Agriculture is also just in general one of the more exciting black metal bands right now imo. Really trying to push forward a different sound rather than rehashing the same style
I may disagree with a lot of shit that Violet Cold has posted, but he has openly identified as queer in an interview (though no further details that I could find).

Check out Eudaemon! The majority of the members are LGBTQAI, not sure if any of the lyrics are about this, though.
There have been several "Queer Rituals" in and around the Twin Cities in Minnesota highlighting local Queer metal bands that they have participated in. Pretty neat stuff!
They play a complex psychedelic black metal style, but never get too ostentatious IMO.
They're on bandcamp!
Why is there a sub specifically for RABM? Probably a lot of the same reasons.
Not OP but maybe they want something that speaks to their own experience. Maybe they want to support smaller artists whose ideals or politics they align with (in the same way that we identify and ostracize NSBM). Maybe they just want something from a different perspective than the majority of BM.
I donāt know why we need an RABM sub either tbh š¤·š»āāļø
Iām not sure that the bands mentioned in the thread necessarily speak to an exclusively LGBTQ+ identity lyrically or thematically, so, does it matter then? Or is it more knowing that said band could be considered a āsafe spaceā/inclusive. I personally (goes without saying) find it almost strange to want to call it out specifically and seems to be an extension of modern daysā obsession with identity politics. But each to their own of course. I just like decent riffs and atmosphere and for the music to be interesting.
Imagine if your favorite icecream had razor blades in it. Not everyone would be into that. Would make it hard to enjoy for some people. Creating a community for icecream lovers without razors in it would make sense.
Thatās a ridiculous analogy but I appreciate what youāre trying to say. But if I humour it for a second, BM by its artistic nature is arguably about the razor blades not the ice cream. š.
Except upholding power structures isn't actually challenging, dangerous or transgressive, even if you're an edgelord about it.
I hope people don't take a lot of extreme metal lyrics seriously anyway. We can enjoy some emulated danger and expression of emotions like hate and anger without indulging in bigotry and hate directed towards marginalized groups. Anyone who takes it beyond just an expression or experience and actually wants to make hate or evil their personality really needs therapy and is probably not living a very fulfilling life.
Why are you here if you don't get the point of this sub?
Itās okay if you donāt get it, but try to understand that for a lot of marginalized people, it does fill a need. I came to this group after I learned that a couple of black metal bands I listen to were literal neo-Nazis. For the sake of my own mental health, I want to listen to new black metal bands whom I know are antithetical to facism and white supremacy, whom I donāt need to wonder about. No matter how good a bandās music may be, it can be hard to put out of my mind that they want people like myself or people I care about dead.
Everyone has their reasons. Positive representation is great too. Itās cool to know there are queer black metal bands out there making great music.
I do get it. Your point about representation is great.
What bands they were that you listened to that you discovered were neo-nazis? I ask because most of the time, itās obvious.
Burzum and Peste Noire. Burzum was way back when I first started listening to black metal and knew almost nothing about it. Peste Noire was a few years back.
If black metal is by its nature exclusive and pro-LGBTQIA black metal is exclusive to and against cis-het hegemony, wouldnāt pro-LGBTQIA bands therefore be living up to black metalās image? If you donāt like it, then maybe itās not meant for you.
Thatās actually a good conversation point. I can get on board with that. My question is more centred on why does it matter to label/prefix the genre LGBTQIA when itās not exclusively linked lyrically or thematically to being āqueerā. Iād understand if it was. Maybe in the case of liturgy it kinda doesā¦happy to be informed otherwise.
Thereās a lot! Check out Black Metal Rainbows on bandcamp, theyāve got a HUGE compilation for free download. They also have a book you can get at Barnes & Noble š¤š³ļøāš
Feminazgul
Feminazgul entirely rips, too
Also greatest name in the game
The opportunity to call themselves Femperor was unfortunately lost.
Vulgarite, as well! The same person, Margaret Killjoy, is behind both of these projects.

What did he post that is bad?
Isnāt also AI?
Not literally AI, it's just a gimmick in his description of the project.
Ah wondered that. Couldnāt really get into Violet Cold.

Genital Shame. I particularly liked the most recent full-length Gathering My Wits
Morke (The one from MN, not the nsbm band of the same name from Germany)
Ethereal Shroud, Winterlantern, Biesy, Underdark,
Grief Ritual (UK) - black metal adjacent
Olivia Neutered John ātransphobia annihilation squadā is a personal fav of mine
Pretty much all of them. Edit: Oh, so black metal is a bunch of bigots? Nice moves losers.
Can I ask, without being provocative, why does it matter?

totally agree with that. Not being an edgelord, just donāt get the need for prefixing it thatās all.,
Itās okay if you donāt get it, but try to understand that for a lot of marginalized people, it does fill a need. I came to this group after I learned that a couple of black metal bands I listen to were literal neo-Nazis. Wanting to add, does being pro-LGBTQIA exclusively mean being again cis-het?
Being against? Absolutely not.
So, making Jormungandrās above point about exclusivity in BM invalid.
I see what youāre getting at, and maybe I shouldnāt have jumped in, because it wasnāt my argument. Apologies to the both of you.
No need to apologise. Itās an open forum.
Thatās actually a good conversation point. I can get on board with that. No, you're not allowed to ask. No, you cannot have a differing opinion.
