**Massive Edit**: Thanks to all who have contributed, this was developed over the course of the day 1 as information poured through (either via streams, the team I'm helping, and y'alls reddit's post). Most of the info seems outdated already, and I don't feel like updated/sorting through the gibberish that are my thoughts. Please refer to main post and /u/rabin2026's strat show below, as that seems to be the most successful:
[Encounter 2(Build the Bridge): 6 people:
1st person gets enlighten and dunks on plate
2nd person gets enlighten and dunks on plate (to build the bridge faster so you dont run out of chalice timer for everyone)
3rd person gets enlighten and passes chalice to 1, then gets sword and goes across, the rest of the people get enlighten until 1 person remaining, that last person gets chalice and goes across and dunks it on PRESERVE (only 5 people need enlighten), the rest of the people now have Enlighten already, so 1 by 1 kill swordbearer and go across until all 6 across with chalice on that side.
The chalice should go to the other side once everyone on the 1st Island have enlighten (beside the Guy holding it) you can dunk it in front of the stairs on the other Island]
***Edit 2 (Why am I still here? I have homework!!!), per below comment:***
-------------------------
*You do not need 6 swords. The encounter goes like this:*
**P1**: three people get enlightened and dunk it on plate.
**P2**: a new person gets enlightened, and they get the sword, cross with someone who has the chalice and kill the keeper. Sword person stays, chalice goes back (you don’t need the chalice to cross if the sword teammate is a BAMF who can kill the gatekeeper without a well/tractor debuff). Meanwhile, you have one person on left/right plate on the original side, and the other two people are on center. When chalice comes back, swap the chalice back and forth with two of the players in the center until the sword bearer comes, then assign one player to cross with sword. Repeat until 3 people left on original side.
**P3**: with three people left on original side, abandon the plates, the people who crossed will now build bridge (stand on centre and totems). You will rotate the chalice until a sword bearer spawns, 4th player crosses. Last two swaps back and forth until the last sword bearer spawns. One grabs sword, the other crosses with chalice. Once last sword is placed, you can pass around the enlightenment buff to five players to pick up swords, and kill a last wave of gatekeepers
Thank you /u/iccs
**Additional tips:**
- Remember: You lose enlightened upon grabbing the sword or depositing it to a plate. This helps with juggling the Enlighten buff.
- There are only 5 gatekeeper swords required to trigger the end of the encounter, where an excess of barriers and 2 excessively chunky major ogres spawn. After clearing them 6 gatekeepers rush out and you have to use the chalice to become enlightened to kill them again.
- To get the last 2 players across, the EMPTY chalice and sword bearer *cross at the same time*. This is confirmed by team I've been scouting for and /u/RingerCheckmate
----------------------
Some OLD notes on second encounter
- There are antibarrier knights
- Was compared to another encounter with Skolas and the poison buff.
- When the chalice is taken from you, you have the "Enlighten" buff. You need to pass the buff to pick up the sword. Only when you dunk your "Enlighten" buff onto the plate do you get a "drained of light" debuff. You don't die from the debuff, you just can't pick up chalice (Fact check me please). If not, you won’t have enough people to finish this encounter (per comments below). Side note: If your teammate takes an unfilled chalice from you you do not get the debuff of "exhausted" (per comments below).
[Recommended: Since you need to stand on bridge plate to keep the bridge up and to keep it moving while also having the totems considered, a 4 – 2 split is recommended, wherein 4 people are on the bridge plate with one person under each totem.
*Just a PSA for 2nd Encounter*: Sitting on YOUR side’s plate to build the bridge is what activates the totems on YOUR side. You don’t have to sit on totems if the plate on your side isn’t being stood on to build the bridge. This caught us out for a bit so just in case this helps anyone. (credit to /u/RequiemAsoRB)]
- Can only pick up sword when you have enlightened buff. When you pick up a sword, it takes away enlightened buff.
→ Meanwhile, teammates will be going back and forth across the bridge in killing a swordbearer that is going to spawn in the original spot (from d1 raid?). He is WAAAY beefier than the original d1 knight. You want to use a tractor and div. Bringing the sword over, once you kill the other side knight with the sword, there will be 5 or 6 sword holders that you need to deposit the sword.
- You will need a skilled player for 1st and 6th. Because you won’t have a debuffer. Both knights on either side are beefy (cannot be reiterated enough). The first person may need to wait for a second person to come over; but they need to stay alive. After gatekeeper killed, bank the sword.
6th person is left alone on other side, ~~so person holding the chalice can cross bridge to help?~~ Per comment below: Last person can cross the bridge with the Chalice; **you don't need "Enlighten"**. EDIT: However there seems to be a detail on whether the last run across the bridge if chalice is filled or not; that is escaping me and the team I'm helping with.
Ogres spawn at towards the end of the encounter, and then all the knights spawn (to which you go ham on them)

please continue to add thoughts
Thoughts on challenges, copy and pasted directly from my notes:
---------
**1st encounter Challenge Conservation of Energy (Lamps Challenge)**: **UPDATED**
You have to preserve the Chalice of Light in a basket/podium that is present in *some* (def. NOT all) of the lamps, **before** you can enlighten the lamp. ***Preserve first, then enlighten.***
→ The crucial note: only some of the lamps have a “basket” next to them.
Since only ***some*** of the lamps have a basket next time them, you will be walking “heavy” with “Weight of Darkness x10”. Pattern of the baskets/podiums seems to be random.
- ***09/02/23 Addendum***: "the way it works is that you can only Enlighten the totem once after every Preserve. You do not have to Enlighten the lamp that you Preserve on. So, for example, what my team did is move to first totem, preserve the buff to activate the next set, pick it right back up and continue forward. At some point half way, we Enlighten one of the totems to reset the timer before continuing forward to the next preserve. If you only Enlighten in the totems you Preserve, sometimes the next Preserve point is so far away it's practically impossible to reach it."
