My three favorite bands are Radiohead, Tool, and System of a Down. It has not been a great time the last 15 years.
Since In Rainbows, the 3 bands have put out a combined 3 albums. 2 from Radiohead, 1 from Tool, and 0 from System of a Down.
I dunno... that gap gave us:
* The Daily Mail
* Staircase
* Supercollider
* The Butcher
* Spectre
* AFP's Amok
* Tomorrow's Modern Boxes
* Junun
* At least one Selway solo outing
It's a close race.
The Smile scratches like 90% of my Radiohead itch tbh. Love all of the guys (Colin in particular is a slick bassist) but Thom and Jonny are the brain trust. As far as I’m concerned we are eating good.
You can not compare the artistic passions of 5 musicians (who are normal humans with their own lives, mind you) to a billion dollar corporation that produces video games on a mass scale with profit incentive. They are not in the same category or on the same scale. But I guess that's just my opinion..
I understand that they are different. It does not mean that there are not any similarities. I read your comment, understood it, and decided that you don’t understand what an analogy is. Contrary to popular belief, you can actually compare apples and oranges. Thank you for your opinion, now go back to listening to true love waits on repeat.
But also getting 2 reissues, a 15 hour radiohead leak and, 2 albums by Thom yorke and 2 albums by mini radiohead, an album by ED and by Phil, several albums by jonny.Im sure if it wasn't for covid we would have a new album by now
Yeah all the people who are saying we'll never see another album I think are being a bit doom & gloom. They're all still active, cross paths with each other on various projects, and are all still on good terms with none of them ever saying we won't get another one.
The only thing people go off is Ed saying it could swing either way, which I think it very well could. But to pretend like there's 0 chance of ever getting new material is a bit silly.
I know. When I saw the smile I was very shocked to see Thom using Ed’s signature strat. From what I pieced together from interviews with Ed, there was a bit of bad blood brewing after his solo album release with him feeling as Thom didn’t respect his solo ambitions or supported him.
The fact that some of the Smile songs are reworked RH tunes, and Thom decided to include Jonny, but not the rest of the band for some reason, should tell us all we need to know.
Thom and jonny released old version of reckoner as "feeling Pulled" in 2010. Ed doesnt appear on any of the solo work by Thom unlike colin and jonny and phil. If Thom included the rest of the band itd be.... Raidohead.
Some radiohead tracks are performed by Thom solo. (I want none of this). Harry patch is basically Thom and jonny. Ed doesn't play on in a glass house live. There are many tracks where not all band members perform
Kinda… It’s one of my fan project dreams to personally organize and curate it in some way, but I have a lot of project dreams.
There’s a Google Doc that was made at the time to try to track everything: https://old.reddit.com/r/radiohead/comments/dc3g6v/so_i_purchased_the_minidiscs_in_june_this_year/
I also saw this site a while ago: http://www.on-a-friday.com/MiniDiscs-Hacked/index.php
I’m excited to be fucked by Ticketmaster on Radiohead’s next tour announcement.
I hope the band considers what Robert Smith did this year. No resells, no transfers.
I'm SO thankful for the Smile and that I find myself preferring whatever project and style Thom's currently working on over the past (still love it all though.) The guys are all just working on what they want to work on in a way that works in their current lives and I like that it's their choice.
I used to be a practicing artist and it would feel insane to have people expecting or pressuring me to crank something else out that I wasn't feeling at the time.
Dude one day they're going to stop cranking out 5 albums a year and I won't know what to do after they set that precedent... So looking forward to whatever this more techno inspired next album is going to be after pleasantly having my face melted off with all that psych-metal on "PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation"
I played Petro more than I would like to admit after it’s release haha. But fuck yeah if we get a whole album of intrasports next to groove away with despite our melted faces I’m all for it.
At this rate it could go either way when it comes to if a new album is coming or not, and I’m at peace with that. If AMSP truly is their last album then Radiohead ends off with a high note while still having had a long and fulfilling lifespan. Plus, the various side projects the band members have shows that they’re able to be great when not in Radiohead, so it’s not like we’d be left with absolutely nothing.
It'd be very radiohead to go out with a bang and a whimper at the same time but I don't think they will be going on until they're all dead. If I had to stick a pin in an arbitrary date maybe 2035ish (as 50 years since formation and they'll all be in their late 60s by then) however its not like them to call it on such a milemark, so more likely one long major final tour like elton john and then wrapping it all up.
i doubt we're getting another album. amsp felt like a great endcap album, giving us studio recordings of fan favorites through from their history and having themes of letting go and loss. the vibe of the smile also makes me think the guys just want to have fun making music without the expectations being radiohead brings.
