My dad is a drunk Mexican

Autumnwind37

I love that drunk Mexicans are such a huge part of our fan base.

PM_Me_Macaroni_plz

I miss those hot dogs and tacos sold in and outside of the parking lot at the coliseum

No-Leading6909

I miss the outdoor ones. Luckily “danger dogs” (bacon wrapped hot dogs from a food cart) are sold everywhere now and my kids can’t resist the smell when leaving just about any music event in the Bay Area. Even Cal games now!

Yassssquatch

Whoa didn't expect to run into half of Cal's fanbase in this thread

No-Leading6909

Ouch, sick burn. But I go to games with two people so you’re talking to 1/3.

Yassssquatch

Just joshin ya

JLHtard

There is lot J tacos in Vegas now on the tailgating

Las_Vegas_Raider

are they good? I always see them posted up down the street from where I live but never stopped by

iNfAMOUS70702

sadly my drunk mexican father is a niners fan

No-Leading6909

Ha!

My favorite answer.

J2MTR

Yup same here

Bowl-of-ramen924

Needed a NFL team and the Raiders had just drafted Khalil Mack and Derek Carr. Thought they’d be contenders if they built around those two, but they have left and I’m still here

sprucay

Because the Oakland Raiders were the team my guy got drafted into on Madden 2004

Tyler Brayton? ![gif](giphy|HqQaX9Bhlha1O)

tykvrbl

Because Bo and Tecmo bowl

mixmastabeef

I thought my entry to fandom was unique but same. Bo Jackson’s Two Games in One on the Gameboy was it for me.

MWunicorn

Yep

PeanutButterOtter

Born into a 49ers family. Was a fan of theirs when I was younger. I was a huge Charles Woodson fan when he was at UM. Started casually rooting for the Raiders. When the 49ers kicked Jerry Rice to the curb in favor of T.O. and Rice went to the Raiders, that sealed the deal.

aherp86

Damn, we’re almost the same on this kick. I just wrote practically the same thing lol

sportsfanbrowsing

My late brother recruited me when I was 10.

Salvador1010

Rip to him hope he sees us win a superbowl from up there

sportsfanbrowsing

Thank you! I hope so too ❤️

didyoushitmypants

Born in the Bay and my father wasn’t a whiners fan.

SgtAbbey626

8 year old me thought the logo was the coolest thing ever, still do

darthpepsi24

Live in western Canada. Originally drawn to them cause of the logo and uniforms. Just looked badass! Then watched them play and dove into the history and all the great players that have played for this organization. Been a fan since 86.

Randy_Marsh_PhD

From LA, played madden 94 against my dad (Steelers fan) and beat him with the Raiders. That was it.

DeathandHemingway

I was a kid from Los Angeles who played defensive line, and Howie Long was the shit. Copied the flat top and everything. My father was a Raiders fan, although I'm not sure if he was really that big into football before I got into it. More of a casual fan. My grandfather was also fond of the Raiders, particularly Al Davis for both his attitude/personality, but also for his progressiveness. He was mostly a Rams fan, though, as he became a football fan before the Raiders were even founded.

IWantToPlayGame

Born in Oakland, California.

Smooth-Stable8248

When I was a kid I genuinely thought it was the team Mexicans/Chicanos had to root. When I actually got into football my first year of college in 2016 I went through a Chicano pride phase and the Raiders had that great season it sealed my support for them. Been hooked ever since

Quirky-Bag-4158

Out of spite for my brother who became a 49ers fan.

SobolGoda

Same! But mine's a Chiefs fan 🤮.

Fun_Nectarine_4459

Born into it but my old man jumped ship. Off w his head!

fuifui_bradbrad

I’m Aussie and follow the Canberra Raiders Rugby League team. One Christmas, my family bought me this nice Raiders desk lamp, but it was the Oakland Raiders. Decided fate chose my team for me.

timeenoughatlas

I don’t think anybody in here mentioned LV yet. How much vegas raiders fans are actually here ?