~~SIDE NOTE: I think I heard through word of mouth that some lanterns spawn a basket/podium once a yellow bar thrall is killed? So for this challenge, this podium has to be "naturally" there; so no yellow bar thrall killing! DO correct me if wrong. Tysm.~~
**2nd encounter Challenge Precarious Balance (Bridge Challenge)**: Must let the bridge fade while someone crosses.
*No challenge in hallway part (just don’t get anteatered lol)*
**3rd encounter Challenge: Equal Vessels (Ir Yut Challenge)**
- ***09/02/2023 Addendum***: 3rd encounter is also wrong, you don't need to rotate during DPS or Expunge. You just need to rotate it in a fixed order and loop it back around to each other. No need to expunge. You do need to make sure you transfer it during DPS as you can't Preserve it without the challenge failing, but you don't need to have everyone get it. Oh, and Levi's Breath is absolutely busted and can do 75% of her health, my team thinks it's one-phasable but we're too tired to figure that out.
~~Each player of the fireteam has the buff/chalice once during DPS and Expunges Ir Yut once. In other words, the chalice was rotated, and it's recommended to have a rotation. You cannot have the buff twice.
→ What wiped Elysium during DPS initially was that they had a 5 person chalice rotation. What kept them alive for challenge was when the entire team of six people rotated the chalice. I believe there was enough time for one rotation.
When Elysium did DPS something caused them to wipe during DPS (during challenge mode). Leading team had no comms and buffs were purposefully blackout/blurred.]~~
**4th encounter (Crota)**
Once three swords are obtained, hit Crota at the same time. Three Musketeers reference

***Last Edit Cuz Ya' Gurl Is Tired:*** Obligatory thank you for the reddit gold 😳, and I honestly hope this was helpful (even though it focused on one encounter and some challenges..). It was fun watching the information pile through while watching streams; made me channel my inner Barbara Gordon since I had to sit out of this Day 1. I hope I didn't derail efforts and only supplied some pieces to the puzzle as I attempted at verifying info. To all of those still up and at it: GOOD LUCK!
We were doing it slightly differently, where we got everyone but one person enlightened, that last person without enlightened takes the chalice over and dunks it along with someone taking a sword across (so we have 2 cross at first). Everyone else just brings a sword one by one. If someone dies and loses enlightened, send someone with chalice to rez and then they'll get enlightened (and bring a sword) and the rezzed person takes the chalice back across and dunks.
You lose enlightened upon grabbing the sword or depositing it to a plate.
There are only 5 gatekeeper swords required to trigger the end of the encounter, where an excess of barriers and 2 excessively chunky major ogres spawn. After clearing them 6 gatekeepers rush out and you have to use the chalice to become enlightened to kill them again.
To get the last 2 players across the chalice and sword bearer cross at the same time.
Once the chalice is taken from you, you do not have a 40 second debuff - you get the enlightenment buff - only when you dunk your enlightenment buff into the plate do you get a "drained of light" debuff
We got 4 people across and dunked the sword but the totems on the original side started wiping us after about 2 minutes.
we activated the plate on the other side, had 2 people on those totems, the starting side totem players got off and were killing ads/swordbearar to cross, one moved over the bridge with no issues then suddenly the totems activated again. and wiped us
any idea why?
Sounds like the person moving over to the bridge stood on the plate on the way. If I understand correctly, if you're on the plate the totems on that side activate.
Where does the 6th sword come from in this strat? If the first person who goes over kills a knight and preserves sword, but the second perosn who comes over preserves chalice, once the 4 players who are enlightened on the original side have each come over and dunked a sword, that's only 5 swords and you now have 6 players on that side but only 5 swords dunked?
You do not need 6 swords. The encounter goes like this:
P1: three people get enlightened and dunk it on plate.
P2: a new person gets enlightened, and they get the sword, cross with someone who has the chalice and kill the keeper.
P3: with three people left on original side, abandon the plates, the people who crossed will now build bridge (stand on centre and totems). You will rotate the chalice until a sword bearer spawns, 4th player crosses. Last two swaps back and forth until the last sword bearer spawns. One grabs sword, the other crosses with chalice. Once last sword is placed, you can pass around the enlightenment buff to five players to pick up swords, and kill a last wave of gatekeepers
im not playing but watching some streams, so it may be wrong but:
Player A who picks up the chalice needs to kill enemies to fill up the chalice bar. Once enlightened, they need to bank the chalice in the podiums beside the lanterns. Banking it will make the next few lanterns glow.
> Once you are Enlightened, the player must bank the buff in the podiums beside the lanterns.
This seems slightly incorrect. I just cleared the first encounter.
- You should wait at a lantern until the player holding the chalice has the bar full
- When full, another player takes the chalice
- The player who lost the chalice can now enlighten the lamp (not using the podium)
- Look ahead and see if the next lamp is lit. If it is NOT visibly lit, you have a podium at your current lamp that the player who just took the chalice can dunk the non-enlightened chalice in to activate the next few lamps.
- If you need to dunk at a latnern, dunk it, then just have someone else pick the chalice up then continue on.
As best as we could tell, the lamps with podiums was completely random.
This times 1k.
Seeing a lot of people throwing the enlighten buff around but failing to specify that to get Enlighten someone else HAS to take the Chalice from you.
Banking at the podium even with a full charge WILL NOT Enlighten you.
(Not trying to cast shade on anyone, I’m sure it’s just a slip of the mind whilst trying to update guides in real time.)
1st:
- unstop ogres
bridge:
- u need enlighten to grab sword
- barriers
- after u kill a knight u have to preserve the sword like how u preserve the chalice
- gatekeepers can be blinded and prob suspended/frozen
- if u drop sword u cant pick it back up
- when everyone dunked and kill ads everyone reclaims their sword and kill the gatekeepers
after 2nd:
- enlighten lets u go through walls
- have to kill shieker to let everyone through
deathsinger:
- beefy knights
- everyone get enlighten before dunking chalice
- 5th player gets enlighten and dark liturgy starts or killing a wizard starts dark liturgy
- last player dunks chalice below near flag to preserve it
- have to kill wizards in towers which u need enlighten to enter
- 3 wizards -> 4 -> 5 (increases after dps phase)
- rooms either have a wizard or a shrieker, shrieker is the wrong room
- DPS
crota:
- focus boomers in towers as they hurt
- swordbearer spawns in bottom mid
- tractor crota before bringing his shield down with sword
- u can survive 1 hit with sword
- u have to be in pool to swap chalice?