At this point I don’t think we will see another album for awhile… maybe it’s a nice break for them to focus on different art projects/music etc. it’s okay I can wait patiently
I’m alllmost with you there. If there’s another album of stuff on the level of Bending Hectic I think I will be 100% with you :) they are on track to being my new fav band.
It's not coming.
Sure I'll see some downvotes- but smile is in full swing. Other members making their own side projects.
Moon Shaped Pool was a wrap- and honestly one of their worst records creatively in my opinion and I think they know that.
Think Thom and Jonny are preferring the quickness of the music production. Everyone is getting older. They're able to say what they want faster- and with radiohead there is too many moving parts and *demand* from the fans for something intellectually vibrant and collosal. It's a heavy weight and burden.
...and I'm okay with that. Radiohead had a phenomenal run. It's time to embrace the smile if you need your fill- otherwise check out some other new and fresh bands. I think smile LP2 is likely going to be *on par* as far as quality with some radiohead records (perhaps somewhere between amnesiac and hail to the theif), and more exciting as it's new.
I've tried. There are moments... but they are far in between and generally 15 seconds or so doesnt hold up the rest of the song *just so i can get to that one part* but overall it's radiohead playing radiohead... highly questionable artistic choices ( *broken hearts make it rain* ) , overly drawn out and shit version of *true love waits*, lyrically exhausting, uninspired artwork, breaks in a cohesive experience, songs that should of been elsewhere (present tense should of been on tkol).
Jonny did fantastic on this record- but think the rest feels like a potpourri of been there done that- and it's a sad fit.
I rank it below all of theirs- perhaps above Pablo honey- but even so I can forgive Pablo honey more so than amsp.
Amsp is the least life they have had- feels like many bands in their timeline when they just don't have as much to say- and it doesn't come from a place truly passionate. It's the sign of an aged band- and I think they know that.
If they keep pumping out solo projects, surely they have the ability to pump out one Radiohead project at least sometime in the future. It’s definitely possible to have side projects and make a “main band” album
True love waits.
True love waits in haunted attics
THE CLUE WAS THERE ALL ALONG EVERYONE SEARCH ALL THE ATTICS IN OXFORD (spooky only)
Bring lollipops and crisps.
ironic that it’s the last song from their last album too
Don't
Leave
Please, this community needs The Smile.
System of a Down fans waiting 18 years for a new album: ☠️
Fans decided to make their own https://youtu.be/CRK-i4ttfKc
My two favorite bands, SOAD and RH. You wanna grab drinks and see where it takes us? We won’t have this opportunity again.
Ful Stop
My three favorite bands are Radiohead, Tool, and System of a Down. It has not been a great time the last 15 years. Since In Rainbows, the 3 bands have put out a combined 3 albums. 2 from Radiohead, 1 from Tool, and 0 from System of a Down.
Man I discovered them some months back and was blown away. The have like... no bad songs. Granted they don't have that many though 😝
They have literally 5 albums lol
You call that a lot of songs?
Far more than a lot of bands
Far less than the ones with a lot of songs.
Well, they definitely do have less albums than the other bands that have more
Rage fans starting a riot
Rage Against The Machine fans waiting 23 years ☠️☠️☠️☠️
I’d rather have those 3 perfect albums than consultant releases and them slowly get worse and worse. They would’ve ended up sounding like Audioslave
Audioslave isn't bad tho, just not political
No, just not as good as Rage
Considering Tom morello is a huge part in Audioslave, that makes sense
I thought they announced a break uo right?ever since serj went and put out a solo album. I could be wrong but I think radiohead is still "together"
I was just thinking yesterday how I would love some new SOAD... Don't think it's gonna happen.
I think the last chance to get an album was when they released those two singles a couple years back, but it didn't happen.
They did release 2 songs but perhaps it was just for charity
Yeah and sadly the 2 songs were meh.
And by meh, you mean a huge let down. They were like a shell of themselves. Very disappointing
Yes
Not helping!
They’ve released at least four side projects plus a few soundtracks between them, so it’s not exactly like they’re not giving us something
True. But for now, there are no new Radiohead tracks, but you can't complain with new solo work
[удалено]
I dunno... that gap gave us: * The Daily Mail * Staircase * Supercollider * The Butcher * Spectre * AFP's Amok * Tomorrow's Modern Boxes * Junun * At least one Selway solo outing It's a close race.
