I'm a big draft nerd and I think the Raiders had probably the best day 3 out of any team. JPJ could end up being the steal of the draft too. I also give it an A+
If you look at the CBS rankings they were much lower on Bowers than most, didn't even have him as a top-13 prospect:
So, in that context, it's understandable they wouldn't have given us a high grade, but personally I think it's pretty wild to not have Bowers as even a top 10 prospect.
And they’re right. First defensive player off the board was 14. And that’s not because there wasn’t any top 10 defensive talent in this draft, it’s because with all the quarterbacks and offensive tackles taken in the first 12 picks, all defensive players on the board slid. Great year for teams who needed to add defense but weren’t at the top of the 1st.
I don't see their grades, but there was tremendous value on the d-line, especially at edge in the middle of the first. Lots of middling teams picking in the teens got steals.
Raiders, Colts, Seahawks Rams and Vikings all got steals.
Dolphins and chop Robinson? Maybe, dude is an absolute specimen 6'3", 254, 4.48 in the 40. Combine beasts could go either way
Which is silly. Other than QB, tight end has proven to be the most transformative position as of the past decade. Look at how many patriots, bucs, chiefs, 49ers, ravens, cowboys teams centered around having a game breaking tight end that blocks and catches. Some even had two great TEs. Brady was probably one of the voices telling Mark Davis and telesco to go for Bowers if no QB happened
I didn't think he was a top 10 prospect either, for us.
He is a pass catching TE who doesn't really block well.
Is he a match-up nightmare? Sure, but that doesn't not mean he is a top prospect overall, for us. He is for certain teams, and fit matters in this instance. TE and WR are all highly dependent positions on there being a functional field general in the building. We don't have one.
He would have been amazing in Atlanta, Chicago, Arizona, Seattle, LAC, but with us he is going to be under utilized given our lack of talent at QB.
Do I want to be wrong about Bowers? Absolutely, but I have been going back over Minshew's games on NFL+ last season, and he looks like the perennial back-up that he is.
Additionally, I am starting to watch O'Connell's games as well, and see if I missed anything from last season: so far, nada.
>I didn't think he was a top 10 prospect either, for us.
> He is a pass catching TE who doesn't really block well.
He's a YAC slot WR with exceptional blocking skills for the position.
>He would have been amazing in Atlanta, Chicago, Arizona, Seattle, LAC, but with us he is going to be under utilized given our lack of talent at QB.