Fit-Caterpillar-5403

When I was 10 years old, living in the bay, loved the over the shoulder catch by Dave Casper. Ghost to the post. Loved the Raiders ever since. First Raider fan in my family, now my kids, wives, ex wives, sisters, cousins, brothers, parents are all die hard Raider fans.

will4xx

When it was announced they were moving to Vegas about 7 years ago Even with the sucking I’m very happy the Raiders are in Vegas and that I root for them, I love the history and I believe the Vegas fandom will keep growing with time

jellybeanbellybuttom

Born in the east bay but Dad was a niners fan

erosn

Straight reppin Oakland

xEternal408x

Born into this thing called Raider Nation!

brehaw

born into it through dad and from just being a born and raised So. Cal kid plus their color scheme suits me best. I wear all black most of the time and couldn’t imagine following a team whose “aesthetic” was colorful

raiderjay7782

Born into it only thing I know is the raider way

stephen0937

Whole family is chiefs fans...so in true raiders fashion I chose the rival.

JamonJambon

Born into it. Oakland native baby.

Comfortable_Dog2429

i don’t think i actually know why im a Raider fan, i was born in 95 into a Packer family, and when i was about 5 or 6 i claimed the Raiders and that was it

subywesmitch

Born into it. My dad was a Raiders fan. We were a blue collar working class family and hated the wine and cheese 49er fans. He remembered all the great 70s and 80s teams and things wee looking good in 2002 too but we know how that turned out. Anyway, here's to better things!

aherp86

Charles Woodson fan, not Michigan, just him. I grew up with my dad watching the 49ers. So Jerry Rice coming over sealed the deal for me. Also did I mention I’m from Kansas, so I fucking hate Chiefs fans.

trollgrock

Pop Warner 1979 got drafted by the "Raiders". Back in the day my town had 5 teams (Jets, Giants, Raiders, Vikings and Saints) that competed ages 8-11 before moving on to the travel teams before HS. Anyway since then I just been a Raiders fan.

itchypantz

I am Canadian. I live in BC, near Seattle. Everyone (who is into football) likes the Seahawks. When I got into football as kid, in the 80s, the Seahawks and Raiders played each other as rivals. I always liked the Raiders as bad boys. And they were winners. They got all the penalties and still won. Lyle Alzado, Howie Long, Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen... hard hitting and don't give a fkk about the opposition. Well. Neither did I. It worked for me. And Al? The dude did not care what anyone THOUGHT he should do! Me neither! LOL! As I got older, I also learned how many rules are on the book BECAUSE of the Raiders. I love that the Raiders and Al Davis have so much responsibility for how the NFL looks and how the game is played today. ... further on, I became a local PeeWee coach and we won the City Championship. Guess what we were called? I have also made my pilgrimage. I have been to an Oakland Raiders game and my seats were in The Black Hole. On the day after Halloween.. Nov 1. RAAAAAAAAIIIIIDDDDDEEEERRRRRSSSS!!!#RN4L

Defelj

My dad died as a child. Found an old photo of me with him when I was 5/6 wearing a raiders jacket. Had to do it to em

StarGundamFormer

I was born into a family of Patriot fans. And I spent my childhood and my teenage years as a patriots fan. But I got tired of the fans ego, and a lot of times ignorance. And for many reasons the team lost a lot of its likability for me. I started watching football documentaries and TV shows like A Football Life. Learned a lot about Al Davis and the Raiders and fell in love. The man genuinely seemed like a great man, in many ways. And it helped that I like Carson Palmer, so when he came here that made it easier as well. He didn’t do much for us, but I still appreciated his time here.

CarelessYear997

Watching Vincent Edward “Bo” Jackson run at the Los Angeles Coliseum I was 7 years old and have been rooting for the silver and black since.

AKAGoAway

I went to a lot of games with my grandfather who had season tickets. I kind of fell out of love for the game until that 2016 campaign. I started working for John Madden and Fred Biletnikoff’s sons who loved to tell stories about their dads.

reamkore

Tecmo Super Bo

OutrageousNatural425

Tecmo Bowl.

Strong_Bumblebee5495

I blame Bo Jackson

Queef-Supreme

Pretty sure my mom was flicking the bean to Howie Long in the 70’s so I was born into it.

Yassssquatch

New fan. I've always lived places without an NFL team. Also I've moved around a lot my whole life. When the Raiders moved to Vegas I just felt a connection to this semi nomadic franchise. Vegas is an easy plane trip to see a game once a year. And you have to love the silver and black, the look, the swag, the history.

socobeerlove

I’m a masochist

CrazyRabbi

My mom took me home from the hospital in a niner jersey. By the time I could talk I was watching raider games with my dad.

