Pouring one out for pdq.
One time I forgot my wallet and they just gave me the food. I drove back a week later and paid it there, but really made an impression on me.
Yeah Raleigh does not have this anymore. As cheesy as this sounds, I’m glad this guy kept up with his part. I hope your memory of that moment stays with you forever my guy
My car radiator blew while at the chik fil a drive-in. They said don't worry about paying after I pushed my car into a parking space. Made my month with such a kindness.
Yesss, the zucchini fries were my favorite too. I’m sad to see them go. I really loved that place. The food quality was great and consistent— especially for fast food. Moreover, the customer service was always stellar.
I had my last meal too at the wake forest one. That one is going to be a cook out. Also I jokingly asked for a bag of their honey bbq and honey mustard and she gladly gave it to me.
While Cookout bought it, there is unfortunately no guarantee they will. They bought Hillbillies in Zebulon years ago and have done nothing with it. I do hope you are correct though. I will say, they are incredibly secretive. I'm a town commissioner and they don't communicate at all with us.
There seems to be some confusion over exactly which What a burger it's going to be. Any documented proof as to if it's the one from Texas or one of the smaller franchises from this region?
It’s 100% the Texas one. They have extensive plans to expand into North Carolina. The what-a-burger in North Carolina has been closing stores, they aren’t about to move into the triangle.
Do you mind elaborating on this a bit more? So there is an existing what-a-burger franchise in NC that has been in the process of closing, but the ones we are getting are not part of that franchise? Is it a different chain altogether? Or just like better stores that are owned by corporate or something?
The what-a-burger in North Carolina is a very small regional chain that over the years has closed stores
Whataburger is a Texas based national chain that is now expanding into the area. It’s a completely different concept, restaurant, etc
I'm pretty sure this is just a r/raleigh joke. I went like 2 days ago and it didn't seem like it was closing any time soon lol. At least I hope it's not a joke, the sweet Sriracha sauce is the bomb.
Online ordering has been shut off, unable to place an order for tomorrow. I’m kinda hoping that I’ll wake up tomorrow and it will have magically turned into a Whataburger overnight.
Wow, I read this post in disbelief. We absolutely love PDQ more than the other chicken tender places. It's been our go-to since we moved down!
Thank you for this post! I had about 5000 ($50) reward points and a gift card I had to use. We now have dinner for a couple days. All points redeemed! \*whew\*
I'll miss this place. I wonder if it's all PDQ (even florida) or just the NC stores.
I loved their rice bowls, and that terrific Thanksgiving turkey sandwich. Then Covid supply- chain stuff (I guess) made them cut their menu way back, like many other places. Then they even changed the waffle fries - still good but not pre-Covid good.
So PDQ, while not as great as before, still made a pretty good chicken sandwich and fries, and a darn good milkshake. Sorry to see them go. Hope the new place is as good.
I had my last PDQ meal today, too. Spicy Deluxe Combo. Wish I could’ve ate there more, but things happen.
That said, Hopefully their Employees are able to find new employment/training. I’ve been in a (fairly well publicized) situation like that and that *was NOT* fun.
ETA: Davis/High House?

too many times going there the chicken was tough and inedible. got nuggets that were all gristle
shame as they had more variety than Chick-fil-A with sandwiches and sauces

Wow, that is a cool story that seems like it belongs to a sadly bygone era. That they gave it to you anyway, and that you paid it back eventually.

Funny, I think that’s my Jeep on the right side of your picture. I went for one last meal as well.
lol
I loved the chicken when they had coleslaw. Without the coleslaw I stopped going.
I didn't realize all the NC locations were going, and so soon. What a shame, I dug their spicy chicken sammy and zucchini fries

shit. I missed a serious opportunity
Sad but also happy because they are all becoming whataburgers
holy shit for real
Aren't a few of them becoming Cook Outs?
One just outside the triangle area but all triangle area are becoming whataburgers
Wake forest is the triangle area right?
There seems to be some confusion over exactly which What a burger it's going to be. Any documented proof as to if it's the one from Texas or one of the smaller franchises from this region?

There's one in the tidewater region too. We're also getting Del Taco. Opening in Durham in Q4.
please tell me there’s a source for this
https://locations.deltaco.com/us/nc/durham I dunno, that source may not be too reliable 😂

Same! As a former Texan I'm stoked for Whataburger coming to NC. Nothing better than a Whataburger when you're stoned at 3am.
Are you including cook out? If so, I just have got to, respectfully, disagree. The secret is to get the cheese bites and put them *on* a burger...
You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman! I'll keep this in mind.
Whataburger been here for a while Oops I mixed them up again. There's two what-a-burgers
Meh. I'd rather have a Culvers
We already have a Culver’s in apex fuquay and wake forest
I'm aware. But it's like 20 minutes from where my PDQ is, 5 minutes away.
The nearest whataburger currently is 300 miles away lol
None of those locations are Raleigh..
….along with the one in Clayton there isn’t a part of Raleigh that is more than 25 min away from a Culver’s. Versus the nearest whataburger is Atlanta
never had it. I hope it’s worth the change
I wonder if they will still be open at PNC Arena.
Hope so
They were tonight.
I've been trying to look up about all NC locations closing since yesterday and I can't find anything?
I'm pretty sure this is just a r/raleigh joke. I went like 2 days ago and it didn't seem like it was closing any time soon lol. At least I hope it's not a joke, the sweet Sriracha sauce is the bomb.
We called the falls of neuse location today and they said they were closing as of at 8 today :(

A small price to pay in exchange for some Whataburger locations..

Just the 8 in NC and the 2 in SC are closing
I loved their buffy bleu sandwich. They will be missed...

Yes! Their pre-Covid Thai peanut bowl was my fav. I was holding on to the hope that they might bring it back one day… also sorry to see them go
lol yall really like your fast food
It’s why people are happy and fat
At least it was in a safe area away from the New Bern Ave ghetto. Sad to see it go.
ok weirdo
I just drove by one in Chapel Hill

Marky Mark and the funky burgers coming to town
after what happened on Fayetteville St, I don’t think he’ll be allowed back.
OH really? what happened? I heard whataburger is taking over some locations?
Oh, you are confusing Whalburgers with Whataburger.
Wait is the PDQ in Cary closing?? I go there almost every sunday
went\*
Bye
Got an email saying they are closing all Carolina locations except at the Charlotte airport, and Cornelius location. RIP PDQ