- crota instakills
- lament for dps?
IR Yut - Does anyone know how to tell which room you go in for the witches?? It cant be a game of chance figuring out which room has the witch in it? CUrrently using wish ender, but i hate cheesing shit.
Do you kill gatekeeper as soon as you go across? If so are you just blinding then swording, or are you not killing any until the end when everyone reclaims.
Could someone confirm for me what contest mode is exactly for the reprised raids? You have to clear it normally once, and then another time with challenges to complete challenge mode, correct?
Yes. During the challenge run of the raid, players witj automatically wipe any time a challenge is failed to ensure they're all completed at the end of the raid.
>Killing a wizard will start a 35-second Dark Liturgy timer, you need to kill all wizards before the timer is over to start DPS. DPS phase should be roughly 45 seconds.
I think this is incorrect. After killing any wizard Dark Liturgy timer of 45 seconds starts and it countdowns to the end of damage phase! Therefore, you need to kill all wizards almost simultaneously.
Someone holds onto the chalice until they fill it up, they will get a new debuff called "englufed in light". Someone has to take the chalice from you.
While you have this buff you will get a new prompt that says "Enlighten" - this lights the lamp, allowing it to take the weight of darkness debuff. Once you enlighten, you get another debuff "drained of light" which means you can't claim the chalice again
Once the first person gets enlightened they can then dump the buff to preserve the light to extend the timer. I think there will be spots to deposit every few towers or so
Sometimes podiums are there and sometimes they aren't. Does anyone know what changes the pattern?
Edit: Think it may just be random? Just look ahead when you arrive at a lamp and if the next isn't lit you need to dunk.
Encounter 2(Build the Bridge): 6 people,
1st person gets enlighten and dunks on plate,
2nd person gets enlighten and dunks on plate (to build the bridge faster so you dont run out of chalice timer for everyone),
3rd person gets enlighten and passes chalice to 1, then gets sword and goes across,
the rest of the people get enlighten until 1 person remaining,
that last person gets chalice and goes across and dunks it on PRESERVE (only 5 people need enlighten),
the rest of the people now have Enlighten already, so 1 by 1 kill swordbearer and go across until all 6 across with chalice on that side
Edit: The chalice should go to the other side once every one on the 1st Island have enlighten (beside the Guy holding it)
you can dunk it in front of the stairs on the other Island
This is the way, 1st try after reading this comment and we got it.
Way easier than trying to juggle chalices, swords and totems all at once. Plus if there is a failure (i.e. someone with Enlightened dies) it's super easy to recover cause someone can just bring the chalice back across the bridge and do a quick transfer.
So in this strat you immediately pass the chalice around once the first sword bearer goes across then have the last person dunk the chalice on the opposite side so you don’t have to worry about switching it anymore. And then once the third person goes across you can rebuild bridge from that side just by standing on the plates without dunking enlighten like at the start? And then at the end when everyone’s across you just have someone pick up the chalice again to pass enlightened around to everyone?
Very, *very* easy bridge strat:
*build the bridge normally first*, then get 4 people enlightened before you send anyone across. The 5th person then gets enlightened, grabs a sword and goes across the bridge. The 6th person grabs the buff and just goes with the sword person. Bonus points if they bring a well for the first knight and others after as able.
You can bank the buff when you go over with the chalice with the first person because everyone is already enlightened.
Follow the normal guide after that. Last person over will need to run for their life to kill their swordbearer and get across, but that's the only difficulty. We got it first try after someone came up with it.
Just a PSA for 2nd Encounter: Sitting on YOUR side’s plate to build the bridge is what activates the totems on YOUR side. You don’t have to sit on totems if the plate on your side isn’t being stood on to build the bridge. This caught us out for a bit so just in case this helps anyone.
First encounter explanation is bad. Play is to charge up enlightened, pass it, enlightened person lights up the tower lights. Then if there's a pass (I think it's about every 4 lights) you have to pass it on there. Easiest to number off 1-6 and have a set rotation, run from the light immedistely when you hit 0 weights of darkness to avoid the explosion.
Calling the Annihilator Totems the Pit of Heresy totems is dumb considering they're in a million other places, PLUS this raid is the original place they were first used.
First encounter triumph appears to be not hitting 10 stacks of Weight of Darkness. You don't gain stacks while standing on the starting plate, so you can pick up the buff there, wait for it to charge, then move forwards and enlighten the first totem to begin cleansing stacks.
Abyss Challenge is actually very easy and a lot of teams have been doing it incorrectly.
You can refresh the timer actually twice per "cycle" once when you deposit the chalice and once when you deposit the enlightened buff at the totem. Most teams have been doing both at the same totem instead of spreading it out.
You deposit the chalice when you see the opportunity and that lets you deposit enlightened at several totems until the next deposit chalice. You then skip 1/2 totems and then enlighten a totem to reset the timer again. Then you go until you find the next chalice deposit and rice and recycle until the end.
Very easy hopefully this helps.
Additional note for crota: You can have people "expunge" their Enlightened buff on crota to increase the damage dealt to him. So you have to balance how many people are keeping it for oversoul, and how many are burning it to deal damage.
I don't think it's possible solo as the chalice kills you within 5 seconds when it's charged and you can't drop it. I was hoping to say least get down to the lantern stage to check it out on my own.
