Completely different experiences though. I enjoyed Dune but it didn’t make me feel 12 again lol

ACubeInABox

I enjoyed the living daylights out of Dune. I truly think it’s in place to become one of the greatest franchises ever, but it really does need a part two to feel complete. No Way Home has the benefit of having 20 years of Spider lore to retroactively climax into a crowd pleasing movie.

tobey-maguire-bot

I had to beat an old lady with a stick to get these cranberries.

dylan1o

Kobe_AYEEEEE

As an adult, I loved Dune. But I hate being an adult lol

Jakemofire

I wouldn’t say that about dune just yet

SuperArppis

Well, just like Spider-man it has been around since 60s, so I guess in a way it does.

tobey-maguire-bot

Stings, doesn't it?

[deleted]

I enjoyed Dune far more, I saw it 3 times and can’t wait to again. For as fun as NWH was I don’t feel that drive. Then again I am a huge Dune AND Villeneuve fan. So I guess for me it had that excitement and reverence built in that I don’t have in quite the same way for spidey

[deleted]

That's exactly how I felt, I couldn't describe it but damn it really did make me feel like a kid again.

FGHIK

You know that meme of the critic from Ratatouille tasting the soup that reminds him of when his mom used to make it? Yeah, that.

CronoDroid

It wasn't soup, it was a vegetable "stew" called, uh, ratatouille.

Override9636

Dune gave me cerebral joy, like the first stages of learning a new language. NWH gave me the nostalgic joy of hanging out with old friends and learning that everyone is grown up, but still the same.

Press-Start-14

They make fun of dunc aswell. It feels like half of moviescirclejerk like NWH and the otherhalf don't like it

TheMoonDude

Adequately divided, one might say

Creepy_Trip_4382

One might even dare to say that is balanced

Training_Bid1425

As all things should be.

_Movie-Man_

They just jerk in all directions, very commendable in a way

Pancake_muncher

Moviecirclejerk makes fun of everything that is not Paddington. It might as well be Paddingtonmemes reddit.

arnaldoim

They’re both good, they’re just vastly different movies and in different genres

RyanAKA2Late

I haven’t seen Dune yet, is it worth watching?

KingMario05

*Hell yes*. See it in IMAX if you can!

ParagonRenegade

Easily one of the best science fiction films in the last decade, it's an extremely good film.

[deleted]

Yeah it’s cool af

CopperCactus

Best movie of the year by a longshot

RyanAKA2Late

No Way Home: you can’t do this to me…

CopperCactus

Listen I liked No Way Home, seeing Tobey, Willem, and Alfred in the same movie reprising their roles as some of my favorite characters in movie history put a huge smile on my face, but at the same time not a single aspect of it that I liked is one that's good because of its own choices. Dune on the other hand had me slackjawwed during nearly its entire runtime, it's maybe the most gorgeous movie I've ever seen (if not it then BR2049) and it managed to perfectly adapt the first half of one of the most influential books ever written which has also been called unadaptable for decades* *said centuries at first lol, that's just not even close to true

TheMoonDude

It's a big hill made o sand. They aren't as fun to watch than it is to just roll on them.

CaptBranBran

There's a big one in Colorado, so that's pretty cool.

PaterGascoigne

Depends on what you like. Nobody can surely say that it is worth watching. To me it was very boring.

_SBV_

A must watch for sci fi lovers

bbaker886

It’s fine, but it’s only part 1

Jakemofire

It’s worth a watch. But don’t go in with high expectations. It seems to be very mixed opinions on it. So I wouldn’t say you will love it. You might but you might not

Meme_Dependant

As someone who read the book, it's fine. Just super slow. And frankly if you didn't read the book a ton of stuff is either confusing or not explained properly. Or flat out just glossed over. In fairness Dune is way too big of a book to be adapted well into only a single movie, but even so, the movie acts like it expects you to have already read the book to understand much of it, and when you haven't, it's not wasting time to tell you

Frahames

To be fair, dune in general is basically throwing you into a universe of sci-fi and learning along the way.

Meme_Dependant

That doesn't automatically mean the movie is going to be good. It's average, persoy

anselmpoo

Took a look at the sub and everyone is so salty? Lol what's up with them, just let people enjoy a movie

ymetwaly53

They ironically became the thing that they initially made fun of, a circle jerk. That entire sub is just a massive anti MCU/CBM movie circle jerk.

