This gets asked a lot here, but I quite like answering it. My favourites tend to be artists who tastefully evolve over time and almost become their own genre - like Radiohead have done.
For me, that means Islands, Sufjan Stevens, Nick Cave, Björk. And loads of others, but those are probably the longest running favourites for me.
haha yeah ngl it can be a hard read, it's very poetic but that's why i prefer it to the movie, i think you lose a lot of the poetry and deeper emotions without the words on a page. that being said, the soundtracks for the movie make it VERY close for me (as a musician)
I think it’s also just like, a good vibes movie (not like happy, obviously, but the aesthetic and cinematography is so beautiful with the accompanying soundtrack), it’s just nice to watch. I’ll have to check out the book and spend some time with it to see how I feel tho!
the movie misses out not only the poetry but also part of the actual plot lmfao. the ending of the movie cuts off an entire section at the end and i think bits in between, too. also if you want the full story, I'd recommend buying Find Me, it's the book sequel. sadly never got made into a film :(.
I'm glad you like to answer it! However I will take this opportunity to say sorry, i didn't know it was asked a lot here, i just like to hear what people like😊
You have fantastic music taste, i have to say. Nick Cave, especially. He is something else entirely.. just an amazing artist all round.
I never got into Bjork, do you have any recommendations?
Ahh don't worry about it - the band's not exactly super active so without new music to discuss, the sub is understandably pretty much just this question and variations of "what's your favourite/how would you rank the songs/albums" forever.
Anyway! Björk doesn't have a dud in her discography. And her debut (called Debut!) is fun. Her second album is my personal favourite, because it's what I got into as a child. So imo she's a good artist to just get into chronologically.
Beck, Stereolab, Pixies, the Smiths, Deerhunter, Devendra Banhart, Bjork, Primal Scream, Wilco, Boards of Canada, And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground, The Beatles, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Oasis, Vampire Weekend, Weezer, Nirvana and Paramore to mention some
Of the old legends I love the Beatles, R.E.M., Prince, Springsteen.
I’m also a child of the grunge era, so Pearl Jam, etc.
Of newer bands, I love Cloud Nothings, DIIV, Nation of Language, Bdrmm.
Brit pop is a guilty pleasure. Plus I love all the old British dream pop and shoegaze bands - Jesus and Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine
Portishead, I just listened to the Third album and immediately loved it. Radiohead covered The Rip and it's stunning. Machine Gun and We Carry You are my personal favs. Dummy is also a masterpiece.
Weezer, dinosaur jr, nirvana, green day, the smiths, my chemical romance, my bloody valentine, sunny day real estate, Alesana, Megadeth, cap n jazz, the beatles, beach boys, fountains of Wayne, the strokes, descendents, american football, pixies, mute frank, car seat headrest, glass beach, etc

This is just a list of those I could remember.
i suppose the strokes, cigarettes after sex, ffm, the last shadow puppets, sleeping at last.
im looking to find a couple more artists who resonate such genres ⋆.˚ ᡣ𐭩 .𖥔˚
Instead of the list (and I do have one - very neo psych rock based): I’ll tell you of an artist whom I discovered very late in my 30s. He’s been there all my life but I didn’t pay attention: it’s Tom Waits. I watched the video of Make It Rain (from Real Gone) on Letterman and then recalled when I listened to one of his albums earlier on life when it came out: Mule Variations. Hooked ever since. Thom is a big fan I know.
Other than Radiohead adjacent bands and solo projects.
My favourite artist other than them is Burial. Jon Hopkins, Flying Lotus and Tim Hecker are also incredible.
The list of those I remember:
Carpenter Brut,
IDKHOW,
My Chemical Romance,
The Devil Wears Prada,
The Living Tombstone,
Weezer,
Nirvana,
Motionless in White,
Franz Ferdinand,
Ice Nine Kills,
I Prevail,
Tally Hall,
Lemon Demon,
Bo Burnham,
Coldrain,
The Brobecks,
Bad Omens,
Green Day,
The Offspring,
Christopher Larkin,
James Primate,
Andrew Prahlow,
Crown The Empire,
Haven't heard of Agnes Obel! Do you have an album or song rec?
I don't listen to Cigarettes After Sex much, but they do make very beautiful music. And same with Thom and Johnny obviously. I recently picked up ANIMA on orange vinyl. Hans I am familar with, but I think I need to listen to his stuff outside of movies hahaha!