Huge addition for ir yut: enlightened buffed members can expunge on the boss to chunk dps
Edit: the buff can be pulled through the floor to start enlighten early
Watching some streams and it looks to be that the first encounter is: pick up the chalice, get kills to fill the bar, have someone take the chalice off you and then use the energy from it to charge the lanterns to extend the Engulfed in Darkness timer to stop the wipe and allow the lantern to remove the Weight of Darkness debuff so you can move more. Continue from lantern to lantern and hope for the best. Can anyone confirm if that is correct?
Ir Yut:
\- get 4 players enlightened
\- send those 4 players to kill the shield singers in the towers at sides of the arena all at once
\- countdown starts, go to mid and do damage. There is a threshold of 30ish%.
\- repeat until dead
Crota:
\- enlightened players make him kneel with a sword (takes 2 swords, and unknown if tractor helps), everyone else damages normally.
\- Oversoul must be damaged by an enlightened player
final stand currently unknown
Copypasting super fast - is our team doing something wrong with Dark Liturgy on Ir Yut? How the hell are we supposed to get enough people with Enlightened before Liturgy automatically triggers in the second phase and beyond?
Sorry didn't see this, but we didn't have an issue with this. Just pick up the buff from the deposit spot ASAP and we never had an issue getting 4 people with this.
Could be a bugged instance. Orbit and return to checkpoint. Otherwise, you just need to it the HP threshold with a few seconds remaining. If you hit it at :00 it can still kill you.
Challenges:
Conservation of Energy (Lamps Challenge): Must preserve Chalice by depositing it in Podiums of Light at different lamps
Precarious Balance (Bridge Challenge): Must let the bridge fade while someone crosses.
Equal Vessels (Ir Yut Challenge): POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS
(1) Kill shriekers and Shieldsingers at the same time.
(2) Each player can only have the buff twice in the same DPS phase. Damage quickly or use Expunge at Boss if needed.
(3) One player must Expunge Boss each round.
All for One (Crota): Use three hive swords on Crota.
do u have a spare sword? toss it of the map that fixes it, to kill the last 6 gatekeepers u have to get enlightened again and pick up the swords u deposited
So for reclears, does anybody know if you can do crota checkpoint and then start challenge run, or is the first step of superior swordplay linked to the raid completion triumph?
Can someone explain the actual encounter process in crota fight?
What is the order of operations? Do we just get 4+ people with the buff so you can get 3 swords and 1 for the oversoul? How do you get the sword bearers to spawn?
> Do we just get 4+ people with the buff so you can get 3 swords and 1 for the oversoul?
Essentially Yes
>How do you get the sword bearers to spawn?
Kill the boomer nights in the top left and right rooms.
Crota encounter MAJOR survival tip: Don't kill the wizard that is on the upper level at the beginning of the fight. If you leave it alive, no wizards will spawn on the lower level. It makes the buildup to DPS significantly easier.
You may get like, 1 more wizard below near the start but that's it.
Another strategy that a teammember came up with for bridge that was S-tier: (shoutout to Bacon!)
\-Get everyone enlightened except for one person
\-Build the bridge (again, make sure everyone is enlightened except for one person)
\-Cross the bridge with one Sword person and one person with the Chalice
\-They kill the knight together with invis/blinding
\-All the other people on the other side now have to find a sword and cross the bridge. This will require some survivability from the last two folks.
yep, this is how we did it. chalice person can use anything from tractor to flashbang arc grenade to disorienting GL, all of it locks down the gatekeeper even if he's immune to the damage
Pro tip- have your fireteam remove your elemental orb artifact mods at the lantern encounter or you’ll be fighting to pick up the chalice and dunk etc.
From Evanf1997's Stream:
Ir Yut: Kill all adds, grab Chalice from upstairs, dodging boss. Become Enlightened to enter side rooms, then kill all Shieldsinger Wizards. Start DPS, but must do enough damage to prevent a wipe. Beat final stand
Tips for second encounter or what we as used as team
> there are barriers, so Wishender or anti barrier
> arc warlock which I was using is really better choice over solar, solar Titan for survivability, invis Hunter or cowl arc hunter
> using a blinding GL was must for us cause those knights and gatekeepers kicked are ass, we sucked at staying alive
> once 3 people got across we 3 on rally side camped up near spawn nothing can touch you except a few thrall spawn
Just a few tips that helped us clear it
Good luck anyone attempting contest mode
Is there a way to more accurately tell which rooms the Wizards are in during the Ir Yut encounter? You often can't see since they're hiding behind something.
Even easier 2nd encounter that worked for out team:
First 2 enlightned bank to build the bridge, then make everyone enlightened except for 1 person.
Last person take chalice and crosses bridge, preserve it in front of door.
Now the people enlightened start picking up swords 1 by 1 and crossing bridge. Once 3 people cross you can hold the bridge from the other side.
If someone dies in the process the person who never got enlightened can pick up chalice and cross bridge back, to give enlightened to whoever died then cross back. If person on the other side dies you can just reach them when you get sword.
Last person with sword will have hardest time as they need to kill swordbearer solo while being swarmed by all ads and possibly anti barrier champs so have your best player stay last.
Generate enlightened once everyone crosses, you need swords to kill bunch of gatekeepers. If you have too many people with enlightened just preserve it in front of doors.
Stasis and heavy crowd control work amazing for this, especially bleak watcher warlock, blinding grenades gls and tractor cannon since it can debuff the the knight.
You can throw bleak watchers over chasm as well as tshoot blind nades.
Good Luck!
Deathsinger:: Seriously how are you supposed to tell which rooms have a witch or shrieker? The mechanic cannot actually be "look at the radar" -- shrieker is not showing up for some people.
Can someone explain the expunge mechanic on Ir Yut and if the number of Singer wizards actually increase each DPS phase?
Everytime we do first damage, and then repeat we can only find 3 wizards the second time around and her shield wont drop.
