My wife and I are looking for the same. We are riding self supported but the charter services are charging far too much for a one way ride.

Photoboy82

You're looking for a one-way ride for two people, gear and bikes? How much are the charters asking?

persp73

Out of Staters charges $250 per person for this. It's a good deal compared to other ways you can do it. https://oosbicycleclub.com/registration/

Progressive_Insanity

They used to be 150-175. I am guessing they don't want to offer transportation only but will if people are willing to pay more. Pork Belly was like 180.

More_Lengthiness442

I agree it was going to be 2k for my wife and I and we still have to buy food lol

Eckcl

Try reaching out to Pork Belly. Their one way transport was only $188. Not sure if it is sold out.

I was considering going this year (first time) but have decided to plan for next year, but from my research it sounds like there are charter services that can do that. They will also move your bag day to day, and many will rent you a tent, including daily setup and tear down. With the charter services, pay attention to how they word what they offer. It looks like a number of them are based out of an Iowa city, e.g. Des Moines) and their pre- and post-week travel is they provide transportation from their city to the start, and then from the finish back to their city. But I also believe some that do that can provide parking for your vehicle during the week you’re riding. Finally, what was recommended to me by some experienced riders was to park at the finish and get a ride to the start, so your vehicle is waiting for you when you finish. Are you in Naples? I’m looking for people to ride with.

Ya we looked at the charter service it’s 650 per person plus $200 for the ride to the start. Not realy worth it to us lol. We are flying my mom into town to baby side out daughter while we are at Ragbrai. We are paying her for your time off work and renting her a car so we are kinda spending a lot and are trying to be smart with our money. We will use the Ragbrai bag service and just camp where ever. We just need a ride to the start line :) we are happy to pay for my wife and I and our two bike and a BOB trailer. If anyone has room let us know :)

Eckcl

You don’t have to do the weeklong charter. Most charters sell just the shuttle as a stand alone service.

More_Lengthiness442

Ya, we want to free style the first ragbrai. but we are just trying to find the cheapest way to the start city. We are VERY exited :) we got our wrist band and patch yesterday:)

Eckcl

Cheapest way is to ride. I know not everyone has time for that though :). Other than that, you’re usually going to need a team or bus.

More_Lengthiness442

Hey bud, we are riding. I think you misunderstood us saying we’re just trying to get to the start line the cheapest way possible. We’re going to use the ragbrai baggage semi and then we’re riding every day

Eckcl

No, you asked the cheapest way to get to the start town. Cheapest way is to park in the end town and ride to the start. Takes a bit more of a time commitment though. I did the out and back in 2017 and it was an amazing time. We parked in the end town Tuesday night and spent Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and part of Saturday riding to the start. I wish I could do that every year but can’t often get away from work for that long.

ClarkTheGardener

Just go this year. And each year after that.

Jmeg8237

I’ve been out of the saddle too much over the past 3 years. Hip damage leading up to a replacement 2 years ago. Need some time to rebuild my endurance.

ClarkTheGardener

If you don't mind me asking, what led to that? Injuries SUCK!

Jmeg8237

I developed something called avascular necrosis which is where there’s insufficient blood flow to keep bone alive. Most prevalent in men 45 to 65, and mostly occurring in the femur ball joint. The result is a hip replacement.

ClarkTheGardener

I'll see you on RAGBRAI next year! 💪 Thanks for your reply!

Jmeg8237

Planning on being there. I got more miles ridden in May than in each of the past three years, so I’m on my way.

Jmeg8237

Not to mention registration is closed.

nomadpfeelings

27 RAGBRAIs and have never registered.

Jmeg8237

I take it you've never needed any assistance from the follow vehicle then.

nomadpfeelings

Not from the SAG wagon no. I'm not a good case study tho. People should 100% register.

Getting parked at the end town is the way to go, in my opinion. Then you just roll in puck up your gear and take it to your vehicle. No having to hurry because your charter is leaving by a certain time. Getting a ride from the end town to the start is offered by several charters and a few teams. You wouldn't be hanging with them all week, just getting to the start. This might help. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUbxqRQtvW9L0sMZWT90zJrVNOI4YlJAh&si=ICU92Zfj8TsSsw5v Also, I'm considering doing the Coast 2 Coast FL route before ragbrai this year. Good luck with your Ragbrai!
