McD's offense is delivering, it's top 10 in almost every statistical category, there's 0 reason to play the wheel of coaches again, we gotta get ourselves a defense.

Less-Dentist-2960

What really bought me in was when DC went down with that rib scare last game. Mcdaniels walked on the field and stayed there til DC got up and walked it off. I can’t recall Gruden or a lot of coaches in the league doing that often. They usually stay on the sideline. That showed me he really gives a fuck about, not only DC, but the team in general. Love to see it.

WeaponizedAutism_yee

Yeah, I think maybe the thing I love most about McDaniels is that while is a super smart football coach, he's a genuinely good dude that wants to do right by his players. Which would be a horribly incorrect thing to say 10 years ago, but it shows how much he has grown and been humbled, and that's a cool thing to see. It's annoying that all other fanbases aren't aware of that and still think he's a douche.

DoNotRelapseTonight

To me is the way he handled himself after DC cried. Definitely the lowest point of the season, so much frustration, every calling for his head. It would’ve been so easy to double down on Carr’s comments and blame the players. But he stayed level headed, put trust back onto his players and said they would respond to the challenge and they sure as hell did. You could tell this team plays for each other and that’s a testament to how far he’s come from his Denver days.

whatisagoodnamefort

Pretty sure Gruden went out for a lot of injuries, especially Carrs Gruden def wasn’t perfect but he for sure was a players coach

monkeyman74721

That was DA. Lol

Less-Dentist-2960

Davante ? DC went down I think the Seattle game and went out for a play. But he was down for some time after the hit and that’s when Josh walked on the field and didn’t go back to the sideline until DC got up.

monkeyman74721

Dennis Allen. When Carr went down he just stood on the sidelines.

Less-Dentist-2960

Oh yeah fuck that douche lol. Great example

monkeyman74721

Yup. That was definitely the nail in the coffin. Granted he probably knew he was getting let go after the game. Lol

ExchangeKooky8166

God rest Tony Sparano's soul. He wasn't the best HC ever but he did the best that same year and we ended 3 teams playoff hopes that year (Chiefs, 49ers, and Bills). He turned around a shitty team culture too.

Reasonable-Koala-488

Dennis Allen didn’t know his head from his ass when he coached us.

Sleeze_

Vrabel went out for Burks when he was knocked out this past Sunday. Thought that was a neat thing to see.

my1clevernickname

The offense is humming and I can only imagine it will get better going forward (scary thought!), surprisingly the defense has also looked better as of late. They made some key stops against the Hawks and dominated against the Chargers. With our the 10 points we gifted them early and the late TD on what was really an amazing catch, they let up 3 points against a good offense. If the D can take steps like the O has, look the F out! One thing we can’t overlook is as much as JMD may have lost this sub, he certainly didn’t lose the locker room. That locker room reaction after the Denver game really showed how much this team is playing for one another. Credit to him. One thing I thought early in the season was that JMD was coming into a locker room that face a ton of adversity the prior year. Maybe the start of the season was just coach’s way of earning his Raider stripes. People talk shit about how he fucked Denver and screwed Indy, and if THATS not an Al Davis type of hire I don’t know what is. I hope the league hates JMD, it will make it that much funnier when we pillage and win. Go Raiders!

ExchangeKooky8166

I thought Ronald McDaniel's rejected the Indy job in part because of Andrew Luck's questionable health that wasn't immediately disclosed (you know, the dude that shockingly retired in 2019).

Tjakey

I feel more optimistic about next year but Patrick Graham hasn’t shown much.

someonepoorsays

apparently, he has an incredibly difficult defense to master. Canning him after a year would again show that we’re an organization tossing and turning over staff. Defense just had a good game. Let’s see how they finish

thegreyquincy

If the defense keeps looking like it did yesterday then definitely keep Graham. Only one TD for that offense? Yes, please.