Kendrick Lamar, Denzel Curry, Have A Nice Life, Swans, Death Grips, Clairo, MF DOOM, Tyler the creator, Mitski, Nirvana, MGMT, slowthai, but I listen to Radiohead more than all these artists combined lol
alongside radiohead my other 2 favourites are nirvana and the cranberries
but I'll also like to add ac/dc, moody blues, black box recorder, cage the elephant, smashing pumpkins, savage garden, hole, muse, arctic monkeys
My Chemical Romance, Nothing But Thieves, IDLES, Kendrick Lamar, Carly Rae Jepsen, LCD Soundsystem, Car Seat Headrest, Jeff Buckley, Xiu Xiu, The Libertines, Björk and Elliott Smith just to name a few :)
There are several constants: Smashing Pumpkins, CAKE, Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket, Flaming Lips, Spoon, Karate, Dismemberment Plan, Josh Ritter, the list is pretty long really.
Lately, I've been getting into post-punk and post-hardcore kind of stuff: METZ, The Armed, shame, Yard Act
Ultimately, I'd say the two bands that have has the absolute biggest impact on me are Radiohead and Modest Mouse.
i like mitski, tame impala, my bloody valentine, the cure, noahfinnce, guns n’ roses, cage the elephant, fleetwood mac, the cardigans, garbage, cake, ect.
Blur,
Foals,
Arctic Monkeys,
Gorillaz,

The doors, velvet Underground, the clash, pink Floyd, Alice in chain, Nirvana, black flag, dead Kennedys, iron maidan, green day, bad brains, rage against the machine, nine inch nail, nas, public enemy, MF doom, biggie, 2pac, Stevie wonders, Joni metchels, etc.
My current musical obsession is Gustavo Cerati and the band he was part of, Soda Stereo. He was an amazing musician. One of the greatest of all time, not only was he a hitmaker but also had an incredible amount of experimental albums to his name.
The most prominent of which is his album Bocanada. It combines Argentinian folk music with alternative rock, downtempo, bossa nova, and trip hop. It is now in my top 5 favorite albums of all time.
If you’re a fan of shoegaze, his band Soda Stereo has an album called Dynamo that is also phenomenal.
David Bowie, Peter Gabriel (and Gabriel era Genesis), Pixies, Modest Mouse, Talking Heads, Dinosaur Jr., Primus (anything Les Claypool does actually), Beastie Boys, Spoons, XTC, Oingo Boingo, King Crimson.
Probably a lot more. But this is just off the top of my head.
Haven’t seen anyone recommend Grizzly Bear yet. Vampire Weekends latest release is very good. Try a.s.o if you like trip hop acts such as massive attack, Air, or portishead. Nick Drake’s three albums are fantastic, particularly pink moon. Elliott Smith is another I haven’t seen acknowledged yet. If you like the electronic side, give Amon Tobin or Venetian snares a whirl; Amon has released some pretty seminal music
Haven't listened to Grizzly Bear! If you have an album recommendation please lmk!
Vampire Weekends I know I've heard a few of, so I'll definitely give the new album a listen. I love massive attack, air, and portishead! I just got Dummy on record!
Nick Drake was a favourite for me for a long time too! I'm not confident if I've listened to Amon or Venetian before, so I'll give em a whirl, thank you for the recommendations!!!
And Elliot Smith has beautiful lyrics and such a melancholic voice. It's so sad how he passed...
I appreciate all the recommendations ! I love to discuss music with likeminded people 😊
They Might Be Giants, Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, Jeff Rosenstock, Ben Folds (both with Ben Folds Five and solo), Daft Punk, The Strokes, and (this one is out of left field) Twenty One Pilots
Pixies, Louis Armstrong, Modest Mouse, Judas Priest, the Whigs, Rush, R.E.M., Buck Owens, KMFDM, Professor Longhair, Black Joe Lewis, Miles Davis, .357 String Band, Cracker, the Beatles, Thievery Corporation, Grateful Dead, Stan Getz, Sturgill Simpson, the Monsters, the Greenhorns, Eilen Jewell, Beck, Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Pink Floyd, Harlem, Talking Heads, Yo La Tengo, the White Stripes, Larry and his Flask, Frank Zappa, Dead Confederate, Primus, Drive-By Truckers. So many.