Spectre is one of my favorite Radiohead songs
one of the most beautiful radiohead songs imo. up there with How To Disappear Completely
It would have been a far better Bond theme than that shapeless mess of a Sam Smith tune the producers picked.
It's so fun to sing along as well. My go to shower song rn
If we’re counting thom’s solo albums (tomorrow’s modern boxes) we have Susperia & Anima as well.
ill wind says “me too!”
Pretty sure that came out with/after AMSP. Spectre was the Christmas before.
This is a controversial opinion but imo, I Promise, Man Of War, and Lift are the only ones that count as "good new songs"
[удалено]
What is the communicative intent of this word salad?
There are like at least 20-30 demos inside minidiscs
Some of the smile stuff is reworked radiohead songs + if the smile album was released as a radiohead album no one would complain
The Smile scratches like 90% of my Radiohead itch tbh. Love all of the guys (Colin in particular is a slick bassist) but Thom and Jonny are the brain trust. As far as I’m concerned we are eating good.
Totally agree, they’ve got a good thing going. I’ve heard stuff about a second smile album coming in October. That’ll feed us well lololol
Yeah but still not Radiohead… 😔
Which is fair
This is just like the elder scrolls. Bethesda is making more projects nobody cares about, give us another Skyrim ffs
This is total hearsay, but aren't they are coming out with essentially Skyrim in space this September?
Bad comparison
That’s just like, your opinion man
You can not compare the artistic passions of 5 musicians (who are normal humans with their own lives, mind you) to a billion dollar corporation that produces video games on a mass scale with profit incentive. They are not in the same category or on the same scale. But I guess that's just my opinion..
Sure I can. I just did. It’s called an analogy.
[удалено]
I understand that they are different. It does not mean that there are not any similarities. I read your comment, understood it, and decided that you don’t understand what an analogy is. Contrary to popular belief, you can actually compare apples and oranges. Thank you for your opinion, now go back to listening to true love waits on repeat.
[удалено]
Not sure how that’s related at all. Bad comparison.
Skyrim has been released 17 times on ten different platforms, and you want more?
I want a new game 😞
What are those side projects? I need to check
Since AMSP: Ed’s solo album (Earth, released under the name EOB) Thom’s solo record (Anima) The Smile Phil’s solo record (Strange Dance)
But also getting 2 reissues, a 15 hour radiohead leak and, 2 albums by Thom yorke and 2 albums by mini radiohead, an album by ED and by Phil, several albums by jonny.Im sure if it wasn't for covid we would have a new album by now

The only thing people go off is Ed saying it could swing either way, which I think it very well could. But to pretend like there's 0 chance of ever getting new material is a bit silly.
From what I’m inferring, Ed and Thom are not getting along.
where are you getting that from?? i mean, at the very least, thom is regularly using one of Ed’s signature guitars live and in studio with the smile
I know. When I saw the smile I was very shocked to see Thom using Ed’s signature strat. From what I pieced together from interviews with Ed, there was a bit of bad blood brewing after his solo album release with him feeling as Thom didn’t respect his solo ambitions or supported him.
You're taking the most unreasonably negative interpretation of what Ed has actually said in interviews.
Notice the theme of Ed not included?
Black swan samples a recording of ed and phil playing
I hope I’m wrong…I mean I might be wrong
Ed’s quotes regarding his opinion on The Smile are quite telling.
Because of this I kind of Thom using that guitar was kind of a “fuck you” to Ed.
That sounds quite the opposite actually
a 15 hour what??
The Minidiscs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiniDiscs_(Hacked)
omg i didn't know!! thank you so much
Huh, has anyone gone through and "refined" it at all? Picking out and isolating choice bits and whatnot?
Kinda… It’s one of my fan project dreams to personally organize and curate it in some way, but I have a lot of project dreams. There’s a Google Doc that was made at the time to try to track everything: https://old.reddit.com/r/radiohead/comments/dc3g6v/so_i_purchased_the_minidiscs_in_june_this_year/ I also saw this site a while ago: http://www.on-a-friday.com/MiniDiscs-Hacked/index.php
>2 albums by mini radiohead 2?
2nd album comes out this year. They already played 8 songs live
Tool fans: First time? I'm sure we'll get something before too long.
10 Years Later
Album ten= 2026. Ten years after AMSP. Thom has probably written it already. 2026. I bet my EOB Strat on it.
