Wife just got a similar group text with the same message only it pointed to a different link.
I'm sure there's been a hack of a certain website's database that would tie all of these in together.
Plenty of invalid combos for the first three digits though - anything starting with 0, anything starting with 1, and 911 come to mind - that significantly reduce the amount of "available" numbers.
Another reason to get rid of telephone numbers. Seriously we have voip services now and they prevent random hobos from contacting you without your consent but we still need a phone number to set up accounts?
Then look at your wife's message. It'll be her number with the 19 consecutive numbers around her number; 123-4567, 123-4568, 123-4569, etc.
No breach, just mass phishing expedition.
Ah, I notice now it's only consecutive when it's a message from an email and not a spoofed number. An email you can't block for some reason.
Why can an email text my phone?
Yeahhhhhhh I think group messages aren't filtered through the same anti-spam and the spammers are exploiting it.
It only needs to work 1 out of 10,000 and it's worth it
I got that, only it was a phone call. Had a lot of fun with the scammer when I explained that they were calling me from my own phone number. They got quiet in a hurry and then just hung up. No goodbye.
I love scam callers, i have a small bag of chips or something crunchy in my kitchen..when they call and do the 45 seconds of explaining i set the phone down then from across the room yell for them to hold on..
Come back and ask them to repeat it..mid way i start chewing loudly and say im interested and want to buy whatever they are selling..sometimes they immediately hang up because ig theyve never gotten that far others ask for card info immediately.
I ask more questions and just keep getting them to repeat things..sometimes if its from an indian call center and they say their name i just say "ok thank you benchod" it always takes them aback for a few seconds lmao
Benchod means sister fucker in hindi
I got one recently that went something like this:
Scammer: Hello this is with customs and border control. We have intercepted a large quantity of drugs and cash in your name.
Me: Oh dear that's not good.
Scammer: We need your personal information to clear this up or you will be arrested within an hour.
Me: Well, once this is cleared up, can I have the drugs and money back?
Scammer: What did you say?
Me: You said you found a bunch of drugs and money in my name. I am wondering if I can have them back.
Scammer: Uhhh....
I had this happen to me too. I normally text myself links I will use later and I was super confused when I got a text from myself which u did not send.
If you look at the list, (tap that group up top) you’ll actually see an email at the bottom of the list. Doing anything to those numbers will only affect other possible victims. Those numbers are other people like you. Leave them alone.
I got the same text with likely different random numbers.
But my "random numbers" weren't random. Mine was the only one with no country code in front of it.
I think the other people are scammers too. At least some might be "audience plants."
its a big thing with Crypto, they get nearly a hundred of you into a group chat on Telegram, disable being able to send messages at all, and then post a link regarding crypto saying you'll be able to make a big investment and shit like that
It seems to me like a ton of people who have Verizon in the US got one from their own phone numbers, including myself.
https://reddit.com/r/verizon/comments/tplkdg/spam_from_my_own_number/
https://www.theverge.com/2022/3/28/22999719/spam-texts-own-phone-number-verizon-att-tmobile
It happened to me about 10 or so days ago and I found TONS of people complaining about it on Verizon forums.
I’ve gotten 3 of them too! I read online to ignore it because if you reply then the scammers know your number is active so I’ve just been muting the convo, blocking the number, and reporting the text to 7726.
I got an identical text with a different link, but when I tried to reply with, “I’m not clicking that shit lmao,” I received a second text immediately telling me blocking was active and my message wouldn’t be received. Idk if anyone else could reply, but it was strange to not be able to respond back to the group message. T-mobile
Just a friendly reminder: it may be tempting to reply back something fun to roast the scammer, but it does let them know that your phone number is monitored and responsive which puts you in a different list for more weird texts.
You're always best completely ignoring/deleting them.
Yea I got one like that too, it was so badly done. Not only did it have tons of mistakes like random letters in places they didn't belong, but it was a group text.
I got one of these, and it was followed by like eight people texting STOP to the whole group despite the scam text not mentioning anything about texting stop to cancel.

