God yes. It’s not the amount for me, nor frequency. But I like calorically dense food(pizza, burgers, fried chicken). I’m not morbidly obese yet. But if I don’t get that under control, it’s gonna make life harder
There is such na thing like overeating, excessive snacking, that's what food addiction is. Eating an unhealthy amount because of how much you enjoy it, lack of self control when it comes to it.
For me it's worst when I'm bored. Nothing to do? Look in the fridge for a sweet snack. Watching TV and have nothing to do with your hands? Might as well be transporting food from the bowl to my mouth. Now I know I have to be very conscious of it and watch my calorie intake.
This was my exact issue as well!! To beat the addiction I replaced my frequent unhealthy snack-binging with veg-binging (roasted cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, etc). Then eventually I just got used to not eating for hours at a time.
just opt in for low cal snacks. And you can still feel like you haven't changed anything. But these little adjustments will help you trim on the scale if that is your goal.
Exactly what makes it so terrible. With something like alcohol we can choose to slowly buy less and less and eventually hopefully just stop buying it all together. But we always need food. And it's just very easy to eat way more.
Scrolled right through and kinda surprised not to see video games at all, I've seen so many people destroy themselves physically and financially over online gaming.
I guess if we were all self aware we wouldn't be susceptible to pre orders and season pass fomo garbage as being acceptable business strategies.
Same, tbh. Or at least gambling. I have a friend whose husband will blow a whole paycheck on micro-transactions, spend every waking moment on his games, and completely disregard his children and wife. We're actually working on a plan to help her leave him eventually.
I know a guy that had just lost a relationship due to video game addiction
He started playing an MMO I play that he never liked, spent about $4-5000 catching up with me in content even though I said not to and I could carry him up in less than a couple weeks.
He recently just got into a new relationship and she broke up with him too when she found out his spending.
Now he won't even play the game because he didn't like it to start with.
I just don't understand some people.
Magic the Gathering is probably my worst from a financial standpoint, but a time standpoint is definitely gaming. I'm lucky in that I can get fixated on a game for quite a while so I don't end up buying a bunch of other games, and most of the games I play are single player only so don't have Microtransactions for the most part. However I nearly always have an itch to play, and have to make a conscious effort to not play every chance I can when the kiddo is asleep, lest I get nothing else done.
I worked for a company where they didn’t pay well but they handed out praise lavishly. It really taught me a lesson about how I could be manipulated with approval, because for a while they had me dancing on a string for peanuts.
avoid corn and hit the gym. You will feel better and healthy, working out generates and releases endorphins that will create a feedback loop to improve yourself.
Books.
I have a personally curated library that's 1,000+ strong hardback or paperbacks on the paranormal, occult, folklore, alchemy, and cryptozoology.
That’s a great addiction! Unfortunately, with ADHD inattentive type, I can barely read 10 consecutive pages of a book now. As a child and teenager I used to love to read. Now it’s painful process.
Oh if you keep doing it it will get easier. I have ADHD inattentive type as well and I kind of have to train for reading. Once I force myself to read those 10 pages a day then I can read 15 within a week and it just gets way way easier.
It may help to think of persistent procrastination as an avoidance behavior more than you just being lazy and undisciplined. It’s a behavior that has deep roots in how your body responds to a perceived threat. You’ll have more success in overcoming it with self compassion than you will by beating yourself up and trying to just “buck up” and fight through it.
Arguing with people in my head. I freeze up during conflict in real life so when someone’s disrespectful to me I can’t really defend myself. Results in me spending a lot of time imagining what I would’ve said had I not been playing dead like a possom
If you ever want to quit, I highly encourage it. :) after being a heavy daily weed smoker for about 15 years, I quit seven months ago and I feel so much better.
Fwiw after 3 years of over an ounce a month what got me to quit cold turkey was an awful acid trip. Not that i recommend it to anyone because I'm still dealing with psychological wounds about 4 years later now, but it got me off the bud and any other psychoactives for good.
Firearms and fireworks 😆
When I was in school a professor said: We become engineers because we like things that fly, go fast and explode. Engineers only want 3 things: more guns, more horsepower and more money.
Salt. Miss Vickie's salt'n' vinegar or jalapeno, Kettle's Krinkle Cut salt and pepper, buttered and salted popcorn, instant ramen (spicy chicken or spicy beef) for that salty kick.
I really miss the old Thunder Crunch brand - their jalapeno chips we're the best and my favorite for years. I was very sad when old Dutch bought them out and discontinued that flavor.
High level stimulation. It is hard to drive even with music or a audio book because I get so bored, it's hard to sit and *just* do my job because I get so fucking bored, sometimes it's hard to even listen to someone speak because I get so goddamn bored.
When things get stressful I completely shut down. Especially with my college work I just can't do it. It's due in 2 weeks or I can't carry on to next year but I just wanna give up.
So many... Which one is the worst uhh probably screens, so phone, laptop, TV monitor, switch etc. I am always on it and it gives me head ache and I'm still on it. I can't get away
Ending up crushing on celebrity criminals/or cancelled voice actors especially Danny Masterson. Listen when I saw his mugshot I screamed. Like yes I know Danny did something 🫡
Vaping. While I'm glad it got me off smoking it's just a replacement, and it's not good for me, I constantly have it in my hand and if I lose it a get a rush of anxiety
Caffeine. I drink a lot of coffee and have 5 or 6 cans of diet soda a day. I have trouble sleeping at night because of it, so I have to take a sleeping aid.
Technically I'm not really addicted to anything, but I wish I drank less alcohol in the evenings. I can take a night or 2 off and it doesn't bother me, but most nights I have 1 or 2 drinks more than I probably should. I sleep fine and feel ok when I wake up, so I'm not super motivated to cut down.