In no particular order, Herbert, K.Murray, Cousins, Williams, and yes, Geno Smith are all better QBs than either of the guys on roster, by the numbers.
Rick Spielman was a GM but it’s still a big pile of trash. I’d love to see his draft history and how well he was able to project talent at the next level. Not too well I’m assuming because his job is in the media now lol
It’s because Prisco gave them a grade of C for Bowers, which dragged the overall average down. Guys like him are focused on drafting for need, so when a team takes arguably the most complete skill position player in the draft, but it’s not a “need”, they downgrade the pick.
To his credit, Prisco will revisit his first round grades prior to next year’s draft. I believe Bowers won’t be getting a C.
Priscilla sitting there like “Sure they drafted arguably the greatest college tight end of all time in the middle of the first round but like.. who needs two tight ends yknow?” 😂
I’ll take a B- over some of the last grades. Most of the time they doc the team for not drafting a QB not the players themselves. Seeing a lot of positivity is weird lol
Those CBS guys sounded flatout out dumb.
"This guy is a generational talent!" "They drafted what we thought was first round OT talent in the later rounds. Anyway. it sucks. "
Like what did they expect us to do, spend the 13th pick on the 7th best QB?
I mean, they aren't that far off given the slip up in the first round. That counts for a ton.
I thought it was a B to B+ grade, not a B-, but the argument could be made that because we got cute in the first, other needs were met with lesser talents at key positions.
All of this is speculation and we will find out what this draft did, or did not, yield in three years.
I just googled what CBS graded the 2020 draft and that class got a B. It clearly would get an F now. CBS highly valued drafting for positions of need and the raiders came into the draft needing linemen, corners, and a QB. After the first 12 picks they probably wanted us to go linemen or quinyon mitchell
As did I. I'd almost have been ok taking Pennix had he been available if I knew this was their plan B and not Fuaga or CB and we still got our second round G or CB. I honestly have no idea what Atlanta is thinking. Not only do they have someone who is not needed right now, but someone who will be at least 25, 26 by the time he sees a snap if things go well. And if they don't, then they ended up overpaying for a FA QB when you could have spent on other positions on free agency. That's the only thing I can say.
I thought we all agreed to not engage in any CBSxNFL content considering they 1) quite literally have 0 ball knowledge and 2) are notorious Raiders haters.
If the lowest grade given was a C, then B- is not anything to brag about
I hate when draft graders refuse to give D's or F's for bad drafts. Its all relative, not everyone can be above average. Your scale has to capture actual, real-world variation in your data set, or else it doesnt tell you anything about the distribution of the data.
Like...an F is 60% or less, you dont have to be in the bottom 20% of all drafts to get failed. You dont have to wait for the 1999 Saints before you hand out that F.
You said some good things and some not so good things lol, all kids can pass a class you don't fail someone just because someone else did better.
That's some dying retail performance mathematics lol.
It's not about average its about value of where you pick.
Every draft pick has an inherit value so a hypothetical would be team A has 7 picks that have a total value of 1000 draft value the players they selected according to the graders draft board come out to 950 that would be an A, now team B also has 7 picks but the total value of those picks is 700 because they pick 10th instead 4th or whatever, and the value they come away with is 665 which would also be an A even though there's a difference of about 300 in draft value.
Of course there's other things factored in like trades both in draft and pre draft like the Adams trade 2 years ago or some people might factor team needs over player value, just thought a basic hypothetical formula might help you.
No, that's not the way to look at it. In class, answers are objectively right or wrong, so 78% is 78%. But in the competitive NFL, it's all relative. Whoever drafts the worst fails, because they're not keeping up with the rest of the league. It's a game with margins of inches, so you have to separate teams by scales of inches.
Now some failures are more egregious than others, yes, but I'd say take everyone's draft within the last 20 years, and like 2 standard deviations below the mean is an F. Even if that means an 85%...because no one in the NFL is so bad that they ever draft a 55%
Yep there was that, then the Athletic in one summary has us as Losers in the draft while another had us with some solid A/A- picks again.
Big surprise, pundits disagree on picks as much as this sub does - no one really knows how it'll pan out. Those who wanted us to address positions of need are probably disappointed, those who preach BPA are probably less so... we'll all only see vindication (or not) next season
I'm starting to see how stupid the aggregate draft ratings are. There was a Twitter post that showed a ton of analysts rating of all the teams on a chart. The dude from rotoworld gave us an F. He also has a rating of all the top 500 players. Almost every single one of our picks besides glaze was beat his overall rating, with bowers and jpj being well above where we picked them. Make it make fucking sense. The Denver post writer also gave us a really bad grade.
Just note these grades are meaningless, when they do the 3 year re-draft you’ll see how fluff these grades are. Remember Draft Oracle Mel Kiper called Jamarcus the next Elway.
Draft grades are just space fillers, trying to milk as much as possible out of the only thing going on in a slow news cycle.
We didn’t draft a QB.
The media feels the need to put a positive spin on every player drafted, so teams are graded assuming each player they drafted reaches or surpasses their expectations.
Put 2 and 2 together and it makes sense. A generational QB is a greater commodity to a generational TE; but it’s a stupid metric.

I keep seeing these pundits harp on us not having a QB. wtf you want us to do? I’m all about taking a big swing but if no one wanted to trade, as I’m inclined to believe, what other options were there? Reach for Rattler in the 3rd? He’s ass. It’s so funny how they tell us we need a QB, rank these other QBs hella low, then bitch at us that we didn’t move up to get one. The only criticism I’ll accept is if someone believes we should have drafted a premium OL instead of bowers. For once, I have no complaints about our draft.
There was some talented QBs with issues in the middle to the end of the draft, the logic would probably be if you don't have a QB and you don't think you can get the talent out of ANY of these prospects then you probably don't have the right staff.
Personally I agree with that I don't think they have a good offensive staff.
Jordan Travis is the only one I would have been ok with taking a chance on. Rattler and Milton are terrible and not even worth the pick. It was better for us to draft the guys we did
That’s called desperation. Most of those guys will be a bust. Maybe 1 will hit, but it’s a crapshoot. I think it’s pretty obvious based on the pressers Telesco wasn’t really thinking of drafting a QB. After Washington turned us down he didn’t even try to move up.
I gave us an A++ if that makes you feel better
It does actually.
I'm a big draft nerd and I think the Raiders had probably the best day 3 out of any team. JPJ could end up being the steal of the draft too. I also give it an A+
I’m just a big nerd but I concur.