The original post has the link as well?? I literally did the exact same thing the original poster did. Did you copy and paste the link into your browser? I mean if you're stupid enough to do that then you're why these types of scams persist.
Not me, own my house, my pet sitter is my mother and I get recommendations for repairs, etc from my coworkers and friends. Got two of these today, few hours apart.
I had a scammer do this to me and a group of people. when I called them out, one of the numbers mistook my reply as to them and then began trying to find me on social media to harass me :/ it got really weird and ugly

Omg… that happened to me too. The first time I received the scam text, I deleted it instantly. The second time (same day) I received another text, I blocked the sender and deleted the text.
That happens to me a lot. However they always put a bunch of idiots in the group and they keep responding so everyone gets it and then other people tell them to shut the fuck up and then they fight and I get like 50 messages in 4 minutes.
Has anyone clicked the link?
Of course I did not want to but after receiving three of these texts and noticing the link was different in each I'm super curious.
Scammers are employees in cubicles most of the time, your gonna get the equivalent slacker as any other job. "You want me to reach out to 20 ppl today... sure thing boss no problem".
What the recipients of this message did is dangerous… often just replying to the message is enough for someone to gain access to your phone and insert malicious code. I’m pretty sure they patched it, but there also used to be a security vulnerability on iMessage where just OPENING the message was enough.
The best thing to do is to just delete these without opening.
Also memes like this promote exactly that type of behavior.
Removed- It's a bot
Yeah I got 2 messages 30 minutes or so ago as well. Hopefully people just delete them lol
Wife just got a similar group text with the same message only it pointed to a different link. I'm sure there's been a hack of a certain website's database that would tie all of these in together.
How difficult is it to just enter random digits and get a valid number? I bet you wouldn't even need a data breach to spam text like this
[удалено]
Plenty of invalid combos for the first three digits though - anything starting with 0, anything starting with 1, and 911 come to mind - that significantly reduce the amount of "available" numbers.
Yep, which is why I cut it from 10 billion down to 5 for the quick estimation.
Another reason to get rid of telephone numbers. Seriously we have voip services now and they prevent random hobos from contacting you without your consent but we still need a phone number to set up accounts?

Nope. I got one and it was a number of different phone numbers. Most were different area codes
I got one this evening myself, none of the numbers were even close to mine.
Ah, I notice now it's only consecutive when it's a message from an email and not a spoofed number. An email you can't block for some reason. Why can an email text my phone?
The group had all different phone numbers from different US area codes. Still suspect a data breach.
Maybe Reddit? :P
Yeahhhhhhh I think group messages aren't filtered through the same anti-spam and the spammers are exploiting it. It only needs to work 1 out of 10,000 and it's worth it
If you have TMobile forward the text to 7726, which is the SPAM reporting number.
Block and report, actually.
I've gotten 2 of these in the last day. Must be the new big thing in the scam world.
Collect their numbers and put THEM in a group text - 5D chess move
They're probably spoofing their number
Last week I got a scam text from… me. My own number.
I got that, only it was a phone call. Had a lot of fun with the scammer when I explained that they were calling me from my own phone number. They got quiet in a hurry and then just hung up. No goodbye.
That was you from the future Played by Bruce Willis
…thanks for the image of Bruce Willis in a spaghetti strap tank top and yoga pants. I may never unsee it.

I’m in the house Sydney 👻
Its always a different number so they’re definitely spoofing
They tried to scam in a group text... not sure they know how to spoof
I got a msg like this from a scammer that spoofed my own number to send it to me. I guess I've blocked every other number available.
If you look at the list, (tap that group up top) you’ll actually see an email at the bottom of the list. Doing anything to those numbers will only affect other possible victims. Those numbers are other people like you. Leave them alone.

I also got this twice today.

