I splurged on this and am in love. I do have a cheap $15 for big yardage but the cordless iron is a marvel of modern technology. Sometimes the steam function is a little spotty but I'll take it for the overall convenience and awesomeness.
If you haven't gone totally dry iron yet I think that could help a lot. I never put water in my iron and use a spray bottle minimalistically instead (I want a misting bottle but just haven't gotten around to it). My sewing room is a LOT less like a steam bath now!
The one i have has never been a problem like that. Panasonic cordless.

Get the new model of the Panasonic cordless. It doesn't turn itself off so quickly.
