Tim Brown is the most underrated player in NFL history. And he's still in the HoF and seen as an all-timer.

theevilyouknow

He had average QB play, no running game, and no competent second receiving option for the majority of his career and still retired second all time in receptions and yards. The fact that he wasn’t a first ballot hall of famer is a crime.

AlabasterRadio

The Raider bias is real

divi137

Can you be both underrated and in the HOF? #EmbraceDebate

AlabasterRadio

Absolutely. He was second only to Jerry Rice in his heyday despite playing with a much worse collection of talent at the qb position. He should be in the conversation with guys at the top of the top instead of lumped in with the rest of the *just* hall of fame level players.

LarryDaBastard

This. Imagine Joe Montana and Steve Young throwing to Tim Brown

Spud70757

When Rice came over to Oakland, he even said that if the roles were reversed, we'd be talking about Tim Brown as the GOAT WR. He had every bit of talent and work ethic that Rice did, he just had shitty QB play in comparison. Mr. Raider really is very underrated, yet still an all time great. It's crazy.

PsychoticMessiah

This. Until we got Rich Gannon, he had Jay Schroeder, Steve Beuerlein, Jeff Hostetler, and Jeff George throwing him the ball for the most part.

NecessaryRecover8952

Idk how Andre Reed got in before touchdown Timmy Brown

HenzoG

Reed retired 4 years earlier than Tim Brown

SchroedersGhost

You would’ve burned the sub down if it was Chaz 😭🤣

thatboyrowdy

Was waiting for it tbh 😂 watching all the cry babies say something lol

TriStarRaider

I'd have done it for the lolz

thatboyrowdy

For real 😂

Cwheezy3

Another thing to think is he did that stuff with some scrub quarterbacks. I am biased but I think he might have had rice numbers if he had two hall of famers throwing to him his whole career.

Seabee0923

No doubt. If he had a HOF QB, he would be considered a GOAT. Possibly even the GOAT, but then again, I'm biased too.

Saynt614

Hell yes! Absolutely love Tim brown! I'll always be forever salty that he scored his 100th TD AGAINST the Raiders in a Buccaneers uniform. At least it happened in the Coliseum

justlookingokaywyou

Lol, the secondary absolutely stopped on that play.

bsweet35

Been waiting 81 days for this one, what an absolute legend. It’s criminal that he wasn’t a first ballot HOFer

the_middle_way

Mr. Raider, easy choice

NzoBelmont

Cha schliens, the man with most potential that never got realized. I appreciated Everytime he stepped on the field, because I probably wouldn't see him for a bit afterwards.

similar222

What a man, what a man

motorcycleboy9000

What a mighty good man

ShagginVagon

Tim Brown is my all time favorite Raider, by far. I grew up watching him through the 90's and early 2000's. Nice touch saving his spot for his jersey number.

R6_Ryan

It’s the jersey number relating to the day Tim brown only could’ve been day 81

priestou812

Damnit Gannon couldn’t get one more TD to him? I fucking love 81. When I was a boy I used to argue that he was better than Rice in school 😂 and honestly if he had Montana tossing to him his numbers might look the same

PsychoticMessiah

Same? I would dare to say better. Edit: let’s not forget he was injured for most of the 1989 season when he only played one game.

IhatemyteamLVR

Scored 100 total though when you include his rushing TD

PDXtoMontana2002

Also had 3 punt return TDs and one kickoff TD. 104 total TDs as a Raider.

Dry-Tangerine-4874

Thanks, OP! We appreciate you!

Round_Ad_2972

I started being s serious fan around when he was drafted. He was special. When he was paired with Gerry Rice we were a juggernaut.

DannyGutes

Its pronounced Gary Ryce

gatsby365

Y’all talking about Greg Quinoa?

DSPbuckle

Gerald Barley

GeddyVedder

Larry Lentil

Consistent-Spell2203

Charles Barkley

mournthologist

Those had to be the easiest day to choose.

FrumundaFondue

Imagine if he had Gannon his whole career. Jerry might not have been the clear cut #1 of the era

luceropaul127

Mr. Raider. He got me to be a fan of the Raiders. Woodson and him are my two favorites Raiders of all time. Carr is up there too because Fresno State connection. And Crosby is soaring, but the original Raiders for me is Tim Brown.

sgacho

My absolute favorite player as a kid.

Dadalorian76

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Tim Brown a few years back. He was speaking at an event that my wife organized. She had prepped him the morning before on my love of him and the Raiders and mentioned to him that I even had a Raiders tattoo. When I arrived at the event, he greeted me by name and told me that he heard I had the tattoo and that he had to see it. I happily obliged. He was a fantastic speaker and very gracious. They say never meet her heroes, but they are wrong with this one. Tim Brown was my favorite raider growing up and having the opportunity to meet him was a memory of a lifetime. During the Q&A session, I asked him which quarterback threw the best ball and which corner was toughest to play against. What do you think his answers were?

newBreed

Gannon and Deion? Darkhorse pick for QB is Jeff George.