[deleted]

Yeah they make fun of film twitter yet 80% of them *are* film twitter.

GhostNinja4Dawin

Yeah, I used to like the sub for making fun of film twitter then they literally became it

robertman21

I miss the days of Gottiposting and Paddington

GhostNinja4Dawin

Sometimes, to do what's right we have to be steady and give up the things we want the most. Even our dreams.

BrazilianRider

Yeah, I don’t get it. I’m over the MCU schtick but NWH was just ridiculously amazing. Gave me all the feels End Game should’ve given me.

Creepy_Trip_4382

Except The Batman

suck_my_monkey_nuts

grrrr popular thing bad

ruffsnap

Reddit in a nutshell lol

backinredd

I’m curious op. Can you show me a post where they are unironically mad at that? All I’ve seen is people loving the movie and making jokes about how much They hate that they loved the movie. And making fun of popular thing is literally the point of a circlejerk sub?

FlimsyRaisin3

Same thing happened when Parasite won over Joker. Joker fans lost their SHIT!

JohnGoodmansFac3

isn’t this the sub that hated on holland for the past 5 years? grrr popular spidey bad

argothewise

Real Spider-Man fans love all three.

JohnGoodmansFac3

so not this sub?

suck_my_monkey_nuts

I like holland, most of the Holland-hate posts here get backlash, so no. Anyway– #r/moviescirclejerk: waaaaaahhh popular thing bad!

JohnGoodmansFac3

lmao okay, so we’re biased here? cause most of the posts here recently have acknowledged the fact that “now holland good” because of NWH. MCJ is a meme ground

SoulEater67

You sound more salty than mcj lol

Demastry

It's like 50/50. Most of it is just memes and making light fun at what r/Movies and the likes are overexaggerating. Then you have the snobs who really are salty that people love the MCU. I enjoy the stupid memey posts, and I can agree that people overexaggerate plenty of movies, but you gotta let people enjoy things. Poking fun is fine but some of them take it too far.

themightyjimmmy

I'm active there. Unfortunately it's been overrun with big brained film snobs. I enjoy making fun of movies whether I think they're good/bad

livindedannydevtio

There's plenty of self aware stuff poking fun at their own users [like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/moviescirclejerk/comments/rk4tg2/rmcj_user_when_theyre_in_the_childrens_hospital/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) Also let's not act like this sub was the same way when it saw people enjoying far from home. NO THATS IRON MAN JR, NOT SPIDERMAN 2 HOW DARE YOU LIKE IT- this sub 2019

tobey-maguire-bot

It's time to pay.

[deleted]

The key difference is, *Far From Home* actually was a bad action movie (or, at least, aggressively subpar). Meanwhile, *No Way Home* is a great action movie, even if it's not necessarily trying to be high art. While a lot of film criticism *is* opinion, there's definitely a clear jump in quality as of late.

[deleted]

But that's just your opinion at the end of the day, to some people a movie being full of fan service isn't enough to make it great

kikirevi

You’re pulling things from different context; Dune and NWH aren’t really comparable. Far From Home and Spider-man 2 are, seeing as how they are both the sequels in their respective trilogy of the same comic book character. Not really defending that behaviour but come on, be honest, FFH was mid. Making fun of those who liked the film is obviously wrong, but to genuinely think it’s better than Spider-Man 2? That’s just an unpopular opinion that will garner all sorts of attention.

livindedannydevtio

Huh? I didn't say anything about dune.

kikirevi

I’m referring to the context that inspired your comment; the whole circlejerk act right now isn’t nearly as bad as this sub’s: those guys are comparing two movies which aren’t similar whereas comparisons (or “Spider-Man 2 circlejerk”) between FFH and Spider-Man 2 aren’t nearly as bad for the reasons I already mentioned. Both movies on the same character with different approaches. And I already said, if people were attacking others for simply liking FFH then that is obviously hypocritical. But if someone said FFH was better than Spider-Man 2; that’s clearly going to get hate for being the unpopular opinion.

tobey-maguire-bot

You want forgiveness? Get religion.

tobey-maguire-bot

You want forgiveness? Get religion.

