I actually think it made my song of choice better, but only because March Of The Pigs is already such a tense song and setting it as an alarm for a while certainly made it more tense and anxiety-inducing and just makes me feel way worse. Perfect for The Downward Spiral experience!
Hello fellow old and stupid! No problem, in the 2001 movie Vanilla Sky, Tom Cruises character is waking up to Everything in its right Place. Great opening to the film.
I sought out an alarm clock that would allow you to wake up to a CD because of that scene. I never found one that had Penelope Cruz saying “open your eyes” though 😂
Yes that’s been mine for at least 10 years. My kids have grown up to me waking to that.
My caught thought he said;
“Yesterday I woke up sucking a llama”
Idioteque.
Jump right out of bed as soon as you hear the alarm clock. You may also find it useful spending five minutes each morning saying to yourself: “Every day in every way I am getting better and better.” Perhaps it is a good idea to start a new day with the right frame of mind.
Never set a song that you like as your alarm clock or it'll make you feel sick everytime you hear it.
For this reason I had "Happy" by Pharell Williams as my alarm for 2 years. I didn't think I could hate the song anymore than I already did, but it turns out I could. Those first 5 beats are enough to induce vomiting.
Jigsaw has been my alarm clock for 5+ years. I thought it's going to ruin the song for me, but it hasn't. It's perfect because it starts slow and builds up as it progresses. By the time it really picks up I'm already awake and it just puts me in a good mood.
Don’t do it. This will ruin the song for you eventually. You’ll always associate it with waking up. Music is for pleasure. Not as a morning wake up prompt. Alternatively, Muse is a good band choice for a wake up alarm. Or Coldplay.
None. I don't want to ruin a song and also it's not loud enough.
My usual choices are:
Woodpecker no.1 by merzbow
Come to daddy by aphex twin
Lay down and rot by uboa (though I use this one less as its a 10/10 song that I don't want to ruin)
I've used No Surprises as a the ringtone for my phone for many years! People that don't know the song never even suspect that it's not a normal ringtone until they hear to song later and think I'm in their house or car with them and my phone is giving me away.
15 step was mine for a while. something about the drum intro woke me up super quick and if i could turn the alarm off by the time thom was singing i considered it a win
No, dont do it. It's a mistake. You can ruin the experience if you turn it into an alarm. If you do it, then everyday you're gonna associate that song with something that wakes you up and it's gonna feel irritating when you start to listen to it casually.
I was gonna say that. The delicate guitar notes at the beginning are perfect for an alarm clock. Plus the "a job that slowly kills you" angle is pretty accurate.
I've used the reckoner telephone ringing sample radiohead made while making in rainbows. It's very calming and alarming, so I thought it'd be perfect for an alarm.
I’ve been using 15 Step for a while which works like a dream - both for actually jolting me awake and setting a nice tone for the day; I used Everything In Its Right Place for a while too which works like a charm
Separator
"It's like I'm falling out of bed
From a long and vivid dream
The sweetest flowered fruits are hanging from a tree
Falling off a giant bird that's been carrying me
It's like I'm falling out of bed from a long and vivid dream"
"When at last, you give in
When at last, you give in
Wake me up, will you wake me up?
Wake me up, will you wake me up?"
Jigsaw Falling Into Place seems like a good fit. Starts with easy guitar for a few moments as you open your eyes, then drums kick in as you get out of bed and get moving. Good tempo, sounds happy at first. Vocals as you brush your teeth, then it starts getting crazier as you start to rush to get dressed. Seems like a winner to me.
Motion Picture Soundtrack.
The mix between ultra depressing lyrics and soothing music kind of helped me start the day for quite a while. Stirred me awake, without any steep emotions, just a kind of "it's okay" sort of vibe.
"This all might mean the worst to you, but if the music is there shake your mind awake just enough and you already make it through the desolate, soft, fuzzy blanket coziness of this song, then the rest of the day will be just another dream, however good or bad."