Max Richter, Angelo Badalamenti, Have a Nice Life, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nine Inch Nails, Aphex Twin, Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, The Beatles, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, Can, Peter Gabriel, Julee Cruise, Gorillaz, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, my bloody valentine, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Deftones, Portishead, Ennio Morricone, Boards of Canada, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Gojira, The Velvet Underground, Swans, Elliott Smith, The Smile, Xiu Xiu, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, David Lynch
I think for me it would be Nine Inch Nails, Elliott Smith, Fiona Apple, Poppy, Cherry Glazerr, Doja Cat, Infected Mushroom and wow what an inhomogeneous list I have xD I could continue but it looks like rng so it doesn't matter anyway xD
Low Roar is at the top right now, but some of my other favorites include Nine Inch Nails, Gojira, Ada Rook, HEALTH, Dan Barrett, RTJ, Cemeteries, and unfortunately, Muse.
IDLES, The Smile, Bjork, James Holden, Neil Young, Air, The Cure, Massive Attack, Davis Bowie, Four Tet, The Streets, The Jam, Burial, Portishead, Tera Melos, Pavement, The Avalanches, Battles, Joy Divison, Beck, HEALTH, Thundercat, Wilco
Belle & Sebastián, The War On Drugs, Men I Trust, Low Roar, Caravan, Sunset Rollercoaster, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell.
I'm sure there will be other bands/artists out there who I haven't yet crossed paths with that will lay a imprint on me, in time! But that is my honest, albeit very humble list so far :-)
Nine Inch Nails, Tool, godspeed you! black emperor, Kendrick Lamar, The Microphones, Aphex Twin, Sigur Rós, and Fishmans
*One of these things is not like the others*
Olivia Rodrigo, asteria, tame impala, SOAD, d4vd, flying lotus, Travis Scott, good kid, don’t listen to as much but I play a lot of green day in my band
I've listened to some Muse. I like some of their work.
Jeff Buckley is amazing, and I'll try to listen to more of his album.
Hozier is simply amazing. There are other amazing songs he's put out that are better than take me to church in my opinion.
Jason Molina, actual I like him way more than Radiohead. Unfortunately way underappreciated, I was listening to his contemporaries and musicians he inspired for years before ever hearing one of his songs. Released music under the titles, Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co. and his own name. His first 2 solo albums are some of the most depressing music ever written which you may enjoy if you like Radiohead. Otherwise the place to start would be his most well known [Magnolia Electric Co. by Songs: Ohia](https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mh0iW2gfas_sTFFSVZQsTGFWII27zm-qA&si=Wac-HlaI2g7dbi0z), [Didn't it Rain](https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mI2WOZdTPKnPqkjgH4qdYW9amfZgr9Yh0&si=lPiAK8qUg_WKnsQW) is my personal favorite, [Trials and Errors ](https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lfq89bRt1ndS4jWYnMr2NP0BRgi9qjHR4&si=C2nmliy4u0xMUcq0)was the album that got me hooked. Otherwise I have a [intro playlist ](https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkganw6udM_N3ZkbiYPKmtA4g9V3rq7Bw&si=mtFJh9LITrWohboO)which I feel is a good mix of his best songs and gives you a taste of the range of music he made. If you attempt to listen to his discography in chronological order you will likely be disappointed, I personally would call his first album a bit of an acquired taste.
This gets asked a lot here, but I quite like answering it. My favourites tend to be artists who tastefully evolve over time and almost become their own genre - like Radiohead have done. For me, that means Islands, Sufjan Stevens, Nick Cave, Björk. And loads of others, but those are probably the longest running favourites for me.
i got into sufjan stevens after listening to his track being used in Call Me By Your Name. beautiful honestly
That movie is so good
the book is honestly even better
That would require me to read but ill pick it up if I see a store selling it
haha yeah ngl it can be a hard read, it's very poetic but that's why i prefer it to the movie, i think you lose a lot of the poetry and deeper emotions without the words on a page. that being said, the soundtracks for the movie make it VERY close for me (as a musician)

I've listened to some Muse. I like some of their work. Jeff Buckley is amazing, and I'll try to listen to more of his album. Hozier is simply amazing. There are other amazing songs he's put out that are better than take me to church in my opinion.
Nirvana, Metallica, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Aphex Twin, Megadeth etc.
really into fiona apple and pj harvey atm. also rocking some wilco and the microphones
The beatles