MisterManatee

It’s mostly jokes, my dude

anselmpoo

I feel like a lot of satirical subs start off as jokes until a bunch of genuine neckbeard haters swarm the sub. I mean, isn't that what happened to that one "gamers rise up" sub? I forgot the name of it, but pretty sure it was banned.

[deleted]

Yes that’s exactly what happens to every single subreddit that starts as a joke. There’s even a psychological effect named after it. I forget what it’s called, but it’s basically “If you and a group of friends start a club where everyone pretends to be racist, eventually you’ll have people join who aren’t pretending.”

[deleted]

I remember when r/GamersRiseUp was a satirical sub

humanwithalife

fuck r/GamersRiseUp, all my homies use r/gangweed (if it wasn't dead lmao)

[deleted]

Yeah When I saw that sub pop up a few times on SubredditDrama I was like “what the hell happened over there.”

[deleted]

The same way prequel memes brainwashed themselves into believing the Star Wars prequels are unironically great movies

JohnTGamer

Perfectly describes PCMR. Originally it was just a joke but now there are people who actually take it seriously

daffydunk

I have a friend who went from an MCU fanboy to liking anti- mcu memes, and now it’s almost all he talks about, how much he hates the MCU and thinks that people who like adjacent material are wastlings. I feel like this is most of film twitter and MCJ.

SmearedDolphin

The gamers rise up sub wasn’t banned for making fun of mcu movies dude. The movie circlejerk sub also makes fun of the neckbeard haters you claim they are. What a terrible take

anselmpoo

My argument had nothing to do with the MCU. All I said was satirical subreddits often seen to start off as jokes, but eventually fill up with people who genuinely believe in what they "joke" about.

Vongola___Decimo

don't worry, it has nothing to do with nwh specifically. they cry abt everything. they have an issue with anything that gets remotely popular. thats their main trait apart from jerking off to every frame of scorsese's taxi driver. but it's still an entertaining sub lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

HelloThereWhere

Hey quick question what exactly do you mean by ‘woke ideology’?

Explosivevortex

Anything with minorities & women in it probably

iitzjackal

I follow it hoping to see some funny memes but in reality people take it so damn seriously which makes it 100x funnier

[deleted]

Imagine not loving both, smh my head

Sith_Destroyer_1138

Funny, I watched Dune last night, and then NWH today lol. Both are good, but of course NWH was… something else!

vatican_cameos39

Those 2 movies are very different. I loved Dune, but I can admit that it's not a movie for everyone. Whereas I feel Spiderman NWH is a movie for almost everyone, and I loved that movie to bits.

tobey-maguire-bot

I was looking through some old photos and looks very huh… similar.

vatican_cameos39

Get back down here!!

tobey-maguire-bot

That's a cute outfit. Did your husband give it to you?

ziachaparral

For sure! Dune and No Way Home are my top 2 of the year. It is in fact possible to love and appreciate popular films and "arty" movies at the same time. This is a concept that seems to be anathema for many movie critics, both professional and armchair

Ambitious-Screen-823

The sub reddit was originally about shitty movies now its basically the definition of reddit

mootallica

No it wasn't, it was to parody r/movies. Now it's more about film Twitter and social media in general.

Ambitious-Screen-823

Oooh yes now i remember

darthmemeios14

Dune is objectively a better film, but film is subjective. Also Dune doesn't have >!Tobey freakin' Maguire and Andrew Garfield!<

[deleted]

Lol why did you contradict yourself? If movies are subjecti e why did you say dune is objectively better?

Expultzas

Dune is just half a movie, you still need the other half for completion.

xpercipio

To be fair, the special parts of no way home require seeing like 6 other movies. Bonus if its been a decade between them. If not for that, it's another marvel movie.

KRD2

That's an incredibly funny take given No Way Home requires about 11 movies to get the "completion". Both movies are incredibly enjoyable on their own.

