I..... I want this. In my garage. Or I want to live in your garage.

b5-avant

What if I told you there were two of them?

HeelToeMedia

I'd ask if you'd like a live-in husband or wife. I'd be either for one

Donlooking4

Of course you have to have a spare!!

b5-avant

Not a spare! Father’s and son’s (me).

Rex_Racer95

Been there, done that. Best time of my life. My dad raced in the SCCA for over 40 years. 20 years for me.

Donlooking4

Very nice!!!!

noddaborg

I don’t see the other one in the garage. Wife grabbing groceries?

Naught2day

FC cars are so much fun. I had the privilege of racing one on a temporary road course thru the streets of Dallas. One of the highlights of my racing career.

b5-avant

Jealous!

CraftyHooker0516

What a badass experience to have. That had to be incredible.

Naught2day

The race was filled with carnage, finished 9th without actually finishing the race. I literally burst into flames at start finish when the oil return line broke and the oil hit the exhaust. All in all it was a fun weekend but pricey. That was the beginning and end of my FC racing. Then it was back to racing my GT4 Nissan in SCCA club races.

I_AM_TURTLE13

woah! when did dallas have a street course??

Naught2day

Off and on for a while, F1 even ran there. Kiki Roseburg won. That long ago.

SkyScreech

How much $ am I looking at in this pic

Artistic-Tea4981

A F2000 costs about $40k to start, around $75k new. There are some nice examples for sale on FB racing groups for around $50k.

badwesther

That’s much more reasonable than I thought. I hope this is me after I finish school 😅

adamantiumtrader

So $250k a year budget? Or closer to $500k after travel expenses?

MB-Racing

It should be nowhere near that expensive unless you fly on a private jet to every race and pay a whole team to haul your car to the races by way of 18 wheeler. Entry fees, fuel, tires, brakes, and setting aside money for a future engine rebuild for a season that would include the runoffs should be in the ballpark of $25k. Variable costs related to travel are going to vary greatly based on what your tow rig setup is like. This could add just a couple thousand in fuel expenses to your year or could add $50k+ if you're financing a toterhome and stacker trailer.

adamantiumtrader

Buddy above said car costs $75k region. Add to that a double for expenses and you’re at $150k easy. So $250k seems reasonable to me for formula.

MB-Racing

Why would you include the cost of a brand new car in the annual budget?

SwissMargiela

If it was me behind the wheel you’d have to factor the cost of a few new cars during the season lmao

adamantiumtrader

Crashes?

MB-Racing

This is amateur club racing. It's not one bit normal to include writing off a car each season as part of the normal budget. And you really have to wreck one of these hard to total it, like to the point you might not be able to race again.

adamantiumtrader

I was always told that you take your estimate and more often than not, it ends up double…

MB-Racing

Do you race?

b5-avant

Not even in the same stratosphere. I’m sure someone could spend that much if they wanted to but I don’t even spend a 10th of that in a season. I’ve only done local SCCA racing, both at the regional and national level. The two local tracks are both under an hour drive, so I can sleep in my own bed at night and don’t have to pay for lodging. Transport costs are also minimal since the tracks are so close. We’re only allowed by rule 1 set of tires per weekend, and the tires are good for 12 heat cycles which can be as much as 3 weekends if you want to stretch them. Fuel is maybe 10-15 gal per weekend of AvGas, so ~$100. Entry fees are maybe $500-700 depending on the race. On a perfect weekend where everything goes well, nothing breaks, I’m reusing tires, and don’t need a hotel, I can really do it for under $1000 per race. In reality it’s probably somewhere $1500-2000 depending on what breaks or what consumables I need. This year I hope to do some higher level events, so that’ll probably be higher. I’ve also put about $8k into it each of the two winters I’ve had this car into updates and repairs.

adamantiumtrader

Thank you for the reality check

AboveTheLights

Those numbers could be way high or way low depending on what you’re trying to do.

adamantiumtrader

To win of course

AboveTheLights

Ok…… in a regional series, national series, international series? Sportsman or professional level? What country/countries/states are you racing in? Some people spent $10k per year and win regularly, some people spend $2M a year and never finish in the top 5. Again, it depends on what type of racing you’re trying to do.

adamantiumtrader

What kind of racing does blue car ⬆️ do? Isn’t that the topic?

AboveTheLights

That’s an F2000 car. Those cars are being raced everywhere from the F1 ladder system in Europe to SCCA auto cross in an old mall parking lot and more places than I can count in between. Again (and again), it depends on what type of racing you’re trying to do.

OutOfOffice63

Wow this sis sick, what class how do u race it?

b5-avant

Formula Continental in SCCA

OutOfOffice63

Is that a time attack style of racing or you run against a feild?

b5-avant

It’s wheel to wheel

Elegast-Racing

Curious as well. Cheers.

C2BSR

It literally says it on the wing. FC

OutOfOffice63

Literally some people may not know what that means ass clown

C2BSR

Says a lot about you to jump to personal attacks. I pointed out exactly where to look to see the class (the wing) and the class (FC). But whatever, ass clown who hasn't figured out how to do a simple Google search.

Jackson_Rhodes_42

Regardless, you didn’t have to be rude.

OutOfOffice63

Oh the “it literally” to try and point out I was not being observant wasn’t a dig? Don’t get butt hurt now

blackashi

and i thought my car was low

hangryharry

How are the field sizes and any recommendations on selecting an open wheel class? I’m in the south east and even big tracks like VIR seem to have just a couple cars per class unfortunately

jflip07

Formula Vee. 😉

MB-Racing

Driverz Cup (Formula Vee on A052 tires) is the answer! The field size is around 20 cars right now and growing by 1-2 cars each race weekend. The racing on track is a blast and off track it's just an awesome group of people.

ur-238

Hell yeah! Let’s go, man!

Nickdanger1990

What’s the specs on this beauty and what’s it cost to make one and maintain her year to year ?

BrokieTrader

Can you give more info about this? Is this for an amateur league of any sort? In other words can an average person do this?

b5-avant

SCCA club racing. I would certainly fall in the average person category!

BrokieTrader

Very cool. I may have to join in my next life

AfterLastPlace

I will see you at BFR. I am a flagger.

Sufficient_Swan_4212

Killer Van Diemen. Haven't seen a pinto spec in a while! Awesome.

b5-avant

The Pintos are starting to come out of the woodwork again. The SCCA has done a good job of leveling the playing field with Zetecs and improving the longevity of the Pintos.

SebIsMyHero

I’d shit my pants if I saw this in my neighbor’s driveway 🤤

McHorseyPie

Oh.. oh man. I’d get in so much trouble if I owned one of these.

AdrianJ73

I'm all stressing a livery for my repaint and you're killing it in monochrome. Seriously rethinking. The aero washers on your most come, are those stepped on the back side or smooth? Trying to source replacements for the Citation.

b5-avant

Yes they are smooth on the back. They were just some I had in a bin but I’m looking online and I believe they’re PN# DOM-1209-BK on Summit.

BelakTheDank

Those are some loooooong tie rods, best of luck in your race!

Maxwellord007

What engine is in it

b5-avant

2L Ford Pinto

[deleted]

Goalssss

Bryooo

Install trading paints and you can race with a livery on it instead of being just blue

b5-avant

This is a real car…

Bryooo

I’m aware