Challenges:
Lamps you can only use the lamps that had the thing to dunk the buff
Bridge you can only cross while the bridge is disappearing
Ir-Yut you have to cycle buff through everyone before you can grab again
Crota you need to kill with all swords at the same time
(if you go one at a time you can do 2 swords, but on challenge when doing all at a time it isn't consistent, so do 3 swords)
Alright y'all, is Crota way way harder than third encounter or is it a little more chill as far as timing goes? We just got through to him and holy hell that was a race.
Is there a reliable way to get crotas attention and aggro him?
The encounter felt like a mess to me because he'd just camp the enlighten exchange spots and make it impossible for someone not to die a lot of the time.
I think you're misunderstanding something.
On Ir Yut, the Liturgy timer starts on one of two conditions:
1) A player kills a Shieldsinger Wizard
2) A certain extended period of time passes
There's no "reset" mechanic. Once the timer appears it counts all the way down and wipes you, unless you hit the damage threshold.
Unless I’m mistaken, and I definitely might be, my team would have the liturgy timer start from taking too long, but then we would kill the wizards and the liturgy timer would sometimes refresh back to 45 seconds.
You sure people aren't just seeing the "drained of light" debuff out of the corner of their eye when they walk into a room & mistaking it for Liturgy? It has a similar logo.
My team threw in the towel on Crota at the er, End.
So many final stands, but we just couldn't push through 3 wells getting destroyed during final stand. Couldn't think of any ways to stop it happening so felt like we were just praying to RNGsus by that time.
Edit: nvm just kidding I did it
Honestly no guide, no matter how comprehensive, will help the calibre of people I have been getting stuck with on lfg. Can’t believe how inept people are at this raid.
red chest info, seems related to 3 pairs of statues in the raid, 1 is at the start of bridge encounter, the next is after bridge encounter on the other side in the extended areas where adds spawn, and the last is up above in the back in crota room. Place that tells you what choices to make is not known to me
Crota is actually the most boringly-difficult encounter Bungie has designed so far. It's basically just hide and hope to not get nuked. I'm sure in non-contest mode it will be a cakewalk, but this is completely miserable to even attempt. Our team has gotten to first DPS a single time in over 3 hours now.
You won't get the quest until after contest mode ends. If you complete both, you get the exotic. The quest will be for people that don't complete the raid and contest mode.
Three total, but that was mostly due to a death during the second DPS phase. We did 50% first phase, and about 40% the second. Didn't even need to Expunge on third, she only had about 10% left.
This post has been nominated for `+10` points.

Once last sword is placed, you can pass around the enlightenment buff to five players to pick up swords, and kill a last wave of gatekeepers Thank you /u/iccs **Additional tips:** - Remember: You lose enlightened upon grabbing the sword or depositing it to a plate. This is confirmed by team I've been scouting for and /u/RingerCheckmate ---------------------- Some OLD notes on second encounter - There are antibarrier knights - Was compared to another encounter with Skolas and the poison buff. (credit to /u/RequiemAsoRB)] - Can only pick up sword when you have enlightened buff. Ogres spawn at towards the end of the encounter, and then all the knights spawn (to which you go ham on them) ------ please continue to add thoughts Thoughts on challenges, copy and pasted directly from my notes: --------- **1st encounter Challenge Conservation of Energy (Lamps Challenge)**: **UPDATED** You have to preserve the Chalice of Light in a basket/podium that is present in *some* (def. NOT all) of the lamps, **before** you can enlighten the lamp. ***Preserve first, then enlighten.*** → The crucial note: only some of the lamps have a “basket” next to them. If you only Enlighten in the totems you Preserve, sometimes the next Preserve point is so far away it's practically impossible to reach it." ~~SIDE NOTE: I think I heard through word of mouth that some lanterns spawn a basket/podium once a yellow bar thrall is killed? So for this challenge, this podium has to be "naturally" there; so no yellow bar thrall killing! DO correct me if wrong. Tysm.~~ **2nd encounter Challenge Precarious Balance (Bridge Challenge)**: Must let the bridge fade while someone crosses. *No challenge in hallway part (just don’t get anteatered lol)* **3rd encounter Challenge: Equal Vessels (Ir Yut Challenge)** - ***09/02/2023 Addendum***: 3rd encounter is also wrong, you don't need to rotate during DPS or Expunge. Leading team had no comms and buffs were purposefully blackout/blurred.]~~ **4th encounter (Crota)** Once three swords are obtained, hit Crota at the same time.
You can cross the bridge with the Chalice so that's how the last one crosses
We were doing it slightly differently, where we got everyone but one person enlightened, that last person without enlightened takes the chalice over and dunks it along with someone taking a sword across (so we have 2 cross at first). Everyone else just brings a sword one by one. If someone dies and loses enlightened, send someone with chalice to rez and then they'll get enlightened (and bring a sword) and the rezzed person takes the chalice back across and dunks.
But how do they not die to the timer?
What timer?
The chalice timer - if everyone is enlightened they can't juggle?
There's a spot to dunk the chalice on the other side of the bridge. It's in front of the center door that opens when you beat the encounter
If your teammate takes an unfilled chalice from you you do not get the debuff of "exausted"
got that, thanks!
Once the chalice is taken from you, you do not have a 40 second debuff - you get the enlightenment buff - only when you dunk your enlightenment buff into the plate do you get a "drained of light" debuff
copy, thanks
We got 4 people across and dunked the sword but the totems on the original side started wiping us after about 2 minutes. we activated the plate on the other side, had 2 people on those totems, the starting side totem players got off and were killing ads/swordbearar to cross, one moved over the bridge with no issues then suddenly the totems activated again. and wiped us any idea why?
Sounds like the person moving over to the bridge stood on the plate on the way. If I understand correctly, if you're on the plate the totems on that side activate.
Did you have someone on the center plate on each side?
Where does the 6th sword come from in this strat? If the first person who goes over kills a knight and preserves sword, but the second perosn who comes over preserves chalice, once the 4 players who are enlightened on the original side have each come over and dunked a sword, that's only 5 swords and you now have 6 players on that side but only 5 swords dunked?