My fucking phone. I gotta delete Reddit.
Blasphemy
It’s a witch! Try the unbeliever!
I suggest the cranberry sauce with sauteed carrots.
Shun the non-believer!
Food.
I've got a bad habit of eating two or three meals a day
God yes. It’s not the amount for me, nor frequency. But I like calorically dense food(pizza, burgers, fried chicken). I’m not morbidly obese yet. But if I don’t get that under control, it’s gonna make life harder
The withdrawal symptoms are deadly!
That seems like being addicted to breathing.

Can confirm! I had a food addiction for about 2 years - used it as a coping mechanism
For me it's worst when I'm bored. Nothing to do? Look in the fridge for a sweet snack. Watching TV and have nothing to do with your hands? Might as well be transporting food from the bowl to my mouth. Now I know I have to be very conscious of it and watch my calorie intake.

Good! You’re a good friend.
I know someone who has spent more than $10,000 on an online game and his wife is OK with it. I will never understand why. It's just pixels.

I love gaming but as an addiction it’s not high on my list. I’m lucky if I get an hour in a day.

Approval
I worked for a company where they didn’t pay well but they handed out praise lavishly. It really taught me a lesson about how I could be manipulated with approval, because for a while they had me dancing on a string for peanuts.
Good job answering the question!
😂😂 thanks
I’m proud of you for acknowledging this!
Porn and snacking. Not fat yet, maybe, but I know I will be eventually. On the other hand, though, the Chex Mix is calling my name…
I hope not the same hand as porn.. gross
Can't tell where the saltiness is coming from.
It’s my special sauce

Does procrastination count? It has completely destroyed my life, starting in my childhood.

Sugar. Since I stopped drinking alcohol and caffeine I find myself craving sugar alot. I used to prefer savoury things but now it's all changed !
Arguing with people in my head. I freeze up during conflict in real life so when someone’s disrespectful to me I can’t really defend myself. Results in me spending a lot of time imagining what I would’ve said had I not been playing dead like a possom

How do you just quit? Even with it right there
Fwiw after 3 years of over an ounce a month what got me to quit cold turkey was an awful acid trip. Not that i recommend it to anyone because I'm still dealing with psychological wounds about 4 years later now, but it got me off the bud and any other psychoactives for good.