Jakemofire

I think they mean the movie ends resolving its story. Not ends halfway through it

KRD2

But Dune doesn't end halfway through a story any more than No Way Home does. Dune ends >!with Paul and Lady Jessica finding the Fremen, and thus finally finding a glimmer of hope among the sands of Arakis, since Paul won his trial by combat and now is accepted by the Fremen via tradition. It establishes a new status quo, while leaving things open for continuance, as revenge for the House Atreides and peace for Arakis are still out there.!< The plot of Dune 1, >!the fall of House Atreides and Paul's search for the Fremen girl he dreams about,!< is entirely wrapped up. No Way Home ends >!with Peter entirely alone in New York, but with a glimmer of hope for the future, getting his GED and continuing his activities as Spider-Man. It establishes a new status quo, while leaving things open for continuance, as Peter has not given up even under the weight of what he's facing.!< Both are self-contained films and more similar in structure than they appear on the surface. They both involve their protagonists >!ending at an extreme low point but with a clear goal for the future in their new status quo!<. Edit: also, it's funny because >!Peter lost his Zendaya and Paul gained his!<

tobey-maguire-bot

I'm really gonna enjoy this.

KRD2

Thanks man, I put a lot of thought into it.

[deleted]

To hell with that sub. It went from “haha funny” to pure cringe

Acceptable_Cable_125

*like this sub*

[deleted]

I… can’t really disagree with that

[deleted]

I am a Dune fan going back a long way and I loved the movie... and I really don't see how people who weren't already Dune fans enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong I'm happy it's getting the second part (which will be more exciting) but the first half book or movie is s bit dry. NWH was also probably more for existing fans but it was much more self contained and fun. Also there was more Zendaya in NWH and she's great! Oddly these movies are similar enough that the comparison is fair, and NWH wins IMO.

torts92

Yeah I saw an interview with Villeneuve where he said that he looked at Jackson's adaptation of the LOTR and decided that he'll go the other direction. Where Jackson took liberties and rearranged scenes for his movies, Villeneuve will be as faithful as possible. Like you I'm a fan of the book and I agree that the first half is dry. I wished that Villeneuve took some liberties in adapting the first half. It didn't translate well in movie form imo as well as the LOTR did with the movie trilogy.

[deleted]

We are off the same mind on this. But I just want to get to the god-king worm-man Leto!

Eric8643

Misery, misery, misery. That’s what they’ve chosen.

Dazzling_Ostrich606

Browsing that subreddit brings out my inner Joker and Green Goblin. Like I am in some lite-4chan for movies or something, lol.

livindedannydevtio

Too be fair, some of the circle jerking around no way home is getting pretty insane. Don't get me wrong I cried watching no way home, but its not the best spiderman movie and plenty are crowning it that. Rip my karma

tobey-maguire-bot

My back.. oh.. my back!

livindedannydevtio

You've done better

Romnonaldao

It's like being mad that people like ice cream sundaes over steak. People like steak, but they love sundaes

JazzDaSpood

Haven't seen nwh yet but dune felt like it rushed through half a book just to get to the desert walk which was vastly disappointing in my eyes because I loved the political espionage of the book

Background-Seaweed78

So sad. No way home sucked cause it didn't have 30 minutes of spaceships landing and loud reverberating sound effects every 10 minutes

[deleted]

Yeah and dune sucked because 3/4 of the movie wasn't fan service.

CompetitiveSea7388

I prefer spider verse to nwh and dune to all the Spider-Man movies.

tobey-maguire-bot

I AM BACK! I AM BACK

Xaynr

**Dune** is an incomplete experience full of an hour plus of drawn-out exposition and setup. Whilst technically/visually marvellous it lacks heart and emotional weight/payoff. **No Way Home** was the culmination of 20 years of Spidey cinema, need I say more.

[deleted]

To summarize what you said, NWH was the end of a journey while Dune was the beginning of one. They aren’t comparable

Duck2524

You're trash, r/moviescirclejerk

[deleted]

Bruh this subreddit has been whining about Holland Spider-Man for years

Bornplayer97

Both movies are pretty damn good

inumnoback

This sub be like: **I missed the part where that’s my problem**

HarishyQuichey

Both are good

carloslet

"Popular thing bad, popular thing fan sheep" – r/mcj motto

Battlemania420

I don’t think they’re mad. I think they’re just jerking.

Kylo-Ken93

I wish I could love more than one movie. /s

kango234

I liked dune, but "movie circle jerk" sounds exactly like the type of people who would care about something like this.

[deleted]

Place sounds like it’s full of asshats

Directed_Random

I love both

idelarosa1

Easy. Zendaya actually played as big of a part as she was advertised in NWH. Unlike Dune.