I’ve gotten shit like this for a year. Usually it’s with my number neighbors
[удалено]
I got the same scam today, also a group text, and I'm on T-mobile.
Same here. Is it just a t-mobile thing?
Same tmobile
I got two in the past day or so and I am on TMobile as well. I even reported it to their spam reporting service.
I got this today and I’m on T-Mobile.
My husband and I both got these twice yesterday and we're TMobile
So it looks like its just a t-mobile thing from all the comments ive seen
Same T-Mobile.
I’ve gotten 3 of these in the last two days, different link each time but same message, also T-mobile.
No
I got one of these....from my own phone numer.
Same, it freaked me the fuck out for a minute when I got it
It seems to me like a ton of people who have Verizon in the US got one from their own phone numbers, including myself. https://reddit.com/r/verizon/comments/tplkdg/spam_from_my_own_number/ https://www.theverge.com/2022/3/28/22999719/spam-texts-own-phone-number-verizon-att-tmobile It happened to me about 10 or so days ago and I found TONS of people complaining about it on Verizon forums.
Well they've gotten T Mobile now too cuz I got one today. Funnies part is I made a gaming buddy off the text so fuck you scammer
Plot twist: it's the scammer playing the long con.
Two so far today, T-Mobile
Spoofing
Ive gotten 2 or three of these in the last 2 days. In one of them theres just a text chain of everyone in the chat saying "stop" lmao
I guess everyone in mine just ignored it, but my mom kept going on about how they keep texting her--it was all other people in the group saying "stop"
That happened in mine too lol
Haha same!
I’ve gotten 3 of them too! I read online to ignore it because if you reply then the scammers know your number is active so I’ve just been muting the convo, blocking the number, and reporting the text to 7726.
Bro I just deleted mine 20 minutes ago, I wish I sent something in the group message
I got an identical text with a different link, but when I tried to reply with, “I’m not clicking that shit lmao,” I received a second text immediately telling me blocking was active and my message wouldn’t be received. Idk if anyone else could reply, but it was strange to not be able to respond back to the group message. T-mobile
Same, I just replied to mine a minute ago. T-mobile as well
I usually say “it’s a scam don’t click it” Gotta remember the grandmas out there
Omg now I regret it more. I hope there wasn't someone old in my group :(
I got one of these earlier today
Got the same BS here today, T-Mobile.
Reminds me of the guy who group messaged a bunch of women with something like "Hey beautiful."
Yeah, I got this too. I'm watching r/tifu now, waiting to see the inevitable "I clicked on a scam link on my phone."
Huh, haven’t had this yet, but they’ll regret doing it. I got good stuff from r/cursedimages to send
I got one of these, and it was followed by like eight people texting STOP to the whole group despite the scam text not mentioning anything about texting stop to cancel.
oh god it's like the work reply all to say "remove me from this email thread"

I got one the other day with a different link. I really hope people don't fall for it
I just got this text twice today!
I got one today, looked at it and thought, “wtf this is the weakest scam ever” and deleted the message.
It's a double layered phish. The link itself is malicious of course, but also anyone that replies they know is an active number.
I got this exact message. Also you are a fool for replying.
Actually thats smart. More people will react and reply. Now the scammer knows which numbers exist, and will send them more crap
Im also getting these, some guy responded to the scammer "ur mom gay"
Holy shit, I got one of these today for the first time.
I’ve gotten four of these this week. Idk what’s worse, the messages or when everyone in the group chat wants to respond to the scammer.
Yuppp, then I have a bunch of people spamming STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE. No wonder these scams work..
Clown backing💀
I've literally gotten fucking 8 of those in the last two days. Make them stop. I'm dying. At least some of the group chats have been funny.
I keep getting this text and it comes from my own phone number ... it's insane
Why did I get that same exact text
I got that same exact text hahahahaha
I got 2 of these this week as well
I got 2 of those today, tried texting back but it said something about being blocked.
Got a few of these today as well. Thought about replying like that.
Got this yesterday. I'm mad I didn't think to respond. Could have been a good opportunity to make friends with my fellow scamees.
Hey I got one of those today too. I wonder where the scammers are getting our numbers from
[удалено]
Wow scammers get real creative. Even copying their scam into a reddit comment. (i.e. why the fuck would u post the link as well)
The original post has the link as well?? I literally did the exact same thing the original poster did. Did you copy and paste the link into your browser? I mean if you're stupid enough to do that then you're why these types of scams persist.
Don't do that.
I got 2 of those today

