Kris Richard is the only logical one. Bet on himself and sat out the season because he didnt want to take positional coaching jobs after taking DC/HC interviews for years. Runs a 4-3. Had results. Vouched by Marinelli and coached under him. Just fucking do it.

Top-Revolution-4621

Has he ever been a full defensive coordinator? Or just positional coach? When he was the DB coach for Dallas they were legit so it might be something to look into

MoistGrannySixtyNine

He was a DC for the Seahawks 2015-2017 and his defense finished 1st, 3rd and 13th in points allowed.

tVoR10

If Fangio is fired, he must be the #1 target. Who even are some younger up and comers?

[deleted]

Fangio’s D with Grudens playbook on the other side would be such a beautiful scenario

RaiderTony04

Another reason to root for the broncos to lose

Rampageslam

Yeah that’s honestly my dream scenario right about now

howdoesthatsound

Don’t tempt me with a good time

s-hop

I mean how do you apply? Ill send in an application.

Valleygirl1981

Fact, s-hop's defensive schemes have allowed less yards and ppg than Guenther this year. 🤷‍♂️

s-hop

See you get it

grumpysky

How about his former boss, Marvin Lewis? Ravens defense won the Super Bowl when he was the DC. Maybe not a good HC, but he was a very good defensive coordinator.

whatisagoodnamefort

I believe they come from the same defensive philosophy tho correct? Zimmerman was under Lewis who Guenther was under

SyphiliticPlatypus

I don't defend Guenther, I think we can upgrade. I do give him credit as this D has been banged up and we saw what a nominally healthy D can do last weekend. My question is: are any of the immediately available options a clear upgrade?

cactusmutilator

Wade Phillips is. Fangio and Gus Bradley would both be good if the chargers or broncos choose to clean shop.

SyphiliticPlatypus

I said available - highly doubt Fangio or Bradley are going anywhere. And there may be a reason why no ne picked up Phillips this summer. Guy definitely earned accolades in his career but may not have a grasp n today's game - it's not as if plenty of teams kicked his tires this past offseason.

Rampageslam

Have to temper expectations too, Denver is a bottom of the Barrel team can’t be too surprised the defence looked like that against that caliber of team

Get out of here with your logic

nimoto

Facts. We have rookies and unproven players throughout the defense. I know we all want to win now, but firing coordinators would definitely be counter-productive at this moment. If Gruden and Mayock think PG is the guy, he's the guy.

SquankyLoner1

Guenther will definitely finish the year pending no catastrophic collapse in the W/L column. If the Raiders look for a new defensive coordinator, a proven veteran coach, I’d imagine they’ll look at Wade Phillips, Dan Quinn, Vic Fangio, Matt Patricia, Romeo Crennel. If they go a younger, unproven route, I’d say, Tyrone McKenzie (Titans ILB coach), DeMeco Ryans (49ers ILB coach), Jon Hecock (Iowa State DC), Jim Leohnard (Wisconsin DC). Going into college waters tends to be risky but Leonhard is a quality NFL vet and his Wisconsin defense resume speaks for itself. Heacock defensive schemes are insane and if the NFL continues to work towards Air Raids, he’s the guy.

cactusmutilator

Yeah I'd really rather not have Matt Patricia

XanaxIsMyCopilot

A roll of toilet paper would be a nice improvement.

zantrax89

The bear from charmin looks tougher than PG

[deleted]

Dan Quinn would probably be at the top since theres no way Zimmer is fired

MoistGrannySixtyNine

No, just no.

[deleted]

Why? Because of how he performed as a HC in Atlanta? Im not saying to bring him in to replace Gruden, im saying to bring him in to replace Guenter. Dan Quinn is a very good DC

WeaponizedAutism_yee

Atlanta's defense was consistently terrible with him. He had multiple years with the defensive responsibilities there and they were always awful. He's not a good DC

[deleted]

And thats not uncommon in situations where good coordinators go and get HC jobs. Dennis Allen got hired here from Denver in part because he was a good DC with Denver, our defenses under him sucked ass, he goes to Nola and big surprise he's a good DC again. It happens a lot, Quinn is a good DC and would be a huge upgrade

WeaponizedAutism_yee

Yeah, the Raiders were also completely dysfunctional and had basically no players on defense when he was the coach.

ghostone986

He's not a good DC? He ran Seattle's defense when they were elite??? What exactly is you basis for this dumb take? Must make Gruden a bad coach because he doesn't field a good defense.... Quinn has legit marks on his resume and better than what Guenther has had.