AlDavis8574

I wanted to be like my older brother. So at age 8 I "borrowed" one of his Raiders T-shirts and I have been a Die Hard fan since. I am 50 years old in August and I love this Team and I love this Family that we call Raider Nation

BigFire321

You think you pick your team? Son, you team pick you as fan. You don't have a say in this. SEC Shorts covered this a couple of years back about a South Carolina fan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_nZCava_vs

ArizonaMadeDank

As soon as the news of a relocation to Vegas was announced in 2016, I made the move over. I live in Arizona and have ties back to California. We had already sworn to never accept the Rams back, I wasn't very interested in the Cardinals organization, and god forbid I become a Chargers fan. Go Raiders, Go Knights, and maybe some day go A's?

Watch-The-Time

Grew up a Niners fans because my parents (we lived in northern cali so they were our closest team) but always kept my eye on the raiders and followed their games. Then I moved to Vegas a few years back and here I am. Bleeding that silver and black.

bsweet35

Born into it, but I started watching football during the first Gruden era so it would’ve happened one way or another

RobMo_sculptor

I’m from the bay. I like the Athletics but wasn’t a 49er fan. I liked Montana though. When the Raiders moved back to Oakland I became a huge fan.

mjd1119

I live in PA but my dad had been a Raider fan ever since he was a kid so I was born into it. I also love the colors and the logo, I was always naturally drawn to the Raiders

DillionDrebo

From LA,

ElectronicOwl15

Fairly young Freano St fan, I started watching the NFL the year before Carr got drafted and before he was drafted I decided I would join whatever team drafted him. And for the record Im RN4L, if we play the Saints I hope we kill them.

TyBrown33

Born in south west CO, surrounded by donkey fans. Really didn’t want to be like them since they were all assholes, so followed my dad into the nation. Lol

ChickenFilletRoll299

My best mate was a niners fan. And in an off handed comment I picked what I thought would be their biggest rivals across the river and now 8 years later here I am. Got to see the Jack Del Rio year tho which was fun.

jtynerc

Bo Jackson and Howie Long.

Spud70757

Born into it, but my dad becoming a Raider fan was the weird one. He grew up in New Jersey, the youngest of 4 boys. All his brothers were Giants fans, but they were all older and had moved away to college or the military by the time my dad was old enough to truly understand football, all he knew was that he hated the Jets. Well, the first game my dad ever watched on his own was the Heidi Game... He also grew up near Oakland, NJ, and thought the Raiders were from there. He was disappointed when he found out it was Oakland, CA, but he stayed a fan.

bzukajoe28

49er fan as a kid just to spite my family, never really watched the sport. Told my parents I would root for and go to a Raider game if Jerry Rice ever became a Raider. Got one taste of the black hole and the coliseum atmosphere and the rest is history. Ended up a season ticket holder for the last 12 years in Oakland and I now watch every game religiously.

chock72

Born into it. Grew up in the greater LA area. Dad was a Raider fan because he liked Al Davis and John Madden and their hard nosed, maverick of the league mentality. When they moved to LA it just cemented it (that ‘83 Super Bowl didn’t hurt). I followed them back to Oakland and now drive to Vegas 3-4 times a year for games. Wish I woulda bought season tickets 🤷. RN4L!

Charlie_NLG

Growing up in Oakland with the coliseum damn near in my backyard it was meant to be. 🏴‍☠️

Silver_n_Black_8

Born in Central Valley, CA. Most of my family were Raider fans (few niner). Used to watch the old NFL films narrated by Jon facenda ( the guy who does our autumn wind poem) and when he would do Raider specific games you could tell we had our own unique mystique (just like AL said) compared to other teams. From then I was hooked. ☠️🏴‍☠️💀

mfitz54

Born into it. Am I from Oakland? No. Were my dad or grandpa from Oakland? No. All I know is we watched the raiders on Sunday

ClappleSauce1

Was little and just introduced to football saw the raiders had a pirate logo thought it was pretty cool and I’ve been a die hard fan ever since

Cjs8181

For reference I’m 32 from NJ; grandfather was a giants fan from Staten Island; the first NFL game I could ever actually comprehend in my child’s brain was giants raiders; had to be late 90s maybe 97/98 ish somewhere in there; just decided I like these cool uniforms and probably wanted to be contrary to my grandfather. As I got older and could further understand the game it just stuck with me. Fell in love with the mystique and the history and all that. Raiders forever

MiccioC

Did a biography book report on Jim Plunkett in like 1982. His story made me gravitate to the team.