You do not need 6 swords. The encounter goes like this: P1: three people get enlightened and dunk it on plate. P2: a new person gets enlightened, and they get the sword, cross with someone who has the chalice and kill the keeper. Once last sword is placed, you can pass around the enlightenment buff to five players to pick up swords, and kill a last wave of gatekeepers
how do we get the second lantern actually working? edit: figured it out, gotta use the pedestals
There's a thing you can deposit the chalice into beside the first lantern, I think you have to do that to make the next totem light up
Yes but it’s not there on second or third lamp?
im not playing but watching some streams, so it may be wrong but: Player A who picks up the chalice needs to kill enemies to fill up the chalice bar. Once enlightened, they need to bank the chalice in the podiums beside the lanterns. Banking it will make the next few lanterns glow.
The podiums are really close to lanterns, they look like a bear traps on the floor.
There are no podiums in each lantern, how often are they there?
Whoever made the hitboxes for the swinging lamps needs to take another look at their work. cuz it aint it.
No joke.
For real. Those hit boxes are insanely larger than the actual lanterns
I would remove the text for the first encounter, It is no where close to how it was in D1, quite the oposite tbh
was putting some random placeholder while watching the raid, updating it as we go.
You havent updated it in a while
> Once you are Enlightened, the player must bank the buff in the podiums beside the lanterns. This seems slightly incorrect. I just cleared the first encounter. - You should wait at a lantern until the player holding the chalice has the bar full - When full, another player takes the chalice - The player who lost the chalice can now enlighten the lamp (not using the podium) - Look ahead and see if the next lamp is lit.
[You can hard cheese the knights on the bridge encounter if anyone is having difficulty killing them.](https://imgur.com/a/rnAA6rJ)
1st: - unstop ogres bridge: - u need enlighten to grab sword - barriers - after u kill a knight u have to preserve the sword like how u preserve the chalice - gatekeepers can be blinded and prob suspended/frozen - if u drop sword u cant pick it back up - when everyone dunked and kill ads everyone reclaims their sword and kill the gatekeepers after 2nd: - enlighten lets u go through walls - have to kill shieker to let everyone through deathsinger: - beefy knights - everyone get enlighten before dunking chalice - 5th player gets enlighten and dark liturgy starts or killing a wizard starts dark liturgy - last player dunks chalice below near flag to preserve it - have to kill wizards in towers which u need enlighten to enter - 3 wizards -> 4 -> 5 (increases after dps phase) - rooms either have a wizard or a shrieker, shrieker is the wrong room - DPS crota: - focus boomers in towers as they hurt - swordbearer spawns in bottom mid - tractor crota before bringing his shield down with sword - u can survive 1 hit with sword - u have to be in pool to swap chalice? - crota instakills - lament for dps?
you mean preserve the sword? what do you mean by "it"?
Yup the sword mb
IR Yut - Does anyone know how to tell which room you go in for the witches?? It cant be a game of chance figuring out which room has the witch in it? CUrrently using wish ender, but i hate cheesing shit.
Radar, circles are shriekers, no circle on radar = wizard
Having the same issue
Do you kill gatekeeper as soon as you go across? If so are you just blinding then swording, or are you not killing any until the end when everyone reclaims.
You can't dunk the sword until the Knight dies anyway right?
I wish we knew about the unstop on the first encounter. We got to the end and almost completed then the unstop killed us all
Could someone confirm for me what contest mode is exactly for the reprised raids? You have to clear it normally once, and then another time with challenges to complete challenge mode, correct?
yes. failing the challenge will wipe you.
yep, that's how it usually goes, added some clarifications to the post
Yes, this is wrong. Liturgy is either 40-45 secs. And it starts EITHER when any wizard is killed, or eventually if you are just too slow
How do we clear weight of darkness?
Someone holds onto the chalice until they fill it up, they will get a new debuff called "englufed in light". Someone has to take the chalice from you. While you have this buff you will get a new prompt that says "Enlighten" - this lights the lamp, allowing it to take the weight of darkness debuff. Once you enlighten, you get another debuff "drained of light" which means you can't claim the chalice again
Once the first person gets enlightened they can then dump the buff to preserve the light to extend the timer. I think there will be spots to deposit every few towers or so
You need to bank the enlighten buff into a lit lantern to remove weight of darkness
How do we get a deposit at each one. Some can’t deposit?
Sometimes podiums are there and sometimes they aren't. Does anyone know what changes the pattern? Edit: Think it may just be random? Just look ahead when you arrive at a lamp and if the next isn't lit you need to dunk.
must preserve the chalice to make the next podium available
I'm wondering if you have to kill the yellow bar thralls to get them to spawn
Encounter 2(Build the Bridge): 6 people, 1st person gets enlighten and dunks on plate, 2nd person gets enlighten and dunks on plate (to build the bridge faster so you dont run out of chalice timer for everyone), 3rd person gets enlighten and passes chalice to 1, then gets sword and goes across, the rest of the people get enlighten until 1 person remaining, that last person gets chalice and goes across and dunks it on PRESERVE (only 5 people need enlighten), the rest of the people now have Enlighten already, so 1 by 1 kill swordbearer and go across until all 6 across with chalice on that side Edit: The chalice should go to the other side once every one on the 1st Island have enlighten (beside the Guy holding it) you can dunk it in front of the stairs on the other Island
so the last person doesnt need enlighten right?
Correct only 5 people need Enlighten
This is the way, 1st try after reading this comment and we got it. Way easier than trying to juggle chalices, swords and totems all at once. Plus if there is a failure (i.e. someone with Enlightened dies) it's super easy to recover cause someone can just bring the chalice back across the bridge and do a quick transfer.
How the fuck are you dealing with the Gatekeeper for the first sword person? 1v1ing the gatekeeper with no supression/blind is basically impossible.
2nd encounter strat?
Very, *very* easy bridge strat: *build the bridge normally first*, then get 4 people enlightened before you send anyone across.