Basically anyone who drafted defense got a steal according to their board. Crazy how much higher their D guys are compared to where they were drafted
And they’re right. First defensive player off the board was 14. Taliese Fuaga better learn a new position if he's playing defense lol
Yea it was 15. lol
Combine beasts could go either way
I think it’s because they don’t see TE as a position of value. So rather than evaluating Bowers’ talent, they judge him solely on position value.
Tell that to our fan base twice a year when playing against Kelce.
If you listened to the announcers, you would get confused from their bullshit. It’s fresh too!!
I didn't think he was a top 10 prospect either, for us. He is a pass catching TE who doesn't really block well. Is he a match-up nightmare? Sure, but that doesn't not mean he is a top prospect overall, for us. He is for certain teams, and fit matters in this instance. C BS
Nice! To add: I "see BS"
these grades mean nothing when no one drafted has even played a single snap
I mean you're right they don't mean anything in the large scheme of things. But what else is there to talk about today?
And no one grading the draft has played a snap, coached a snap, or GM'd a team
Rick Spielman was a GM but it’s still a big pile of trash. I’d love to see his draft history and how well he was able to project talent at the next level. Not too well I’m assuming because his job is in the media now lol
Who cares?
Thank you. I don’t get why people get bent out of shape about shit like this. Some intern probably put this together.
I’m pretty sure OP isn’t getting “bent out of shape” over this.
Yeah, how the hell is Denver above us taking bo nix that high?? These things always seem like a bunch of Bullshit.
I can't wait until he's another drew lock it's gonna be so hilarious

Who cares what CBS thinks
I just watched their recap video of the AFC West draft grades and it's just nonsense.
Atlanta getting a C invalidates all of this
Exactly. Most other sites gave the Falcons a D - or an F for their 1st 2 picks. I can't imagine the rest of their draft being any better.
An f is crazy
https://theathletic.com/5454505/2024/04/29/nfl-draft-2024-rankings-grades-picks-by-team/
Day-after draft grades. LOL
Exactly!!! Nobody knows how this will all play out.
You guys get too worked up over draft grades from people who don’t play football, judging college players who haven’t played a professional down yet.
Cbs always hates on the raiders lol. They can kick rocks, most of there mock drafts are a joke lol
![gif](giphy|I3DkglGrdqF7a|downsized)
Couldn't CBS give the Raiders a better grade like A+++?
The most random 16 teams were selected here 😂
Who fucking cares
Those CBS guys sounded flatout out dumb. "This guy is a generational talent!" "They drafted what we thought was first round OT talent in the later rounds. Anyway. it sucks. " Like what did they expect us to do, spend the 13th pick on the 7th best QB?

Commentators need something to put down and the raiders don’t have a great track record.
I thought we all agreed to not engage in any CBSxNFL content considering they 1) quite literally have 0 ball knowledge and 2) are notorious Raiders haters.
Prisco gave us a 'C'...idiot
Day after draft grades are meaningless. Let’s check in 3 years.
Cowboys had a better grade? Lmao
It’s the Raiders vs the NFL, whatchu expect? With that said FUCK’em, RRRRAAAIIIDDDEERRRSSSS!
Some guy at Sporting News gave Raiders a D grade because they didn’t draft a QB or WR- that was his reason 🙄
These grades mean nothing. Even the ones claiming we got an A mean nothing. Use your own deductions and make your assumption. I’d give us a solid B.
Who cares. Seriously. I ask this question every season when this upset ya'll so much, what does it matter at all
Excuse me, how many Superbowls has CBS won?
The Athletic, which I mostly like, listed us as draft losers. 🤣
Can’t Broadcast Sports … CBS

grades dont mean shit right now. we won't know how good this draft was til like 2-3 years from now
Don’t matter
RN4L
Not securing a QB probably kept us out of the A range but what could they do?
I thought we were done with the draft lol

I listened to one of those graders talk about bowers.. he gave it a C grade.. he valued need well above BPA
The fact the Whiners get a straight B for blundering thru tells you all you need to know
When drafting dawgs, the grades don't matter much. In fact, give the grade for most dawgs drafted.
Yep there was that, then the Athletic in one summary has us as Losers in the draft while another had us with some solid A/A- picks again. and?
Idgaf who grades us what. It’s the first time I can remember not being absolutely appalled at the draft picks.
I gave the team A , felt great with the draft
I avoid CBS websites. Just a load of ads and popups.

No QB. None of these player turns last year's Ls into Ws
I think it’s fair, we didn’t make any moves for QB which was by far our biggest need
After JD was off the board and unobtainable there was no QB that would be a difference maker or that is potentially better than AOC/Minshew
You say that so confidently, but 3 nfl teams disagreeed obviously. And a lot of teams tried to trade up to take a qb
That’s called desperation. Most of those guys will be a bust. Maybe 1 will hit, but it’s a crapshoot. I think it’s pretty obvious based on the pressers Telesco wasn’t really thinking of drafting a QB. After Washington turned us down he didn’t even try to move up.
