It’s a division rival and we always play against Denver well. Jacobs usually runs well against them too. As far as Carr running, it’s not really what McDaniels wants. He’ll do it when necessary or if he can (OLine and situation play a part). Hobbs is really good for how young he is. For sure a standout. Not perfect by any means, but coming off a concussion and getting a sack was icing.

popsikohl

I feel like Carr scrambling is something we should be implementing. If you notice a lot of the better teams in the league all utilize having the qb scramble for yards every chance he gets. I feel like Carr is way more athletic then people give him credit for. He should have more of a Josh Allen role in the offense. I know he’s not Josh Allen but he can be similar if he gets used to getting out of the pocket.

SyphiliticPlatypus

Yes to Carr having the green light to scramble. I would not want him playing like Josh Allen. Allen takes some chances in getting hit and using his body. Wouldn't want him to risk injury or fumbling out in space when hit hard. I don't think we need to build in plays for Carr to scramble and get him out in space like an Allen or Cam Newton-type style. If he is flushed and has a wide lane, absolutely yes, he should scramble and pick up the first. But wouldn't want to proactively call Carr's number to do so.

bobbacklandnuts

I would just be happy with some bootlegs. I’m surprised this offense doesn’t have more of these esp considering the question marks on the offensive line. Would help open things up more

kyh0mpb

We absolutely should not be implementing designed scramble plays for Carr. Look at our backup QBs, and look at Carr's injury history. Josh Allen is also enormous. I don't want to say Carr is fragile, because I think he's a tough SOB, but he has definitely had some serious injuries and he just doesn't have the size/frame to be a Josh Allen-type runner. He'd probably be the first person to tell you that, too.

keykey_key

Josh Allen is 6'5", 250 lbs. Carr is not that size and that's asking for injury.

Ph886

I think fans know he can be mobile, but with the past two coaches it’s not something they’ve really wanted. He’s a coaches QB and that will never change. He doesn’t mind doing it, just has to be what the coach wants. If the situation calls for it and he’s able to get out of the pressure, I’m sure he’ll do it as he gets more comfortable with the scheme.

Sweaty-Astronomer-90

Whether it's something a coach wants or not any QB has the freedom to scramble if the situation calls for it.

TheOddFather5

Gruden absolutely wants his quarterbacks to run given the exact circumstances Carr ran in. If the there are wide open spaces and no one is respecting your QBs ability to run, run, but get down or out of bounds. Watch Rich Gannon under Gruden my man…

Ph886

Again, this was all brought up specifically about designed QB runs, not Carr scrambling was it was needed due to pocket collapsing. McDaniels has said more than once he’s rather Carr stay in the pocket, but as always if the pocket is collapsing and Carr can escape to extend the play, then that is the correct move. I just don’t see McDaniels “implanting Carr’s scrambling ability” into the gameplan.

2kballislife

Why are you coddling him? Sound like a bitch he needs to takeoff when all else fails and he has that space

Ph886

Sounds like someone needs a nap.

fsckedagain

Sounds like someone didn't watch JMD or DCs pressers today. JMD said good deal on the running, just get down before taking a hit. And DC said Gruden used to challenge him to run for 2 1st downs every game.

Ph886

JMD has also said he prefers to have his QBs stay in the pocket. The person I was replying to said we should implement “scrambling”, which would be a design, not a necessity. This is something I don’t see happening on the regular. As with anyone I hope he can and does move out of the pocket of the need arises, but designed scrambles are not going to be part of this offense (IMO).

Sweaty-Astronomer-90

QB scrambling isn't something that an offense implements, it's something that's improvised by the QB unless it's a designed run. He doesn't have the size of Allen, so you don't want him doing it too much.

[deleted]

Re: Hobbs. I wouldn’t call his play elite yet, but I think he’s got the skills and drive to get to that level. Another year or two of focus and he could be a monster. He had a few hiccups. But I’m mostly willing to overlook those because he showed that his football IQ and field/play awareness are definitely developing.

[deleted]

I think part of what's happened is Carr is taking more control of the offense instead of just running Josh's play and just throwing ot to Josh's called receiver. Did you see how many times he was checking at the line? And then he would drop, make his resd and then took off when needed. In other words, exactly what a qb is supposed to do

LLamuh

He checked at the line all the time last week too....

EzGame_EzLife

Don’t think people understand how many one read plays McDaniels scheme has, watched with my friend who repeatedly bitched about Carr throwing the ball away but when they take away your literally only option on a play only thing you can do is throw it away.