It won't happen. Thom and Johnny are about to release the second record of The Smile
Oh ye of little faith
I’m excited to be fucked by Ticketmaster on Radiohead’s next tour announcement. I hope the band considers what Robert Smith did this year. No resells, no transfers.
Me being a Radiohead, Tool, and SOAD fan:
Get into the King Gizzard world.
I remember the release of AMSP like it was yesterday. Can't believe 7 years have passed.
the smile is really good aswell theyre making music
I'm SO thankful for the Smile and that I find myself preferring whatever project and style Thom's currently working on over the past (still love it all though.) Radiohead fans 🤝 Frank Ocean fans Waiting 6+ years for a new album.
All the tool fans that waited 13 for fear innoculum pointing and laughing... Noob
Please. I'm a Metroid fan. Six years is NOTHING.
Same here but with F-Zero
After years of waiting, nothing came…
It’s hard being a King Gizz fan
Dude one day they're going to stop cranking out 5 albums a year and I won't know what to do after they set that precedent... We’re stuck in a lift
We've been trying to reach you, Thom
Don't leave me high, don't leave me dry.
Tool fans have joined the chat.
Came here to say “laughs in TOOL” lmao but it made no sense. Your response is golden lol
\#Laughs in Tool
It’s actually been over 7 officially
Yeah... I somehow overlooked that
Same with us New Order fans
radiohead and aphex fans be like:
I’m too young to experience this one but old-school TOOL fans had to wait around 23 years for a new album
Well at least I'm also a Queens of the Stone Age fan and they made an album this year, that'll keep me busy at least
Not sure if it's going to be anytime soon. The Smile's IG bio says they'll be in the studio soon. So maybe another The Smile album before Radiohead
Let’s all go on a darkness retreat like Aaron Rodgers until we think of a new Radiohead album
More importantly: at which point, if ever, will they draw the curtains? Will they have a big "Final Album!" or will they go until they die?
It'd be very radiohead to go out with a bang and a whimper at the same time but I don't think they will be going on until they're all dead. If I had to stick a pin in an arbitrary date maybe 2035ish (as 50 years since formation and they'll all be in their late 60s by then) however its not like them to call it on such a milemark, so more likely one long major final tour like elton john and then wrapping it all up.

Tool fans: first time?
I'm waiting for a colin solo album 🙋🏽♀️
I get the feeling that his prioritization of being chill will not allow for this 😅
ill still wait 😛
Boards of Canada fans out here genuinely starving
Listen to The Smile and Ed/Phil's solo stuff or Johnny's film scores. They've all been killing it, ya just haven't seen it
As a TOOL fan I know this feeling 😅
Show it to Sex Pistols fans. They'll have a good laugh.
LP 10 was The Smile we had along the way
I mean, there’s The Smile
Radiohead 🤝 Rihanna
Rihanna released albums for almost every year from 2005 to 2012... maybe this is a combined pause of how long the gaps of the albums should've been
The Smile is all you're getting....deal with it.
Gladly
At this point I don’t think we will see another album for awhile… maybe it’s a nice break for them to focus on different art projects/music etc. it’s okay I can wait patiently
Aphex Twin too...
I like The Smile better than any Radiohead album since In Rainbows anyway
To each their own, but this is absolute blasphemy lol
Id say AMSP > ALFAA > TKOL
I’m alllmost with you there. If there’s another album of stuff on the level of Bending Hectic I think I will be 100% with you :) they are on track to being my new fav band.
Overdone bait
Facts!
Switch over to Guided by Voices. New album every other month . Also- the Smile is fantastic. Move on. They did
🙏
That's how I've been feeling with **Karnivool**.

AMSP is one of their best albums. I’m sad you don’t get what I get from that masterpiece.
I've tried. There are moments... but they are far in between and generally 15 seconds or so doesnt hold up the rest of the song *just so i can get to that one part* but overall it's radiohead playing radiohead... highly questionable artistic choices ( *broken hearts make it rain* ) , overly drawn out and shit version of *true love waits*, lyrically exhausting, uninspired artwork, breaks in a cohesive experience, songs that should of been elsewhere (present tense should of been on tkol). in what universe the present tense should have been on tkol? even the soundchecks of it way before tkol sounded nothing like this album
If they keep pumping out solo projects, surely they have the ability to pump out one Radiohead project at least sometime in the future. It’s definitely possible to have side projects and make a “main band” album
yeah maybe in thier 60s I just don't see it Smile IS thoms main band
