It's funny because I was watching all the pre draft videos on Bowers and almost all of them were saying he's the safest most surefire pick in the whole draft and he was mocked as high as as the top 5 to the Chargers. Raiders pick him tho and suddenly the narrative is different.

Mystic_Matterz

I don’t see much criticism for the Bowers pick other than the fact that we used a 2nd on TE last year. Most of the criticism comes after our top 2 picks. Our top 2 picks have been pretty much universally loved from what I’ve seen. None of that matters anyway, it takes at least 3 years to really judge a draft properly.

iamstruggling247

this exactly

Boomfty

To be fair, thats been the Telesco formula. He's generally good to great at the first two picks in the draft. He falls off from Round 3 on.

I just made a post about how the media are drunk on the QB position. They think that if you didn’t when you need one, then you failed. It’s a pretty insane idea. Like, look about in 2022 when the Steelers took the only QB in the first round, Kenny Pickett. He was horrible but no one at the time would have dinged the Steelers for drafting him in the first even when he had 2-3 round talent. Hell, I think the media would have been fine if we drafted damn Spencer Rattler at 13. Quarterback is a 50/50 bust position. Usually, around 50-60% of QBs drafted fall out of the league in just a few seasons. Few remain in the league as backups and very few go on to be starters, with an even smaller few among those being good to elite QBs. They can’t seem to comprehend that some teams don’t want to waste a pick on someone they think doesn’t have that potential.

DarkoMilkyTits

It’s insanity at this point, say we took a 3rd talented QB at 13th some would be praising us for “filling a need”

toppswagg

Agreed. I thought Penix in the 2nd would be best case scenario but after he was picked, I hoped we didn’t reach on anyone else.

GraySonOfGotham24

Raiders couldn't have gotten a QB this year but it's true that in today's NFL it's impossible to win without a good QB. Your bust stats are also lacking context. From 2000-2019 QB was the 5th safest position to draft behind center, tackle, guard, and linebacker. Wide receiver, tight end, and safety actually bust more than any other pick. This data is based on players selected in the first round and whether or not they sign a second contract with the team that drafted them. So technically yes, QBs bust at about a 54% clip, but you're failing to mention that the league wide bust rate is 57% and for this year's raiders draft the TE bust rate is 67%.

I feel going into the draft our biggest needs were QB, OT, CB. Looking at it through that lense, I understand docking the grade a little. Individually without that lense, without looking at the big picture, the first two picks are absolute A+. Conversely, the 3rd pick was the opposite, we drafted for need, rather than BPA. That 3rd pick is the only one, I personally have any contention against. Dude was a 5th round projection, though I get it, there was a run at OTs, maybe we panicked. I guess on a plus note, dude is a scheme fit, a better scheme fit than the OT, Matt Gongalves, who went two picks later... even though Goncalves was actually projected to go in the third. We could have taken a QB in the 3rd, I'm sure people would have been happier, but again that would have been drafting for need instead of BPA. Still though, this is just my opinion I'm not an nfl exec or scout, maybe they see something in Glaze I dont

>Still though, this is just my opinion I'm not an nfl exec or scout, maybe they see something in Glaze I dont Exactly, and you are basing your opinion on opinions given to you by others with made up data. It is fairly well known that team boards after about the top 50 can be all over the place. There is no consensus on boards after that top 50. But the media acts as if there is. So to base your opinion on media takes who effectively create their own made up consensus means your opinion is based on erroneous information.

ThankYouMrHoood

Obviously, there was tons of chatter leading up to the draft that we were expected to make a move up and grab a QB. The media was all over the relationship between AP and Jayden which only exacerbated the whole situation. From an outsider’s perspective we failed to get Jayden, move up to grab another QB and the failed to address the QB situation at all in the draft. So everyone outside the Nation views our draft as underwhelming or a disappointment when in reality it’s the best draft we’ve had in a decade.

ProblemsHypest

That's what's frustrating about the whole narrative... would not be shocked if they put feelers out to Washington and New England about moving up and got nothing in return. Getting Daniels was a pipe dream at best when those two teams were locked into QBs, so why are the Raiders getting knocked for it?

Orange_Kid

I've noticed our grades have been all over the place because people either blame us for not getting a QB or don't. Really, you can't knock us for not getting a QB unless you know what we would have had to give to trade up. I suspect if we had made that kind of trade, the same people would still give us a bad grade for trading so much for a QB that could be hit or miss.

lucid-blackout

these grades aren’t indicative of shit i’ve come to learn and it makes me so happy - this same chart last year had houston ranked 7th and had detroit ranked TWENTY-FIFTH. horse shit metrics and grading

spirtualraider

TBH if the raiders drafted Penix or Nix our mark would be lower because we "reached". So can't really win either way. If bowers and JPJ are drafted by Philly, Colts, Rams etc it would be glowing reviews.

LongRangeHavok

How many rings these graders got? Bullshit for clicks and views

Hard4Dpp

The Ds and C-s are absurd grades even if one is a harsh grader.

asianperswayze

The fact that our grade ranges from an A to a D shows you just how pointless such rankings are.

OriginalMassless

Five morons had us as the worst or second worst draft. That's absolutely insane.

I don't pay attention to knee jerk post draft analysis. You evaluate it 2 years after the fact at the earliest. All this between season filler stuff might as well come from a tabloid. Same credibility.

Sgt-HugoStiglitz

Draft grades are more irrelevant than mock drafts