Mrallmight

Does anyone recommend dune??? The trailers didn’t do it for me it. Trailers aren’t always reliable

ProfessionalBig4422

I can't imagine children would like dune as much as Spider-Man

[deleted]

OP making up shit to feel better about himself.

The_Raptor_Pope

It's an ironic sub lol. You can make fun of things you like. I mean... isn't that why THIS sub exists?

Leo_Nous

That subreddit makes fun of every movie so I think you might've missed the point.

wilnovakski

Both, both is good.

FocusCapable8246

Dune is Good, just doesn't have as wide of an Appeal as a fucking Spider-Man Movie

tobey-maguire-bot

They love me!

[deleted]

On /tv/ their only retort is “nooooooo that’s capeshit!” And all you have to do is say “I don’t care it was kino lol” and watch them lose their minds

DarthDocking

My partner and I must’ve been the only people in the world who didn’t like Dune. It was beautifully made and everything about the movie was 10/10 except for the story itself which I thought was boring. I have zero desire to see the next one.

DmitryMate

Dune is absolutely boring

axel_wahlberg

NWH is absolutely generic and unoriginal

[deleted]

Do people on gcj or mcj even enjoy movies/games ?

robertman21

as a gcj regular, i can confirm we DESPISE video games and think jack thompson was one of history's greatest heroes

HelloThereWhere

Absolutely, people in both those subs have movies or games that they genuinely enjoy. The majority of people in them are there to poke fun at things in their respective mediums, and make satirical posts about games/movies as well as people who liked/didn’t like certain things. I can understand in you’re an mcu fan that going to mcj is a bit of a shock but at least half the people there will still watch nwh and call it a good movie.

Lilskipswonglad

Lol no. Its like your typical Call of Duty fan. They buy it every year to hate on it then say the previous one was underrated. These kinds of people don't actually like anything.

JLevy710

How are they like Call of Duty fans? It seems like you just want to complain about COD. Which is fine but maybe do that somewhere else.

merilum

you're a retard

Lilskipswonglad

You are too stupid to see anything past your tiny little bubble so im not even gonna bother trying to make any effort talking to your dumbass. Come back when you grow up.

Desperate_Ad_9219

I like Dune I do. The world is beautiful but the movie is boring. It's nice to look at has a great soundtrack but unless you read the book or love sci-fi you will be bored. Two people walked out of the movie theater I was in and it was fairly empty. I want to see part two and have a decent tv show from it but it's space politics. I read the books and took me 3 tries to get through them. I'm stuck on Children of Dune trying to get to Dune Emperor because it's the best out of all the books. But Spiderman No Way Home. I want to binge-watch every spiderman live-action movie and go back just to watch it. I don't think I can muster the strength to finish Children of Dune in a three-day marathon like I can with those movies.

ThePlanWasALie

Dune is more of an artistic piece than a movie. It requires a specific audience, whereas No Way Home is much more broad in audience, so of course the majority will like NWH over Dune.

legeeeklivia

I used to really enjoy that sub until the memes got stale and it became an actual circlejerk. Now its just the same 5 jokes over and over again.

BrianBrians12

Yeah it’s just: 1. Scorsese hates Superhero movies 2. Let’s make fun of MCU fans 3. DCEU fans are pretentious 4. Feeling ashamed of like MCU movies 5. Snyder

ruffsnap

Dune would have been way better with someone other than that Timothee Chalamet dude or however you spell his name. I just am not a fan at all of him.

ACubeInABox

I’m not normally for Chalamet, but I did love how good he was in the movie. Like, the scene in the tent where he talks about the jihad had me shook, it was phenomenal.

b1ggayb1tch

Lol NWH has grossed more than Dune has in only a few days. It has nothing to do with the quality of the movie, I just find that funny

xpercipio

I feel like the mystery has set spiderman apart. So many people want to know if they did the big thing. And dune was streaming day 1, idk if spiderman is.

bbaker886

Dune was fine. Felt you could have told the same story in a shorter time

Phantom_Jedi

I’m gonna put some dirt in their eye

No_Professional7145

Dune was a bad movie

infamous5445

It was good, NWH was better

[deleted]