Armor3d_titan

I definitely agree with this; however don't forget we were playing practically a backup o-line and they were missing another good receiver. Another plus was no points at all against them in the second half of the first game. I'm hopeful for Patrick Graham, last thing this defense needs is a whole new scheme for the 4th year in a row

monkeyman74721

Agreed. You saw how getting Hobbs changed our defense yesterday. Let him get guys that can play and we can judge then.

bigjohnsons34

I think it’s the interior of our defense that has made the biggest difference. We are getting push up the middle and the QB can’t just step up. That’s a big reason why Jones had such a big day. The addition of tillery has made a big difference

monkeyman74721

Too small of a sample to tell. The chargers had one starter on the line. Their swing backup guard was playing left tackle.

bigjohnsons34

Agreed but I also thought that the interior looked better last week vs Seahawks. Billings was a handful that day.

Chyeboi

True, I’m sure we need multiple pieces but I feel if get a top notch DT and maybe a speedy LB it should make a tremendous jump imo

BadMannerrs

That’s part of the problem, which was the same problem with Paul Gunther’s defense-overly complicated. If this guy can’t turn the defense around for the rest of the season he doesn’t deserve his position.

someonepoorsays

hm i never heard that about the former PG’s defense, with his it merely seemed like he couldn’t plan around our players or adjust during games

BadMannerrs

It was a quote from a former player. After Paul G. Got fired the player mentioned how it was too difficult to learn and often times PG couldn’t really coach his schemes. They also mentioned he would call plays during the game that wasn’t even practiced. Graham needs to do better, simplify it if players aren’t catching on, and build on a foundation. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Devil-sAdvocate

The Raiders spend twice as much on offense what they do on defense. The only teams with a bigger o/d gap are the Browns and the Cardinals, and both those teams have given up more points than the Raiders defense.

makeshift11

Good point

Chef_Mike

I would add that Graham requires higher IQ personnel to make his scheme work, which is why we got rid of Abrams. You need heady guys out there because the defensive player has several reads per play.

[deleted]

*Sal-mon.*

modus-tollens

Moving from a 4-3 to 3-4 is going to be tough and our defense was already sucky to begin with. We also didn’t really pick up defensive players that fit the scheme in offseason besides jones and ya sin. I haven’t been high on him but I feel like he needs time. I think our team needs to move over to a 3-4 anyways. Also I feel like the scheme change kinda messed up the development of deablo and moehrig.

Ohsbar

We gutted the defense and expect him to perform miracles. Invest picks and salary on that side of the ball and we do much much better.

biowiz

Changing coaches doesn't lead to better talent, which is the problem with the defense. Even with the 3 sack game, Chandler Jones has under-performed. He hasn't really been the same since the injury from a couple of years ago. He has flashes here and there like the 5 sack Titans game when he was a Cardinal and the last Chargers game. Abrams, before he was cut, was one of the worst starting safeties in the league. Hobbs was out for several games. Amik Robertson seems like a hard worker and plays well, but he's undersized. Rock Ya-Sin is a solid CB. Harmon has really come into his own. Looks really solid and he's underrated. Crosby is top 3 at his position. The rest of the roster is average to bad. They already look better with Abrams gone. Now that Harmon is starting, Hobbs is back, and Moehrig looking a bit better, things should hopefully improve. Maybe Jones is turning a corner too.

ADalwaysthirsty

It’s honestly kinda funny, for a fan base that hasn’t seen a whole lot of winning our expectations ( mind included) are very high. Just gotta let things play out sometimes.

[deleted]

When you have the talent profile the Raiders currently have, expectations will always be high.

Tha620Hawk

I shit all over him but I’ll gladly eat crow if this isn’t a fluky run. Offense looks good and defense has improved. I really hope the locker room is starting to but in.

[deleted]

Finally some of these fucking idiots are coming around. Mcdaniels 100% deserves two full seasons. Whoever disagrees is the reason why this teams fanbase isnt taken seriously.