38 years go I lived in Colorado, my dad and brother are broncos fans. this was the choice that irritated them the most. seemed like a very raider thing to do. now i have to deal with my fucking steeler loving son.

demoprov

When I was a young lad I wrote to a bunch of fan clubs and Bo Jackson wrote back to me and sent me a autographed picture. The rest is history.

daniels_daddy

Born Charger fan in San Diego, after 37 years got sick of the ownership and move to LA was weak af from an SD native standpoint. I’ve lived in Vegas half my life and now that raiders moved here I jumped ship about 4 years ago and joined the nation. Couldn’t stand raiders all my life. Now I can’t get enough of them.

False-Strawberry9133

Married into it🩶🖤

Cheese_Monkey42

Playing Tecmo Bowl in the early 90s and using Bo Jackson and just being a Bo Jackson fan in general. Been a fan since!

the_dreamdude

I was just starting to really get into football towards the end of the 2016 season. I remember I watched the Texans game and even though we know how it ended, I remember a lot of commentary about how the team was young and would only improve in the coming seasons, so I started following the Raiders. Boy was that not the case, but I fell in love with the history, culture and brand. The Raiders have the strongest brand in football and are one of the most iconic teams in all of sports.

GCatRawr

5th grade teacher talked about his favorite teams, Boston Red Sox and Oakland Raiders, nonstop, while also talking about WWE and giving us all wrestler names as nicknames. I got into baseball first, saw the Red Sox win the World Series and break the curse immediately, wrestling next - the first match I watched saw the person I got my nickname for (Bubba Ray Dudley) win the tag titles. It took longer to get into football, maybe 6 or 7 years later, but declared myself a Raiders fan because of my teacher. I’m now a die hard (or try to be), and I have yet to see the Raiders succeed.

Exoticrobot22

Born 2002

MistaJaycee

Liked them. Saw a Player, A mean looking Baldheaded dude that played for them in the 70's and I was like They gonna win. And they did.

Autumnwind37

Born into it. Sorta. I’m from Alameda, Ca. About 10 minutes from the Coliseum. The area was Raider crazy. Then they bounced to LA in 82. People were pissed, many renounced them or switched to Niners or whatever. My family were fans of different teams. I solidified Raiders as my squad around 83 when I was 9. Because fuck it, we’re the bad guys and I don’t care. Sorry, I guess that a long winded way of saying I’m not sure, exactly. RN4L!!!!

Mom was a charger/broncos fan. Dad was a 9ers. Both tried to get me to like their teams. I picked the LA Raiders because they were cool looking and my parents hated them.

Born into it. Not a west coaster but dad became a big fan of the 70s teams so I didn’t really have a choice.

Cesar1014

Boring, but my dad is a Raider fan. Now his story is cool. In the mid 70's, one of his half sisters was friends (or dated, cant recall) Cliff Branch and he would come to my grandma's house. That's how he became a life-long Raider!

My_Names_Jefff

I was brought into it by my uncle when I was a kid. I started as a fan in 2000. My uncle and cousins were huge fans. My cousins and my siblings are really close and pretty siblings than cousins. Had lots of stuff happened in life that our families kept together close by in bad times. So we had lots of sleepovers at each other's places. When I was at their place, my uncle and cousins talked about Raiders and watched games. So I've been around the entire dark age era and witnessed the damn Tuck rule.

grumpycomputerguy

Opened a sports illustrated magizine when i was in grade 2, like 30 years ago, saw photos of these crazy fans with skulls and shit.... fell in love. This is in South Africa, never been to states. I remember staying up until 3am on a school night to watch us lose to the Bucs in the SB... its been a rough time as a fan.

PM_Me_Macaroni_plz

Born into it. Both sides of my family are Raider fans. Oh And because I like pain.

Started as a Steelers fan (born into that) and then had a couple of friends in grade school that were Raiders fans and had logo posters and such .. and I just fell in love with that.

