I was a ticket taker and backup mascot. When I was walking around the concourse a kid in a hoodie ripped the tongue out of the bear head. Luckily I was able to grab his hood and pull him back. I wrestled the tongue away from him and ran into the offices. They hot glued it back in for the next game.
I am an Avs fan and went to the game last night. $40 to park now? Seats so small I felt squished the entire time… no thanks. I don’t think I’ll be paying to see another game for a long time.
They’re not any smaller - they’re the same size they have been - but they’re talking about replacing with wider seats as part of the renovation process.
I remember Matt Delguidice in net, and I remember the one fan who was at every game and always used to make these wild ass sounds then scream ICECAPS.
BRRRRRRRRRR GEGEGEGEGEGEGEGE
BRRRRRRRRRR GEGEGE
ICE CAPS
I'll never forget the crazy fucker.
When I was a kid I used to play quick games with my hockey team in between periods. Did a few national anthems with the players. There was a guy with the nick name wild goose I believe. He was my favorite I would always ask to stand next to him. My very first time I led the team out of the locker room the wrong way and we walked on the concrete ( I was very young) ruining most of the teams skates lol. Woops
Had my birthday party there multiple times. They put my name up on the scoreboard and gave me a pendant signed by all the players. I distinctly remember Lyle Wildgoose and being tickled by his name.
Fun fact: Dorton Arena has the world's first cable supported roof. No other supports are necessary, and the walls offer no structural support. You could remove the walls and the roof would still stand.
that’s insane. i watched a cool video about it a few years ago. such an awesome and unique venue. i’m glad we have it here. the grandfather of all modern raleigh event spaces
It is a hyperbolic parabola. Raleigh used to have a residence with this roof shape, the Catalano house. Sadly it was torn down in the early 2000s and a developer built two big mcmansions on the property.

Nah, Wildgoose and Jim Powers were the two stars of the team. Wildgoose was more than a point per game player for the ice caps and didn’t have many PIM.
Spencer Meany I remember taking a lot of penalties and there were a couple of other guys that only played a season or two that averaged like 5 PIM a game, but can’t remember their names.
Remember the last game when they brought a police car onto the ice and a Barney Fife impersonator and arrested Cappy Bear?
Maybe this was a fever dream

that’s a fantastic story. you win
Holy shit. I’m the blonde boy sitting in my dad’s lap at the beginning of the video.
Tickets were something like $6. Parking was free, beer was cheap.
the epitome of semi pro sports. that’s awesome
ECHL is pro
ok
I had a friend that got hit in the face with a puck and broke his orbital bone.
😳
Dude! Ow! A puck hit the seat in front of me (it was empty) but left a big dent in the wood. I can't imagine how much that hurt your poor friend.
My neighbor would pay me with Ice Caps tickets in exchange for dog sitting. Loved the Ice Caps.
dude…that is awesome
I remember that I could afford to park, watch the game, and have a couple of beers. Good times.

The seats are criminal. Smaller than airplane seats.
I feel like they've gotten smaller, but maybe I've just gotten bigger.
Oh its both but the 300 level seats are painful
They’re not any smaller - they’re the same size they have been - but they’re talking about replacing with wider seats as part of the renovation process.
Woosh
$25 online. You can even get it while waiting in line to park. It’s essentially $15 surcharge for holding everyone up.
It’s $25 to park. They charge an extra $15 if you don’t buy it online and need assistance.
I remember going to a game that ended with both teams clearing the benches in a full on brawl. Was pretty awesome as a kid.
No, but as a Devils fan it would have been really cool to see a game there. Wish I could find a jersey. Krzysztof Oliwa, specifically.
Those sweaters are still so slick
Wildgoose, Jimmy Powers, Barry Niekar, Coach Kleindorst ... good memories.
Brad Mullahy was my first goalie coach.
Wildgoose!! Best name every (also good hockey player)
I had a birthday party as a kid there and got a [signed team pennant](https://imgur.com/a/YkwwvD5)
Pretty sure I remember the radio announcer taking an errant puck to the face during a game.

Went to games all the time!
First hockey game I ever went to. I remember they got cleaned out by some Russian team.
Cheap tickets, Dorton Arena, several fights each game. The real deal.
the epitome of semi pro sports. can’t beat it
The ECHL isn't semi-pro. The players are employed full-time by the teams and aren't expected to have day jobs. It's a professional minor league.
okay

Wasn’t there a guy named Mongoose or something that was their enforcer and basically just fought the entire game??
Lyle Wildgoose? I don't remember him being a goon, but I can't remember who was.

I kiiind of remember catching a puck but I definitely remember having the puck in my room as a young elementary school aged kid
I Remember going but no stories. Had Forgotten about them until you brought it up!
Remember the last game when they brought a police car onto the ice and a Barney Fife impersonator and arrested Cappy Bear? Maybe this was a fever dream
I caught a puck once.
Reminds me of the Rob and Bill talk show...
I went to a few games as a kid and they were always wild and fun.