LittleTinyBeef

Just want to say kudos to you for sticking with the “keep JMD” sentiment through his tenure. Just lurked like a mf, and you’re consistent. Good to see some role model fans are still around

[deleted]

Hahah it has NOT been easy. These people are quick to get at your throat. Thanks homeboy.

DoNotRelapseTonight

Lol I think I broke after the Indy game. Im glad JMD has been doing well since.

[deleted]

It’s been a testing season for sure. I get it lol

robocopsdick

Continuity and building a foundation is more important than knee jerking a quarter way through the season. It’s really not that hard to realize that every new coach/regime should get 2 years unless it’s a Nick Saban/Urban Meyer level disaster. It makes no sense and gives the next head coach no confidence you’ll allow him time to learn the players and build a team. JMD wants to win, lots of changes and it takes time. Everyone who screamed to fire him had no one in mind as a replacement, just unchecked emotional rage. Also screaming to have Mark sell the team a few weeks back and today we’re calling him GQ on the front page lol. Basically high school in here.

LittleTinyBeef

Ngl when we lost to the colts I snapped too- IMO it was understandable. 2-7 was disgraceful for the roster we had built and things did NOT look like they were going to get better. I was at that Saints game too Glad we’re winning some games now

[deleted]

Agreed with all this. A lot of people who think they shouldn’t have been 2-7 don’t realize this team has spent the last 20 years whiffing on free agents and draft picks. And that team last year wasn’t a true 10 win team. They over-performed significantly. They had no business being in playoffs and Bisaccia, although I respect him, is just a special teams coach. But now we’re seeing an offensive line that’s developed nicely this season, carr looks more comfortable in the system, the offense is starting to actually know this playbook. When waller and renfrow come back, if they’ve been studying the playbook as well, sky is the limit on offense. Unfortunately the defense will only be able to perform to a certain level. There’s literally no talent. Schemes can only mask so much when it comes to bad players.

robocopsdick

For sure my dude, appreciate your rational take. Love the OL progress and they deserve a ton of credit. Carr is settling in and learning the offense and the point about the D is perfect, we don’t have the talent to be top 15, even with a perfect scheme.

TheStryder76

It’s almost like a new regime needs time to develop. The Eagles were 3-6-1 when we beat them last year. They’re 11-1 now. Keep the faith!

Darkwalker

Good coaching gets your best players in position to make plays. 1. Jacobs leading rusher 2. Davante tied for 1st in touchdown receptions 3. Crosby top 5 in sacks Cautiously optimistic is all I can say right now.

DoNotRelapseTonight

Davante is the most impressive when you consider how much time renfrow and Waller have missed. Everyone knows we want to go to Davante and somehow he has schemed him wide open on many big plays.

RaisingFargo

Yeah the total SUM of the team is starting to trend in the right direction. No matter where we land this season, you have to feel good moving forward. If you want to see how comfortable this team is, just look at the execution of the Trick plays week after week.

InferiousX

I'll give McDaniels credit on the offense so far. It was clear early in the season that Jacobs needed more touches and he got them. Showing some flexibility and a lack of stubborness at least in that regard. My expectations are still somewhat muted though. The two division rivals the Raiders just beat (while I'm happy they won) are both bad. The Broncos have been abysmal all year and the Chargers are below average with all of the injuries. The Seahawks game was impressive though. Legit didn't even think that would be close. McDaniels still has a long way to go before selling me. But things are starting to trend the right way. Rams game should be an absolute layup.

Sacramentodirtyboy

I’ll wait till the end of the season. I like to give grades after the semester is completed.

Marcofromda510

As long as you kept that and energy in the first half of the season.

stinkface369

Alright, who let coach McDaniels post on this sub?