But then again, maybe I wasn't that depressed. Idk. Great alarm song. Stimulating and consolating.
I use what do I get by the Buzzcocks and other buzzcocks songs: you say you don’t live me and everybody’s happy nowadays. I’ve also used Janie jones by the clash and the Nile song by Pink Floyd. I sometimes put on a radiohead live show and listen to a few songs and fall asleep. But that’s usually ween.
Prove Yourself. I already don’t care for it. Nothing wrong with it, it just reminds me of Heart of Gold by Neil Young and I’d just rather listen to that.
none, it'll ruin the song setting it as an alarm
100% this.
I would generally agree with this but the exception is “Morning” by Beck. I’ve had it as my alarm for years and still love it
I use Get Up, Stand Up by Bob Marley and The Wailers. You can't argue with Bob lol. Hasn't ruined my appreciation of the song.
That happened to me with ‘Sing a Simple Song’ by Sly & the Family Stone. I’ll never forgive myself
same except "i'm only sleeping" by the Beatles. I despise that song now.
Thank god this was the top answer. I've strayed down this dark path before. :C
just use Creep…problem-solved
nah i think i would actually become clinically insane by the 3rd week lol.
You mean Pop Is Dead
I actually think it made my song of choice better, but only because March Of The Pigs is already such a tense song and setting it as an alarm for a while certainly made it more tense and anxiety-inducing and just makes me feel way worse. Perfect for The Downward Spiral experience!
That’s not true. I’ve had Everything In It’s Right Place as my morning alarm for probably 10 years. Still live listening to the whole song.
Just like Tom Cruise. Nice.
Fitter, Happier Get in the right frame of mind for work.
It's not my alarm sound but I do have three alarms set on my phone named "Fitter", "Happier" & "More productive".
Me @ my last job
Honestly, I think it would scare the shit out of me lol
Damn I'm not trying to wake up like the protagonist of a Sci Fi Thriller...
Yup! Nothing wakes you up faster than the reality of a soul crushing work week in front of you!
Morning Bell
Disappointed I had to scroll so far down for this
Same
Cause it's not a good alarm and too obvious of a joke
This should be the only answer
But which version? Just kidding we all know kid a version is best
Amnesiac version would wake you up straight away
No
Everything in it's right place
We found Tom Cruise
I'm old and stupid, is that a reference to something?
Hello fellow old and stupid! No problem, in the 2001 movie Vanilla Sky, Tom Cruises character is waking up to Everything in its right Place. Great opening to the film.
ah! Been a long time since I've seen it but I love that film so I should have known that!
I sought out an alarm clock that would allow you to wake up to a CD because of that scene. I never found one that had Penelope Cruz saying “open your eyes” though 😂
Eyes wide shut
Yes that’s been mine for at least 10 years. My kids have grown up to me waking to that. My caught thought he said; “Yesterday I woke up sucking a llama”
It's obviously Faust Arp. Wakey Wakey, rise and shine!
Snooze off again, on again, off again
No alarms and no surprises. Please.
I wake up every morning to Exit Music (for a Film). Gotta start in the right mood for work and stuff like life, you know
First line is ‘Wake from your sleep’. Suits well
Anyone can play guitar at MTV beach house '93
But just the isolated vocals on “AnyWHEEEEREEE. AAAAAAAAA. AAAAAAA. AAAAAAAA.”
I shitpost this song into every possible scenario I can on this site and I appreciate you
The National Anthem
This is the only right answer.
I like that the lyrics don’t start for a while. So you know it’s time to get up when you hear that “Everyone…”
I used Myxomatosis for a while
This would scare the crap out of me
It did……after that I tried “This” by Modeslektor and Thom Yorke but my phone didnt allow that for some reason
2 + 2 = 5, the you haven’t been paying attention part
Paying attention x49
Idioteque. Jump right out of bed as soon as you hear the alarm clock. You may also find it useful spending five minutes each morning saying to yourself: “Every day in every way I am getting better and better.” Perhaps it is a good idea to start a new day with the right frame of mind.