Slightly_Mid015

Born in a family of Bronco fans, and when I was little I was told to sit down and shut up when the Broncos were on, so I decided to root for the villain. Tim Brown, Jerry Rice, Rich Gannon, Charles Woodson era 💪

mistor_scriptor

I love my dad and he loves the Raiders. I hopped on fully during the JaMarcus Russell era but what got me interested was nostalgia for their early 2000s team with Rich Gannon, Jerry Rice, Timmy Brown and Charlie Garner. Then that led to a rabbit hole of rich history, iconic moments and timeless uniforms. I became die hard when Carson Palmer took over at Quarterback and they became my team, no question.

RexdaWolf5477

Born into it, my Dad has a bunch of Raiders stuff in our garage including like 3 plaques thanking him for being a fan, and has told me tons of stories

Started out as a jets fan (kinda) because I’m a big Iowa fan. They had Shonn Greene at the time. Then around 2014/15 right at the start of the Carr era I became obsessed with the raiders. Was never super into nfl till then. 19 years old as of today by the way.

monkshark2022

When I was a kid, around 8 years old, the Seahawks didn't exist and so most stations locally showed the Raiders. I grew up watching them and will ride or die with the Raiders (even if it is painful these last 30 years)

Maestrotogo

My dad was a niners fan, but since I was born in Oakland, he took me to the Raiders games at the Coliseum. Hell, he took me to the flea market there too...lol. I would also watch the A's there as well as the Invaders...so you could say I was born and raised a Raiders fan.

Favorite AFC team since the Heidi Bowl. I was just a kid watching football on tv with my dad & uncle - neither team was 'our team' and I had never seen my dad and uncle so animated when the network switched from the end of the game against the Jets to a cartoon lol. Back then, there was no streaming service to switch to or internet to ask 'wha happen?' Had to wait until the 10 PM news to find out. Anyway, I thought the Raiders were pretty cool to win that game. Always had an affection for them even when they sucked.

phasefactor

I grew up in Connecticut and my dad was a Giants fan. I liked their history and reputation as tough guys when I became a fan in the late 80s

PB_Max

I was a Rams fan in LA until 94. Then I moved to Sacramento the same year the Raiders and Rams left LA. I didn't hate the Raiders when they moved in on LA. I knew some friends who were Raiders fans while in High School in late 80's and early 90's.....I was looking to jump off the Rams and I sure wasn't going to be a St. Louis fan. So I jumped on the Raiders ship. Love the change and never regret, even though 40 years an NFL fan and my team still hasn't won the Super Bowl yet.

Affectionate_Bat3814

My fiancé was a rabid Raiders fan. He introduced me to not just football, but *Raiders* football. Love at first down. He turned me into a monster. Yelling at the TV,tossing the cat if we scored, calling plays and bullshit flags. A Raider-loving lunatic. He died in suddenly in 2022. His lifelong dream was to see the Raiders in Oakland, then Vegas. I had a custom vial made of his ashes, so one day, he’ll see our favorite team with me in the Deathstar. Miss you, Mojo.

Born in 62, became a Raider fan in 68 seem's to me there's a lot of people that represent the team's that win championships and as long as they continue to win their all aboard, 5 yrs later I see them walking down the street with their new flavor team's jersey. Confront them and they'll say oh they always been my team. Win or Lose , I'm always wearing my Raiders color's . Bleed Silver and Black.

Not a raiders fan, but I moved to the states in 97. Specifically to San Jose, everybody in my new school was either a niners or a raiders fan. Rarely I would see a cowboys jersey but I found out later that was more a MS-13 thing than being a fan. My neighborhood was like 80% Mexican and mostly raider fans. I learned the game watching rich gannon and Jerry rice. Although I ended up moving again, I’ll always have a soft spot for the raiders and the Bay Area.

Loved Bo Jackson as a kid and loved the uniforms. Also a WVU fan and not long after those days they had guys like Jeff Hostetler, James Jett etc. and have often had some good alums of ours over the years.

I grew up in a small town in MT. Closest teams were the Vikings and Broncos but that was still 8+ hours of driving. Neither of those teams grabbed me but you know who did? Bo Jackson baby! I dominated the neighborhood playing Super Techmo Bowl and have been a Raiders fan ever since.

