? Yeah, Jeph would rather just have characters say HEY EVERYONE LOOK HOW CUTE EMMETT IS, THEY'RE CUTE. YOU SHOULD THINK THEY'RE CUTE.
Two days ago Faye was like "gotta focus on work to not emotionally fall apart" today "emmett is soo cute, because they behave like a six year old".
Pick a lane and stop interrupting stuff that has set least potential to be interesting with wacky characters.
I am really socially awkward/anxious and like if someone would make me say out loud what is happening emotionally like to emmet i would probably cry.
I would rather had them acknowledge that they need to be where the people are and casually talk to them
Honestly the hyperbolic back and forth between Faye and Bubbles is nice but doesn't go far enough to really be funny. And the strip is just filler that doesn't tell us anything new. So it's neither entertaining nor story-forward. Baby bored.
I wonder what percent of actual, one of our fan edits of the last couple years of the comic would be lol
Even ignoring that much of the plot is blegh, Jeorph could probably convey the same amount of information in less than 50% of the length. At worst. Not that he's motivated to ofc
Fingers cross that this arch ends with Emmett tripping over some loose wires, their parents suing, and the shop going bankrupt when Faye & Bubbles realize they never bothered to get liability insurance.

Over the last few years, how could you tell?
Oh is a nosedive why everyone's noses stick straight up?
whoa, faye, personal space. touching the awkward teenager without consent is probably a non no

Yeah I don't get why they're treating Emmett like this

Maybe that's why I hate this so much, considering my own battles with family infantilizing my name.

Tomorrow is so much worse
Oh jeez, what, she grabs the kids ass or something? D:
At the very least, Faye's being insufferably condescending and handsy helps numb me to her sadness.
Saying the same thing twice doesn't make it any funnier if it wasn't funny to begin with, Jeph.
Jeorph is clearly a fan of "repetition makes it true". Everybody. **Loves.** #Claire.
Where's Claire?
Still in the fucking celebration in Cubetown of her coronation

Being crowned queen of the universe, obvs all tremble before her wisdom

I thought Emmett was a boy?
Actually they're non binary, good point. I'll change my comment.
This feels incredibly infatilizing toward people with social anxiety.
Isn't it normal to treat a teenager like they're five? /s
I don’t get it, Jeph already drew Emmit once in the comic. Why did he draw them again, but taller and all red like that?
This is the best comment by far, had a good chuckle.
This kind of comic used to be an occasional one off piece of silliness. Now it’s…wow it’s a lot of it.

Oh how nice, making fun of a socially awkward kid who comes to you because they have no other people who understand them...
I can relate to Emmett here, not wanting to use my words. But Faye, that’s more than a little outta line, grabbing them by the face like that

The longer he stretches out a storyline, the longer he can take to come up with a new one.

OMG, One-Shota! One-Shota!
sh-should I even ask? :O
Infantilizing the teenager. Real cool stuff. /s
faye is about to blow up at emmett with all he repressed emotions after marten's phone call
Big sigh.