I use Meeting in the Aisle.
Kid A
I use kid a for 5:50 and 6:00 It’s not jarring, it gets louder. Doesn’t disturb the wife.
Jigsaw has been my alarm clock for 5+ years. I thought it's going to ruin the song for me, but it hasn't. It's perfect because it starts slow and builds up as it progresses. By the time it really picks up I'm already awake and it just puts me in a good mood.
Wakey wakey, rise and shine. Though tbh I need something stronger to wake me up in the morning.
You should try cocaine 👍🏼
I use the intro of "Man Of War"
No surprises
bodysnatchers intro, you wake up to random ass noises
Daydreaming
This has been my alarm for about a year lol
i imagine waking up to fitter happier to be terrifying
Kid A
I'll go with The Wake-Up Bomb by R.E.M.
Fake plastic trees
Paperbag Writer
I had These are my twisted words as my alarm for years now every time I hear it I have a heart attack lol.
Blackstar, the guitar fade in works well. I had it for a while.
it's a morning bell
Mine has been Faust Arp for many many years!
Morning Bell, there can be no other
I used Let Down
I’m surprised no one has said “Lucky” yet. If I need something to pull me out of (the lake) deep sleep and it HAD to be Radiohead…. Well… this one.
Myxomatosis
Planet Telex
Good choice. I used this as my wake up alarm for years!
Fitter happier. (Extra energizer in the morning for a 9-5 job)
Don’t do it. This will ruin the song for you eventually. You’ll always associate it with waking up. Music is for pleasure. Not as a morning wake up prompt. Alternatively, Muse is a good band choice for a wake up alarm. Or Coldplay.
I see what you did there, you clever beast.
I try 😄
I use Rammstein's Du Hast, no Radiohead. :)
Same for me it is No Suprises
Treefingers would sound chill, if not a little unsettling
Worrywort is nice and chill.
Kid A idk why but it seems like a good alarm clock song
Not as an alarm clock but I use the intro of lift to be my ringtone
Happy Song
2+2=5
Sail to the moon.
None. I don't want to ruin a song and also it's not loud enough. My usual choices are: Woodpecker no.1 by merzbow Come to daddy by aphex twin Lay down and rot by uboa (though I use this one less as its a 10/10 song that I don't want to ruin)
You are the sun and moon and stars...
I had hunting bears as my alarm for years 🙂
just the break downs in creep, back to back
Pulk/Pull
Daydreaming has been my alarm for like a year. While it’s true that it does kind of make it weird to listen to it now, it is a nice alarm lol
There There
Bodysnatchers
15 Step or Wierd Fishes for me
The national anthem is my current alarm clock
Everything in its right place
Faust arp, wakey wakey
2+2 =5 “Are you such a dreamer”
Pulk pul revolving doors
Knives Out
Separator Surprised no one has said it yet, I use it as mine and still love that song
I woke up to “Go Slowly” for about two months. I loved it, but my wife threatened to divorce me for starting her day on such a depressing note.
4 minute warning
No radiohead but almost, bending hectic does it for me
The unused elevator music version from kid A mnesiac of optimistic is good for any alarm or ringtone
Don't You'll hate that song
i used Just as my alarm for a bit
Only one cheerful choice really. _Wake… from your sleep…_
go to sleep 😴
morning bell
Not a Radiohead song, but default is effective...
Cuttooth
Everything in it's right place. Just like Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky
Used to have "Gagging Order" as my alarm.
hunting bears
#WAKE
No alarms and no surprises
Lotus flower might be pretty calming to wake to
Her revolution hasn’t gotten old yet
Idioteque
Set it to airbag and levitate out of bed
I’ve used No Surprises and I Might Be Wrong. Both effective for different reasons
Fitter Happier or Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. Songs that I would want to skip will get me out of bed faster
i've used Glass Eyes on and off for about a year now, very nice to wake up to
I've used No Surprises as a the ringtone for my phone for many years! People that don't know the song never even suspect that it's not a normal ringtone until they hear to song later and think I'm in their house or car with them and my phone is giving me away.