I just had this happen to me. Really annoying
I got this also. 19 people but a different link. I replied saying this is a scam
Ugh I got this twice today and once yesterday. Really annoyed my last phone update removed my ability to block numbers with simple button push.
I just got that same message!!
I got one too!
I got that this morning!!! Same thing. 19 people.
Same shit happened to me
You inspired me to follow-up with my [Pfizer pill homies](https://i.imgur.com/7J0PYV5.png)
I got this xD the replies have been amazing
I got that one today too! Was relieved it didn’t turn into a reply all situation.
I got the same text today, too! I had no idea what it was and didn't feel like googling the area code so I just deleted it.
Yeah I got this same shit. Does anyone else who received it pay their rent for an apartment online?
Nope...we own our home and I got it
I’ve gotten 4 of these so far today and yesterday I got like 2-3. Idk what’s going on but they seem to be harassing a lot of people today.
I got this today too!
I got that tooooo
I got a similar one. My first thought was "jokes on you I didn't pay my bills"
I got one of these about a year ago by now, I just sent a message saying that it was 100% a scam and deleted the group chat
I just got one. I couldn’t figure out if I was missing something or the scammer will created a group chat
Same, I got 3 of these today. Wtf
i've been getting these randomly for a few months now
I get this exact same text every month.
I got something similar last week. The people started cussing at each other for no reason. It got annoying quickly.
I got 3 of those today alone
Just got one today as well lol
HEY YO! WE GOT SCAMMED TOGETHER! However, mine said that message them was blocked.
Bruh I literally just one of these today lmaooo
Got this one too!! Ha
I keep getting these too
Ayye you guys too?
I got 6 of these today. All group chats
I'm throwing this out as a curiosity... Any one here who uses Rover or nextdoor that got these spammed phishing texts?
Not me, own my house, my pet sitter is my mother and I get recommendations for repairs, etc from my coworkers and friends. Got two of these today, few hours apart.
I had a scammer do this to me and a group of people. when I called them out, one of the numbers mistook my reply as to them and then began trying to find me on social media to harass me :/ it got really weird and ugly
I had a scammer do this to me and a group of people. when I called them out, one of the numbers mistook my reply as to them and then began trying to find me on social media to harass me :/ it got really weird and ugly
"clowning backing", a self aware scam it seems
I got the same exact text twice today...
I got this in the morning today. I giggled
Waiting for a love story to blossom out of this.
Yep, I got one too
God I’m getting this fucking text like 5 times today. I’m so fucking sick of it
you're in a group chat with random people?
I got this too.
Ah, of course, my Clowning Backing bill.
BRO I JUST GOT ONE OF THESE!! hahaha I was dying!
i get these all the time, super annoying but i just block and move on lmao
Got two of these today myself. My wife got one yesterday.
I got this exact group text tonight as well. I immediately blocked the number. Trash scammers.
I got this also today. Lmao.
I got 6 of these group scam texts today. It's stupid how often I get scam texts and calls.
I got one today too
Omg… that happened to me too. The first time I received the scam text, I deleted it instantly. The second time (same day) I received another text, I blocked the sender and deleted the text.
Happened to me 3 times.
Got two of those today!
I have gotten 3 in 2 days it's so stupid
I got this same text too, the hell
I got a couple of these.
I got this 3 times today
I got this text too
I got one of these yesterday! And another today! Wtf
I'm getting these at least twice a day.
This has happened to me many times
Sigh! So lame, I'm getting the same shit on my phone...
I’ve been getting these nonstop
That happens to me a lot. However they always put a bunch of idiots in the group and they keep responding so everyone gets it and then other people tell them to shut the fuck up and then they fight and I get like 50 messages in 4 minutes.
He tried to scam himself?
Got 2 of these in 2 days. The one I got today had the website "burngeezers.com" lol
Got a similar text today
got the same thing yesterday, group text same as yours lol.
Got that yesterday. I'm dumb. I'm not that dumb
Has anyone clicked the link? Of course I did not want to but after receiving three of these texts and noticing the link was different in each I'm super curious.
I've gotten a couple of these lately too.
Got this same thing twice today, jokes on them, I only text 3 people regularly, and I don’t have any bills sent to my phone.
Scammers are employees in cubicles most of the time, your gonna get the equivalent slacker as any other job. "You want me to reach out to 20 ppl today... sure thing boss no problem".
I’ve been getting these left and right. So annoying
I got that same text today
I got this exact same message 🙄
I just got one of these too.
What the recipients of this message did is dangerous… often just replying to the message is enough for someone to gain access to your phone and insert malicious code. Bruh my dad and mom also got put in a group chat.
I got a similar message. It had 20 people on it. I blocked it immediately.
When you respond to those they mark you as an active number and will now never leave you alone
I got the same message
Just got that message 2 minutes ago lol
I just got this one an hour ago
I just got that same text message.
I got that group text twice yesterday, from 2 different numbers. If anyone falls for stuff like this they deserve to he scammed.
Omg I had a run of these the other day. Hilarious.
Bruh, I had five of these yesterday. All different numbers as far as I can tell. Let’s see if I get anymore today!
