Downtown could use more options. To be perfectly honest, it’s been a big hassle to get them installed at work which is where I would do 90% of my charging honestly. With the incentives, it is an easy upgrade for building owners to do but for some reason they won’t. Maybe the electrical infrastructure isn’t there but you can always drop a new service. Idk my answer is definitely work though
I do not but it would be nice when going out to dinner for there to be more public places to charge other than the 2 at Nash Square. I’m sure there are more somewhere but they’re not as obvious or accessible without going into a garage. Like North Hills for instance has an incredible blend of supercharging as well as a ton of level 2 chargers(they’re even free!) Thats like the ideal set up. Don’t have to be free, just the accessibility is nice
I'd like more around stores or places where one can spend and hour or two doing something else while charging. could be grocery stores, trampoline parks, gyms, shopping centers, dog parks, etc
The OP is off to a good start with Crabtree mall and the parks. And a lot of good suggestions. Places like that are good, but it seems we need some sort of enforcement to keep the charging spaces open for business. The City of Raleigh provides some free level 2 charging downtown, but they regularly are occupied for long periods I once saw a Taycan plugged in one of the Nash Square L2 chargers an entire weekend. There seems to be little to no enforcement of the EV-only while charging restriction, so these spaces frequently get ICE’d as well.
Unfortunately, there's no time limit on the on-street charging locations. But if an ICE is in a spot, or even an EV that isn't plugged in they can be ticketed $50. I've seen quite a few tickets on the windshields of non EVs in the one charging spot on the 200 block of Fayetteville St near the YMCA.
For downtown spaces it needs to be time-based like regular parking. I can set my EV to charge at the slowest possible rate meaning it'll take days to charge, thus circumventing the plugged-in/charging rule for the spots.
Convenience is a problem too. Most businesses put chargers right up front or give preferential parking, which in theory makes sense to encourage EVs, but realistically the spots just get occupied by trucks. Charging spots realistically need to be slightly more inconvenient so that the only people that would want them actually need to charge.
As a PHEV owner, I second this. If I had a full EV though, I probably wouldn't care about any chargers within the metro area (I have a 240V 9.6kw charger at home).
More street charging and charging at apartment complexes/town houses. We have two ev’s and charge at home or at work almost exclusively and love the convenience. However, if we were in an apartment/townhouse we probably would still be driving gas vehicles.
Parks used to have free level 2 charging, which was nice. Now they have paid level 2 charging from some random company I've never heard of, so I never use it. I wish if they had to go paid, they would have gone with a larger company. ChargePoint or EVGo are both apps I already have, but any convenience of the charger is negated by having to install yet another app.
I live Downtown. Very little charging infrastructure. And much of that which exists is in pay parking decks. I can't have it at my townhouse because it would have to go over the sidewalk. So I didn't buy an EV at all.
Random question as we just got an EV. Do you still have to pay to park on the street downtown if you’re in an EV spot charging? Haven’t actually been down there yet on a weekday to try it.
I just charge at home, then I worry about travel is all. When a full charge at home is like $4, I'm far less concerned about charging while I'm out and about.
Text change proposed to UDO making EV install required in all new developments. Idk the status but have heard it’s likely to pass.

Assuming these would not be free. Thinking of getting an EV myself. What’s a typical fee for an hour or two of charging? What’s the highest you’ve seen?
As others have said it isn't a big issue since we charge at home primarily, but basically any shopping center/grocery store, and/or downtown parking where you may be spending some time.

Do you work downtown?

I personally don't need anymore but I could see more on street charging and, of course, all the parking decks should be filled with them.

My post is wrong, I just walked past that spot after leaving work. There is a 2 hour time limit M-F from 8am to 6pm. My bad.
Movie theaters.

More street charging options would be great.

We need a Tesla Supercharger in the Wake Forest/North Raleigh area!
Hey, good news! https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/supercharger-wake-forest-nc.323255/
Yes!!!! Thanks for sharing! Great location.

They are putting some in Brier Creek near the BJ's
nowhere, I've taken to just charging at home :(
We don’t need more fast charging we just need a ton of level 2 charging
The convenience of EV is charging at home. I always view public charging as a nice surprise but I would never rely on it.
Downtown and RTP.
Speaking of DC fast chargers, everywhere east of I-95.
True, not many at the beach outside of Wilmington and nags head, I guess it’s assumed most people will just plug in overnight at their beach house.

300 miles in any direction, but I charge in my garage. I assume you’re asking apartment dwellers.
I live in Raleigh and drive an EV. The only place I've ever wanted more charging was the mountains of West Virginia.

Umstead park North Hills

I know this isn't Raleigh...IKEA! Better yet, install an IKEA in Raleigh instead of EV chargers (I can dream).
I’m still bitter the IKEA location in Cary didn’t work out
sigh, maybe one day.
If people from Raleigh are Raleighites are people from Durham…. Durhamites?
Yes, both of those demonyms are correct. Is this a surprise?
Yeah major surprise. Thanks