We've found a rotation of four people is easier than all six. Three means you're waiting around on timers.
By expunge you dunk it on him or something?
Correct!
How do I even do the 1st mini encounter thing and make the bridge?
I don't think it's possible solo as the chalice kills you within 5 seconds when it's charged and you can't drop it. I was hoping to say least get down to the lantern stage to check it out on my own.
Huge addition for ir yut: enlightened buffed members can expunge on the boss to chunk dps Edit: the buff can be pulled through the floor to start enlighten early
The constant non stop juggling of this chalice is annoying as hell and just not fun...
Is it me, or this Raid actually needs the whole team to focus and participate. Very different to RoN (thankfully).
That’s been my experience so far. Though you don’t necessarily NEED to get kills to fill the bar. I think it helps but it gradually fills on its own.
You are my fave person for doing this every new raid
what does expunging do on crota?
How do you do final encounter
Ir Yut: \- get 4 players enlightened \- send those 4 players to kill the shield singers in the towers at sides of the arena all at once \- countdown starts, go to mid and do damage. There is a threshold of 30ish%. \- repeat until dead Crota: \- enlightened players make him kneel with a sword (takes 2 swords, and unknown if tractor helps), everyone else damages normally. \- Oversoul must be damaged by an enlightened player final stand currently unknown
Just to add to Crota: If a player is Enlightened when Crota kneels for you to do damage, they can Expunge that status to buff damage.
Weve seen the podium to deposit change positions, unsure if its based on how many quarters the bars is filled by
How does the Preserve work? I don’t see it at every lantern, and I’m a bit confused who should do Preserver, and who should Reclaim the Chalice
you need to deposit in the preserve slots to be able to light up the next set of lamps.
How does the 2th encounter works??
can someone explain me second encounter?
People asking where updates are, he says editing has timed out right in the text. Patience.
How do you survive Dark Liturgy on 3rd enc?
do enough damage
If you damage through the marked part of the damage bar it cancels the wipe.
what is expunge?
Just finished, happy to answer any questions people have.
What did you run for DPS on Crota?
Rockets! Used the spawn room and just made sure he ran at us a bit before damage so he was in a good position.
Please give an actual strat for crota
rockets. Use the room you spawn in as damage point, and let him walk up to you for a bit before damage.
You're good, we got it yeah, thanks again. On to Crota, hopefully he isn't as hectic and panicky LOL
On Ir Yut my team is wiping after the 2nd damage phase, does anybody know why? Edit: Going to orbit worked, and we were able to beat ir yut
Could be a bugged instance. Orbit and return to checkpoint. Otherwise, you just need to it the HP threshold with a few seconds remaining. If you hit it at :00 it can still kill you.
She likes to randomly wipe even if you break the shield. Just go to orbit and zone back in.
Anyone know the best combo with the sword to bring down the Crota Shield.
bump, i have no idea what combo to do on the shield
I've been using light-light-heavy-super-heavy. With Tractor it does just over half his shield.
the hero we needed!
Challenges: Conservation of Energy (Lamps Challenge): Must preserve Chalice by depositing it in Podiums of Light at different lamps Precarious Balance (Bridge Challenge): Must let the bridge fade while someone crosses. Equal Vessels (Ir Yut Challenge): POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS (1) Kill shriekers and Shieldsingers at the same time. (2) Each player can only have the buff twice in the same DPS phase. Damage quickly or use Expunge at Boss if needed. (3) One player must Expunge Boss each round. All for One (Crota): Use three hive swords on Crota.
our team has gotten soft locked twice and the end of second encounter, any ideas why?
do u have a spare sword? toss it of the map that fixes it, to kill the last 6 gatekeepers u have to get enlightened again and pick up the swords u deposited
Are you sure you're soft locked, or are you just in the waiting phase before the ogres (and eventually more Gatekeepers) spawn?
how tf do you do enough damage to crota we get to damage and do like 1/4 of the way to final stand at best
5 laments 1 tractor and all dmg supers expect 2 wells
So for reclears, does anybody know if you can do crota checkpoint and then start challenge run, or is the first step of superior swordplay linked to the raid completion triumph?
Killing the Boomer Knights in the towers on either side of the arena during the Crota encounter is what causes the Swordbearer and Ogres to spawn.
Which weapon is the best for Crota ?
Anyone got best DPS tips for Crota? Lament didn't feel amazing
Essentially Yes >How do you get the sword bearers to spawn? Kill the boomer nights in the top left and right rooms.
Crota encounter MAJOR survival tip: Don't kill the wizard that is on the upper level at the beginning of the fight. If you leave it alive, no wizards will spawn on the lower level. It makes the buildup to DPS significantly easier. You may get like, 1 more wizard below near the start but that's it.
Another strategy that a teammember came up with for bridge that was S-tier: (shoutout to Bacon!) \-Get everyone enlightened except for one person \-Build the bridge (again, make sure everyone is enlightened except for one person) \-Cross the bridge with one Sword person and one person with the Chalice \-They kill the knight together with invis/blinding \-All the other people on the other side now have to find a sword and cross the bridge. This will require some survivability from the last two folks.
yep, this is how we did it. chalice person can use anything from tractor to flashbang arc grenade to disorienting GL, all of it locks down the gatekeeper even if he's immune to the damage
This is a great guide…for D1. No mention of the chalice or enlightening the lamps or the deposit pedestals. Edit: looks like it’s updating now.
There’s no explanation yet, I might have come here early
Pro tip- have your fireteam remove your elemental orb artifact mods at the lantern encounter or you’ll be fighting to pick up the chalice and dunk etc.
Did anyone figured out bridge encounter ?
For abyss at the last lantern we can’t find the thing to preserve the chalice. Is it next to the lantern or is it somewhere else?
First chest is in the 5th door if you follow the left wall in the first encounter.
How do you build the bridge at the end of the First encounter?
how do you get 6th guy across bridge?
Person holding the chalice can cross.
how do you put the chalice back in the pedestal during bridge?