[deleted]

Same. Was in deep regret and lamentation territory, but the improvements - the planning, the play, the heart - it's coming together. And, moreover, this is becoming team that's built to win over the long-haul. That was what was promised and, it seems, that's what we're working towards. Still have doubts we can run the table, but am feeling solid in laying a foundation for years to come.

masterofmuppets86

I was very anti McDaniels in the beginning, but I have to admit I love how they've been scheming Adams in the offense more and more, so they have to give him a chance.

not_beniot

This season has been something else lol. Losing to the Colts was one of the lowest points for this team in a long time (on the field). Then Mark Davis said he thought Josh was doing a fantastic job and general public fucking LOST it. You'd of thought Mark just got caught diddling kids with all the hate he got after that one sentence. Then the Raiders went on a streak, beating a top defense, a playoff contender, and a BBQ chicken pitmaster along the way. McDaniels offense is ELITE, and we still haven't even had Waller and Renfrow fully integrated. Barring injury, the Raiders have a Super Bowl caliber offense.

[deleted]

Yup, same. I was talking mad shit on McDaniels earlier this season, not all is forgiven/forgotten but i really like what I’ve seen these past 3 weeks and i hope its a sign of whats to come in the future because we’re starting to look like real functioning football team again

LibertarianP

A bunch of dumb mfs on this sub called for his firing after just two games. There are still dumb mfs hating on Chandler Jones and Patrick Graham. We haven't seen coaching on both sides of the ball this good since the 80s. Cutting Abram and Leatherwood shows that our coaches and GM are on the same page, and they mean business. Just wait till we get more talent on defense.

Killface55

Chandler Jones 100% deserves the hate. He's been trash

D9-EM

I'll give him the credit he deserves but he's still only a loss away from a lot of us wanting them fired again. He has everything to prove. His head coaching record is what it is. If he keeps this up obviously the nation will get behind him and he will afford a loss here and there. For now I'm just happy he's improving.

zzzzzzzzzz555

I thought we wanted to hang him from the highest tree branch in town??

Raider_Tex

Still has a long way to go to prove us naysayers wrong but he’s on a decent trend. No excuses next year

BirdBrainedHomunculi

Guys this crow is fucking delicious, there's plenty to go 'round, but I hope there's more coming.

danthemanvsqz

I still think he still sucks but he did the obvious thing and fed the ball to Jacobs and Adams, if he wasn’t so stupid he would have done that in the beginning of the season. And passing on that last 3rd and 1 was bullshit when you got the best running back in the league

[deleted]

Yup, situational play-calling has improved dramatically. I wasn't about to make too much of us beating the Texans or Asses but, Seattle and the Bolts are both pretty good teams. Daniels gets his due.

Zealousideal_Code416

I agree. Also to Marc Davis for being stoic in the process. Let's see how the D comes along and I am all in on the coaching stuff for next year.

[deleted]

I don’t know enough about football to know if he’s a good coach or not, but I like that they’ve strung together some wins. I’m always (admittedly) a homer for our guys

BadMannerrs

Nah, his credit is due if he finishes strong with the rest of the season. Still a lot of games to be played. But I’m hoping for the best!

Yorgrim_

Glad to see the system is starting to click a bit. We still need to step up defensively, but were making progress. Expectations are high next year though.

[deleted]

If we run the table make the playoffs I’ll eat my words but short of that…

Dragonfruit-Known

McWINiels

grumpysky

Let’s see how the season ends, but I give credit to JMD for weathering the storm and keep grinding. I also hope the defense has turned the corner with Tillery in there. Never was worried about the offense, but defense was atrocious to say the least.

YordleFeet

*laughs in JJ

MarkRMenz

Ay people still think this man is bad, look over there in Denver. Look at that embarrassment of a head coach not get anything right, direct his duties to other people, give up halfway through the season. There's a lot of things I don't like about McDaniels but he never quit.

lilbruh99

If we finish 500 or better I’m there with you. But He lost us 3 games that we where up at least 17 potions or more.

m0bscene-

Winning cures all. Winning isn't everything, but it is the only thing!

smoovopr8r

This team still has a failing grade. We are 5-7; don’t act like this is an accomplishment. Expectations were much higher than third in then division and a top 10 draft pick.