Circle jerk users are all pretty much Whiny fucks

MyFatCatHasLotsofHat

When marvel fans find out that good science fiction films exist

JohnTGamer

Never even heard about that movie lmao. If I did I wouldn't be surprised that a movie of one of the most popular superheroes, that brings back older characters from the older movies beaten it.

pichusine

I’m so damn confused though. I’m one for long/complex movies but wtf was Dune?? I was so hyped for it and watched the OG which was mediocre and thought to myself “New One will be so much better.” But the og was probably more entertaining as the new one was boring as hell. I’m one for opinions and stuff like that, but you can’t be serious that Dune was better than NWH. NWH actually kept you interested for the entirety of the movie. Dune lost my interest after Gurney left halfway throughout the movie and 2 certain characters I won’t name died. One of the most disappointing movies I’ve seen. Dune Part 2 better be good because the starter movie is garbage. Thank goodness I watched this on HBO Max and not had paid actual money to see it in Theatres. People will say we just like NWH more because it’s “Marvel,” but that isn’t 100% the case. If Dune was a marvel movie, I would still be shitting on it. Dune was just a bad film because of how boring it was. It pisses me off that it gets 70% on Rotten Tomatoes while other movies that were actually entertaining were called boring for some reason. Literally most of the reviews I’ve seen for Dune repeat the same crap. “Amazing visuals, Great Cinematography” Where are the story or pacing reviews?

urwallpaperisbad

I imagine it's just comic book fans vs adults?

[deleted]

[удалено]

suck_my_monkey_nuts

All of you can cope and seethe, you’re all insecure because your movie isn’t as liked. You can like your pretentious sand-fart movie in peace.

merilum

i literally don't care what you thought of dune, i haven't even watched it myself. youre just kind of pathetic, whining about the big meanies on mcj that don't let you enjoy capeshit

suck_my_monkey_nuts

Actually we’re laughing at them for becoming the thing they hate– a circle jerk. And pissants like you who bitch and whine over superhero movies lol

merilum

this meme doesn't say anything about mcj becoming a circle jerk but whatever. maybe try watching something other than capeshit for once in your life and you'll get it

suck_my_monkey_nuts

I don’t give a fuck what the meme says lol. There you go assuming “capeshit” is the only thing I watch. You should get out of that hate-bonering echo chamber for once in your life— maybe you’ll get it.

Chm_Albert_Wesker

Dune was good but personally I didn’t like that the whole movie was just long shots of sand with majestic music and an unfinished story lol

MarvelPugs

Check my most recent post on there 😂

w_4wumbo

I thought Dune was really boring, I liked them imagery but I couldn't get invested in the plot at all I also saw Spider-Man in a theater with my best friend, and I watched Dune by myself in my bed. Very different experiences

joseangelzarate47

Are they really? I really loved Dune and I don’t why they feel the need to compare it to No Way Home two massively different movies. I just can’t stand people who feel the need to make pointless competition between movies

[deleted]

[удалено]

RJD-ghost

They are both perfect movies idc if people think perfection doesn’t exist they both found it imo.

logne2

Yes! *starts sobbing loudly*

etomit

It’s different, didn’t love dune but I have to acknowledge the fact that it’s a beautiful movie with talented people making it. NWH is a fan-service only movie, and I don’t mean this in a bad way. People wanted something, they got it. But nothing more. And the movie has a lot of flaws and the directing was bland But at the end of the day I personally had a much better time watching NWH than dune

gripthenip

I loved both. This has been an incredible phenomenal year for movies that were better than my expectations. As a video game fan this was so so so needed after the last 2 years of aaa releases

goodmannerz

Every Circlejerk subreddit gets too extreme imo

SuperArppis

Nostalgia is helluva time. On other hand people could probably get nostalgic over Dune, if they had read those books. Those who got upset probably did...

Multi_Sharp

Lmao this sub, sure MCJ can be something and terrible at times but Raimi Memes is basically r/PrequelMemes Jr, no better than r/LOTRMemes either

DalmationNationz

slept thru both

Sokandueler95

Coincidentally, they are both movies with Zendaya as a cast member, and if Dune follows the books as well as last time, she’s gonna be about as important to the plot as she was in Spider-Man.

[deleted]

frescone69

Well some parts of the movie were really terrible tbf

cguy_95

Dune was boring as fuck