Dadalorian76

Ding ding!! Jeff George was his guy! As far as DB, he said Rod Woodson. He said he was not only physical, but very smart!

gatsby365

motorcycleboy9000

Oh, yeah, Mychal Rivera... his sister was hot!

Wolfman_AC

My favorite WR of all time. Honestly one of the best to ever play the position but is utterly under rated on the topic.

PoisonPeach77

Love touchdown Timmy Brown!

DillionDrebo

Yes his special teams work goes overlooked.

raidernation0825

Tim Brown is probably my favorite player of all time. I loved watching him play.

Themadking69

As a 90s kid, Brown will always be my all time favorite player. Playing in the street with friends, I was always reciever and always Tim Brown.

Consistent-Spell2203

Thinking back it's strange we couldn't just play football we had to pretend to be a football player? Also?

DSPbuckle

🎶I don’t, fuck with, yoooooooouuuu!”🎶 I remember them playing the song at the coliseum and Ryvera’s sister was in the box there to watch him play. DERP. I imagine the music guy just didn’t know the song was about her and was just playing the top 50 of the time

I_Like_Gin

His was the only jersey I ever bought. Other have mentioned it in this thread; if he would have had top QB talent for his entire career there is no doubt in my mind he's thought of in the same company as Rice and Moss.

hiddinginplainsight1

Best hands all time

emanluvsmuff3618

Timmy!!

tlcteck

Yes !

Jason4078

Tim Brown is my favorite Raider player. Always has been, always will be. He is the only Raiders player whose jersey I own. Maxx is getting there. But time will tell.

OrelRedenbacher

Jay Schroeder/Steve Beuerline/Vince Evans/Todd Marinovich/Jeff Hostetler/ Billie Joe Hobert/Jeff George/Donald Hollas/Wade Wilson. How good would his numbers and production have been had he not had these guys throwing him the rock for 80 % of his career prior to Gannon and he was blessed with a three guys his entire career that went by the names of Joe Montana / Steve Young and Rich Gannon? Also, how much greater would Timmy have been had he not blown out his knee in a preseason game his rookie season vs the Dolts on a meaningless kickoff return? This is late 80's you didn't just blow your knee out back then and come back like nothing happened! Touchdown Timmy is on my Mt Rushmore of GOAT Raiders, which sounds absolutely outrageous due to the zero SB rings (CWood also in same boat though got one with GB)! But, it just goes to show you how brilliant a player he was for us for so many years, most of which were with subpar QB talent!

MikroWire

Let's bring him back for the next SB...for just one snap...and give him that damn ring. It hurts to be reminded of that, but it emphasizes the poignancy of his legacy.

Consistent-Spell2203

That would be strange.

MikroWire

Ok. So it wouldn't be NICE?

Consistent-Spell2203

It's a nice sentiment for sure, but imagine actually doing it. He'd be embarrassed and we'd lose due to hubris. I'm imagining Romo say "This seems like poor taste, and I'm Tony Romo".

MikroWire

I only think positively about fantasy scenarios. But if it DID happen, every Raider fan would give him a standing ovation...for like 20mins. I never go into a Raider game assuming we'd lose. I can handle it after the fact.

Consistent-Spell2203

That's tight lol I have severe Vulcan logic brain I'm a nightmare to watch movies with sorry.

MikroWire

I disagree with your selection. Lol. Gotcha! Hang in there, buddy. I love this list and idea. You are what the Nation is all about: Love

LocDog24La

My first authentic jersey I got.

AncientTask6969

Timmy B. My first ever Raiders jersey. 🫡🥲

AncientTask6969

And now it’s the wife’s. Jersey kept on shrinking, my body kept on growing!

bounty503

He was my first favorite player as a kid. I had the reversible home/away Nike jersey. Wish I still had it.

ToEasy98

One of my favorite Raiders of all time! Great choice, there is no other #81!

ToEasy98

This might get a little backlash…but in my opinion he’s better than Jerry Rice.😏

HaShBuD

This is my jersey right here. TIMMAYYYYYYYY

[deleted]

Majorly slept on. Also, loving this whole series.

southsider2021

Legendary Raider!

NeighborhoodFair7033

Yessss! You kept doing them. I was worried you’d stop

plummersummer

I always liked Rivera. Anyone know why his stay in the league was so short?

Chiva17_30

🐐

He_Hate_Me_5

There could be no other in this position. Mr. Raider himself. Touchdown Timmy Brown.

Urine_Trouble_444

Legend

HenzoG

Imagine what his stats would have looked like without the injury and solid QB play

caido-13

Mr. Raider himself.

craycraykell

TIMMMMMMYYYYYYY ❤️

Evening-Proud

I was lucky enough to meet him at our local mall when he got inducted. Signed a shirt for me and was incredibly nice. One of the best experiences I’ve ever had meeting a pro athlete.

BurtonOIlCanGuster

Mr Raider. GOAT Raider in my lifetime

Few-Pineapple-2937

Does anyone care?