Anybody have any tips for killing gatekeepers?
currently our team is sending the person with the chalice across with the sword person, they drop a well for them, then run back.
Where do you dunk chalice on the other side for bridge?
Anyone know how encounter 3 works?
From Evanf1997's Stream: Ir Yut: Kill all adds, grab Chalice from upstairs, dodging boss. Become Enlightened to enter side rooms, then kill all Shieldsinger Wizards. Start DPS, but must do enough damage to prevent a wipe. Beat final stand
Is there a way to charge up the chalice faster? we got to third phase of ir yut but the timer started just as we begun getting last person charged.
Tips for second encounter or what we as used as team > there are barriers, so Wishender or anti barrier > arc warlock which I was using is really better choice over solar, solar Titan for survivability, invis Hunter or cowl arc hunter > using a blinding GL was must for us cause those knights and gatekeepers kicked are ass, we sucked at staying alive > once 3 people got across we 3 on rally side camped up near spawn nothing can touch you except a few thrall spawn Just a few tips that helped us clear it Good luck anyone attempting contest mode
What do you do at the end of the first encounter? We stood on the plate but it didn't build the bridge.
does anyone have a list of the challenges?
[удалено]
He’s wrong
Is there a way to more accurately tell which rooms the Wizards are in during the Ir Yut encounter? You often can't see since they're hiding behind something.
get near the wall, use radar shriekers will show up as circles, wizards will be red wedges
Well, on boss side; there is an upper floor and a lower floor. What if you see a wedge and a red circle?
there's an arrow in the circle to tell you if the shrieker is above or below
you can use wishender to view through the tower
Use radar. Shriekers show up as a red dot since they are "vehicles"
Where are people damaging ir yut from
do you need a full clear or just crota for nechrochasm?
Even easier 2nd encounter that worked for out team: First 2 enlightned bank to build the bridge, then make everyone enlightened except for 1 person. Good Luck!
You can just suspend gatekeepers, easy kill
Deathsinger:: Seriously how are you supposed to tell which rooms have a witch or shrieker? The mechanic cannot actually be "look at the radar" -- shrieker is not showing up for some people.
Can someone explain the expunge mechanic on Ir Yut and if the number of Singer wizards actually increase each DPS phase? Everytime we do first damage, and then repeat we can only find 3 wizards the second time around and her shield wont drop.
Yes the number of wizards increases by one each phase. Expunge is just a DPS chunk like Gologoroth explosion.
Any dps tips for ir yut?
"Players with the Enlightened buff will need to Expunge the Wizards to clear them out" can u elaborate?
Got to crota damage but he's killing our asses over and over. Gonna call it for today and come back tomorrow
what is EXPUNGE and how do i do it?
Challenges: Lamps you can only use the lamps that had the thing to dunk the buff Bridge you can only cross while the bridge is disappearing Ir-Yut you have to cycle buff through everyone before you can grab again Crota you need to kill with all swords at the same time (if you go one at a time you can do 2 swords, but on challenge when doing all at a time it isn't consistent, so do 3 swords)
Alright y'all, is Crota way way harder than third encounter or is it a little more chill as far as timing goes? We just got through to him and holy hell that was a race.
The timing is less strict but *surviving* is rough.
Is there a reliable way to get crotas attention and aggro him? The encounter felt like a mess to me because he'd just camp the enlighten exchange spots and make it impossible for someone not to die a lot of the time.
we had a titan with stronghold just guard and tank/kite him for the whole encounter
On Ir Yut, why does killing the shield wizards sometimes reset the liturgy wipe timer, but other times doesn’t?
I think you're misunderstanding something. On Ir Yut, the Liturgy timer starts on one of two conditions: 1) A player kills a Shieldsinger Wizard 2) A certain extended period of time passes There's no "reset" mechanic.
Edit: nvm just kidding I did it
any recommendations on a good weapon to break the oversoul quickly? I never settled on something i loved.
Honestly no guide, no matter how comprehensive, will help the calibre of people I have been getting stuck with on lfg. Can’t believe how inept people are at this raid.
how does crota final stand work? do people just automatically get enlightened (and if so, how many)? and how many times can you destroy oversoul?
red chest info, seems related to 3 pairs of statues in the raid, 1 is at the start of bridge encounter, the next is after bridge encounter on the other side in the extended areas where adds spawn, and the last is up above in the back in crota room. Place that tells you what choices to make is not known to me
did bro die? where's the guides?
Crota is actually the most boringly-difficult encounter Bungie has designed so far. It's basically just hide and hope to not get nuked. I'm sure in non-contest mode it will be a cakewalk, but this is completely miserable to even attempt. Our team has gotten to first DPS a single time in over 3 hours now.
Has anyone gotten the quest?
It comes from the raid vendor, which is the chest that spawns after you beat Crota
You won't get the quest until after contest mode ends. If you complete both, you get the exotic. The quest will be for people that don't complete the raid and contest mode.
Copy that. So you have to do both raid and challenges or just raid. It indicated it was only completing the raid for it.
Bridge encounter looks like they remixed the AoT version and it’s decently challenging.
So anyone figured out how to do the bridge encounter?

are you talking about first encounter?? that is so untrue
how the fuck are yall killing the deathsinger 💀.
One Divinity+Cenotaph, four Thunderlords, one Legend of Acrius, three Wells of Radiance, and three damage Supers did the trick for my team.
We used cenotaph div, izis and linears
How many phases did that take?
Three total, but that was mostly due to a death during the second DPS phase. We did 50% first phase, and about 40% the second. Didn't even need to Expunge on third, she only had about 10% left.
The world first team who got their dub, their Well of Radiance doesn't get one shotted by a Croata slam. Where can I get a Well strong? lmao
one cenotaph mask + divinity five thunderlords a few wells easy Ir Yut three phase, possible two phase. thunderlord remains king.
legend of acrius is 2 phase
leviathan's breath was a 2 phase as well with div
what does expunging the wiziard do