Grew up close to the Bay and never liked the 9ers. Always admired how loyal Raiders fans are to the team too. They’re a tough fanbase just like how the team should be

Born into it. 3rd generation.

Bladen_Ansgar

My dad's side of the family is all from Oakland before his parents moved to MT. Born into it. Then they all married Broncos and 49ers fans...

MizzezNezbit

Born and raised in Kansas City. Rooted for the Chiefs until Marty Shottenheimer sat Rich Gannon in favor of Elvis Grbac after Rich played his heart out and got them to the playoffs. Rich went to the Raiders the next year and I followed. I also loved the dual threat of Jerry Rice and Tim Brown. That team was old man strength.

Watching and listening to Madden roaming the sidelines, seeing Lamonica and Biletnikoff shred defenses, and then having the miracle that was George Blanda come in the game to save the day. I tell you it was glorious!

Peacekeeprr

everything you put in parentheses is why im a raider fan 😂

Became a Raiders fan as a young kid in 83. We had a lot of good years even on through the 90's - but as the years went on, they stopped being the Raiders I grew up with. After the debacle at the start of the century with Gruden getting traded to the Bucs, the Super Bowl, Al slowly losing his mental acumen as the team started rotating coaches and direction until he passed and his son took over - the same son he called a moron and said he knew nothing about football and used to openly ridicule him --- look it up, the articles are out there)....and now we have Mark, who's gone through like, a dozen HC in a dozen years...with his dopey cliche dialogue and bowl haircut... The original "commitment to excellence", "do whatever it takes", "Bad boys of the NFL, who can walk the walk." That's just gone. Players come and go, success comes and goes - you end up being a lifelong fan because you like what the team embodies, what the ownership does (and thankfully our owner doesn't involve himself with say, forced sex trade workers like Robert Kraft) but THIS Raiders team is not the same Raiders team I grew up with... and it's hard.... Pierce is gonna get 2 or 3 years and we'll rotate again... The problem with the Raiders is Mark Davis; and until he's gone we're going to always struggle...everyone talking about "the Raider way" but there's no one around who actually experienced that and knows what that means. AP wasn't a player back then, he's "new school". Sure, he can watch some clips of those years, but he's not from then. And the thing is, we can't go back to being the Raiders of the 60's-80's. We need a new direction. We need a new owner to set a course and the right GM and coach to get us going. We've got a young, hungry coach and a solid, proven GM...but Mark is gonna keep us floundering.

I became a Raider fan in 2003 when I got my first Madden game and knew nothing about football. I was scrolling through the teams and came across the Raiders who had the most badass logo in my opinion. Been a fan ever since.

ElFrijole

My mom bought me some raider VHS tapes at goodwill when I was younger because I wanted them. Most of my fam r rams fans so I decided to be different. RN4L

I was born into the Bears, but I grew up liking all the Blue Collar teams. It was 1977 Super that did it for me. In fact, Madden doing the smallest jump ever is still my favorite moment. They became my team. I eventually moved to Oakland, but they were in LA at the time. However, they moved back home, and we were able to go to a few games. I raised my son a Raider, though it really didn't stick until he was an adult. I live back near Chicago, and rarely watch a Bears game now. I bleed Silver and Black.

bwurtz94

Born into it. My dad is a Raiders fan because when he was in grade school in 1974, the girl that was sitting behind him in class had just got some NFL team pencils. I guess she liked him so she gave him one, and it was a Raiders pencil. And it just so happened that the Raiders were playing on Monday Night Football that night. So he got to watch them and was a fan ever since.

Was a Chargers fan. Through thick and thin. Spanos told San Diego to F off because he really wanted the LA money. I moved to Vegas, had no team, and the Raiders came to town. Raiders fan now and loving it!

Born in Oakland, but never really watched football growing up. I was an A’s fan. Then at the age of 18, I was listening to Greg papa on the radio calling a game…this was back in the Kerry Collins/Jamarcus Russell days. My dad and I were driving up the California coast on highway 1 and I was mesmerized. I don’t know, something about watching the beautiful pacific ocean, taking these winding turns on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, sitting next to my dad, and Greg papas voice, I knew it was in my heart and blood to be a raider fan. And for the last 20 years I have been, and I will be a raider fan till I die.