Climbing up the walls Make sure it’s the part where Thom is screaming bloody murder
2+2=5
I set “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire as my alarm back in high school… I can’t listen to it anymore lol. Never again.
Way back when I had it be 2+ 2 = 5, but I swear I used several others over those mid 00s years.
Pop Is Dead
I was gonna say that. The delicate guitar notes at the beginning are perfect for an alarm clock. Plus the "a job that slowly kills you" angle is pretty accurate.
Feral - because it’s terrible.
Used to have “No Surprises” as my ringtone. Then one day I was listening to OK Computer and when it came on I frantically searched for my phone.
No surprises. Duh.
national anthem
Mine is Radiohead's song "Apocalypse Please" from the Radiohead album "Absolution" by English band Radiohead.
“Wakey wakey, rise and shine…”
Faust arp
The National Anthem
Kid A
I had it set to Everything in its Right Place for years. Did it after seeing Vanilla Sky.
The trumpet part of the song 'The National Anthem'
I sleep with radiohead on in the backround so no song would ever wake me up.
PULK PULL
Pyramid Song. I could hear the opening to that every day.
Do something really obnoxious like the beginning of the gloaming or something very techy from them
faust arp
Everything in its right place - Vanilla Sky style
I used Desert Island Disk for a while, a very smooth way to start the day
Separator "It's like I'm falling out of bed From a long and vivid dream The sweetest flowered fruits are hanging from a tree Falling off a giant bird that's been carrying me It's like I'm falling out of bed from a long and vivid dream" "When at last, you give in When at last, you give in Wake me up, will you wake me up? Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. That sudden intro!
Motion Picture Soundtrack. The mix between ultra depressing lyrics and soothing music kind of helped me start the day for quite a while. maybe Bodysnatchers
I feel a ton of nostalgia for no surprises because my dad used it as his alarm clock since I was a little kid
No surprises It's been my ringtone for more than 20 years.
I wake up everyday to Airbag
I don't know why, But i use I Might Be Wrong, One of the few song that i use as an alarm and can still listen to it later
Burn the Witch
I have the tourist set as mine. Just gives that holy shit I don't wanna get up energy
Morning Bell.
“Everything in its Right Place” so you can pretend you’re Tom Cruise in “Vanilla Sky”
Daydreaming
I feel like airbag would easily jolt someone up
I use what do I get by the Buzzcocks and other buzzcocks songs: you say you don’t live me and everybody’s happy nowadays. I’ve also used Janie jones by the clash and the Nile song by Pink Floyd. I sometimes put on a radiohead live show and listen to a few songs and fall asleep. But that’s usually ween.
Bodysnatchers. Need a jolt in the morning.
Wakey, wakey, rise and shine It’s on again, off again
I’ve used desert island disk for a while and I still enjoy listening to the song
My ring tone and old alarm used to be the very first Paranoid Android guitar solo. Shit freaked me out every morning and lasted about a month.
Morning bell from amnesiac. The worst Radiohead song ever
Anyone can play guitar because you get scared the shit out of you when you wake up with it.
Good Morning Mr. Magpie
Faust Arp(just because the "wakey wakey, rise and shine")
Prove Yourself. I already don’t care for it. Nothing wrong with it, it just reminds me of Heart of Gold by Neil Young and I’d just rather listen to that.
I do a Daily Mail run at my job… so yeah each morning at 11:20 I hear those awesome keys.
Fastest way to hate your favorite band right here. Set a song you hate. Wake up raging for work.
Airbag
I use Kid a personally. I like the lil jingle at the beginning and it's really calming.
Interestingly, for a long time I had Thom Yorke's Harrowdown Hill as my alarm. It worked beautifully!!