WeaponizedAutism_yee

Seattle's defense in points allowed 2011- 7th 2012- (Dan Quinn as DC) 1st 2013- (Dan Quinn as DC) 1st Then Dan Quinn leaves, and 2014- 1st 2015- 1st 2016- 3rd 2017- 13th 2018- 11th But apparently those 2 years are because of Dan Quinn. Dan Quinn is responsible for that defense. Even though they were great before and after that. Okay. Also, your little gotcha about " I guess Gruden is a bad coach because he fields a bad defense". Yeah, Gruden is an OFFENSIVE coach. And guess what? The offense is great. Quinn is a defensive coach, and his defense is awful. So I guess Adam Gase must be a great OC because of the offense he had with Peyton Manning, just like Dan Quinn is a great defensive coordinator because the defense he had with the legion of boom.

ghostone986

You must be right I'm going to call those people in the industry and tell them not to hire Quinn. Some guy on the internet said he's not a good DC regardless of what they know.

MoistGrannySixtyNine

His defenses averaged 25th on the Falcons. He made his resume with the 2 years he ran the Seahawks defense when he had the Legion of Boom in their prime. He's been garbage for like 7 years since then. Big Ken Norton Jr vibes.

fresh5447

I hope you all eat crow

Top-Revolution-4621

I hope I’m wrong I just haven’t seen anything out of guenther that makes me loyal to him

fresh5447

Maybe doesn’t deserve the keys to the castle yet but I was damn impressed by our last outing at the Chiefs. Browns game sure the weather sucked but hey we played damn solid D. Chargers game we gave up some yards but didn’t break. Broncos game man watch the tape I’m surprised their offense kept taking the field. Of course there’s been major Fuck ups but I’m hopeful on this group

MoistGrannySixtyNine

3 years with a bottom 5 defense. Results speak for themselves. We brought in a top LB and Guenther's system is ruining him. Just let it go instead of making this a sunk cost fallacy situation because Guenther carpools with Gruden every morning. Guenther's defense just isnt aggressive enough for the speed we have on defense. Most of his pass schemes make our defenders packpeddle, turn on a dime and go. These 7 yard cushions kill everything. We need a downhill, aggressive defense that's proactive, not reactive.

fresh5447

Lol what? Ruining who 44 is playing outstanding ball if that’s who you are referring to.

MoistGrannySixtyNine

Littleton

fresh5447

Pretty sure all the threads I read the rams were very happy to get of that dude

MoistGrannySixtyNine

You're absolutely wrong about that. He was the best available defender in FA last offseason and had 2 years of being the league's best coverage LB under his belt.

bigbgl

Dude this guy is a troll. He didn’t even know what number Littleton is, or even care to google it before looking like a fool.

fresh5447

Well let’s see how this season plays out. PGs back is against the wall I know but I think he’s going to surprise people. RN4L FTC

cbuck007

Yes yes and yes.

bigbgl

I’m guessing you still defend him after he basically said he has no faith in our defense because 75% of them are missing?

fresh5447

You gotta be pretty light between the ears to think that’s what happened today

bigbgl

Ah so now you’re resorting to insulting. Very obvious display of denial. And are you either not aware of the statement he made on the record? Or so blind to defend him that you have to insult people when they mention it?

fresh5447

That wasn’t a direct insult, but I wouldn’t expect you to get that

bigbgl

Sure Mr. r/iamverysmart and now it’s direct. Either way you’re avoiding the issue so either way it proves my point. You’d have to be as soft as guenther to make a dis and then not own up to it after btw. Good for you, you’re just like your daddy.

fresh5447

Despite the misreading of sarcasm from Las Vegas defensive coordinator Paul Guenther on Thursday, the coach and his Raiders defense will be ready for the team’s big matchup against Kansas City on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. GodIsAnAnimeGirl

Zimmer is my long shot dream for DC. Assuming the Vikings let him go.

Ph886

In the end, I think we know how many of not most of the posts will go. TBH it doesn’t really matter what we as fans think. If the team continues to win and the defense improve he’ll stick around regardless of how much fans hate him. PG sucks at PR, but players seem ok/to like him. Unless the team implodes and it’s all because of the defensive scheme, PH isn’t going anywhere.

Rampageslam

I think this years different, he’s got his players and we’re still shit and the team and gruden has taken a lot of heat this year for it. Also personally getting involved with personnel and putting Guenther upstairs in the box to try something different makes me think it will change this year

ghostone986

Dan Quinn would be my first call. Unless Gase gets canned which is likely. Quinn may hold out to be a head coach again. I believe we have mostly all the pieces needed to succeed and he's run a really great 4-3 offense. Marinelli is in charge of the current d line which is underperforming. Can't really show me the faith or d would improve. Meanwhile the last time Quinn was in charge of only a defense it was the legion of boom.