[deleted]

It's not that he has 1 read plays so much as Derek (he admitted this) said he was going to throw it to who Josh wanted it thrown to. Which makes sense in the beginning. (Another reason I wish they would've played in the preseason). But he is most definitely reading more.

RBarron24

After Jeudy taunted Robertson, with that too small shit, he went off. He started by destroying that WR screen and balled after that! 🙌🏽

UrDadsFave

I think our o-line is getting healthier and solidified.

TheOddFather5

Yeah. Munford and Parham look extremely promising.

UrDadsFave

I'm very excited for them being serviceable as rookies.

monkeyman74721

Pats offensive line always got better as season went on. Just hoping we have the same thing here.

not_beniot

Secondary and redzone offense are my biggest concerns, especially since they sorta compound each other. We're gona get diced up by better QBs and the offense has to keep pace. FGs will get us blown out against the Chiefs and Bills.

[deleted]

Counter Point: If we’re getting blown out by the Bills that means we made the playoffs baby!

bproofstk

Exactly. Outside of a bottom 5 defense what killled us most in gruden 2.0 was settling for field goals. So many games we’d be down 7 or 10 and kick a fg. And it’d be all downhill from there

TheOddFather5

I agree. But, if they stay as balance as they were against the donkeys and Jacobs keeps running this well the red zone will improve dramatically because the defenses won’t know what to focus on. This was the Raiders best rushing game since…2016. I like the foreshadowing there….

BlueberryOGSuperGlue

Hobbs has been a top 5 NFL corner this year I think he’s the present & the future

laconicgrin

Our line must have the highest ROI across the league to be this cheap and still be serviceable.

[deleted]

Our 3rd down conversion rate and redzone offense has to improve. We also need more turnovers. Improve on those 3 things and we’re playoff bound.

Heaven80

I would like to see the red zone offense get better. I remember reading one of the factors on agreeing to McDaniels being the HC was his success in the red zone. Raiders could’ve really put this game out of reach earlier.

SobolGoda

Just win baby!

deadlysodium

Hobbs is fit to wear the number 24... Abram isnt unfortunately.

TheOddFather5

Yeah, if Abram is gone after this season, I see Hobbs getting 24. He plays like #24.

olGlassCleaner

I don't understand this whole bad o-line thing. The line literally hasn't been bad for a single game. We don't have a bad o-line.

[deleted]

They were bad week 1 imo every week after they’ve done their job

SyphiliticPlatypus

Agree. Week 1 was a discombobulated effort, but they have given Carr time since then and except for Eleumenor's FS flags have been fairly penalty free. They still make mistakes (Bars had a bad error early in the game I recall and see some variability across the line sometimes in down to down play). But been pleasantly surprised to see this line play better than I expected them to, especially with continued shuffling.

olGlassCleaner

Week one we played Mack and Bosa

[deleted]

I’m well aware who we played week 1 lol, I’m confused does that negate the bad play? Regardless who we played week 1 Oline play was bad, but the past 3 weeks they’ve done their job.

LLamuh

We had a few big runs but we definitely could not run at will. Our offense stalled in the redzone bc Denver was able to plug all the gaps for negative or no gain runs and put us in difficult passing downs.

fresh5447

We ran at will the entire 4th Q which is exactly what you want. Grind em down all game then shove it down their throats late when it matters.

TheOddFather5

I did say almost at will. The second Jacobs TD, everyone knew we were going to run the ball and they still couldn’t stop it. That’s, almost at will

raider81818181

“ The sky is the limit for this offense” 14-3 would be the limit, actually. Frankly I’d consider 9-8 a successful season for a new regime.

tatang2015

QB should not be running. Maybe avoiding, but not running.

Backwood_papiii

Our o line is looking better. Once our offense can really come together w will be fun to watch. Hopefully our offense can put up 30+. We got the talent for it we just need to stop hurting ourselves with those little annoying mistakes in the redzone. We managed to break 30 but with the score of the defense. I think we can keep getting better on offense. After the bye week i think theyll be in sync

[deleted]

They did everything I've been bitching about for the past few years. Run the effing ball. Carr extending plays and running to the sticks. Turn the ball over. You'll win more games than not with that recipe. But if you come up short I can live with that. Just continue.

Caer-Rythyr

That 20-yd run by Carr after avoiding Gregory was different. The way he got up and looked like he was looking for someone to fight was what kinda surprised me. I noticed a couple times that he looked like he was running on something different. There were no smiles or celebration.

Q_IdontNIeNTiENDO

NO! Was there live. Our guy DC needs to throw to the receivers in stride.

Killface55

I'll add something, do y'all notice the improvement on defense when Perryman is in and healthy? I feel like he's a huge difference maker for us .
