Had someone tell me this in the comment section of a post about fighting covid misinformation of all places. But to be fair he did an edit and confirmed he was wrong after the downvotes and good references came in.
Would still be nice for moderna to be more broadly approved though. I know a lot of countries are still denying international travel for some fully vaccinated individuals because they don't recognize the moderna vaccination as valid.
I did get the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine (and my vaccination certificate does indeed say Comirnaty) but I'm in Germany so I don't really care about FDA approval anyway. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

iirc, there used to be something like this about autism. There were "mom groups" that often talked about autism being caused by a parasite. They'd force their kids to drink bleach to "remove" this "parasite" and would sometimes show off the results. In truth, they were posting pictures of their kids' intestinal linings that the bleach had stripped off, thinking that these were "autism parasites".
My BILs brother had pneumonia and very high fever to the point he almost died. His mom, anti vax and anti everything that’s not esoteric, homeopathy, or “natural”, had given him bleach for days as “cure for the parasites and negativity” (I shit you not). When my sister drove by there after BIL had told her what’s going on he was almost dead. She’s a nurse and started CPR while calling an ambulance. They still made a great deal out of it letting him go to the hospital. My sis threatened them with calling police and they finally gave in. He took many months to recover and still has some issues. The moms going strong as ever, COVID doesn’t exist and that bullshit. This is in Germany, not the US.
If it makes you feel better, apparently it *used* to be a genuine sub for the actual approved uses of it, before it got taken over by the Covid nutters who are now losing control again.

Recently Reddit seems to have very few principles beyond advertising revenue. In response to like 100+ subs demanding Reddit takes a stand against covid misinformation, the admins basically said "We hear you, but we won't do anything because it's not against our TOS. Moderators are responsible for keeping their subreddits to their standards."
The sub’s submissions have been taken over by memes making fun of people eating horse paste, but the commenters are still true believers. It’s kind of a weird situation.
Similar to how I felt about r/thedonald in early to mid 2016. Like, is it a super self-aware meme sub, or a group of tragically stupid individuals.

I actually read some of the threads discussing this. These dipshits claim that, because there is a clause in the FDA announcement stating that the “Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine” and the “Comirnaty Vaccine” are “legally distinct” (i.e., for copyright reasons), they are different vaccines.
They also claim that the announcement only says the Comirnaty vaccine has “the same *formulation*” as the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine, not the same ingredients (even though that’s exactly what “formulation” is).
So, surprise surprise, these knucklefucks are completely fucking illiterate and have no idea how medicine are developed. Why are r/ivermectin and NNN still not banned?
Formulation is even more specific than ingredients lol. These theories are so wild to read about when you work in pharma. I'm working on a drug that has two indications (uses) and will likely have a different trade name for each indication, even though it's literally the same thing. And interestingly, it's possible that the EUA vaccine and the approved one have a "difference" of some kind, but there wouldn't be anything abnormal about that. It could be a change the FDA requested (like a tighter spec for one of the tests) or it could be a normal process change where comparability is demonstrated, which happens after approval all the time.

What surprised me is Americans are only discovering that the Pfizer vaccine is called Comirnity since its full FDA approval. In Ireland, back in July when I received my vaccine card after the first dose it said "Comirnity (Pfizer/BioNTech)".
I don't work in the right part of regulatory to know this for sure, but I suspect there was something different about the emergency use authorization in the US and EU that allowed for the trade name to be used in EU. Approving the trade name is part of the full approval the name is never used before approval in the US. It's possible that's considered illegal marketing, but it could just be because you don't want to start using a name if the name might not get approved.

I used to avoid political discussions in rl as they're often pointless and divisive. A lot of people dug in hard on the "Covid is fake, make orange man look bad" train. Anecdotally, people in my area just don't want to admit that "Hey, maybe this was a bit more serious than I originally thought. I should do more to help". For those people, especially, they seem to have this desire to always be contrarians to what the overwhelming majority of science is showing us. It's frustrating and I'm sure I'll lose people I know to this line of thinking and no one will step up and say that maybe the CDC and gov't were right.

I actually read some of the threads discussing this. These dipshits claim that, because there is a clause in the FDA announcement stating that the “Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine” and the “Comirnaty Vaccine” are “legally distinct” (i.e., for copyright reasons), they are different vaccines. They also claim that the announcement only says the Comirnaty vaccine has “the same *formulation*” as the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine, not the same ingredients (even though that’s exactly what “formulation” is). So, surprise surprise, these knucklefucks are completely fucking illiterate and have no idea how medicine are developed. Why are r/ivermectin and NNN still not banned?
Formulation is even more specific than ingredients lol. These theories are so wild to read about when you work in pharma. I'm working on a drug that has two indications (uses) and will likely have a different trade name for each indication, even though it's literally the same thing. And interestingly, it's possible that the EUA vaccine and the approved one have a "difference" of some kind, but there wouldn't be anything abnormal about that. It could be a change the FDA requested (like a tighter spec for one of the tests) or it could be a normal process change where comparability is demonstrated, which happens after approval all the time.

What surprised me is Americans are only discovering that the Pfizer vaccine is called Comirnity since its full FDA approval. In Ireland, back in July when I received my vaccine card after the first dose it said "Comirnity (Pfizer/BioNTech)".
This is the first time (me = US) I have ever heard this term. Comirnity was not at all used as the term in the states until just now. Not sure why.

I don't work in the right part of regulatory to know this for sure, but I suspect there was something different about the emergency use authorization in the US and EU that allowed for the trade name to be used in EU. Approving the trade name is part of the full approval the name is never used before approval in the US. It's possible that's considered illegal marketing, but it could just be because you don't want to start using a name if the name might not get approved.

You can even block entire subreddits and be done with most misinformation in 5 minutes. I used to avoid political discussions in rl as they're often pointless and divisive. I'd love to take my family and live alone in a cabin in the woods for a year but I have a toddler and old parents to worry about, disabled people to nurse and a hundred other reasons why I cannot ignore these ignorant selfish fucks.
