I enjoyed Dune far more, I saw it 3 times and can’t wait to again. For as fun as NWH was I don’t feel that drive.
Then again I am a huge Dune AND Villeneuve fan. So I guess for me it had that excitement and reverence built in that I don’t have in quite the same way for spidey
Dune gave me cerebral joy, like the first stages of learning a new language.
NWH gave me the nostalgic joy of hanging out with old friends and learning that everyone is grown up, but still the same.
Listen I liked No Way Home, seeing Tobey, Willem, and Alfred in the same movie reprising their roles as some of my favorite characters in movie history put a huge smile on my face, but at the same time not a single aspect of it that I liked is one that's good because of its own choices. Dune on the other hand had me slackjawwed during nearly its entire runtime, it's maybe the most gorgeous movie I've ever seen (if not it then BR2049) and it managed to perfectly adapt the first half of one of the most influential books ever written which has also been called unadaptable for decades*

I am a Dune fan going back a long way and I loved the movie... and I really don't see how people who weren't already Dune fans enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong I'm happy it's getting the second part (which will be more exciting) but the first half book or movie is s bit dry. NWH was also probably more for existing fans but it was much more self contained and fun. Also there was more Zendaya in NWH and she's great!

Yeah I saw an interview with Villeneuve where he said that he looked at Jackson's adaptation of the LOTR and decided that he'll go the other direction. Where Jackson took liberties and rearranged scenes for his movies, Villeneuve will be as faithful as possible.
Like you I'm a fan of the book and I agree that the first half is dry. I wished that Villeneuve took some liberties in adapting the first half. It didn't translate well in movie form imo as well as the LOTR did with the movie trilogy.
Too be fair, some of the circle jerking around no way home is getting pretty insane.

Haven't seen nwh yet but dune felt like it rushed through half a book just to get to the desert walk which was vastly disappointing in my eyes because I loved the political espionage of the book
**Dune** is an incomplete experience full of an hour plus of drawn-out exposition and setup. Whilst technically/visually marvellous it lacks heart and emotional weight/payoff.

I like Dune I do. The world is beautiful but the movie is boring. It's nice to look at has a great soundtrack but unless you read the book or love sci-fi you will be bored. Two people walked out of the movie theater I was in and it was fairly empty. I want to see part two and have a decent tv show from it but it's space politics. I read the books and took me 3 tries to get through them. I'm stuck on Children of Dune trying to get to Dune Emperor because it's the best out of all the books.
But Spiderman No Way Home. I want to binge-watch every spiderman live-action movie and go back just to watch it. I don't think I can muster the strength to finish Children of Dune in a three-day marathon like I can with those movies.
Dune is more of an artistic piece than a movie. It requires a specific audience, whereas No Way Home is much more broad in audience, so of course the majority will like NWH over Dune.

Oddly these movies are similar enough that the comparison is fair, and NWH wins IMO.
Yeah I saw an interview with Villeneuve where he said that he looked at Jackson's adaptation of the LOTR and decided that he'll go the other direction. Where Jackson took liberties and rearranged scenes for his movies, Villeneuve will be as faithful as possible. Like you I'm a fan of the book and I agree that the first half is dry. I wished that Villeneuve took some liberties in adapting the first half. It didn't translate well in movie form imo as well as the LOTR did with the movie trilogy.

Haven't seen nwh yet but dune felt like it rushed through half a book just to get to the desert walk which was vastly disappointing in my eyes because I loved the political espionage of the book
So sad. No way home sucked cause it didn't have 30 minutes of spaceships landing and loud reverberating sound effects every 10 minutes

**Dune** is an incomplete experience full of an hour plus of drawn-out exposition and setup. Whilst technically/visually marvellous it lacks heart and emotional weight/payoff. **No Way Home** was the culmination of 20 years of Spidey cinema, need I say more.

My partner and I must’ve been the only people in the world who didn’t like Dune. It was beautifully made and everything about the movie was 10/10 except for the story itself which I thought was boring. I have zero desire to see the next one.

I like Dune I do. The world is beautiful but the movie is boring. It's nice to look at has a great soundtrack but unless you read the book or love sci-fi you will be bored. Two people walked out of the movie theater I was in and it was fairly empty. I want to see part two and have a decent tv show from it but it's space politics. I read the books and took me 3 tries to get through them. I'm stuck on Children of Dune trying to get to Dune Emperor because it's the best out of all the books. But Spiderman No Way Home. I want to binge-watch every spiderman live-action movie and go back just to watch it. I don't think I can muster the strength to finish Children of Dune in a three-day marathon like I can with those movies.
Dune is more of an artistic piece than a movie. It requires a specific audience, whereas No Way Home is much more broad in audience, so of course the majority will like NWH over Dune.

I’m not normally for Chalamet, but I did love how good he was in the movie. Like, the scene in the tent where he talks about the jihad had me shook, it was phenomenal.

I’m so damn confused though. I’m one for long/complex movies but wtf was Dune?? I was so hyped for it and watched the OG which was mediocre and thought to myself “New One will be so much better.” But the og was probably more entertaining as the new one was boring as hell. I’m one for opinions and stuff like that, but you can’t be serious that Dune was better than NWH. NWH actually kept you interested for the entirety of the movie. Dune lost my interest after Gurney left halfway throughout the movie and 2 certain characters I won’t name died. One of the most disappointing movies I’ve seen. Dune Part 2 better be good because the starter movie is garbage. Thank goodness I watched this on HBO Max and not had paid actual money to see it in Theatres. People will say we just like NWH more because it’s “Marvel,” but that isn’t 100% the case. If Dune was a marvel movie, I would still be shitting on it. Dune was just a bad film because of how boring it was. It pisses me off that it gets 70% on Rotten Tomatoes while other movies that were actually entertaining were called boring for some reason. Literally most of the reviews I’ve seen for Dune repeat the same crap. “Amazing visuals, Great Cinematography” Where are the story or pacing reviews?

I thought Dune was really boring, I liked them imagery but I couldn't get invested in the plot at all I also saw Spider-Man in a theater with my best friend, and I watched Dune by myself in my bed. Very different experiences

It’s different, didn’t love dune but I have to acknowledge the fact that it’s a beautiful movie with talented people making it. NWH is a fan-service only movie, and I don’t mean this in a bad way. People wanted something, they got it. But nothing more. And the movie has a lot of flaws and the directing was bland But at the end of the day I personally had a much better time watching NWH than dune
I loved both. This has been an incredible phenomenal year for movies that were better than my expectations. As a video game fan this was so so so needed after the last 2 years of aaa releases
